This review is long overdue, as Thomas Pools and Spa completed our pool in February 2022. We pursued bids from multiple companies but decided on Thomas Pools because they are a family-owned business, and we couldn't be happier with that decision. Kaytea managed a portion of our build; she was professional and easy to communicate with. I can't say enough good things about her and the exceptional level of service she provided. I asked several questions throughout the build, yet she was always happy to answer. Charlie and Jimmy built our incredible grotto and our deck. We discussed our design with Charlie, and he delivered. He was as excited as we were about the project and was more than happy to give us additional ideas regarding our design. Similar to Kaytea, Charlie was always happy to answer our questions. Everyone else was also great to deal with, including Ryan, Shane, Rick, the staff in the office, and especially the owner Todd. When the owner comes and ensures that portions of the build are moving as planned, you know you are in good hands. Todd would go above and beyond for any questions or concerns to ensure they were always answered. The professionalism and level of service of this builder are unmatched! Horrible communication... Or actually the lack of!!! I picked this builder based on my nephews experience. After the pool was built soon after I had multiple issues with the wall pieces of the wall stones falling off. In the beginning it was extremely difficult to get anything to fix the issue. Required multiple calls and text messages. Gave up and started fixing anything from the stone wall pieces that fell off. Worse the textlure of the pool plaster color changed for the worse and I complained and complained on deaf ears. You want issues that you have to hire someone else to fix then use this terrible company. My pool was built only 5 years ago. read more

So now Thomas Pools is denying the fact that Rebecca, their office person, has fielded any calls, email or texts from me regarding all of the above issues I listed. Todd himself told me MONTHS AGO that Thomas Pools would be removing the extra concrete. They took it upon themselves to remove old concrete I had and created a different design due to it "looking weird"...that's a direct quote from Todd...but leave a fairly big eyesore worth of concrete that they broke? Comical. And offensive. Essentially calling me a liar about contacting them because I HAVE to assume they checked with Rebecca, and still said they have no indication I've reached out with concerns. I also see no mention of the crazy amount of dirt they left and just conveniently spread out over my lawn. I'm attaching screenshots of text conversations I had with Rebecca who was my point of contact. We also spoke on the phone a lot as well. I didn't realize it was necessary to call or text the owner of the company every day for something the point of contact was handling. Rebecca assured me Paula would call me, which never happened clearly since Paula is alleging that I haven't lodged any complaints. Rebecca also stated that Paula was very upset because there apparently are a lot of jobs that hadn't been completely finished and that she was going to talk to Todd about it and get back to me. She also assured me that Todd or someone else would come back to show me how to use my pool equipment, which still hasn't happened. These are Rebecca's words. Not surprised about one hand not talking to the other. So again, I've already paid a contractor to remove concrete that Todd told me he would have removed. He told me they would also remove the dirt once concrete had been poured and they were assured of not needing any more of it....dirt is STILL here. And since I wrote my original review, they have STILL not reached out to "clear up misinformation". Lately there are several other bad reviews of this company. I've also had other folks reach out to me regarding my review and sharing similar frustration with Thomas Pools. As of 8/15 demo of the backyard and dig have been completed. Ryan has been great to work with, he is very responsive to our calls/texts. Katie has also kept us up to date, we appreciate the communication. The demo and dig crew completed in two days, the crew was very professional and cleaned the site once completed. Update as of 3/26 Things have overall been going good. A lot has been done and I would say we are about 80% done. There have been some concerns that I have brought up and Todd the owner came out to wither fix it or explain things to me. Becca who works in the office has been AWESOME!! She has been keeping us updated and letting us know when workers are coming. She for sure is a big asset at Thomas Pool. She also came on her own time to bring us our rock earlier before they installed it so that we could seal it with a special chemical sealer. I don't know to many places or people that do this. Now the only negative for me at this point was that at the beginning of this build I let Ryan and Becca know that I wanted things done right and not rushed like other pools builders may do, but I did ask for the pool to be completed by the end of March 2021 and it looks like we may be a couple of weeks past that which is kind if a bummer. Things were moving very smoothly even with Covid, however it seemed that after the holidays things really slowed down. I want to believe there is a reason for this, but it seems like there have been time with a 1 or 2 week gap were another job coukd have been going on. It also didn't help that the custom waterfall features we ordered had to come from Pentair who's factory that builds them were closed until January 14. So all in all with everything going on, it's been