So what I'm NOT telling you, is that if you live in Toledo, you can only get a great hamburger if…read moreyou drive up to Ida, MI. What I AM saying, is that if you happen to be passing through Ida, I know a place...
The burgers at Bluestreak Snack Shop are genuinely awesome. Hand-pattied high quality 80/20 beef, cheese, fresh buns and fresh toppings. Put these together for the perfect flavor combo.
The prices might seem high, but they're not. When compared to a similar product from, say, Five Guys, BSS is actually a cheaper. Now, Five Guys makes a good burger, but Bluestreak Snack Shop is just as good...I'd say better.
There are, of course, other things on the menu. I was particularly intrigued by the premade subs (pizza, Italian, ham and cheese). You'll find these in the cooler along with the canned pop. About seven bucks apiece, about 8 inches long. They're assembled with just the roll, the meat, and the cheese, BUT, if ask the workers to dress the sub for you, they'll add the fresh veggies and condiments right there, before you leave.
Of course, this is also an ice cream stand. I haven't tried any ice cream yet, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't taste delicious....the place was full of locals, all eating ice cream.
The atmosphere is what you would expect for a family owned ice cream shop that sells delicious food. There're a few tables inside and several picnic tables in front. Out behind the building, you'll find the Porta Potty?!? Well, it was clean and, relatively, odor free!
The problem with Ida Michigan is that, realistically, it's not "along the way" to anything. To Monroe from Toledo? Nope. From Toledo to Ann Arbor or Dundee? Uh uh. BUT, I have a plan: Start in West Toledo, after stopping at Boyd's Retro Candy Store. Drive north on Lewis, and stop at Pavlov's for a cold one. Keep heading north and stop at Lewis Pizza and Liquor, for a delicious slice. Just one slice, cuz you'll want to save room for a fantastic burger when you get to Ida!
5 stars!
