Fun little hole in the wall in Toledo. Went for the famed hotdogs, and we were not disappointed! The waitress recommended we try the European style hot dog, instead of the American style, and we both really liked it! We had the dogs with chili and had Mac n' cheese and the German potato salad--hot dogs were great; Mac n cheese was solid, nothing to write home about; potato salad was a delight, reminded me of my (German) grandpa's variety. We split the cookies and apple strudel with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Dessert was just meh -- go for lunch/dinner, skip dessert. Signed hot dogs were kitchy. I've always wanted to try Tony Packo's, because of the references in M*A*S*H*, like most people. I loved the ambiance, with the signed buns and rustic feel. It seems to be very much a local favorite, where servers & customers recognize each other. But, the whole place smelled like sauerkraut to me. I got the beef sliders and cucumber salad. The sliders were just ok. I thought they should have a sweeter sauce or something. They tasted kind of odd. I really liked the flavor of the cucumber salad, but the dressing would have been better if it had been thicker. I'm glad I stopped in, but I don't think I need to go back. read more

Kids gave it 5 stars! We came in on a Sunday for a family lunch. We arrived right before noon and the place was already starting to fill up. We had a great server. What an ironic place to visit, Tony Packo's! Almost 100 years old. Their claim to fame isn't just the great Hungarian food, but the signatures on a bun. In 1972, Burt Reynolds stopped by after filming. The restaurant knew who he was so they asked for his signature. He gave his autograph on a bun. Over 1,000 buns have been signed by celebrities, politicians including 7 presidents, and more. Pretty neat to see. I am curious how they are able to preserve those buns. My husband suggested we stop at this iconic hot dog spot on our way home. Glad we did! I was able to try the kraut pierogis and Packo dog. My husband got the Packo feast. This was a lot of food but it was my first time and I wanted to try it all. Hungarians hot dogs are so yummy! I love that this restaurant looks 100 years old. This is a historic diner. I absolutely love the decor inside, so much to take in. You can sit in the bar area and be served or order at the counter and then pick your seat. The original location on Front street is also the very best. Toledo's home to the Hungarian kolbasz sausage. The decor is exceptional. The walls are covered with pictures of the famous and autographed hot dog buns, a tradition that started way back in 1972 by actor Burt Reynolds. Usually, the service is acceptable. We've had one maybe two incidents where the servers weren't very good. All the food here is exceptional. The dumplings are near perfect and the garlic pickles are the very best. Not too spicy, yet addicting. Their chicken paprikas and the stuffed cabbage are also top shelf. You really should try the TP original Hungarian Dog with mustard, onion and chili. They give you a slice of their famous pork sausage on a tasty warmed bun. Cheese is optional, for a charge. I keep meaning to ask if they have a menu option to buy the entire sausage, not just part of one. They were smart enough to open a gift shop in the back. You'll find everything Tony Packo's from tee shirts to pickles to coffee mugs and more. I've got a TP baseball jersey at home. Our family would like to thank Tony Packo's and our wonderful server Amber for a memorable dinner on Friday, June 12, 2025. We returned to our hometown to honor our late father and to dine at the original Tony Packo's, one of his favorite restaurants. As children he took us there to hear the Cake Walkin' Jazz Band and enjoy an authentic Toledo tradition. Although the band was not playing that evening, we nonetheless recaptured the nostalgia of those visits with our dad. Amber's friendly and attentive service made our evening special. My mother, who is Hungarian and an excellent cook of traditional Hungarian dishes, gave her thumbs up. At the end of the meal Amber kindly offered to take a family photo to preserve the memory of the night. Tony Packo's never disappoints and they proved it once again on June 12.
