Update 06/30/2022: IMPRESSIVE and EXCEPTIONAL customer service. The company sent out another diver crew today to clean our pool and got rid of all of the stains. WOW! We are full of gratitude for everyone's hardwork and the pride Burkett's puts in their work. They never challenged us about either if it was us causing the stains.. They just went beyond and above their responsibility to work with us to maintain our beautiful pool. We will be turning on the pool vacuum cleaner more often to prevent anything that might cause the stains again. I will be introducing Burkett's to our NextDoor neighbors. This kind of service, especially during this time, is rare and should be highlighted! ‐--------- Very surprised to see such low reviews for this business. Seems like most was about the scheduling instead of quality work. With the pandemic, most businesses are getting more busy since people stay home and wanted to improve around the house. It can be frustrating but their quality and customer service, from our case, was exceptional. We got our pool plastered 5-6 years ago by Burkett's and we LOVE the final product. We wanted Tahoe blue and that exactly what we got. The sparkles on the bottom added livelihoods and personality to our pool. A few months ago, we started noticing some dark spots on the bottom of some areas of the pool. My husband contacted them and shortly after, Amy came out on one of the hottest days of the summer to investigate and helped to fix the issue. She used acid and a wire brush to lighten the spots. She also responded to my texts afterwards to share what was done. We will follow her way to fix any future dark spots. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised and pleased with the customer services, even after 5-6 years since rhe work was done. We appreciate the company going out of their way to help us maintaining our beautiful pool that we have spent a lot of money on. If you are considering a pool re-plaster or doing any coping deck or pool deck repair, I recommend talking with Burkett's Pool Plastering. From our initial consultation to re-plaster the pool, replace the existing coping deck, skimmers and redo a portion of the pool deck... Burkett's knowledge of materials depending on your project is pretty extensive. Our HOA was re-plastering two pools and Scott from the commercial division was great to work with. The crews work hard and treated the massive project as if it was their own and even re-graded the pool skimmers for better water flow. What I liked: They stayed on schedule. They always called the day before to let me know when to expect a crew and what they would be doing. Honestly, given past experiences with contractors, this was HUGE for me. Usually the communication is terrible, but not in this case. The crews were polite. Everything stayed at the price quoted (the only change was when they discovered they needed to do something with the plumbing, and I was consulted about that before agreeing to the change). They did a really good job matching our existing decking when having to patch. The finished product is exactly what I expected and wanted. What I didn't like: They kept blocking my driveway and garage. I kept having to tell them to move their trucks so I could get my car in and out. It's not like there was nowhere else to park, so... Paid Burketts to Re plaster My Pool and install new pump Equipment . Billed me for a Pentair Intelleflow pump and installed a Whisper Flow that is $600 cheaper . They refuse to Refund me the difference in cost even though I paid for the more expensive pump . They told me my Plumbing was too small to run the Intelleflow . They had my pool stripped down to the rebar . They could easily see the pipe size . I have asked several times for my refund and they said it was my fault that my plumbing was too small . Be cautious about using this company. Their estimator was unable to put together an accurate cost estimate for a straight forward replaster and tile project. He included work that was not feasible (split main drain) and omitted work that was visible and clearly necessary. The passive aggressive communication style of their Customer Service Representative (a misnomer) increased my concerns about this company's intentions each time we interacted. If you do use them, pay particular attention to the payment schedule that they include in the contract. It seems their normal business practice is to require payment in advance of doing the work, which will leave you little leverage to make sure they complete the project as promised. My pool was plastered by Burketts 20 years ago I had issues with the gem stone cracking called them several times to get it repaired to no avail. Fast forward to 2022 my niece had their pool plastered by Burketts and are also having issues with the plaster neither Burketts or Pools by Nelson will repair the pool blaming the pool service and the chemicals they use. Very happy with my Burketts experience. Vladimir did an excellent job coaching us through from start to finish. We had to re-plumb the pool, so we had to demo everything, put in new pipes, plaster, tiles, the works. We had a thousand questions and Vladimir made it very easy to understand. Once the process started everything was seamless. A different team showed up every few days to execute one part of the process and they all worked very hard and efficiently. We had a central point of contact in their office that let us know of timing and the order of events. Things were clearly explained and laid out. The only thing that wasn't clear was what we needed to do about having pool alarms and passing inspection, but we got that sorted without too much delay. We love our new pool. I could not say enough good things about this company. We re-did our whole pool and plumbing with them. They were easy to work with, accommodating, and did a fantastic job. Not a single complaint. Since our pool work we have had a couple issues, new issues and not related to their work, and they have come out and fixed it and didn't even charge me. We reached out to Burketts in February 2021 and signed into contract with them on 2/18/21. Drain date was scheduled for 4/30/21 and plaster date was tentatively scheduled for 5/27/21. It is 6/24/21 and we just received a call after many phone calls and requests for updates and were advised that we are tentatively on the schedule for replastering on 7/17/21. Horrible communication. We have never had to follow up as much as we do to get a returned call. Project manager has changed once. Horrible customer service. I'm risking retaliation since our pool is not done yet but couldn't in good conscious not post a notice about this company. The worst part is that we referred a relative to Burketts and they signed up about three weeks AFTER us and their 3x as bigger pool was completed today. If they actually show up 7/17, because they have promised to come certain days and confirmed the night before and they never showed up, our pool would have been empty for almost three months! read more

