Very rude service from the old lady working the counter on 15 Feb 2026 @ 7 pm. We pulled up to BK in car and saw the outside lights of BK out, yet people inside were eating. I get out of car and look at operating hours which says closing at 10 pm. I go inside and mention nicely to the lady the lights are not on. She does not even look at me and keep working. The Mrs comes inside and the lady immediately says "hi, can I help you". In my opinion, the lady does not like black, which I am. She did not know we were together until I stand next to her. Mrs placed take out order. The lady never looked at me or asked if I wanted anything. I told Mrs to get takeout. I would not order or eat in that uncomfortable BK. We were in town trying to do some specific shopping. When we pulled in to Lompoc, Dear Hubby was hungry and wanted something warm and filling. We didn't have time for a big sit-down meal. None of the other fast food places we were passing on H Street were appealing to me. Then we saw Burger King. Since my eye doctor urged me to go with a non-dairy diet a couple of years ago, it's been a big challenge to find food that I used to enjoy with cheese, to go without it. I don't eat burgers very often, so that's not a huge sacrifice to miss out on cheeseburgers. But, when you have a craving, missing the golden melted cheese is definitely a downer. BK's Whopper actually helps make up with it with their tangy pickles, flame-broiled beef (which really does bring out the flavor), and their secret sauce. I had the first one I'd had since the non-dairy regimen, and it was really good. Like eat slowly and savor good. The regular size is actually large for me. Next time I'd go for the Whopper Junior. Their fries are superior to some competitors that are known for their fries. There, I said it! This location seems to be a drive-thru hub in town. While DH and I were eating inside, a steady stream of cars passed by the drive-thru lane. BK is celebrating their 70th year of serving flame-broiled burgers, and this store has a rebranded exterior and interior to go with the anniversary. The cashier at the counter was welcoming and efficient. Based on our experience, I'm not sure why so many folks have been down on them. So I don't go to fast food restaurants very often but every once in awhile, I crave a whopper. I love the tomatoes, the lettuce, the onions, and it all just comes together for me. But I have to say my last two trips there were disappointing. Their whopper sandwich is not full of the vegetables that had before and it just doesn't have the same good flavor used to have. Also I'll have to say, but I tried the original chicken sandwich, which I have not had in many years, and my characterization of the chicken patty would be a large pile of salt and I'm someone who loves salt but this was way over the top. I'm quite certain that they have completely changed how they make their food and it isn't for the better. Idiots run this place. I'm staying in the hotel next door. They see me coming from the hotel next door. It's a Hilton property and not a cheap one. It's exactly 10pm. They lock the door in front of me as I walk up. OK, I get it. You want to close at ten. The place is full of people and you lock me out. I gesture towards the drivethrough and the girl nods "OK". It's still open till midnight. I walk through the drive through. The girl at the window proceeds to tell me that she can't serve me without a car, as it's company policy and to protect her "safety". I explain that I'm at the hotel next door and getting my car is futile, stupid, and not needed. I just want a burger and to go back to my room. We argue for ten full minutes. Finally, she gives in, but tells me I have to wait in the grass because a "car is coming". Somehow this person is royalty, because they're in a car. Just then, another guy walks up through the drive through behind the car. He's as confused as I am and staying at the same hotel. The woman in the car now has me waiting to the side and another guy on foot behind her. To make it interesting, now the police pull up and nearly draw guns on me and the other guy that is standing there. We're both professionals, staying at the hotel for work That's who stays at this hotel. The front desk manager recounted going through the same procedure of walking through the drive through when I asked what was still open, so this obviously happens all the time. The cop walks up and has his hand on his gun. Seriously. This all really just happened. My burger was ready and I grabbed it and walked away without looking back. That asshole seriously could have shot me. I was extremely nervous that this cop would go all the way and draw his gun, because we... walked through the drive through? I think the other guy is being questioned still. How dare he try and spend money at this restaurant without a car because it's parked in the same damn parking lot already, while he stays at the Hilton property next door!!! The girl that locked me out watched all this from the kitchen and laughed and laughed and laughed. I wish there was a way to make a rating of negative ten. Or negative Thirty. It's been tough for everyone during the Pandemic, but every time I come to this Burger King something is amiss. It's been ongoing for years. Sorry, we're out of milkshakes, sauce, chicken nuggets, etc. This is the final time for me. I get this is fast food and we are dealing with teenagers, but the ownership and management must not care enough to make it better. Last night (4/25/20) I show hoping to get my daughter a milkshake. I wish I could give it zero stars. I went at 8:30 through the drive through, and they had me wait 20 minutes at the order box. When they told us "I'll be with you in just a moment" for the third time, we told the lady "cmon we've been here for a long time" and she STRAIGHT UP NO LIE, told us "if you don't like it, leave" like??? How were we supposed to leave if there was a car in front of us and in the back of us?? And then when we got our order and we asked for ketchup she told us there were no more ketchups and she could put ranch or BBQ sauce instead? We didn't ask for that and she insisted we get that. And she was talking so slow and took more time than needed to to swipe my card. 0/5 stars, never coming back. The Burger King in Santa Barbara had the same bad service and now it's closed. If all burger kings are like this, no wonder they're going out of business. Shame. And when I bit into my chicken fry, there was some kind of clump, chewy thing that I couldn't bite through.