good I would say. The best work so far has been done by the tile guys and cement crew. The color we added to cement is called Omaha Tan. It looks much nicer in person I think. Here are the latest pictures as all the tile/rock work was completed yesterday 3/25. Wow! Just simply wow! If I could give 10 stars I would. This company was simply amazing from the beginning until the end. Kaytea was amazing when we first met her for a quote. She was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions as a first time pool buyers. She put together couple of different 3D sketches and helped us in our decision making. You always hear nightmares from other pool owners about the process, how sometimes a pool company goes weeks, even months before the next phase. This was not the case with Thomas pools. Once the design was finalized, the digging started shortly after. We live in a new development and other pool companies told us they needed to take down our fences to be able to dig and dump the dirt out. With Thomas and pools, they had a small bobcat that dig up the pool in 2 days without taking out the fence. The only thing that they needed to remove was the side door gate which is understandable. With us always being at work during the day, Todd, the owner of the company kept us up to date with everything that was happening. He was extremely professional and always helpful. I could text or call him at anytime and we would return the call/text the same day. The pool was completed in 7-7 1/2 weeks which was incredible! We had some small hiccups along the way just like any other project, Todd and his team would come by the next day and address/fix those issue. Another nightmare is after the pool is done, that we would never be able to reach the pool company to fix issues. This is not the case with this company. We addressed some issues with cracked concrete, and dusty pool bottom after the initial fill up, and Todd was over the house personally to fix all those issues within a day. Todd personally has be over the house for the set up of our system, salt water pump, I have seen him in the backyard even cleaning our pool when we did not ask for it. He showed us how to use the equipment, walking us through all the functions. We absolutely LOVE our pool! We highly recommend using Thomas Pools for your pool needs. in October we contacted this company for a pool costing $65,000 which we approved. The construction company who dug it out and did the gunite work and tile was awesome. but because of miss communication on the company's part the tile that was to be in the steps didn't get installed and the guys who was to do the rails took wrong measurements and took I've a month. when the came back to put rails in the guys broke the cement and from drilling a bigger holes drilled into the pipe. finally after another month rail was put in but noticed that underneath they did cement the corner where the tile is wasnt fixed. have contacted them many time with no prevail. very bad on communicating and responding to repairs from their mistakes. but they were paid in full. also the man who was to dial in the chemicals never showed up on many occasions which cause the pool only 2 months old to get black mold due to critically low salt. he never came to correct the issue so we went with another pool company for maintaining it. caution when hiring this company. Be smart. Don't use or trust Thomas Pools. They are an absolutely horrible company full of promises with no delivery. We made this mistake and we failed to check things out such as Better Business Bureau and Yelp. We have had nothing but issues with the pool and their sub-contractors are horrible too very shoddy workmanship. We dealt with a few of their employees/owners. Todd, Kaytea to name a few. Kaytea will never reach out unless it benefits her. And if there are issues expect the silent treatment. I tried to reach out via text messages and emails and phone calls to our Contractor Kaytea but she always said really I never got them. I can see one maybe 2 missed but almost every single message and email and call? We had many issues with our pool...cracks, leaks, tile issues not only with the pool but the concrete too. I was told its all aesthetics. Its not aesthetics. I paid almost over 85,000 for pool and as anyone would that contracts to do a project I expect quality and workmanship. They left our yard a mess, total disaster with cigarette butts and trash allover the yard from their subcontractors. And now I am looking to have to pay someone else to get my job done correctly. Pool is done incorrectly and is cracking. Tile is messed up and concrete deck and now my pool leaks will have to be redone as its cracking. I could go on and on but I hope that you get picture. Just be smart avoid this company like the plague. Go smart and go elsewhere or be prepared to pay someone else for their mistakes. I would of left negative stars if I could of. Wish I could lower on this star rating. We had SOO many issues with this contractor. They weren't even the cheapest! They sound fancy and their showroom is nice but they're not. The family ran it when we were there which lead to a lot of covering up and passing the buck and unprofessional treatment. From the design stage where we had to remind them of technical issues like wind direction for skimmer to not updating plans and doing incorrect plans for waterfalls and etc. to now 2 years later we find there has been a gas leak all along. We asked them about this and complained about high gas bills and was told no we were crazy and to expect higher gas bills even when not using the hot tub. Now finally we called PG&E and they confirmed gas leak. This isn't even getting