There are other companies that specialize in popcorn removal that bid less and told me they would do my 1100 sq. ft. job in just a day. I wanted a good job rather than a fast one. After getting the proposal from Steve at Original Richard and discussing the job I was convinced that Original Richard would do it best. They took 4 1/2 full days, usually with 4 guys, and got it right. They also changed out some ceiling lights to new LED lights. I had a great experience with Original Richard. They removed popcorn ceiling, installed recesssed light, changed main electrical panel, painted the interior of the house and did a lot of patchwork. It was ~25k job. they had a tight deadline because we needed to move in within 3 weeks. They completed in about 1.5 weeks and they left everything fairly clean. We are sooo glad we found original Richard on Angie's list! Would recommend them to anyone. We just got the keys to our new home and were on a very tight schedule to move in. Original Richard was able to scrape the popcorn ceiling, texture and paint THE WHOLE HOUSE (walls and all!) in 2 days flat. Everything was dry and ready to go by the time we needed to move in. Horrible service! I would not refer them to anyone! They are supposed to be replacing our windows because the city requires egress. They showed up 4 hrs late the first day and only worked for 3 hrs and left the house exposed and not covered. Then didn't show up at all on the 2nd day saying they were waiting on materials. Half a day late on the third day and still didn't finish. When they finally got the windows in, the city inspector laughed and asked them why he was even there... they ordered the wrong size windows! It's going on the 5th week now and still don't have the new windows in! They said they won't work in the rain... and our exterior wood is exposed to all the rain because they needed to take out the stucco for reframing. The way they covered the windows was very poor and keeps coming off exposing the wood to all the rain. When we called to have them come back out to fix it they again showed up hours later then we were told and then asked me if I had duct tape!l because all they had was masking tape! Unbelievable! My biggest frustration is that we are expecting our first baby in a couple of weeks and when explaining that to them and letting them know we need this done asap they act like it's not their fault and could care less. I wish there was a way to give a negative rating. Such an awful company. Extremely poor service. read more

I have deferred maintenance on my home, and it was time to get the popcorn stucco removed and replaced with a nice, smooth stucco surface. I had contacted Original Richard about a year ago, and we had some email miscommunications, so I never did anything. Then had more work I wanted done on the home, so found another contractor to do that work and the stucco as well. Long story short, I couldn't get that contractor to detail what they were going to do, and the cost was too high. So back to Original Richard. They have a great office staff, and after a little communication, the process began. Believe me, it's messy. Especially the sandblasting part. And we had to prepare the outside by removing or pulling back all the plant life around the house. The first part with the removal of the gutter downspouts and the sandblasting was painful. Noisy, dirty, and empty water bottles thrown all over the place. But I understand this is typical contractor stuff that just happens. And while the sandblasters did a decent job of cleaning up, I did have to call OR to make sure that all empty bottles and other debris get picked up at the completion of the job. And they did. The office staff is great! The second part was the stucco. It took a couple of days to complete it. I worked with them on the color (it's great . . . you don't have to paint your house . . . the stucco comes colored!). Such a great job and the skin on our house now looks beautiful!!!! The house next door to us was doing a major remodel that had taken them months. And I have to say, our stucco and our home looks way, way better than theirs! read more

The office staff and the foreman, Greg, are outstanding in trouble shooting, getting back to the customer in a timely fashion and getting the job done. Everything was completed when they said it would be, and there was no wasted time. When I asked for the painting of the trim to be re-done, it was. When I asked them to come back and install the light fixture and pick up excess trash, they did. In fact, they fixed everything I requested so I have no complaints. Again, the foreman and his workers were pleasant, hardworking and helpful, as were the office staff. First off, I love the name of this company :) Luckily, their service and quality of work is just as great. These guys were amazing at communicating, fairly priced, and delivered on their promise of a great end result. The guys who came to the house were very nice and went above and beyond to make everything look great. We needed the "popcorn" texture removed from 1 small bedroom and then new texture applied that would match the walls. The texture is a heavy knockdown style that can be hard to match. The crew showed close to the time they said they would and started the job. We found them to be clean and they matched the walls very well. I called Original Richard to schedule two jobs. One job was a skim coat on an interior plaster wall where a doorway had been closed up. The second job was on an exterior wall where a doorway had been closed up. Both jobs came out nicely. The surrounding wall areas of both jobs were closely matched (outside wall is a textured stucco finish) by OR's contractor. He finished everything in one day. I was interested in this company because of the great reviews. However, I had a poor experience getting them to come look at the job I was ready to start. In two instances, I was told there would be a time frame for them to stop by and give the final estimate. In both cases I waited. Nothing happened. I had to call, only to be told that they would not make it that day. I understand that it gets busy. I do not appreciate the lack of courtesy when a potential customer is waiting around. After reading good reviews, Yelp and Angie's List, I hired Original Richard to do skim my two closets. The work performed was far from quality. Disappointed. Maybe the job was too small and they did not care. 1) Communication - Jackie and Steve provided good custom service 2) Price - After three quotes they were a little higher but I thought it would be worth getting top quality. 3) Quality - Not good. They had to do rework. Waves in the wall, gaps in the corners, and missed areas. Steve gladly sent his crew back to fix the problem areas and finishing painting. The final product is not quality (at least the waves are gone). You can see were they cocked the corners, the edges are not straight, not consistent orange peel and there is paint on my wood baseboards. It is not a horrible job but far from quality. I will have someone else fix it. I am always willing to pay good money for good quality. read more

