Samosa (Vegab) - 8 Thin crust, seasoned and fluffy potatoes with peas and a slightly spiced red sauce. Minted Jalapeno Chicken - 9 - Reminiscent of Thai Basil but 99% chicken with bits of mint and jalapeño. Some chili oil residue in the plate means it is likely added to modify spice level. Flavorful, spicy and delicious! Burmese Styke Chicken Curry -6 - Fish oil is predominate in each bite which I didn't enjoy. Coconut Rice - 10 So delicious but a bit sweet so I'm not sure what dish to pair it with. Burmese Indian Rice - 7 An incredible amount of flavors in this innocent looking rice. I had the chili basil beef under the lunch special for $18. I ordered medium spice and it was not very spicy for me. Next time I would turn it up a notch. It is obvious that the food quality is excellence and they strive to make each dish perfect, as well as the quality of service. I really appreciate this! With that being said, spending over $20 for my lunch will have to be an occasional splurge for me. They have a ton of vegetarian options, pretty much any dish can be ordered without meat or with tofu instead. If you are unfamiliar with Burmese cuisine, you can usually expect full-flavored dishes - even with their rice dishes - and the presentation is always impressive. It has strong culinary influences from the countries that surround its borders, including India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, and Thailand. Burma Light prominently features many of its country's traditional dishes like curries, very distinct salads, and soups that are usually eaten with rice. 12/16/23 Burma Light took over the Vons Korean fried chicken location in Folsom. I've been wanting to take the family to come try Burma Light. We came in at around 3:30 on a Saturday and had the place to ourselves. My oldest son wanted to start with Palata and Lamb Curry. This was just ok. We ordered the Tea Leaf Salad and much is unique to Burma restaurants and usually a must try. It was a tad heavy on the garlic today but good. Husband ordered the Basil Chili Chicken medium spice and he liked it. My youngest ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice comes w/fish roe, only had 4 shrimps, but the fish roe mixed in great. I asked the owner who took our order whether the pad thai was spicy and he replied no. However, when the pad thai came, it was spicy and he was very generous to take it off from our bill (we later added garlic noodle to our order for the kids). - tea leaf salad: the salad was delicious and tasted authentic. The sauce had very bold flavor and super garlicky- which I like. - pad thai with chicken: it's mild spicy and delicious! The flavor was deep. Party of 3 came for early dinner on a Friday and was quickly seated. We ordered the tea leaf salad (slightly too much dressing for our tastes), paratha with lamb curry (lamb was so tender!), chicken curry (chicken so moist), ginger fish, and lobster fried rice. My first time trying Burmese food and I did so much research on it before I decided to come. It's a mixture of Laos, Thai, Indian and Chinese food. It makes sense because Myanmar is bordered by all those places. The Burmese iced tea reminded me of Hong Kong Milk Tea- so delicious!!! Indian rice- so flavorful with all of the spices in it. There is cardamom of some don't like that taste. Garlic shrimp eggplant- I love eggplant! It was delicious. Lots of spices to it. Burmese style chicken curry. It is nothing like Thai or Indian curry. It tastes like an inbetween. It is savory. Not coconut milk. Not sweet. Not vegetables in it? So glad we got the eggplant. We ordered everything medium and it's not spicy at all. It was sad to see Von's Chicken go but I see the light, BURMA LIGHT! They have been open since 10/27 so just over a month and I have become their regulars! Due to my recent no sugar diet for health concerns, my current go to are papaya salad, Burmese lamb curry, pumpkin veggie curry and dry veggie curry. Their basil beef was good as well. I'd like more spice for jalapeño chicken however. We also had their salt and pepper tofu with perfectly done crunchy outside and soft tofu inside but wished it had more salt and pepper. That's coming from mister light palate over here, haha! Their coconut rice is amazing if you like sweet flavor. Indian rice is also great with flavor. I do wish they have brown rice option for people like me. There palata is the usual roti paratha but with multiple curry dip options! Burmese food to me is as if Indian food and Thai food had a baby. They have similar offerings with spice and heat level just one to two notches down from traditional Thai and Indian cuisine. It strikes a perfect balance between the two for a more enjoyable flavor overall. I personally eat on the lighter side and it suits me perfectly! If you are used to the spicy levels of Thai and Indian food, be sure to go one to two spice level more here. Great dining atmosphere loving the new layout and decor; I don't know fengshui but I think they nailed it! Service is fast, the owner and servers are nice and courteous. I had my first Burmese food experience when I visited my friends in the Bay a few years back. There aren't a lot of Burmese restaurants in the central valley (that I know of). So when I heard about Burma Light, I was more than excited to go. Though it doesn't say they