I grew up eating at Burger Hut (back when it was on Nord) and I love the food. But I've noticed that customer service has not been the best past few times, then I was very disappointed tonight with how things were "handled/not handled" with our order. Four customers who ordered after us got their food before we did (they were dining in, ours were to go), the cook was asking the cashier what cheese we wanted after waiting there for 20+ minutes, they messed up our buns and I was just letting the cashier know that they messed up our buns and he literally asked "do you want to flip them real quick?" while he tried to hand me back the burgers. I was just wanting to get new buns so we can maybe take it back and do it at home but his response was just not what I was expecting. Not even a sorry:( It just sucks to experience bad service at a restaurant you love eating at. Also there were many leaks from the ceiling in the middle of the restaurant! My partner's family lives in Chico so we are in town on a fairly regular basis. She decided to take me to one of the local spots for a burger and fries. Let me start off by saying that I love burgers and fries, especially sweet potato fries. So, I was excited. We ended up going there twice. The first time I got the salad bar because I had eaten too much meat already that day. The salad bar was great for 5 bucks. Nothing fancy, just your basic salad bar fare. It was very similar to the kind of stuff you see on a basic buffet salad bar. We had sweet potato fries the first time. They were really good. They are cut like steak fries. I generally prefer thinner but they were well cooked. The second time, I had mixed feelings.I ordered a 1/4lb hamburger on a gluten free bun and we got both the thin regular fries and the ballpark garlic fries. Both types of french fries were delicious. The burger, however, left something to be desired. First off they make no mention (that I saw) on their menu that they heavily season them (as opposed to let's say some salt and pepper) and that they put a layer of BBQ sauce on them. The burger was over cooked and dry. For a place called "Burger Hut" I honestly expected better. The GF bun was actually really good for being gluten free. It appears that they have a lot of variety including many different types of burgers. Since I take issue with the burger in general, that doesn't do much for me. Plus almost 2 dollars for some grilled mushrooms and some of their other sides is a bit on the high side, in my opinion. My partner says they have some good shakes which I believe by the look of them. I'm sure we will go back because she likes it, especially for nostalgia's sake. I love Burger Hut!!! The staff is always very friendly and polite. We weren't sure what would be open New Years Day but here they are! The staff gave us a heads up that there was a bit of a wait but we don't mind. The burgers are always delicious and I love the tater tots! Yum! Ordered from them from the 1st time and they advertise on their website that they will come to her car and do contactless curbside delivery. We got there about 12 minutes late , so we naturally expected our order to be more than ready, since I ordered it 45 minutes earlier, because we don't live nearby. According to their website, it would have been ready in 20 minutes, however, if I wanted it right away. I only ordered food for 2 people. Very very basic food! There was nothing in my order that would have taken any time to cook beyond that the French fries. So we get there 12 minutes late and I call the 1st time to let them know we are parked outside and someone answers and we immediately get disconnected, so tried again and get put on hold for 5 minutes and o o e ever comes back on the line. I hang up and proceed to call 17 more times in the span of 3 minutes and it was a busy signal every single time!!!! I was in complete shock. If I hadn't already paid on line, I would have left and gave my business to someone else. I was forced him to go inside and stand there in A-line, which I avoid since the pandemic, but I had no choice. So I finally get to the front of the line and the food's not even fuckin ready! I couldn't believe it! Had to go back in my damned car and wait even longer. And then someone comes out and hands me the bag inside my car. Not sure what they think contactless curbside delivery is, but that sure as fuck wasn't it! We were gonna let it slide if the food was amazing but it wasn't at all! My son likes almost every Burger, and he couldn't even finish half of that, plus it was paper thin! Fries are better at Jack in the Box! Never ever will we go here again! I took my kids there on a Saturday around 12:30 and the place was super busy. The menu is on a board behind the register and I had to ask if they had any kids items because none were listed. The cashier's answer was, "yeah, but that board is broken." Okay, can you tell me what you have? "Uh we have corn dogs, grilled cheese, a burger." Okay, how much are they? "Uh, I think like 3.99." Obviously this wasn't going well. So I ordered a kids burger, kids corn dog, regular burger, and small fry, no drinks. $19 