First, you receive Donna when you call and she is always so pleasant and helpful! It really feels like a business that takes pride in their trade and their customer service! We hired "Original Richard" to add a addition to my office. We needed to add a washer and dryer with the associated pluming and electrical work. We also had them add a wall and add a door to close off the area. They did a great job! The work was completed in just a few days, worked after the business hours and left each day with the office very clean. This company was sent by my roofing company, America's Best Roofing, to repair a crack on my drywall bedroom ceiling. The whole job, from start to finish, was excellent. They covered my stairwell and everything in the room before beginning the work in plastic. Their work is flawless and the owner even stopped by to check the job. I was debating between 4 stars and 5 stars (since there is no 4.5 stars) but the work that Original Richard did for us was good overall and most lingering issues have been addressed. Lessee, first they installed lights and left without adding the trims so I had to call them a few days later to get them since I wasn't liking the 'exposed wires' look--but the lights look great now. They scraped the popcorn ceiling downstairs and it looks really nice now. (When we get the funds, we'll get the upstairs scraped too.) They painted all the interior walls...oh wait, no, they didn't: somehow the laundry room got left off the to-do list and we didn't notice so they didn't paint it, apparently assuming that I wanted all but one room of the house freshly painted. (Not sure why they'd think that but oh well!) I also didn't notice that doors were not included so our walls are looking good but our doors...not so much. And the painters apparently weren't sure if they could unplug a sensor and timer we had so consequently they painted around them, leaving a small patch of "old-paint" wall under each socket. And a few places where color paint met white, the border was uneven. These were relatively minor issues but I thought they could have been easily avoided using common sense and a cell phone. HOWEVER, they DID send a worker to come back to paint the laundry room for free and fix one of the "old-paint" spots. Things are not perfect but thank you, Jacky and Steve and the rest of the crew, for all that you did to beautify our house. read more

I had a small job in our bathroom. We had a ceiling leak and had to make a large hole to fix the leak. Steve gave me an estimate which I thought was reasonable. Steve performed the patch work and when he was through I could not tell where the patch was, no seems or gaps. The painters came two days later giving the patch a chance to dry. They were the neatest painters I ever had. You could not tell any work was done after "Original Richard" was complete. Additionally, the office staff could not have been more helpful. They removed all the popcorn ceilings in my condo and did so on time and on budget. I hired a painter for a day because I had several small jobs to get done. I supplied the paint. They showed up on time and gave me an 8 hr day of work. I made that clear before hand that I expected a full day of work for a 1 day painters fee. I recommend you make your expectations known before hand to avoid any misunderstandings. This was the third time I hired them to do work. I would recommend them no matter what size job. All of the work I've had them do is painting inside the house. Original Richard's is our go to Contractor, we had Richard and his crew work on two of our homes. Both homes needed complete fireplace face lifts. They dry walled over the old brick, added new mantles and beautiful subway tiles, they also installed the new hearths. Both houses new fireplaces look absolutely beautiful and are completely different styles. Then we had Original Richard help with our garage re-model, again, they cleared out the old dryway, installed new drywall, added new electrical and fix old electrical that Richard said, "who ever did this had enough knowledge to be dangerous" (That would be my husband) and now we have a great garage that we aren't embarrassed to have the garage door open. Richard's crew performed with the utmost display of professionalism and quality craftmanship. I took a number of different bids from stucco contractors and chose to work with Richard because I felt he had the most experience with work similar to what I was asking to be done to the home (20+ years in the stucco business). During the initial walk-through, he explained the different stucco finishes I could choose from patiently and listed the pros and cons of each as I was evaluating different options. We drove around the neighborhood also so that I could point out to him the final result I wanted to have after I re-stuccoed the home. His crew, especially Greg the foreman, is very knowledgeable and customer-service oriented. We had a few touch ups that needed to be done on the last day after clean-up, including some areas near the ground that got missed and some windows that required more cleaning. Greg promptly came back to take care of all the details in a good-natured way and stayed until we were happy with all the small details that made this project come out exactly as we had hoped. Donna and Jackie, who work in the office and process the paperwork also are a pleasure to work with on administrative details and thoroughly professional.
