Way back before In-n-Out moved to town, when the Habit was way across town an not accessible by bicycle - way before e-bikes - there was one spot to get the best, juiciest burger in town. In fact they had to put it in a brown paper back so people wouldn't rob you on the way out. You'd get that greasy bag home, or at least down the block, open it up with the steam hitting your face, and go to town on that bad boy and some of the best fries around. After purveying all the burger spots around town - Chubbie's hits all the points in my book. Affordable, hot burgers, and good fries. Their milk shake is also super thick and way better than a McDonald's or In n Out's. Their burgers are better than Habit now too. I only go here now to satisfy my burger craving at a good price :) and stop at in n out if it's really late night since Chubbie's does close early at 8pm. Ask for a side of jalapeños to spice it up! Great value. Great taste. Just great. First time here in years and second time ever. I forgot how good their chicken sandwich is (they call it a chicken burger but it's not on a burger bun, although you can ask for that). Grilled onions are excellent in the chicken burger. I swear it's like stepping into a Time Machine and going back 5 years to when prices were reasonable. With cheese added, my chicken burger was less than $8. This might be the best deal in town. Before tax it was like $6.75. That's unheard of in 2023. Really sounds like a 2018 price to me. Einstein would agree- time travel. That's the only explanation! Ate my burger so fast I didn't take any pictures. It's not the most photogenic food anyways, but oh man, is it delicious! They were not very busy and it was about a 15 minute wait from ordering to receiving my food, but they have a nice moonlit outside patio where I waited. I call it moonlit because there isn't actually any outside lighting. But it's fine. Place was very clean. Will definitely be back to this time traveling gem. read more

Whole in the all burger spots are my thing and I would consider myself pretty picky. Realized SB is more of a sleepy town and places close down around 8 so luckily I looked this place up and got there 20 mins before closing. Ordered 4 cheese burgers with 3 orders of fries and man I messed up. The "chubbie" burger is a double double and I just got the basic a** single but it was legit. I would have ordered the chubbie but they were closing and I didn't want to be "that" customer. Only thing McDonald's has is their fries and this place is pretty damn close to fresh McDonald's fries. Decent burgers for the locals of the area :) I was recommended this place by a friend who said "it's a local favorite." I was also told it was comparable to the habit (or the what my friend said was the original Habit in Goleta, Cal Taco). I ordered a big chubbie burger and a cheese burger. Both were good in their own way. The big chubbie was the size of a double double or a double char burger. No grilled onions though. The cheeseburger had grilled onions and no pickles. I enjoyed them both, but in the end, I probably wouldn't go back. They sent the correct order, but presentation and flavor just seemed to be... acceptable. It takes me back to the hole in the wall joints that you hope would be amazing bc they aren't large chains, but in this case, they make an average burger that tastes good, but definitely not "mind blowing" good. I definitely enjoy venturing out to find a hidden gem in different cities ;) Thanks for the good burger lol. Hopefully the future will provide some idea to make a chubbie burger unique from all the other burgers in town.