into the issue we had with the color of the plaster (yes it varies naturally but ours is ridiculous inconsistent and they never followed through with their promise to fix with acid wash. We also had a water leak that took over a year to resolve...all along they provided us with horrible customer service. Literally nothing has gone right with this contractor! Don't choose them! BUT every single thing all of these customers are saying is true because this company did the exact same thing to me!!! Terrible communication, half ass work, even down to the cigarette butts all over the yard!!!! I had thought well maybe thomas pools just got very busy and I wasn't spending enough money on my pool for them to offer better customer service. But that is not the case. My back wall, still has wires sticking out. Piece of rebar still sticking out of the yard AFTER I requested the rebar cut back they still left pieces. My neighbor explained that I shouldn't be cleaning up the mess because the pool company would be cleaning it up BUT they did not. Turned off my gas without letting me know. TERRIBLE communication. Water features look like crap and cement all over them. Old cement al over the tiles because they did not take the time to clean up. Was told they would teach me how to use my remote system. The complaints are endless. What i find the most disgusting is how the owners deflect every single complaint on yelp. Have some respect for your customers and your self. Own up to your short comings like a respectable company should. That is so half ass- blaming your customers. I have pictures I have texts from office staff. I recently had friends over and they are looking into a pool. I said do not go with this company. I, as everyone else who has reviewed this company, spoke to the company several times. They passed the buck every time. After many times of saying they would correct or fix an issue, my final payment was paid to them and never heard from them again. Update... Let's begin on how my pool experience began. The time it took is not what I am referencing about. I am talking about the communication that you guys have on paying customers. "Clients like me" would appreciate a call to let me know if you guys are not showing up at least the same day since I change my schedule to be able to be home for you. I called you guys maybe after 3 weeks waiting to hear from you and still didn't get a response. We also had a issue since the beginning when you guys came to dig the pool when the wrong size was almost dug, not to mention the wrong stairs were dug and no one knew and had no idea what we were talking about. Did I mention the day you guys dug the pool, one of the workers got into an argument with another worker and walked off the job. The workers that came to my house left garbage and cigarette butts all over my yard. Also Todd (the owner) spitting all around my yard. I saw him doing it multiple times and I have it on video. The communication to the electricians was also poor. They had to do the electrical job twice. Let's talk about the wall, the wall is a retaining wall not a plantar. It is to make sure my neighbors yard doesn't come crashing into my pool. And for the "free dirt" you guys took all of the dirt and never left enough to be able to backfill the wall. So if it rains there is no dirt to absorb the water and we can lose the wall. That's why Todd came back to just backfill the part where the pool is directly. Half done as usual. Can I also mention there is still rebar sticking up behind the wall. Is that part of what we have to do as paying customers?! Isn't rebar a safety issue as well? Todd came to replace my gate that you guys took down to bring in equipment and was put back incorrectly. That is a safety issue since anyone can come through the gate and drown in my pool. Yes it got fixed because we said something and you guys actually sent a fence person to fix it. Very unprofessional and I am disappointed in the overall job. And I don't expect "free dirt". We signed our paperwork on February 25th, 2022 - thinking this would be plenty of time to have the pool done by June. Nope! Our pool was finally completed on July11th. For a business being in business for 15 years, this company is a joke. We understood from the beginning that we had an unusual backyard, as it is tiered. But we waited over a month on Engineering for them to simply come back and say the rebar just needs to be reinforced. Well duh! It took a month to come up with that??? Dig crew finally came, and was fine, except that garbage was left for us to clean up. Next part was rebar. The first crew to show up seemed drunk. They had bloodshot eyes, were slurring their words, and stumbling. They didn't want to take down the fence to unload the materials. We told them to leave and then texted Kaytea, the "project manager." She assigned us a new crew, but we would be bumped back a week, Guess no good deed goes unpunished! Kaytea Thomas is the "Project Manager" for Thomas Pools & Spas. She does not know what she is doing. She lacks customer service and communication skills. She doesn't know how to deal with upset and authoritative customers. She has no idea how to schedule. Essentially, she has this job because her parents own the business. Even now after the pool is done she has yet to be out to the site. Shepawned us off on to Greg and Ryan, both who are sales guys and have that job to do. Gunite crew was out the beginning of May. This crew broke part of fence and left trash and debris in our walkway. When we told Kaytea about the mess left we were told "it's a process and don't touch anything in the construction area." Well, our walkway is not in the construction area and