I was truly excited to get the ball rolling for my Mom. I set up an appt for an estimate. I understand that a contractor cannot just give you one right on hand... they must calculate the product needed, the hrs how many workers, and so on. He said I would have one in about a day or two at most. Didn't get it. Set up a 2nd visit like 3wks later after no response no est... this 2nd visit was at their request. My Mom took off work as did I. They were supposed to bring the est and did not. Said they would get it to me in a couple days... it's been 3.5mon. Not yet, no call no est even by mail. I left a msg and no response. How I see it.... If you can't even get me an est within a timely manner knowing that I have a bathroom in need of a remodel. Knowing that that is a 4-7k job sitting waiting for your attn. I've done all the demo already. This IS exactly how the job will go. You must understand that your first impression is the most crucial and you failed to even produce the est therefore than is how you work ethics will most likely be in my book. I feel you will be hard to get ahold of, gaps within the time you start the job and finish, and that you would be a headache to deal with. 3.5mom and you still have not returned a call or produced an est. I just don't get it. I was told you have plenty of opening and could start whenever I wanted. So, it's not like you're slammed if you could start with in days after our 2nd appt. I ended up going with a great contractor. Prompt, professional, the work was completed in 10 days. Prep, tar, water test, tile, grout, sealant, fixtures.... 10 days from the est to the completion and you couldn't even give an estimate or a return call. My job was tiny & I was turned down by so many other companies. I know small jobs don't bring in a ton of money but I have many clients who ask me for referrals all the time! I was feeling discouraged and frustrated. I happened to stop by Setai on my way back from another place. It was my last resort before DIYing butcher block. George was an absolute godsend. He treated me so respectfully, asked me questions and when I didn't have answers (because I am absolutely clueless about countertops) he asked simpler questions that got his answers. Due to the fact that my job was so small, it was more cost effective to choose from remnants, which I was fine with. He took me to his stack and patiently dug through. Measured & advised. I didn't take long as I already knew what I wanted and honestly, wasn't being too picky about it (it's for an office space). I asked about install & he gave me a date just a few days later! He called the day before to confirm. He called the morning of to let me know he will give me an eta. His consistency was impeccable. Frankie showed up on time. There was a slight issue with my countertops going flush against my cabinets. Instead of making it an issue he said "I will figure it out". If there isn't anything in my soul that makes me happier than a person that sees a problem and finds a solution. That, right there, is an amazing installer. Any other person would've been annoying about it. He figured it out & the outcome is beautiful. He was fast & efficient. He cleaned up after himself. I wish I had found them sooner. Working with Setai was a good but not perfect experience for our recent bathroom remodel. I found their prices to be fair, and a bit of a discount from some of the other full service contractors. The workmanship from the crews ranged from Outstanding (Tile) to Pretty Good (Paint). Stuart was managing our project and we had a few miscues and gaps in communication that we got sorted out by the end (all feedback here was also delivered in person). Pros: Fair price Outstanding tile crew Price included many materials like tile and vanity Numerous samples in their office Generally clean and efficient demo. Cons: I had to do more project management than I would have liked (pressing for schedule, calling to find out when they were coming back, mapping out our bill of materials, etc.). Paint crew left gaps in caulking, painted around door handles and light switch covers instead of removing to paint under, and had a couple spills that were blamed on us. A few mix ups on what we wanted done that had to be documented and corrected (wrong finish for tub waste/overflow, medicine cabinets hung too low to open even after we marked the walls, multiple house calls to fix caulking gaps around the shower, thermostatic valve not calibrated, and an argument over outlet placement.) Very light detail in the signed agreement, which made it a little trickier to negotiate project changes. Examples being whether recessed LEDs and exhaust fans were included in the quote (LEDs yes, fans no), when we were expected to have fixtures on hand (led to project delay). In the end I finally just said 95% was close enough, went out and bought some caulk to finish up when they complained about sending the crew again, and added some extra magnets to balance out the medicine cabinets that didn't close since they warped on install. We're pretty happy with the finished product and plan to use Setai again for our next bath and kitchen. I'm just going to make sure we work out a more detailed project plan and bill of materials, and plan for more personal time checking the crew's progress and activity. If you are organized and can pay attention to detail, you can get a great project done for a fair price with Setai. read more