We have water in our newly replastered pool as of April Fools Day. Unfortunately the joke was one us...Burketts started this project almost exactly one year ago. Along the way there were the usual delays (weather, waiting for another contractor to finish their work, some changes in the scope (some recommended by Burketts and some of our own choosing) and Burketts scheduling issues. But there were also some completely egregious delays. At one point we had a 30' long, 2' deep trench that Burketts had dug to get gas to a fire pit. In digging the ditch they cut through some wires for our sprinklers and a drainage pipe. Not a big deal and easy to fix. But it wasn't fixed and the ditch remained open for the next 8 weeks. Voicemails and text messages to our project manager, Juan, went unanswered. And a letter we wrote to the scheduler was not replied to either. Literally nothing happened for ~ 2 months. Ultimately we had a different contractor do the repairs and fill in the ditch. It took about 8 hours. When we asked for a credit against our bill for work Burketts ultimately did not do it was denied. When I was finally able to speak with our project manager I had a polite but direct conversation about how unacceptable this was. He apologized and seemed repentant. Four months later, when we were trying to get the last 10% of the project completed, the same damn thing happened again. No return calls. Unbelievable. We escalated (belatedly) and his boss later came out and things got back on track. But from end to end this was a one star effort. read more

Use anyone else! We had multiple quotes to remodel our pool. Burkett was by far the most expensive, but we decided to go with them. I figure jobs like this you get what you pay for. I was told after signing the contract I would hear from the office in a few days. 6 weeks later I get a call and told we will be there in the morning to drain the pool, oh and please make sure you have a check for the first round (terrible communication). So they drained the pool, they then realized I had a high ground water level. This delayed the demo for almost two months, I had a hard time believing a company this old never had this issue? The job supervisor was a joke, multiple times he would schedule a meeting that would require my wife to take work off to let him in the yard only to never show, no call and no sorry! So we finally get past the water level issue. During the work, the workers are pigs leaving trash from lunch breaks that I had to clean up everyday. Fast forward to completion. A week later I notice I cant keep water in the pool. I call and am told there's a leak. They will send someone out to inspect, if it was caused by them they will cover everything, if not I have to pay. I agreed, the inspection showed the leak was 4 ft off the wall, ofcourse they said that was on me and gave me a quote of almost 2k to fix it. I told them no, send me the inspection bill and I will fix it myself. After cutting open the concrete I find the leak is at the wall and was caused by them. They agreed to fix it, but made me do all the concrete repairs! Fast forward a month, I'm cleaning the pool and notice what looks like a crack at the drains. I put on my goggles to inspect and sure enough there is a crack between the two drains and all the way up one wall. I call and they send out a diver to inspect. Never heard anything until I called two weeks later to ask what's up. I was told, oh the diver caulked the crack, your good. So I'm supposed to be good paying 15k for a caulking quality remodel?? Nope!! Without a doubt, hiring Burkett was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I highly suggest you use anyone else. This company has terrible communication, employees that just dont care and a owner who hides behind poor management as they clean up the mess!! read more

