I read about this chain on ecofabulous, and figured that if I ever passed through the Portland/Salem area, would give it a try. Definitely did not disappoint! I love love love Burgerville. So much so that I would kill to have one in Salem. Their burgers and shakes are terrific, but the fires? Eh, not a fry fan so I can't be too judgemental. Great place! I felt as though I should have gotten one of their excellent looking burgers--it is a burger joint, after all--but got a deluxe crispy chicken sandwich instead, with a side of rosemary shoestring fries and garlic aioli. Yum!!! From the multigrain bun to the thick bacon to that savory aioli, all of the ingredients were of top quality. For about the same price as a meal at Burger King, you can get a much, much better meal at Burgerville. read more

Heck ya I'm giving a fast food my five star and here is why! I drove 45 mins away just to get a strawberry short cake that tastes just as if I were to have made it myself. I was raised on a farm picking berries and know what fresh farm berries taste like and not gross syrup stuff from other places is like. I also really like the Tillamook cheese burgers here because while yes I don't normally eat burgers at a fast food place unless it's In n Out or made at home because I'm such a steak head these burgers you can't pass up. They also have a burger that tastes similar to the Bob's Hamburgers if you all remember that place with the special sauce. It takes me back down memory lane to take a bite into one of those cheese burgers. The milkshakes are so yummy and made with fresh berries and not the gross syrups! Burgerville keeps it real! It's impossible to give Burgerville less than three stars, their culture is so good it demands two stars on culture alone. Service here was good today, promptly greeted when we walked in the door and with a smile, no less. Food was brought quickly. Lady cleaning the tables very friendly. Much improved since last visit to this location. This location gets mighty packed at lunch and the seating area feels too cramped to me. It could easily be twice the size. There was a guy sleeping in the booth behind me. Kind of off-putting. I guess Burgerville allows vagabonds to crash in their restaurants? Some of the tables are absurdly close to the bathrooms. Same issues with the burger persist. Everything but the "Burger" part is good. Bacon A+++. Fresh veggies. Burger patty smallish and dry. Why is the burger at Burgerville so damned unremarkable?! Look, that's my first use of profanity on this site and I stick by it. Price? Closing in on $20 for two burger meals, one with a shake. It might be fast food but it sure ain't cheap. We live out of state and Burgerville is always one of our first stops when we come to Oregon to visit family. This particular location isn't too far off I-5 so it's a nice stop on road trips. You can't got wrong with any burger but my favorite things are the season items. The summer is all about berries. Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackberry all made into lemonade or smoothies. So delicious and a Pacific Northwest business so that's another reason to support them instead of other fast food chains! read more

Burgerville is the bomb diggity. Tillamook Cheddar on all the burgers. Everything is super fresh. What really makes Burgerville the best is the seasonal menu. They go out of their way to bring new fresh items when they are at the peak of their awesomeness. Whether it's the Walla Walla Onion Rings (an order of 3 is like getting 25 onion rings from some other place), the fresh blackberry shakes (no fake berry here, they only serve this when there are actual blackberries in season... yes, I am looking at you, Jack-In-The-Box!), the sweet potato fries... Mmmm... I'm getting hungry just writing the review. And for the vegetarians in your traveling party, Burgerville has some of the best veggie burger fare around. It's no afterthought here. These are legit menu items that even the carnivores in your party would love. I saw Burgerville while heading back to Corvallis from Target and was intrigued. I had the American Colossal burger with fries, iced tea, and their special sauce. The burger was great, it was cooked just right and toppings all worked really well. The fries were good, but I didn't know rosemary fries were an option when I order them and have deep regret. The dipping sauce for them though was excellent. This place is a really solid 4 stars in my mind. The next time I make a Target run this is a likely stop. read more