should have been cleaned like we were told would happen when we signed papers. Now we have been passed on to Becca, who schedules from tile to finish. Concrete would be next, and the concrete guy wanted to see the project to gauge what he would need. Ok, but then we were stood up twice. The pool was over dug from the beginning and now we need a new plan to make everything flow with what is existing. On 5/25 a gunite guy and a Thomas Pools & Spas person were to supposed to show up. Nope! Yet more time of ours wasted. They did finally show up the next day to come up with a plan. We were told in April it wouldn't be anymore then $2500. It ended up being $4000! We were even told that Thomas Pools & Spas "had to eat $1000 in stone to make this right." only to find out that they really didn't because no extra stone was needed. Tile would be scheduled next. When asked we were told "sometime this week." This is literally how this company schedules. Nothing is set in advance, and it is very frustrating for a homeowner. When did tile show up? The next day and we were not informed. Now getting into the 3rd week in June and were told it'd be finished soon. We ask again when pool equipment will be set up. We always had to ask about scheduling. Not sure if anything would have even gotten done had we not take the initiative to ask. Now apparently Kaytea schedules the sub-contractors and Becca schedules with the homeowners. After waiting five days the pool equipment was "installed." Now there is a question about electrical, which was also known from day 1 - now we are losing more days. We now notice the pool equipment was even bolted down and the water line for the pump hadn't been done. Once plaster gets done we get yet another shock. We can't swim for 10 days!! This is definitely something that should be disclosed at signing. We've had a pool before and never had this told to us. Also, pump has to run continuously for several days. One more thing that should have been disclosed to us, especially with the price of electricity. In addition, when we signed our paperwork, Ryan told us we would get two weeks of pool cleaning service as part of getting the pool. Nope! Becca informed us we would just get 50% off. No one is on the same page at Thomas Pools & Spas. Less than a month and a gasket from the skimmer gets sucked up. We are told "that's ok, it's not needed." Pretty sure gaskets are there for a reason. Plus we know have chunks of plaster coming off from the bottom. Contacted Todd and he said he'd get back to us. Two days later, and after we texted yet again to let them know we were unhappy, we get the response "the plaster guys will contact you." This is obviously not something we can fix and should have never happened, especially since that was "the best crew." We then get a response from Todd, the owner, stating "At this point on you're not to contact any of my employees from here on out . . . " Which would be fine, had he actually gotten back to us. If you are thinking of getting a pool, find a company who won't waste your time and is more organized and more customer centered. read more

Everything was off to a great start, until it wasn't. I had my initial appointment with Becky and all was well. She followed up a week later with her design but I wanted to go over some changes. I received absolutely NO response to my emails, calls or texts. I called the office and she was with a client, never heard back from her. I really wanted to work with Thomas pools because of the previous good reviews and I really liked that they were family oriented and I would be dealing with the owners themselves. After having almost each and every local pool company come out, we decided to go with Thomas Pools and Spa for our pool/spa project. We waited four years for our pool dream to come true and feel extremely happy and blessed for that dream to come true. Both my husband and I were very nervous in the beginning as this is prob going to be our 1st and only pool project but were extremely happy and satisfied with this whole process. We met Greg and Rebecca who designed our project and they were very patient with us. We waited almost 6months or even more to sign & didn't feel like Greg or Rebecca were pushy or annoyed to answer any of our questions. Due to Covid our project took a little while to start but once they started to dig it took them 9-10wks like they had informed us. Now they say they turned it over to warranty . Also forgot to run wires to pool cover. Ownership has been called . and always out of office on another line. for a week never one return call from ownership they just don,t care. also while digging pool broke two inch water line. was told they would fix . Our pool process with this company began last August 2021 when I called to get a quote and talked to Paula, the owner to set up a appointment. I found her to be honest in telling me that because of Covid, things in the pool industry and her company were backed up and that we would not be able to have our pool done if we chose to go with them until the following summer. We set up the appointment with Ryan for the following month. Ryan showed up on time and went over my vision of what I was looking for. He took measurements & said he'd have a quote in a few days. The first draft I received did not fit my budget and I needed to make some changes. He revised his plans with in a day and sent over what I was looking for with both the budget and design. I then made a appointment with him to sign the contract and pick out the pool finishes and pool equipment. Fall and winter came and left without knowing when the process was going to start. I called & texted asking for updates and got passed around