Wow this place! If you ever don't want to cook dinner, but still get something delicious and quick - this is the place. Their burritos as well as their rice and beans is ALWAYS delicious! They also have amazing horchata! My fiancé and I are obsessed with Burrito King. Also the people are very friendly, always having welcoming smiles on their face! They're online menu prices, and the actual prices at their location were significantly different. The portion size was really good. They do give you a lot of food, but unfortunately, the food was cold and not seasoned very well. customer service could have definitely been better. I went here with a coworker who was on the KU football team while he was in college. Burrito King is just a couple blocks from the football weight rooms, so I can imagine a couple players frequent this spot! The drive through was pretty quick at 1:30 pm - we ordered 2 everything burritos, mild and hot sauce, and a couple drinks. The burritos were HUGE! Mine was easily two meals. Kind of regret getting the everything burrito - could have left out the ground beef which wasn't super flavorful. But it was pretty good with the mix of mild and orange/hot salsa. Rude customer service food is sloppy small portions with exorbitant prices, every time I've been through the drive they always yell at you to hurry and just never enjoyed the food I've had, as well as prices are wrong and over priced 10$ for chips and queso that's not warm and stale chips, forgot my salsa as well. The food itself was very good. I had two tamales and they were wonderful. The only complaint I have is trying to order through that microphone that you can barely hear anything out of. I wasn't sure if they got my order correct or not. And then when I got to the window, she hand me the credit card machine hooked to some kind of arm, and I could barely read it and that made it a little difficult. There are several picnic tables to dine at on site. However, there is no indoor seating. Max, the owner, care to watch me attempt the challenge. I finished in just over 8 minutes. If there's a reason why this legendary Lawrence restaurant closes it's because of the young girl running the store. News flash, you cant run a restaurant with your ear buds in! Not only is my food consistently made incorrectly but the kids working here act like they don't want to even take your order! Forget about getting a "order when you're ready", "thank you come again" or "here's your food" these kids essentially just throw the bag in your face and turn around. There use to be 2 older ladies who ran the show here and when they're working this is the best burrito place in town. Please please please try to encourage your young staff members to run this restaurant properly, it's sad watching a family member who doesn't care about their family business run it in to the ground. read more

Repeated failures on orders We would love the Burrito King - if they could get orders right. 3 out of the last 4 times we have gone the orders were incorrect - by magnitudes. I strongly suspect that it is, in part, due to the speaker/communication system that is certainly unintelligible on the ordering end... this isn't a huge expense to upgrade, yet it's been this way (and worsening) for at least two years. I love burrito king. I've been going here a lot ever since I found out about it 4 months ago. The only problem is the stamp card the dude gave me. It had 2 stamps on it. I got up to my 7th today but they didn't honor it because it expired in 2021. I just started going in 2023 and got all those stamps in 4 months. Doesn't seem right. From the shell to the beans to rice to the meat. EVERYTHING is freshly made to order and never frozen. Since I've been to burrito king I've never stepped foot in a different Mexican restaurant in town or anywhere else! I've had the real deal from friends, California, Texas and Latin natives and this is just as good! Not to mention the people who work there are loyal and friendly. I've been a casual customer of BK for years, but recently branched out from burritos to a torta. I ordered mine with chorizo, and was really satisfied with it! The bread soaks up the juice from the chorizo really well, and there's mashed avocado, sour cream, lettuce, cheese... yum! As per BK standards, the portion was generous and the salsa was fresh and delicious. Bomb burritos! No doubt hands down one of THE best in town. Staff is always pleasant and quick. Menu is pretty robust but not intimidating. I had the works breakfast burrito which comes with all the meats. The one and only complaint I have that keeps this from a 5 star is the price. The burrito are a good size but no way should 2 burritos and a Pepsi be 20$ especially when one of the burritos was only bacon. My boyfriend and I used to love this place; good food at a relatively cheap price. However, the last three-four times I've gone have been extremely underwhelming and disappointing. Each of those times they have forgotten items and messed up each item they included. When I went about a week ago, we ordered 4 mexican style tacos with steak, one soft taco with steak, and an order of bean dip with chips. When we got home, there were 3 mexican style steak tacos, 4 tacos (crunchy shell) and a side of beans. Tonight, we ordered deluxe nachos without sourcream, a pork tamale, and bean dip with chips. Arrived home with deluxe nachos WITH sour cream, bean dip but no chips, and a stone cold, uncooked pork tamale. When I pulled the tamale out of the bag, the foil was literally cold to the touch and the tamale itself was cold and extremely mushy (indicates it wasn't cooked properly). In addition to this, about 50% of the time when I order bean dip and loudly specify DIP, I receive a side of beans instead. And a quarter of the time when I do get the dip, they forget the chips even though I was charged the extra ~$2. I really hope they work things out because I miss the good food here but it had become extremely unreliable and I'm not sure when I'll be back. I used to go at least once a week.