Fantabulous! The only other fast food I enjoy is In-N-Out Burger, and that's what I have semi-locally, so it's always a little overwhelming for me to go to a Burgerville and see all the menu choices. I get over it, though ;-) So: when was the last time you went into a fast-food joint and saw words like "asparagus," "garlic," or "aioli"? About never, right? Well, as I write this (May 2010), Burgerville is offering Golden Fried Asparagus Spears served with garlic aioli. Wow! What's more, they're delicious, and while your fingers get a little oily, the spears are not greasy at all. Wife got a halibut filet sandwich, and I got a pepper bacon cheeseburger. Both were very good. True to its Northwest roots, Burgerville uses Tillamook cheese--much nicer than what you'll find at any other fast food place. Also true to those roots, it appeals to Oregonians and Washingtonians (natives, anyway) with its green/sustainable/natural/locally-produced and procured/environmental/health-food-esque menu and business practices. So you can feel good about yourself while indulging in some beefy, calorie-laden comfort food--which you don't eat every day anyway, so you have no reason to feel guilty, so don't! I always like to try the seasonal shakes; this time, it was strawberry. It was one of the best shakes I've ever had anywhere. Can't wait to try the Marionberry shake later this summer! I noticed that everyone who worked there was not only polite and helpful, but that they were also native speakers of English, and appeared to be from the surrounding community. That's a very nice change from what I experience in Baja Norte--uh, I mean, The People's Democratic Republic of California--where every other restaurant employee seems to speak some mysterious, unknown tongue as their first language, yet are unable to provide service equalling that of the teenagers (and middle-aged ladies) staffing Burgerville. We've been here twice so far. A lot to read, so I'll summarize if you want the tl;dr version at the bottom. Food: Average fast food menu for the most part, with some good specials. Burgers and fries and shakes that are pretty much as good as you'd expect from any other fast food place. The specials can be a nice deviation from the ordinary. Their sweet potato fries are pretty good, and the blackberry shake we had definitely had real blackberry in it. Our friend's blackberry lemonade had a layer of blackberries at the bottom. Price: They have sustainable practices, which amounts to about a 10% increase in price over other fast food joints. Their frequent customer program is pretty cool though. They combine gift card and member card and give you like 10% back on every purchase. You get $5 to spend on your birthday too. Decor: Its a fast food place. Half indoor, half outdoor seating. Kept pretty clean usually though. Service: This is where they really need to pick up a little. Our first time was late night after a movie, pretty quiet, and we got our order fast and without issue. Second time we went was yesterday for their Labor Day special, $10 for 10 cheeseburgers. It was really really busy and the chick at the register really screwed up the payment part of our order. She had to enter it in no less than 3 times. There was no manager onsite, only a senior cashier or something. On the bright side, we got double orders of almost everything for free. Summary: Worth the premium price if you're big on sustainability, though staple menu items are mostly indistinguishable from other fast food joints. Same minimum-wage service problems as any other place, though they do have some interesting specials that are worth checking out once in awhile. read more

This will be one of my shorter reviews, I was in town and was craving a burger, so we decided to give this place a try. I got the pepper bacon burger which tasted good rest of the family got normal cheeseburgers. I have to say the food is not worth the prices, i still felt hungry afterwards and still having the craving for a good burger. The prices also do not include fries or drinks, all of that is separate. For the cost I would rather sit down at an applebees or even better a red robin for a better more filling burger for the same cost. read more

I went to the Burgerville website and they had a basket-upgrade coupon for the price of a sandwich on the seasonal spicy cranberry chicken sandwich. It was great. Lots of flavor. We also had the fresh pumpkin shakes and they were phenomenal. Also don't forget to get a discount on your next visit by visiting the website with your receipt within 72 hours. I've said it before: In-n-out is kinda overrated and I'm sorry we have to listen to all the CA folks constantly refer to it whenever a burger place is reviewed. I love Burgerville and eat mainly at Portland area locations which never fail. Roadtripping south we stoped at the Albany location for a 2nd try and were so disappointed (again). The service was just short of rude both times. This time we got two blissshakes (so good at Portland locations) and they are not edible. Chunky, gritty, icey, way too much flavoring added, not fully mixed... curdled almost? Huge disappointment. Don't waste your money on them at this location. I ordered the northwest burger w/burger sauce instead of mayo and ketchup and also add BBQ onions but the rest regular toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles). ok so I grew up in Vancouver and so im a bit partial to my burgerville food cuz we don't have anything like it in so cal. but ive been to this location many times on my way up to visit my family in WA. I love their seasonal food, especially the blackberry lemonade....but my fav is always their fish as far as regular food....fish and chips, fish sandwich, salmon salad. last time there I got the fish sandwich with grilled walla walla onions for topping and the apple pie ala mode shake....tasted just like apple pie ala mode if it was heavy on the ice cream....its fast food so its not fine dining but for what you get, its a reasonable price and they try to use recyclable materials for carry out and dine in. so im giving burgerville a big shout out for what they do for the fast food industry. read more

