a half eaten hot dog on a piece of paper

Came here with my husband to try the place out after passing by a few times. We first ordered the hot dogs with chips and drink and then went back thru line to try the ice cream. We unfortunately are not fans of the hot dogs. I tried the chili dog. The chili or hot dog sauce is not bad, but the hot dog itself was lifeless. It was not hot and didn't have any flavor. My husband didn't order his with chili and he said the hot dog tasted raw and overall didn't taste very good. I give this review 3-stars because the ice cream was quite good. It was creamy and sweet and much needed on a hot day. Will return for the ice cream.

I absolutely adore this place! They've been in operation since I can remember. Here's the set up: It's drive thru-only at this location and in the summer, they have picnic table dining behind the restaurant. You can grab the perfect summer meal for less than $10 I usually order 2 coneys (because they are too amazing to have just 1!) w/ onions & mustard (no fried food here!) but you can get chips as a side if you need one. I also LOVE that they serve Vernor's which you can mix in a variety of ways with their ice cream. Be aware, that this place is ~SEASONAL~ which adds to their greatness. They close sometime in the fall and reopen in the spring.

This place knows how to make a chili dog! We go back and forth between this place and Rudy's but they are both so good. Nice steamed bun, great hotdog, perfect amount of mustard onions and just the right kind of chili dog chili. Plus at a great price too! I wish they would come down to FL where we live. Ice cream is great as well with crunch coat. I hear they are only open during the summer so call to make sure they are open.

Good old school Detroit style coneys. You may hate them but I love them. I also can't resist a blue raspberry freeze.

I loved the paprika and sour cream sauce. I ordered the roast beef sliders with the horseradish aioli on the side. They were amazing! I wish I could cook roast beef like these sliders. (I learned about the sliders on their website promotions page.) My husband had the Classic Hot dog with macaroni and cheese. He ate every bite! We ordered the Lemon Strudel with ice cream for dessert. I loved the signed buns hanging on the walls. Fun decor! I am glad that I was able to come here for the very first time.

Lauri laughs when I say it smells like Ohio when walking in; woody and old and alive in all its dim lighting and kitsch. tables are nice for groups but it's just us so we sit at the bar and we get a Packo's Feast plus an extra cabbage roll - we're here catching up so 'food' was more of a place for meeting than a reason, but get an extra cabbage just the same. hand rolled seasonal beefs and porks and rice wrapped in cabbages and simmered in a thick tomatoey sauce, plated lightly sauced with hot pickles on the side - man these are good. the hot dogs are more like smoke sausage than weiners and split because that's how it's done; plus onions, kraut, and yellow mustard (just like god intended) under a generous slather of dog sauce plus hot pickles on the side. cup of chili comes with an equal amount of baby oyster crackers in second a bowl. now i shall spend the afternoon musing on a simpler place in time. the last law of thermodynamics states that food is cold at the same temperature where beer is warm. but good food will still be good at room temperature or even out of the fridge (a few items test the hypothesis but don't break it) so sit and talk and listen, the food will still be there and still be good...

The interior is a step back in time to maybe the 70's. Lots of indoor seating. You order at the counter and wait while they prepare it. Service took awhile because they were doing the drive-thru traffic. Once we got our food we waited at the end of the counter to pay, sort of cafeteria style. My all beef King dog was very filling. There were also 5 adults in line, but not all together. None of them were able to order because a small middle aged man, who appeared to be in charge, was screaming at a young man who was also behind the counter. Most of his language consisted of cuss words. The family folks quickly asked that the screaming and cussing be stopped. The young man who was the target of this tirade also asked the supervisor to stop this behavior in front of the children. Within a couple of minutes, those of us in line, rapidly left the building, in fear that we may be soon witnessing a physical fight or worse. On the way out the door, we were asked by those in the drive through what the hold up was. When they were told, they started to leave. Thought that ownership should know what is going on at this store. This situation was totally one sided. No one should have to put up with that kind of treatment.