take reservations, you can still call and they'll save a table for you. This is handy for when they get busy and they do get quite busy. My family and I got there around the start of dinnertime and there were still a lot of tables open. We beat the rush hour! For our family of 6, we ordered quite a few things. Appetizers: Samosa - 4 large pieces, crispy and vegan. Comes with a side house sauce. House sauce isn't spicy, a bit of tang and sweetness (subtle). Very tasty, highly recommend get 2 plates. Palata w/ chicken coconut curry - Flatbread with curry. Tasty although there were some bones in the curry, be careful when eating. This could be my full meal and I'd be content. Main dishes Burmese Garlic Noodle w/ shrimp - Different choices of meat to choose from but we chose garlic. Noodles were cooked to perfection, tasty with fresh green onions, cucumbers, and we got it mild to suit everyone's spice level. I'd get this medium to spicy. Shrimp was plump, and juicy. Not overly cooked, just right. Ohn-No-Khao-Swe soup - Don't ask me to pronounce it, I just pointed to the menu. Coconut curry like soup with chicken, thick noodles, vegetables, lemon, wonton strips and spicy pepper on the side. Also another one of my favorites, creamy with a bit of spice and a nice zest of squeezed lemon. Lots of flavors and textures. Eat this fast because the noodles will absorb the broth and bloat them. Tea leaf salad - A signature well known Burmese salad. Good but way too salty for us, lots of garlic in this. Not a whole lot of tang either. Was most excited for this but the saltiness was overpowering. Lobster fried rice - Good, and they add fish roe to the rice. Lobster tail were a bit overly cooked so they were stuck to the shell and hard to remove. I'd still order this again. Ginger sea bass - Best dish of the night!! 2 large fillets of sea bass. I was pleasantly surprised because this had so much flavor, perfectly balanced and fish was cooked just right. Soft and melts in your mouth. Watch out for bones! Highly recommend ordering this if you're unsure what to get. Lemongrass tofu - Mixed veggies and tofu, great vegetarian dish and goes well with rice. If you order coconut rice, I think it would be really good but we didn't. Next time. Beef kebat - Tri trip stir fried with a variety of vegetables. Meat was tender and not chewy. Also a hit for the night! Water - My taste buds didn't deceive me. Their water is infused with cucumber. Very refreshing especially when eating spicy food. Overall, I loved what we ordered. Slightly disappointed with the tea leaf salad due to being too salty. We didn't save enough room in our bellies for dessert but that will be for next time. Decor is nice and I do recognize the structural bones of the old Smashburger that I had many a good lunches there. They did a nice job making it look like an authentic Burmese restaurant. The servers were incredibly nice and friendly, which I really appreciated. They really made me feel welcome! I had a chance to try the Burmese style curry lamb and the curry chicken as well, and they were both solid picks. I would love to try all the other items as well, so definitely will be back. The only downside is the prices are on the high side for lunch and rice is not included. So I ended up spending about double what I normally spend for lunch in Folsom. The restaurant was very accommodating. - We were not restricted to a limited menu - They were able to split the bills Our server Curtiss was very friendly, helpful and efficient. A few people had food allergies and preferences and he was able to tell us what was/wasn't in the food. We ordered family style for the food and Curtiss was great on suggesting good dishes so we had a nice variety and options for everyone. I was looking forward to eat some Burmese food and glad that there is a new spot in Folsom. I ordered a chicken biryani, a burmese garlic noodle with shrimp and a palata (flaky bread) with chicken curry. I'll start with the positives: modern interior, real dishes with substantial utensils and cloth napkins, friendly hostess, ice water was regularly refilled and food was served in a timely manner. The chicken biryani dish was served somewhat lukewarm in temperature.The outside meat of the chicken was warm but the meat closest to the bone was room temperature. The rice that came with the chicken was also room temperature so it was hard to the mouthfeel-if you eat and make rice, you know what I'm talking about! The garlic noodle was kind of bland, but the sweet and spicy dipping sauce saved the dish. The chicken curry was worth mentioning as it was very tasty, however, the bread(palata) that it came with did not look and taste home made. I'll probably try their other dishes next time. read more

First time trying Burmese food, but had heard great things about Burma Light. Started off with a fresh cold baby coconut water, so refreshing! And so tender. We tried the tea leaf, it's a mix of lettuce and cabbage with raw peanuts, sesame seeds, fresh jalapeños, and spices. We also had the basil and chili chicken, it was a taste I wasn't expecting but good, on the side we had coconut rice, tofu pad Thai. The restaurant was very clean and neat, our server was kind, friendly and when we were deciding on the chili and basil chicken she said it was good and recommended we try it.