A recent trip truly opened my eyes to the glory of Portland's Burgerville, and it turned out to be my only 5-Star dining experience in the city. On my last day in the area, I decided to give their breakfast menu a go, so do keep in mind that this review only pertains to the breakfast selection at Burgerville. tl;dr There's a reason it isn't called Breakfastville Star 1 - Was the service good? While no different from any other burger chain in terms of direct service, it's the indirect services that made me immediately fall in love with Burgerville. An open fitness nut and calorie-counter, I was absolutely blown away when I saw the full nutrition contents of my order printed right on my receipt. Moreover, directly underneath the nutrition facts were various tips and tricks to lowering the caloric content of my specific order, 100% unprecedented even among the most health-conscious of fast food establishments. Corporate executives from McDonalds and Chipolte alike could learn a thing or two from how Burgerville does things. Star Granted. Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost? While typically the burgers and fries are worth every penny, I was actually a bit disappointed with the size of the breakfast portions relative to the cost. My $7 Sausage Breakfast Burrito was disappointingly small, and I couldn't help but feel that I'd have been better off at any other Breakfast establishment on the street. No Star Granted. Stars 3/4 - Did the food taste good? Once again, I truly can't emphasize enough how amazing Burgerville is, just not for breakfast. Breakfast Burritos are pretty straightforward, and because they're so hard to mess up, you really have to bring your A-Game if you're going to make a truly great breakfast burrito. In this regard Burgerville fell short. While made fresh to order (VERY impressive), the eggs were a bit bland, and, according to my receipt, they managed to cram 52g of fat into a bit of sausage and cheese. How in the heck did they manage that? Overall, while I'll gladly give a star for the fresh eggs, my burrito was a bit of a disappointment. Single Star Granted. Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could? Burgerville is hand's down my favorite dining option in Portland, and I could pick from their regular menu every single day without issue. BV was highly recommended to my by a couple of different Portland area locals, but overall, the burgers are slightly above average (at best), are somewhat overpriced and are fairly overrated. And regarding being sustainable... I prefer great, juicy burgers to sustainable, overpriced and overrated burgers. read more

This goes for all the restaurants. The Rosemary's Fries are to salty but the flavor is good. All fried items are way to greasy and oily. Buying some onion rings over the drive thru and having the oil passed the brown bag and fall in my pants was not a pleasant experience. read more

Depending on what you order, the food can be pretty good or pretty bland. Despite being called Burgerville, none of the burgers are really that fantastic. Certainly better than a burger from McD's or BK, but not enough to justify paying double the price for a meal at Burgerville, since everything is ordered a la carte. Although if you ordered only a burger, the price difference isn't that big from a specialty burger at other fast food joints. The chicken sandwiches are quite good, although they don't have many options like they do with burgers. The sweet potato fries are amazing as are the walla walla onion rings. A guilty pleasure for me. People can only compare this place to In N' Out because there are so few other frames of reference. I could imagine the place being quite novel and quirky to the outsider, living here awhile I see that it totally makes sense. Oregonians love local products, sustainability, seasonality, and people being treated O.K at their jobs. Burgerville has marketed all these things quite well. From what I can tell, they do it well. Oregon Country Beef ain't grass-fed, but it is pretty good considering we're talking "fast food" here. I like the burgers here, other wackier things: not so much. Hits and misses on the menu. I like they give you Malt Vinegar for the fries. Shakes are very tasty, again halfway between McD's and a $7 blender drink. Too spendy. Slow too. Which is my real problem with the place. It is like a up-class "feel better about yourself" convenience food that is neither convenient or inexpensive. You must deprogram from the cheap food mentality, but when its dressed up like cheap food and it isn't you reel. As a Slow-Food kind of person, its presents all sorts of moral conflict. But I can say that the majority of people I've seen working here looked moderately pleased they were there. I wish we had one in Corvallis, actually. read more