We contacted Setai primarily because of the customer reviews. From our initial consultation, the owner Matt proved himself to be attentive to our needs, the most significant of which was quality and reliability. More on these in a moment. In the initial consultations, Matt asked all the necessary questions about our kitchen upgrade, made suggestions and showed photos when we didn't have a specific material, color or style in mind and put a quote in our hand in a day. To accommodate us, Matt left place-holders in our project estimate with the mutual understanding that the final cost would depend on our final choices, which Matt worked with us to resolve. He invited us to his store to check out the different materials and styles for cabinets, counter tops and floors. He also offered us samples to take home. Once the project plan and cost were final, the work was scheduled. The scheduled work went as smoothly as a customer could hope. A few key things stood out to us about Setai: (i) The work was scheduled and completed with little to no gaps. That's important when your kitchen is going to be out of commission for a minimum of a few weeks. That's also very hard to do when the work requires multiple different skill areas. (ii) Matt would confirm a day or more in advance that his crew would be arriving at our home the following morning, usually between 8:30 and 9:30 am. (iii) Sure enough, they were there as planned without any significant exceptions, were working immediately and didn't stop until the planned work was complete. (iv) There are ALWAYS unforeseeable factors, like a scuff on the cabinet door or something in the original design which needed to be modified, and Matt did an excellent job of identifying them and providing feasible work-arounds so the schedule didn't slip much. The project was completed in less time than originally estimated and in a way which exceeded our expectations. Matt takes pride in the quality of his work. This company has a long way to go in terms of professionalism and quality of work. I called them to install new counter tops and backsplash on my small kitchen in Long Beach. George came and gave me an estimate of $3000. He scheduled that the job will be started on June 9; and will only take 1 day because "they're professionals". June 9 came and they were supposed to start at 9 am. They did not show up at the promised time. I finally called George at 12 noon and he said that his worker (his "main man" is having back problems and can't do the job. If I did not call him I would not have known about this change of plan. I actually took a day off just to accommodate them - so I just wasted a day off at work. George promised to start on June 12. They worked on my kitchen on June 12. They only finished half of the job and his men will finish it the following day. They promised to come back the next day at 12 noonish time. The following day they did not show up at 12 noon. I finally called George around 4 pm and he said that his men are working with him at that time and they should be here at my place around 5ish pm. He apologized and he said that he's even gonna give me a discount to make up for the delay. His men showed up around 5 pm and they finally finished the job around almost 10 pm. Quality of work: Mediocre. And they scraped some parts of the wall of which I am now obligated to paint. Suggestion: If you are looking for a contractor to renovate your kitchen, I suggest to look somewhere else. George and his company is NOT at all professional in any aspect of customer service, quality of work is mediocre - other contractors could do a better job. And the discount that George has promised because of the delay?..you guessed it right... no discount was given to me whatsoever. DO NOT HIRE THEM. read more

Setai did a great job on our bathroom! We decided to remodel our very old bathroom after we found some leaking thru tile cracks in shower and valves. We got some estimates and setai's seemed reasonable. Stuart was great and explained what they did and had recommendations along the way. They pretty much did everything from a complete tear down and rebuild. We extended bathroom by tearing down wall into my sons room and extending shower ceiling. They also had to move plumbing around to fit new location of shower valve and toilet. They did it all and took the trash with them everday. All the workers were great and considerate esp since we mainly work from home. Workers asked us about our opinions in details along the way as well as providing recommendations. They even sealed up my sons room to make it look seamless with the rest of the room. The duration was just a few days over the estimate of 4 weeks so pretty close. We had a couple issues with painters leaving a few smears and smudges in areas but my wife mentioned it to Stuart and he was very responsive and had the painters back the next day (Sunday) to fix it. They were great and apologetic about it and fixed the issues so no harm done. Only minor complaint is the scheduling was sometimes off. They would sometimes not come when expected or come late but for most part stuck to schedule. I esp like that most big items are included in estimate and we only have to buy shower valve, faucets, toilet, mirrors and exhaust fan along with small fixtures like towel rack. Other estimates i got did not include things like tiles or shower doors so this was nice. I recommend buying all the things that are customers responsibility ASAP as we didn't and it caused us 1-2 days delay, but that was our fault as Stuart was clear about need date for those items. Overall great job and thx to Stuart and the team especially Nelson and Lupe for all their work and recommendations. Very professional. read more

We originally got a quote from Sears and a quote from from George. George's quote was about $5K lower than Sears.
