Inside of Everything Burrito
Allison N.

I went here with a coworker who was on the KU football team while he was in college. Burrito King is just a couple blocks from the football weight rooms, so I can imagine a couple players frequent this spot! The drive through was pretty quick at 1:30 pm - we ordered 2 everything burritos, mild and hot sauce, and a couple drinks. The burritos were HUGE! Mine was easily two meals. Kind of regret getting the everything burrito - could have left out the ground beef which wasn't super flavorful. But it was pretty good with the mix of mild and orange/hot salsa. Horchata was decent but had lots of ice for a medium.

Nikki B.

Tacos, tamales, rice, queso, burritos, quesadillas, and walking nachos are all fire! Definitely recommend.

Best place to eat in all of Lawrence. The place isn't the cheapest but I have never seen anyone disappointed in spending a few bucks here.

The burritos are okay. The food is similar to Mexican fast food joints but the restaurant is local. Give them a try.

The corned beef hash was outstanding, crispy where it should be, tender where it counts, and clearly made by someone who actually cares. You can taste the effort. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked too. Now, about that "sourdough." I have to confess I'm a bit of a sourdough snob after spending time eating the real deal in San Francisco. This wasn't sourdough. It was good white bread wearing a fake mustache. That said, it was fresh, buttery, and the marmalade was absolutely delicious, so I still happily cleaned my plate. The coffee is self-serve and bottomless, which I actually like. If you're the type who enjoys topping off your own cup whenever you want, it's perfect. If getting up to refill your coffee feels like an Olympic event, you may disagree. Service was friendly, fast, and exactly what you hope for at a breakfast spot, attentive without hovering. We visited around 8:30 on a Saturday morning. Since it's a college town and summer break was in full swing, it wasn't busy at all. I'd expect it to be a much different story once students are back. Overall, I'd absolutely come back. Just one request for The Roost: either upgrade to real sourdough... or call it white bread. My inner bread critic will thank you.

Sure, most think of it as a hotel first, but The Oread is way more than the sum of just its rooms…read more Those are jammed every weekend throughout the school year and possibly the summer. I live less than a mile away so unless I decide to do a getaway I can walk to I may never actually be a hotel guest. However, I have plenty of insight into the venue to offer that most won't. It's part public space that hosts all kinds of corporate and school functions, weddings and related parties, private meetings, all of which require catering and staffing. Of those I've attended my share. It's also public space with several dining facilities and bars. Head to the rooftop, AKA "The Nest" for the single most breathtaking view of the entire city and campus, one that has no equal in the entire city. Breathtaking. Visit in the evenings on weekends and you can catch live music and a small bar on the rooftop, everything you need for a special night out, and I already mentioned, that view! Not just for hotel guests that are staying, in case you wonder. First floor, The Birddog Bar has a nice selection of my favorite beers and spirits and is a relaxed place to kick back and has a credible bar menu. For fine dining, "On The Hill," their Italian restaurant is turning out the best hand crafted pasta dishes and more in the city. Elegant, and highly rated. And for folks like me wanting to quaff a great cup of joe on a morning walk, that's available ala Starbucks in the morning in the lobby by the front door. Oh, and for the college crowd there's an age appropriate bar on the backside down the hill. I'd consider myself a bit old to visit according to my daughter. Wise advice from what I've heard. I'll stick with that. If you come: valet parking, close to everything KU related, you can even see parts of the football field for game day, and the University promises it'll be a winning team in a year or two. We can only hope, right? One last thing: a neighbor is a lead housekeeping worker in the facility and speaks highly of her employer. THAT gets my attention.

This trip so far has been the extreme opposite. We came to the hotel at 12:30 hoping to be able to check in a little early. We stood at the front desk for almost five minutes before a woman came out and said, "do you need something"? She asked our name and said, "we have nothing available right now". We had hoped to change clothes and freshen up before a meeting with University of Kansas officials and a subsequent dinner with them. There is no school going on at KU as commencement was the previous week. There were only six cars in the hotel garage. We have never been treated so rudely by a hotel's front desk personnel. I also asked when the room might be available and was told 4:00. She made no effort to look anything up or accommodate us in any way. Very disappointing.

The decor throughout the restaurant makes a clear statement to all who come- this is a KU affair! I also ordered a spicy jalapeno margarita. I will refer to it as "spicy" because it really was not. They had a few specials for the evening as well. Everything sounded good! Our waitress was friendly and very prompt with our order, which was much appreciated. It was a good time. I travel a lot so I have to give this place five stars for going above and beyond. As far as designed I would give it first floor lobby bathrooms are 5 stars. Everything is glamorous, yet classy with a modern twist to traditional look. Now the room are extremely spacious but the design hasn't been updated so I would say 3 stars. Now the items in the room are 5 stars. Number one favorite thing was the beds. I'm in love with those pillows I need them in my life. They're true King size full, soft and firm at the same time. Completely in love with those pillows. Mattress was very comfortable. Bedding was clean and soft. Bathroom amenities included shampoo and conditioner that were gentle and I had Great results on my hair. The lotion was so moisturizing and light. The make up mirror was a great touch. Every day I got two bottled waters which was well needed. Q-tips and cotton pads for makeup removal were also a great touch. The towels like the bedding was definitely an upgrade because they were soft, large and Beautiful. Everything in the room was upgraded, there was plenty of outlets with USB outlets provided making it easy to charge phones. Service was excellent, room was cleaned daily. Hotel is located right in the heart of the town across the street from plenty of wonderful restaurants. I stayed here for five days so much to do so many wonderful places to eat. Felt very safe for evening jogs. Parking is an issue. As far as the hotel being haunted I did not experience any paranormal activities, lol. I was in room 505 and apparently 506 is supposed to be haunted, thankfully there's enough space between those walls that any supernatural activities stayed out of my room.
