This is a no frills shop but the food is all really good. They have a patio as well as some indoor seating. Everything is clean and a little kitchen. The service is efficient and helpful. There isn't a lot to say but the food is simple, well executed, and all around excellent. The fries and tots are crispy and well seasoned. The fried pickles are incredible -- they mellow out the sourness through the frying process and it's a perfect bite with ranch. The hot dogs are charred and juicy with fresh toppings. The bun is good and they have a lot of sauces to choose from. Their weekly special is a great deal -- about $10 bucks for a specific hot dog with tots or fries and a fountain drink. They have a pretty large menu. I'd like to try their Korean inspired corn dog and their burgers eventually but it's hard to beat a good hot dog. read more

Went in midweek before the students got out, no wait, no line. Went for burger week and got the backyard smash burger, a lot of flavor and it was tasty actually. Since I was there I've always wanted to try the pizza dog, glad I did, hit the spot, very good, did not disappoint. My hot dog was good even if it was overpriced for just a hot dog (over $9 for a plain because I wanted a chicken dog rather than a beef which costs more for some reason). The onion rings were standard fare, nothing to write home about but not bad, either. My companion got the grilled cheese and hated it even though she loves grilled cheese because they use mozzarella cheese! It did not say that on the menu and there was no option to change it to the cheese(s) that 99.9% of restaurants use for grilled cheese which is cheddar and/or American. As a result, it was just tasteless. Imagine globby "pizza cheese" not on crust but on grilled bread with no sauce or toppings. Yuck! Like eating chewy water. Maybe mozzarella cheese is cheaper? No idea why they use it but I wish they would tell people on the menu that that is what they will get. read more

Updating my review! A lot of places hop on trends--like adding vegetarian options--and then quietly drop them later. So I really appreciate that Dave's Dogs has kept a solid lineup of vegetarian choices, and they actually do them right. I ordered the Dave's style dog, they have a kiosk available to order at and it makes the dining in experience much quicker because you can see a visual of the items. The hot dog I got was very heavy in condiments and toppings which I did enjoy. I didn't notice there was bacon on it because it was under all the tomatoes but it was a pretty solid hot dog. read more

Purely picked this place because we were already in the parking lot, and I'm not the biggest fan of hot dogs. That being said, I was not prepared for how DELICIOUS these hot dogs are. Tried their Pulled Pork Mac hot dog, and they do not pull any punches with these hot dogs. This dog was PACKED with mac and cheese and pulled pork with BBQ on top. Cheesy, saucy, and tasty. My friend Chandler told me this was the late-night move, and man... that first time changed the game. Not only was the food fire, but I got to know Dave personally, and he's been solid since day one. Back in the day, the Santa Barbara Dog and El Niño Dog were my go-to. Heavy hitters. That mix of flavor, sauce, and crunch? Just unbeatable for a late-night bite. Fast forward to now, and Dave's got a full-on shop, crazy menu, full setup, and the food is still just as good, if not better. This time I kept it classic with the sauerkraut dog and chili cheese dog, and bro... come on. They still hit like day one. Sauerkraut had that perfect tang, chili was meaty and rich without being messy, and the buns were soft and toasted just right. I also had the patty melt, and that thing was absolutely bonkers. Like, gone in four bites type of good. Cheese melted right, onions grilled up perfectly, the whole thing was just balanced and rich. Easily one of the best items on the menu. Tried the burger too and yeah... amazing. Simple, juicy, full of flavor. No fluff. And of course, the tater tots and fries are must-haves. Crispy, hot, and seasoned right. Great sides to round it out. Also gotta shout out the horchata. I'm pretty sure it's house-made and you can taste it. Creamy, sweet but not too sweet, and refreshing enough to cool down from all the savory heat. It's honestly crazy to see the growth. From a cart on the street to a full-blown Santa Barbara staple. But knowing Dave and the way he works, it makes sense. He earned all of it. This is a local business worth supporting, not just because the food's amazing, but because the heart behind it is real. Tucked away in the corner of the shopping center beside a few other businesses and a Vons is Dave's Dogs Grill. This place had been on my radar for some time but never had the time to make it inside. Finally had some time, and I'm very glad I did. This place makes some awesome food, has a friendly staff, and a nice, calming little patio attached to the side. The food carries a simplicity in its design but delivers far above expectations. In other words, it actually looks like the picture included on the menu/website when it arrives to your table. Forget Dave's hot chicken, DAVE'S DOGS is the place to be! I give him 10 stars all the way around! Dave himself is personally there at the register taking orders and he was very kind in telling me about the menu (my first time here from LA), all of the staff was sweet. I ended up getting the #3 Santa Barbara Dog, #15 Pulled Pork Mac and tator tots. AMAZING! I've never had anything like this. The Santa Barbara Dog was probably my favorite, the other was good too, and the tator tots were cooked to perfection! Just the right amount of crunchiness and the spicy mayo dip was tasty! The vibe was chill too, the reggae music was a nice touch, and the place was clean. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area, and hopefully Dave will expand to LA one day soon. Iconic Dogs. We ordered the Pulled Pork Mac Dog, Mac N' Cheese Dog, Hawaiian Dog, Pizza Dog, Kraut Dog, Santa Barbara Style, and Sweet Potato Tots. The first bite was amazing. There were so many flavors entering my mouth. I was kind of confused, but in a good way. However, after eating half of my hot dog, my stomach was very full. I tried the Kraut Dog on a Hot Link sausage and Pulled Pork Mac N' Cheese on a Beef sausage. The kraut dog was good but it was very kraut-y. So if you're not a fan of sauerkraut, don't order it. The Pulled Pork Mac N' Cheese was so delicious. The hot link sausage was better. It was overall a very heavy meal but I'm really happy to have experienced Dave's Dogs. I don't recommend eating this everyday but if you're feeling a hot dog, go to Dave's. read more
