Home Plate Grill isn't the best food you'll ever have, but it gets the job done. The menu is solid, the prices are fair, and it's consistent. What really makes it worth going to, though, is the convenience and the service. The staff is always friendly and on top of things, which goes a long way. It's also right next to their sister sports bar, Rounding Third, which makes it an easy spot to grab food before or after a drink. The whole setup just works. Coming through town on our way back to LA and had to stop here again for breakfast. This time we tried: *Sourdough Sammy - delicious except that the middle layer of bread was burnt beyond recognition, which imparted a very bitter taste. Removed it and the rest was great. We did point this out to our server, though. Cook needs to know he didn't "hide" that burnt toast, lol. *Blueberry Pancakes - slim stack and OMG, sooooo good! Fluffy, perfect flavor and the blueberry sauce was delicious. *Tater Tots (side) - I mean, they're tots. Hard to ruin tots. Just wish they'd been served piping hot instead of tepid. *Avocado Toast (side) - on sourdough. Nothing but the bread a **very** thin schmear of mashed avocado. I've lived in Goleta for many years and finally tried this place out! My partner and I were craving comfort food, and that is what their menu is filled with! We ordered onion rings, fried green beans, the sampler platter, the Connie sandwich, and the pastrami reuben. The onion rings and fried green beans were super crispy and went great with the sandwiches. The sample platter was really satisfying. I enjoyed the wings, while my partner enjoyed the sliders. I thought the reuben was a little on the dry side, but it was still pretty satisfying. The interior has a cozy mom and pop-owned vibe to it. Our server was very nice attentive. Thought we would try this place on our way back home after flying into the Santa Barbara airport. Their reviews were good and the food did not disappoint. It's in a tiny strip mall off of the 101 but had a very nice outdoor dining area which we took advantage of. I ordered their Trainwreck Breakfast burrito with decaf coffee while my husband opted for the Grand Slam breakfast. The breakfast burrito was excellent! It was also huge and I ended up taking some of it home. The coffee is your standard fare brewed coffee. My husband's grand slam, with scrambled eggs, was also excellent. The bacon & sausage were prepared perfectly and the pancakes were delicious. Even though we were outdoors, it was a very quiet spot. They do have indoor dining, if that's what you prefer. 'm usually the type of person who always finds something to critique when I go out, whether it's the food, service, or parking. Drives my friends and husband nuts! But honestly, I can't complain about a single thing here. The food was absolutely excellent, delicious, plentiful, and reasonably priced. A few days ago, I went to Home Plate Grill as I read pretty good reviews for tri tip sandwiches. The one I got was AWFUL. The meat was overdone and gristly, so that I couldn't eat part of it. I tried the other half of the sandwich and after one test bite, threw away the whole thing. Home Plate Grill folks, your meat quality is horrendous! Your restaurant is my "neighborhood restaurant", and I want to support you, but I basically threw away $25 (leaving a big tip to thank the young woman who served me). The tater tots were good (but a little too oily for my taste), and the cafe itself was nice, but the main reason for even stopping by, the tri tip sandwich, was a total waste of my money. I'd like to try it again, but sure don't want overcooked, gristly, dry meat that I end up tossing in the trash. read more

Service is great - fast, friendly, and when there was construction outside, they graciously let us move indoors. Came here with the boys looking for a new brekkie spot. I think we found it? I had the Cali Real Wrap with chorizo, and friends had the Chicken Tater scramble, Carnivore omelette, and the 805 omelette. Was visiting my son at UCSB and was looking for a good place that looks like locals go to. What a gem. We had a great lunch. Wagyu cheeseburger was awesome. Tri tip sandwich also great. I no longer live in SB so rarely go but even years later this local spot is still one of my favorites in town! The owner is great, the food is very tasty and the menu is massive with full breakfast options now too. Everything still tastes the same which is hard to say during these crazy times.. I will admit a few certain things are maybe overpriced slightly or the portions are a bit small, but in general most of the menu is fairly priced and I'll still support any local restaurants I can. read more

