4.5 I hadn't been to Mama's Kitchen in over a year at least…read moreand this time picked up a carryout order for six people. Walking in for the order, it was the same wonderful down-to-earth diner ambiance that I love! I have come to believe that carryout can be more difficult for both staff and customers because it needs to be done right at the beginning because there's no opportunity to correct things later- without a return visit. There were a few things that weren't quite right and I'm not sure if it had to do with me reading texts from my family, if I got it wrong, or if it was on the part of the restaurant. No matter, it had to do with side dishes and not main entrees. Still, the little things could have been easily remedied if we had dined at the restaurant- which wasn't an option for many reasons, including the restaurant's limited hours, as they were only open until 3pm on a Sunday. When I picked up the orders, a staff member helped me carry the bags out to my car, which I greatly appreciated. Everyone at this restaurant was super nice! Since we were celebrating my mom's birthday, her entree was the most important and she said the liver and onions were delicious. My nephew was very happy with his chicken chunks. My niece didn't complain about her beef nachos. My brother and sister in law said their orders were just okay - a philly sandwich with onion rings and a turkey sandwich with gravy and onion rings. They said the sandwiches lacked flavor. Since they didn't comment about the onion rings, I'm judging from the photos that they looked amazing. My Turkey Reuben was fabulous, along with the fries. Plus, the side of Thousand Island dressing was perfectly delicious. It's hard to make everyone happy, so my rating is partly based upon my consistently excellent experience at Mama's Kitchen, including omelettes and other breakfast/brunch food. I would overall recommend Mama's Kitchen for its delicious homemade dishes and warm service. Therefore, I'm rounding up to five stars for this unassuming diner that generally over-delivers at a great value for your money!

The waitress was friendly and accommodating. I ordered Al's breakfast special, 3 eggs of choice, 3 bacon or 3 sausage or ham, hash browns, side of homemade sausage gravy and biscuit or toast. The country gravy had a hint of sage that surprised me. Not my favorite but I did eat all of it. Thank you for the enjoyable breakfast.

First time ever trying R Diners as a recommendation from a friend. (Thanks Brian!!)…read more TAKE OUT: Piping hot. Ready when promised and the restaurant was standing only. Line out the door. Not a single open table. Lots of smiling faces in front and behind the counter. The place appeared clean and inviting. The service was busy busy and still very joyful and polite. I ordered the French toast (4) with sausage links and eggs. The French toast was tasty but because they were packed, it's reasonable the cook rushed the egg wash soak before cooking. But when using thick Texas toast, if you don't allow a moment for the bread to soak up the egg wash then you'll end up with some dry French toast pieces. A few were just that but-- I'm not complaining because this place was JAMMED PACKED! It was still pretty good. The 3 sausage links, unlike all the other restaurants around, these were Huge! Not those pinky finger sized links but big round fat and juicy sausage links. Delicious. 3 eggs over hard arrived as one giant egg with 3 yolks. A big ole pancake sized egg. lol. It was cooked well done as I asked with a little too much of the brown crust on the whites. But still yummy and I'm still not complaining. I just prefer less of that browning. It's simply from an overheated grill (too hot singed the egg whites) so No big deal. I'd rather be over done than underdone. Still very good and flavorful with a little sale n pepper. And last but not least: fried breaded dill pickle spears with generous amount of ranch. While I prefer a batter dipped fried pickle over breaded, these were AMAZING! Cooked to perfection. No hint of frozen taste. They tasted homemade! The ranch dressing dip is what we call the "good ranch" you can't find at the stores. The homemade stuff that elevates you 3 inches off the ground because it's so good. Prices were reasonable, the portions filling with left overs for lunch . The meals included generous amounts of dipping sauce, syrup and butter in my to-go without asking for more. This is my new favorite place to go for diner foods and by the overflowing parking lot, looks like I'm not alone. This is hands down 1000x better than anything I've ever ordered at Leo's Coney. The burger was well done (there's a sign that says this is how the cook them, so I was expecting that). They're cooked on a flat-top, so the burgers do get that crusty edge to them. The toppings are diced... So, the problem with diced lettuce and onions is they tend to fall out of the sandwich. It just makes it a pain to eat. They used 2 slices (very thin, I might add) of tomato. The very thin, small slices were not placed evenly over the burger but stacked on top. Lazy prep on the sandwich maker's part. The bun was not really toasted and very doughy. The doughy bun wasn't unique to this visit. It's just 5 Guys standard burger bun. It's too large and really needs to be toasted (they really need to just use different buns). I didn't order fries as who really needs 5 pounds of French fries??? Especially since an order of fries is something close to $5 bucks. It's their gimmick and it's just dumb. I did ask if they had a smaller, more reasonable side of fries and the gal rather sheepishly said they did not, but she too wishes they did. Even if they offered a combo for a small savings??? On the plus side, they do have one of those seemingly, endless-choice soft drink machines where you can get almost anything you can think of. Love those! The place is clean, and the staff was nice. So, my burger and regular beverage was $14.00. I can get a better burger with fries AND A TALL DRAFT BEER at Good Times for the same money. 5 Guys just isn't worth it...
