Bid and Planning We just finished our kitchen and bedroom remodel, and we highly recommend Gilbert and his team at Rocha Construction. We got 3 bids for our kitchen remodel, and after meeting with Gilbert, we felt confident in our decision to go with him and his team. Gustavo did our estimate and quote, and Gilbert spent time going through the bid line by line to fully explain the ins and outs of our project. We got to learn his life story, how he got into construction, and meeting him solidified our decision that we will be in good hands. We did a few pre-planning things (design and permits) on our own, but realized after that we should have had Rocha Construction do our entire project from A to Z. Demo/Construction Throughout the entire process, communication was prompt with regular check-ins. Gilbert is honest, very knowledgeable and transparent, which speaks to his character and integrity. The entire demo/construction took 12 weeks and the team worked hard to finish on time. They did a great job prepping the house for demo, which made the dust manageable and not as horrible as everyone warned us. Every step of the way, we were happy with the quality and craftsmanship of their work, as there were no short cuts taken. When things did come up, Gilbert and Maria were quick to resolve it to ensure our satisfaction. Final thoughts We understand that mistakes, hiccups, and delays are normal during any renovation, but what really mattered was how Gilbert and his team handled it. Their attitude, accountability, and willingness to explore and execute solutions for us was what impressed us most. All of Gilbert's team (Maria, Marvin, Geraldo, Jose Guerra, Gustavo) and his subs (Diego - electrical, Yoni - tile, Luis - countertop fabrication, Mario - paint, Eduardo - plumbing) were great - they treated our home like their own and cleaned up their work areas after each day. They weren't just there to complete a job, they took pride in their work, went the extra mile to ensure our satisfaction down to the little detail. Everyone was respectful, kind, and skilled. Anyone who has had construction work done at their home by multiple contractors knows that it's a mixed bag out there. But I'm grateful for the reviews on Yelp for leading me to Gilbert and his conscientious team of talented craftsmen. I had 4 companies bid on our outdoor balcony reconstruction and while all the companies seemed competent out of the three we were considering, only Gilbert took the time to put together a very detailed scope driven bid. He was very transparent which made it easy to ascertain the cost increases when we made some changes to the scope. In addition to the bid/estimate, I was impressed by Gilbert's knowledge, professionalism and alignment to my vision. Even though he has over 30 yrs of experience, he was never arrogant or closed off to listening to my ideas and giving me his perspective in a respectful manner. I am a very detailed person and I prefer to pay for work done right so we spent a decent amount of time on the "how" and what materials, etc. So now I need to talk about Victor and Geraldo ( aka "H") the builders. These two are a mighty duo and what I loved was the proactive planning by Victor ( the elder of the two) in laying out the steps that would take into consideration the following: - protection ( 3 coats of high quality primer to protect but also conceal the PT "cuts" in the wood, joist tape to protect the structural beams, reinforcing joists) - quality build ( they were so methodical about measurements going over it 2-3 times just to be as accurate as possible and i could see Victor laying out the build order to ensure balance) - meet my expectations ( instead of just making a decision and executing on a step that could have a downside or look off, Victor would always make it a point to check in with me - this prevented any errors from happening altogether) Victor and H did a magnificent job on our beautiful balcony. at one point they corrected something that wasn't a mistake but a design improvement just because it was the right thing to do. I was floored. I could go on and on about this company and our experience. here's the proof - we love our balcony and Im confident it will last 25-30 yrs or more because of how it was constructed. I really enjoyed having Victor and H here each day because they are solid humans with high integrity and they are very hard workers. i had to nudge them to take their lunch breaks because they would get so focused and wouldn't want to stop. And every day other than seeing the materials which were nicely organized, you wouldn't know there was construction bc i would hear the shop vac turn on at 4-4:30 each day. the job was a 2-3 week project that was completed in exactly 2 with ZERO drama. ( yep. hard to believe Lastly, I wanted to comment on their accountability. the guys accidentally damaged a few trex boards and immediately told me and when i mentioned it to Gilbert he immediately said he would pay for the replacement. No questions asked which means Victor told Gilbert. Anyways, Im in the process of talking to Gilbert about more work bc now that i found a good, trustworthy contractor i want more things worked on. read more

Gilbert, the owner is exceptional with communication, great on observing that all work is done to perfection and the price fit into our budget. It was so important to us to find someone we felt was honest and so willing to be of service. His wife Maria, has been such a delight to work with as well. Hired Gilbert and his team for a remodeling project after interviewing many contractors and getting bids. Eventually selected him and the job started well. Things went sour when he started lying and trying to cover his behind. Not going into details, but he'll try to take advantage of you, or worst, leave you in a predicament that will cost you more time, headache, and money to resolve. No homeowner needs this. I think he'll do OK on most jobs and many of his reviews show that, but there's a good chance he'll turn bad if he can take advantage of you. No one needs that. Gilbert is a true professional and did an amazing job installing our outdoor BBQ. It came out much better than we expected and we are very happy. All of Gilbert's sub contractors were excellent, and a special shout out to Luis (his counter top guy) who was great and a pleasure to get to know. Lastly, and most importantly, this is a family run business and they care about their clients. Even Maria, Gilbert's wife, was involved and clearly cared that things were getting done to our satisfaction. Rocha Construction has done two different projects for me. Most recently they carried out a bathroom remodel, which was a fairly complex job. After a full tear down, the floor joists had to be repaired due to water damage. A bathtub was turned into a beautiful, curbless walk in shower with linear drain alongside new built in cabinets. A new bathtub was added where there was no plumbing along with a heated floor. We had the typical nerve rattling renovation hurdles, but each were met by Gilbert Rocha's calm demeanor and rational optimism, and solved in short order. Gilbert has a wonderful team comprised of friends and family members, and has a knack for hiring excellent sub-contractors who carry forward his own team's professional and