I had two estimates and chose Burkett's. The Salesperson was very knowledgeable and did not try to upsell like the other company. We wanted our job completed in April 2021. We met with Burkett's in October 2020 and had a start date of April 2021 which was written into the contract that was returned to Salesperson within a few days of the meeting. We had multiple emails with Salesperson about finishes and tile. He even sent us additional samples in the mail. Everything was good until it wasn't! I reached out to the Salesperson a few months before the job was supposed to begin. TO YOUR SURPRISE we found out the Salesperson didn't send the contract to his office and our job was not added to the schedule. The Salesperson gave us the excuse they do 2,000+ pools a year. No apology and told us if we wanted our pool done in April they could do it next year. Not Funny! The paperwork finally made it to the scheduling office of Burkett's! It's now September 2021 and the job has started. Three weeks into the job we still do not have a date for plaster. Burkett's refused to give us a sooner date. They put us at the end of the line even though we had a signed contract that work would begin in April 2021, and it was their error that delayed the entire job. The craftsmen thus far have done an excellent job. Another strange thing, I still don't have a plaster date. Don't use Burkett Pool, whatever you do! This entire project has been a complete fiasco, from top to bottom and start to finish.....if it ever finishes. Burkett was contracted in the winter to renovate our HOA pool, for about $60,000. The project was supposed to last 6 weeks, and be completed May 12th. It is now two months late, and we still cannot swim in it. In addition to being behind schedule, Burkett failed one inspection by the county, and there are already cracks in all the mortar joints of the masonry surrounding the pool. The last update estimated an Aug 1st open date, but i'd bet good money that doesn't happen. I can't express my dissatisfaction with Burkett enough; uncommunicative, unresponsive, behind schedule, poor quality, etc etc etc....... read more

Thanks Update: I met Ricardo and Carlos last week, great workers that did a good job in my pool preparing for the replastering step. They left my house clean as well. Update: Today I met Luis and Jaime, Luis installed a new breaker box and explained to me how it will work after the pool is done, awesome job. Jaime installed the pipes for the drain lids as well. I can't say anything bad about Burkett's. This review is long overdue. From start to finish, they did an amazing job on my pool. The worked in concert with an unrelated paver team. It was a symbiotic relationship and both parties were amazing. They painstakingly had a gaggle of teams scheduled in order to complete process, inspections, and the final product. Replastering is not a fast process, their are many moving parts and components. It may take weeks, or in my case longer since I was the monkey wrench with paver teams. Jeanette in the office is amazing. Victor was one of the back end team leads with electrical. So many good employees and teams. Mind you all, this was a job smack dab in the middle of the covid fiasco. Burkett's did a great job balancing rotating and available staff to accommodate our lengthy project as well as the other dozen or so ongoing at the same time. They re-plumbed and pressure tested pipes for over a week! They ran a lot of LED lighting, and the pebble teams were spot on. I am saddened by some of the negative reviews because my experience was good. Yes there were surprises on my end but Burkett's had expertise and solutions to attack head on and get the job finished properly. The value was good. I have mixed feelings as I draft my first negative Yelp review, but this feels quite overdue. You should know what you're getting into working with Burkett's. I'll try to just present this as matter of fact as possible. Dec 2018: Initial proposal for $76,563 for a remodel of an old 15' x 32' pool. New surface, safety cover, plumbing, and equipment. We got over some remodel sticker shock and decided to go for it. ETA "3 to 4 months" in time for summer. We also decided to replace the ancient concrete deck with artificial turf. We used a separate contractor specialized in turf installs for that part of the project. Jan 2019: After a dual walkthrough with Burkett's project manager and the artificial turf installer, we find that the pool coping wasn't included in the original quote. I understand Burkett's was expecting the artificial turf folks to cover it, but they don't do pool work. +$3,600 Burkett install fee & $1,472 materials. Feb 2019: Demolition starts. Discovered main drain needs to be replaced as well but this wasn't estimated with the other replacement plumbing, so +$2,600 Discovered the bond beam needs to be raised 6", so +$3,000 March ~ June 2019: Rampant delays & miscommunication. e.g., forgot to install bonding wire for inspection, fence needs to be replaced before inspection, wrong amount of coping ordered May 2019: It's 90 degrees, we've had an empty hole in the ground for 5 months, and we start worrying about completion for summer. Tough to get timing commitments from Burketts, but new ETA set to July 2019 after some repeated complaining. July 2019: Main pool work done, turf contractor starts installation. Several problems spotted. The cover doesn't close flush because the coping is misaligned. Some mounting brackets for the cover weren't installed and some were too long, and exposed. Took about 2 months to fix these. October 2019: Cover vault fills up with water and we discover that a drain was never installed for the cover vault. Burkett claims the turf vendor "should have known" this was needed. They never communicated this requirement to the turf vendor, and the turf vendor had no idea as they aren't pool experts. We need to rip up the turf and install a new pipe + drain. We felt strongly that this should have been Burkett's responsibility as the pool experts, but they accepted zero responsibility. Another surprise: +$6,500 December 2019: Turf & drain repair complete. Project essentially finished. Jan 10th 2020: Final inspection completed. Project officially finished after about a year. June 2020: Cover fails to open. Burkett sends a repair crew out and they discover one of the gears was stuck. They get it working again with a lot of grease and prying the gear back into place with a screwdriver. December 2020: Cover fails to open due to same exact problem with the stuck gear. The June repair was just a temporary fix it seems. Burkett is now quoting $425 just to troubleshoot because they warranty work for 1 year. We're not yet 1 year from the final inspection, but that's not the date they use. Decided that was the last straw. We'll be looking for another vendor to fix Burkett's broken cover. Bottom Line: You'll probably be happy with your pool if nothing goes wrong. But if it does, expect minimal integrity and responsibility from Burkett's. It'll be your time and your dollar. read more