later (seriously) we went to find a seat. This is the kind of place where they call your name when the order is ready you pick it up, and then you put your own condiments on from the bar. They have a decent variety such tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, And a few different sauces to choose from. They also have a salad bar that looked decent. Lord knows how much that cost. Then you clean up after yourself when you're done, so it's basically fast food. Both of the burgers were fine, though overpriced but my main complaint is the corn dogs. I literally got 4 one inch long corn dogs for $3.99. That's ridiculous! It's been over ten years since I've been here and I will probably not be back. My wife ordered the 1/4lb burger on gluten free bun and garlic fries. My burger was below average and nearly completely black. The tomatoes were like plastic kids toys and the lettuce looked like snails have been chewing on it for a week. My wife didn't get the gluten free bun and her burger patty was about the size of a Ritz cracker. Her garlic fries were a soggy greasy mess and tasted like crap. A great place to go with a large group to have a solid burger, deliciously hot fries (tried the garlic, sweet potato and regular fries and they were all wonderfully crispy and well seasoned) and beer on tap. I like that Burger Hut has a fixings bar so you can pile all the pickles, lettuce and tomatoes you want on your burger. Like Roy Rogers, but fresher. The Sierra Nevada mustards were also excellent. The burgers are on the small size, but appropriately priced. The beef patties all have BBQ sauce on them already, which was fine with me since I love BBQ sauce. Visited for the first (and last) time. Almost $9.00 for a child's size burger. Nothing special about it. I would prefer a happy meal at McDonald's, for less than half the price. Halfway through our burgers, we still didn't have our fries. Walked up to the counter, the employee said he was getting them. There was a basket of fries sitting under the warmer. He picked up an empty basket, grabbed the full basket and dumped half of that order into the second basket. So, after waiting all that time, we split an order of fries, that were way over cooked for our taste. The place is filthy. My feet were sticking to the floor. Several tables that were dirty when we walked in, were still dirty when we left. The condiments were down to the bottom of the barrel and all mixed up together. They need to do better. I like Burger Hut a lot, but I don't love it. I go here a few times a year and I'm always satisfied, but not always wanting to go back...at least not right away. I typically get one of a few things. I switch between the burger, hotdog, or chicken strips. The food is great quality and you can really customize what you want. Downside to customization is the fact that all those items add up really quick to make a very expensive meal. I guess that's the thing that keeps me from wanting to come back more regularly. Walked into find the cashier not smiling, took our order without so much as a smile or even a Thank You, almost like we were a burden to her for us being there! Will have to say that later she did smile at something the cook said to her, (my guess he was flirting??) Cashier did do some side work around the restaurant, cleaning, refilling, etc, but never once a smile for any of the costumers, that we saw anyway!! Please have City of Chico trim the two trees beside the road in front of the restaurant, In a tall vehicle, it's very hard to see past them to check for traffic, making it very unsafe trying to pull across the street!! Absolute worst burger ever....we came for the first time. I ordered a Double meal for 10.99. I expected two 1/4 pound patties as it was more money than the 1/4 pound meal. Which is what a double burger is in a thousand other burger joints. What I got was a burger the size of a kids burger but with 2 kids patties on it.....total rip off. It was a dried out, over cooked tasteless crap burger. How about clarifying on your over priced flashy LCD screen menu WTF people pay for. I've been a customer of Burger Hut's for over 30 years and unfortunately after today I will never go back. They were busy but still no excuse for the way we were treated by the cook and the girl at the counter. After waiting 25 to 30 minutes for our name to be called my wife went to the cook to inquire. He bluntly told her when her order is done her name would be called and turned his back. After 5 more minutes and numerous names being called for people that came in after us she went to the girl at the counter who looked it up in the computer and advised that the cook had the order. They stand 10 feet apart and she refused to inquire with the cook or to make thing right. She did refund our money and we left hungry. Probably a 4 star restaurant. Food is great, but the environment is slightly sloppy. Food stains on tables, bird poop on outside tables. Higher staff would be nice! I would recommend putting a "Now Hiring" sign outside to rack in some low paying workers but HEY! It's not my restaurant! Food is actually amazing!