with different people in the company sometimes weeks and or a month at times with no response. (Communication is a big problem with this company!) So, I finally get a call on February 1, 2022 saying they finally plan to dig in the next 2 days. From this point, I started working with Rebecca, she was my point person and answered all my questions and answered all my calls. If it wasn't for her I would have lost my mind during this process. She went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with everything. So from February to May 1st it was crunch time to get my pool ready for this summer and I could not be happier with the end result. It truly is beautiful. I want to give a huge thank you to all the different crews who worked on this project and to Rebecca, who stepped up and stood by my side to make my vision happen. I would honestly give this company ZERO stars. After meeting with initial staff - Ryan, and his father we decided to go with this company. Ryan really captured what our vision was for our pool. We spent months designing the perfect pool for our space. This is no ordinary pool! After several months, the above mentioned staff members left the company. This is when our experience went left. I honestly have never received such poor customer service from a company I have spent so much money with. It's appalling that they feel this treatment is acceptable. Good luck on receiving a call back. I've asked to speak to their owner on numerous occasions and I have NEVER been contacted. Now our fountain isn't working (again) and despite us checking for any blockage - which there is none of the company has the nerve to tell us to pay $170 to send someone. This pool is only months old. Why am I responsible for paying for someone to look at what could be faulty equipment? This is not the first time they have had to come out previously to repair their mistakes. Unbelievable!!! read more

Well after signing in August we are finally finished. It was a super long process but very happy with the results. Communication was very rough throughout this whole process and I found myself checking in to see where we were at most of the time.Dig day was October 20th, Gunite was Dec 8th, cement pour was Feb 6th and last was solar panels on April 2nd. Becca was great in trying to handle everything on her plate which was alot. I didn't push at first at all but began getting tired of not hearing from anyone weeks to months at a time. Organization and communication is key to me and it seem like it was a struggle. We are happy to be done and Todd left on april 2nd with his last Job with us. We never received a thank you for business or even a good bye but I'm just glad we are done! After a long 8 months we will be ready for summer. I dont normally do reviews but because of the reviews is the reason I went with this company. They are wonderful people but just help or to slow down on signing up more projects before the ones in progress are complete. read more

I came into yelp looking for a pool company that can help us remodel our pool. I called Thomas Pools and Spas and they were very quick to get us an appointment for an estimate. The owner came out and gave us an estimate ,was very polite, and told us he'd have the estimate in by the end of the week (it was a Wednesday) so it seemed like a reasonable amount of time, only we never heard from them again! I called and left a message leaving my information days after the estimate was due in case there was a mixup and still no communication. Thomas Pools and Spa came highly recommended to us. My husband and I were so excited to meet with them. When Greg Wolf came out to visit and review our backyard, he bought with him, his personal portfolio of designs he had made. They were amazing. We thought, we were in great hands. The visit happened Tuesday evening, so Greg advised us we would have a design Friday evening that week. We waited patiently, but nothing in our email. So we texted Greg, who advised he was working on it. Again we waited another week, still no design, then after a couple of weeks of waiting, we get an email from Greg, telling us he has a design ready. My husband and I opened the email with baited breath, only to be disappointed. Greg, had taken a design we had and made a slight adjustment to it, and sent me that design. We were shocked. Not only did we NOT get a design, he envisioned in our back yard, but just another person's design with a small adjustment to it. This is the first pool that my husband and I have ever built, but ti seems, like companies don't care to follow thru on their promises. We have reached out to both Greg and Thomas Pools, but have yet to wait to get a response. read more

This review is for the quoting/estimate process only. We did not ultimately contract with this company to build our pool. We interviewed four pool builders and Thomas had a lot of positive attributes. They are a family owned and operated company, which we liked. I also heard good things about Todd Thomas from others in the industry, and heard that he personally does a lot of the work on-site, which was reassuring. Kaytea was our designer and she was very friendly, personable and low pressure. She came out and measured our yard, listened to our needs and promptly sent us a nice design. The price they came back with was extremely competitive and was actually the lowest of the bids we received. In the end, we simply ended up liking a different builder's design slightly better. Although we did not end up building a pool with Thomas, they seem like a good company to work with. Anyone in the market for a pool in the Central Valley should definitely give Thomas Pools & Spas a call. read more