My pool contractor brought them out to do our pool. The contractor a total let down (that's a whole other story in and of itself). While Burkett's was hired to do the plaster work (sub'd out by my contractor) they plastered over our pool lights and when called out to fix it they showed up did the one light but never returned to do the other four lights. They also didn't cap the egress port in the bottom of our pool after they did the plaster so the entire pool drained as fast as we filled it up. We were very lucky the pool didn't raise up because of 40000 gallons of water that drained out. I had to pay out of pocket a leak down specialist to figure out why that happened. Ugggh. We hired Burketts last December, 2021 and was told our pool resurface would start end of April into May. We then get a schedule that said they would not start until June, and while we were going to be on vacation. Had to reschedule for two weeks later to the middle of June. Everytime I called with a question i'd get the, "someone will call you back", to which they never did. When I'd get upset with them, nothing. Our remodel took over 8 weeks and although the contractors they used did a great job, we are still having issues with the heater they installed for our spa that they still have yet to come back to actually "turn on". I've had to ask my husband to "take over" for me in calling them because I am sooooo beyond frustrated with them. BEWARE!!!! Terrible! Very unprofessional. They will supersize your project and inflate it. They are stealing money from clients' who have no idea what they are doing or about to walk into. Marlon K Mader came out to my home and stated its over $100k in JUST CONCRETE and their average price is $12 per sq ft....HELLO, that over 8000 sq ft of concrete!!!! We have only 3200 sq. ft in concrete. They still came back with $160k is construction costs!! They have no idea what they're doing. You can get a NEW olympic size pool for that with a grotto for that!! They do not deserve to be in business. BE CAREFUL WORKING WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!! Burkett's came with a very good reputation which is not deserved. First of all I was given a quote of $14,000 to resurface my pool and ended up costing more the $23,000. Secondly and more importantly, it took them FIVE MONTHS to resurface my pool! I was given the excuse that because of Covid there were shortages of workmen. Can you imagine taking five months for resurfacing project?! And the communication was poor, I never knew what the next step was going to be until I called them and often they failed to communicate with me. Not a good experience. read more

You were not in contact with me after telling me it was as good as it's going to get. The scars in the plaster, the discolored streaks, black blotches and cracked tiles are your finished product. The most poorly managed project I've ever witnessed. My husband engaged Burketts for repairs to our pool back in January. We finally got a proejct schedule several months later, saying the complete project would be finished by June 1. Everytime we contact Burketts about a missed deadline, the Project 'Manager' points the finger at the scheduler, and she points the finger at the Project Manager. Makes me worry about whatever else they are missing or not paying attention to. i hate to complain about a luxury item, but our pool is good excercise for me and my dog who has spine problems. Had to cancel my Daughters sweet 16 outdoor pool party because they could not finish it even 33 days after they said it would be done. Avoid at all costs. Slow and apathetic service. Headed into week 7 of a pool remodel. Workers have been onsite a total of 5 days since March 31st. Supposedly on the schedule for next week after two weeks of no work being done. The company constantly reschedules with zero explanation. Not even apologetic about it. They did a beautiful job replastering my pool with the pebble tech and a fitting came off of a outlet valve in the pool. Within 24 hours of the call they came out and fixed it and even offered suggestions for improved water flow for the solar system that heats the pool. I highly recommend this business. read more

Two of their employees almost killed me in morning commute traffic on December 14th in Concord, CA. They literally almost had me pancaked between their truck and a truck behind me because they pulled out into 45 mph moving traffic and parked sideways trying to "squeeze" in to the second lane over. I was less than an inch from hitting them and the truck behind me tapped my bumper.... we were all in motion and these jack@sses just pull out. They did not wait until it was safe to pull out from the neighborhood stop sign, I was honking my horn like crazy trying to slow down in time, my brakes slammed to the floorboard. They literally did all they could to avoid me after from getting their information. They were speeding and dodging traffic...but got caught at a red light where I got their photo. I called and left a message and asked for a return call but to date have heard nothing. They have ignored my call complaints.