courteous attitude. Several years back Rocha Construction replaced a damage ceiling along with a wall tear down in my guest bedroom, rebuilding the original lathe & plaster walls with insulation and double drywall. The end result lacked visible wow factor, but went very smoothly with no hiccups. But I had been impressed by Gilbert's professionalism, organization and regular communication keeping me informed of next steps as the project progressed. I have been wanting to write this review for weeks but have been so busy as we moved states and are looking for our long term home. The person that I interacted with the most was Maria Rocha.. She was warm, thorough, proactive and very involved. We moved to Oregon and left our house in her teams hands to paint inside and outside, refinish our wood floors, fix our kitchen, new linoleum in our bathroom, and give our house a face lift inside and outside. I have never hired a general contractor before but I needed help to completely renovate a 3 bedroom house in Harbor City. I selected Rocha Construction based on an internet search (reviews, contractor license, BBB status), meeting with them to get a quote, and review of the detailed estimate they provided. I chose Rocha Construction out of the 3 quotes that I received. Rocha Construction was the clear choice. Their price was the best and the 14-page estimate provided concise detail of all the work to be provided and the breakdown of costs. The estimate also included estimated costs for material I needed to provide (tile, vanities, appliances, etc.). This was very helpful in estimating the total cost of the job, not just the contractor's cost. Finally, they provided a payment schedule with an initial payment to start, followed by progress payments as work was completed and approved by me. Rocha Construction completed the job on schedule and to budget. The renovation included 3 bathrooms, kitchen, windows, sliding patio door, water heater, furnace, flooring, and interior paint. Gilbert Rocha was regularly on-site overseeing the work being performed. The work and the materials used were high quality. The whole Rocha Construction team was professional, experienced, hard-working, and courteous. They took responsibility for their work and addressed every item to my satisfaction. It was a great experience working with Rocha Construction on remodeling my garage from an unfinished space to a finished garage with laundry. From meeting with Gilbert, discussing what I wanted to do and coming up with the detailed scope, all the way to the end having Mario and his crew taking care of the job. Gilbert himself was great to communicate and always available in case I had any questions. Mario was THE go guy that worked with his team to make all happen, and they did a great job! Mario and the team had a lot attention to detail and I could see they were aiming to deliver a job not only that we were happy with but also a result that they were proud of. There were a number of problems that came up during the 6 months or so that the rebuild took, but Gilbert handled them with courtesy and honesty. We saw a kitchen remodel of his in Manhattan Beach and was blown away by the quality of work. We had a major kitchen remodel project that required the removal and support of two load bearing walls. We had some hiccups (city, structural engineer, etc) but Gilbert and his crew was always there to resolves issues. The end result is we ended up with my wife's dream kitchen. She absolutely loves it. The most important factor in dealing with Gilbert is that he let me do what I felt comfortable doing. He broke down the scope of work by labor and materiel, so I could choose what I felt comfortable doing. He allowed me to get my own material, subcontract ( material and labor) with my selective vendors and install things based on my ability. The other general contractors would not allow this. We hired Rocha construction to update the electrical system (new panel, grounding, and rewiring throughout the house) in our home. We also had them patch all the holes in the dry wall, patch stucco that was made by the electrical updates in addition to replacing an old and broken fire wall, and rearranging a kitchen cabinet for a dishwasher. We also had a little plumbing work done clearing drains and replacing fixtures in addition to installing a new water line to the refrigerator. Over all this was a big project. Diego and the electrical team were fantastic arriving on time and working late. We had a few bumps in the road with an inexperienced project manager and Gilbert and Maria came to our house looked at the state of the job and made it right. These people worked extremely hard to ensure that all the work was done to our satisfaction. They also worked with an difficult city inspector to get all of the work done on our house properly inspected and signed off. Gilbert, Maria, Gustavo, and many others including their wonderful electrician ,Diego were instrumental in turning " a headed for demolition " ranch home into a beautiful, modern contemporary home. This involved renovating all systems including electrical, plumbing, subfloor wood and wood foundation piers , drywall work, exterior stucco and wood refurbishment, new windows, gorgeous new front doors, new floors for the entire home, fabulous new kitchen with euro slab white rift oak cabinets and gorgeous 3cm Cambria quartz counters, complete remodel of two bathrooms, and fabulous contemporary interior and exterior lighting. Gilbert worked with us on the design work as well as every aspect of the construction. His knowledge of construction is way beyond that of almost any contractor I have ever met and his aesthetic sense of design is impeccable as well. He was on board with the open concept design of our home and really made this a reality for us, understanding the structural aspects of our home. Of course, he consulted an engineer for final approval but he did have an initial vision. On top of all this, Gilbert is so congenial, hardworking and nice. He was responsive to every question and detail of the work process and answered even on weekends . His estimate was right on target within 2% and this is after adding new work orders due to unforeseen aspects of an old, deferred maintenance home. Rocha just finished a project our HOA hired them for in 3 days. Not only were they ahead of schedule but when they left it looked as if they were never here. My patio was spotless! They had to dig a large trench in a planter that was leaking into my home and waterproof the wall plus install a drain. He had to do this a few days after we got a large amount of rain. He had to dig up the sidewalk and everything and they were literally done in 3 days. Every other contractor told us it would take at least a week. I'm SO IMPRESSED. It's not just about the time however. From the beginning this family owned and operated company has made the experience personal and comfortable. They show up looking and acting professional and get the quotes out in a timely fashion. They explain what they are doing in detail and even send pictures when you are having trouble visualizing the concept. Dealing with an HOA can be a bit cumbersome for most GC's but Victor was so understanding about how we needed to proceed. I honesty can't say enough about how pleased I am.
