I didn't expect it to be $20 though! Sheesh. You don't even get fries with it. Nonetheless, my son enjoyed it and that's all that matters to me. I ordered the single dang burger with small fries. The burger was delicious! I always get the special sauce on the side because I'm not sure if I will like it. Well dang! The special sauce here is clearly made in-house and I absolutely loved it!! The fries reminded me of In-n-Out, but better. They aren't too dry and paired well with the sauce. The atmosphere here is really nice! I love the options of outdoor seating and they also have a small area inside. The space is also shared with Sunburst wine bar. Overall, a great place to check out in Carpinteria.

Funk in Public…read more Family-owned and operated local chain of restaurants and butcher shops that's been serving the Santa Barbara community for over fifty years (ca. 1973). This location is in Santa Barbara's "Funk Zone" district, which was formerly an industrial area that's turned into a wine and art district full of interesting places to gander. The Good: * Huge dog-friendly covered outdoor seating * Full lineup of their signature Shalhoob craft beers. They also have fermented grapes and liquor, if beer isn't your jam. * Service was friendly and welcoming. * Street Parking and City-owned lots, as well. The lots are your best bet, and they're free for a short while. * Prices are very reasonable for a BBQ place. * The Street Corn app might be the best thing we ate here as the corn was super fresh right off the cob, and the Chipotle aioli was superb. * BBQ Beans was more of a bean soup, but it was decent. * Mac & Cheese was also pretty good. Carrots enjoyed it more than I did, but I might've been grumpy from the shitty meats (more on that in a minute). The Meh: * Tritip was completely dry and tasted like it was cooked in the oven and then finished on the grill. But, I will say, at least it was edible unlike the ribs... The Ugly: * Maybe the worst ribs I've ever had. They were just completely hammered with salt and completely blew out my palate within two bites, which is a shame because they were tender and cooked well, but jfc, no amount of sauce or anything is going to save something this salty. Conclusion: Maybe we just caught them on a bad day because a place doesn't survive for over fifty years serving up meat like this. I'd be willing to give them another try someday, but I need my tongue to recover first.

Super flavorful, cooked right, and not overcomplicated. Just a solid, satisfying bite every time. The birria burger with the dipping sauce was the standout though. Crispy edges, rich flavor, and that consommé on the side to dunk it in took it to another level. It gets messy but that is kind of the point. Had to add a side of sweet potato fries too. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and the perfect balance to all that burger action. They definitely showed up for Burger Week.

Not mentioning that it was an extra three dollars on top of the $13, if I chose any other side besides fries. Which I thought was a little manipulating on his part. I pulled the manager to the side and mentioned it to him, he cleaned it up and corrected it immediately very polite and forthcoming. Other than that, Service was outstanding, And I tipped accordingly. Now about the food, Burger was medium rare as I asked. A little Dry for the Cook. It would've been much better with the bone marrow butter, but they are asking an extra four dollars for that. Nice brioche, bun, secret sauce, fresh slightly grilled onions, thinly sliced fresh tomato. the only complaint I have is about the lettuce. It was old, and brownish edges in color. Fries were crispy and hot. I was also offered ranch with them when the server brought the meal out, and did not charge extra for that. I was also given a punchcard for the lunch menu with one stamp and at five stamps You get a free item from the lunch menu. Which is a great customer service touch. Restaurant was inside but open air, with a full bar and five big screen TVs playing sports. Will be back to try menu items, The bill was $14 and some change with tax, I tipped five dollars so a good burger and fries for under 20 bucks. Cheers.