Google helped me find this local spot. I actually wasn't sure where the map was directing me until I arrived. As a DP alumni, I'm very familiar with the 7-Eleven! I arrived around 10 am. on a Tuesday. I had the Goodland scramble. I recommend you add a few drops of hot sauce. I used the one called gringo something. Man, was it good. The flavor combo just works. Tri tip was diced in just the right size, and the eggs were cooked soft and fluffy. So good my mouth is watering just thinking of this dish. I also got some blueberry pancakes to go. The syrup was a big surprise. It has a real jammy flavor. I can't really explain it properly. All i can say is if you're a blueberry fan, you will love the syrup. Taste a bit like a blueberry pie and fresh blueberries mixed. You just have to try it for yourself. Definitely recommend you try this spot. The menu is creative, and the food was fresh and delicious. We sat outside and the patio is dog friendly with several umbrellas which was a huge plus. Our breakfast was good however the hash browns were a little undercooked and not too flavorful. They also serve up some amazing Mexican breakfast dishes like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. Yes, it's a no thrills kinda place, but it is truly for the locals given it is surrounded by neighborhoods. I'm a fan of customizing dishes and here they allow it. From their scrambles to omelets, you get what you want. My partner loves it specifically because they have three different salsas, and the orange one is the spiciest he can find in town! Bottom Line: A great spot to bring the fam for dinner! How have I never been to this place before?! This is crazy. A few weeks ago, wife said that she wanted to go somewhere for dinner where the kids would actually eat something. As our children are wildly unpredictable, you really have no idea what they are going to eat that day. We headed over and immediately recognized an entire table of people that we knew! It's always a good sign when you run into people you know at a spot- so we ordered. I got the the Reuben, the kids ordered from the kids menu and the wife got a burger. This was my 2nd time trying Home Plate Grill this is a great quiet location. My friends and I went midday and were able to get seated quickly. The restaurant was quiet and there was plenty of seating inside and outside on the patio. The server was very nice and we got our food within 20 minutes. Food was delicious and we had great portion sizes for the price. Home Plate has a large menu and we can't wait to try more of their food. For 3 adults then I'll was under $50. + Classic small town town diner ambiance, friendly staff, great prices. - Not very clean, underwhelming taste (at least for breakfast menu). I really wanted to love this place, and do think I may have just ordered the wrong menu item. The overall vibe was very friendly and I was immediately imagining becoming a regular at this Goleta diner. The prices on the menu were even more exciting, as everything was very cheap compared to prices at other Goleta/SB locations serving breakfast. However, I ultimately left the diner feeling a little disappointed. First, the cleanliness. We were told that we could sit anywhere, but the seat I chose had large pieces of food all over it as if it has not been wiped down in a while. No biggie, it's a diner, so I used some napkins to clean it off and sat down anyways. Once I sat down, I noticed that the jug of mysterious liquid next to the soda machine looked really dirty as if the pitcher has not been cleaned in a while. That was definitely was not appealing, but again, hey it's a diner so as long as the food is good, right? For the food though, we had a mixed experience. My partner's fajitas were delicious especially for the price. My chicken fried pork chop, however, had a lot of bones in it and most importantly, the gravy tasted like flour and was not very flavorful. The hash brown was average, the mimosa was great. Overall, the price makes the place a good enough value that I will probably try this place again next time, but I definitely will be ordering something different. read more

This breakfast spot is a HOME RUN. We were looking for an easy spot for a meal on the road and boy am I glad we did. I can honestly say it has been years since I have been excited my breakfast food- usually it's too bland, too boring, too sweet. I ate my entire plate of Goodland Scramble and shocked the table. This food is comforting, well seasoned, and the meat is cooked excellently. My scramble was flavorful in each bite but not spicy, and the tritip pieces were tender and well incorporated. Across the table one of us ordered a chili verde that was melt-in-your mouth and very generously portioned. An excellent iced coffee topped it all off, and it was all served in a homey casual atmosphere with open galley kitchen- a classic local vibe. I can't imagine why every table wasn't packed given the great prices, food, and easy access pace. Take it from someone who isn't impressed by the usual breakfast scene- ditch that trendy brunch spot and come here instead! We'll be back!
