Chicken burger was OK at best. Hamburger - I definitely wouldn't order again / recommend. Incredibly expensive! And even if you are the only customer, 15 minutes wait for a simple order. Worst of all, though - none of the staff (cook, server) wearing masks. I try not to judge too harshly when it comes to mom and pop places in tiny towns around here, and this was the case here. Tiny place in the middle of Darrington (er, where?) it catered to the townsfolk and the passing motorcyclists. The place had almost as many flying insect guests as it did customers on the day I checked it out. Most people who did show up, were ordering ice cream, or milkshakes which I heard were fabulous. I had a salmon burger on a lettuce wrap which was meh, good for what it was. My family had a selection of fried yumminess that was just okay. The shakes were great, they all let me have a sip and each was delicious. Service was not so good, they were busy and scattered. Everyone was sweet and friendly but they didn't listen to our order and brought out the wrong thing two times. We were both super hungry after a long hike in Marblemount, so we decided to yelp up a burger joint on the way home. Burger Barn came up with good reviews! We thought, 'hey, this is going to be awesome!' We pulled up and it was a little hole-in-the-wall place. No biggie! We love those places. We looked at the menu and ordered 2 burgers. We went to sit down at one of the tables and there was a dead bee on it. Ok, I'll let that one slide.... but then we look at the floor and there was a humongous spider on the floor, almost ready to crawl up my boyfriends leg! And then the topper was....the couple that ordered their food a good 10 mins after us still got their food before us, even though I saw our orders were already finished and sitting on their counter. Ate the food in the car. Bleh. Ordered the Swiss mushroom. On the menu, it said mayo, lettuce and tomato. Not sure how pickles made it on my burger. I hate pickles! A family member mentioned a burger joint in Darrington and I decided I needed to pop in. My husband, daughter, doggy and I stopped by on a Sunday during lunch. There was a good amount of people there, some inside in w/the AC and some outside on the shaded picnic tables. We ordered inside and went out to the picnic tables, where they bring your food out to you. Food - I got the regular burger and a large fries. My husband got the deluxe burger w/cheese and a chocolate milkshake. My daughter drank water with ice, haha - btw it was amazing. My burger had pickles and a special sauce on it, which was delicious. I don't know if the meat was a frozen patty, but it was good. I added ketchup for some zing and wolfed it down. Curly fries were also amazing. The large was wayyyy too much, but if you're sharing with a few people it is a good size. Milkshake was really good, especially in the 90+ degree weather. Service - Great! Everyone was really nice. Despite it being hopping, food came out quick. Someone must've been cranking out the milkshakes because they came out really quick and I saw other tables getting theirs pretty quick as well. Despite it being a small, busy establishment, it was clean and tidy. Bathroom inside was also clean. Tables and surrounding area was well kept and there were water bowls for dogs at some of the tables. This was my first time in the area, on the way home from camping near Concrete. Being vegetarian I was thankful for one option but the veggie patty didn't taste that amazing. Pretty bland. Hmm maybe caught it on a bad day. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fish and chips, both with fries. The burger was a bit better than you'd expect from a small spot like this but the fries were way undercooked, soggy, soft, and pure white. Burger Barn came highly recommended by some fellow hikers and since Darrington doesn't have many options we decided to stop in and check it out. The first thing you notice is how small of a diner this is. It's tiny, and I mean only four tables in the room kind of tiny. There was clearly no budgeting for decor or comfortability. There are flies buzzing around all over the inside and a cluttered soda fountain area. One thing Burger Barn unexpectedly had was a large menu. They have quite a number of offerings for being a two-person operation. Our family tried a couple of burgers, chicken strips, a salmon burger with no bun, curly fries, onion rings, and three shakes. The burgers were nothing that I would rave about and I was expecting WAY better. The patties were well seasoned but the buns were soggier than I would have liked. The chicken was fine, just your typical fried food. The shakes were quite good although a little expensive. And that brings me to price. Burgers do not come with fries and shakes are one size only (smallish) for about $4.50. Our meal for four came to $50 and that was only with one small side of onion rings and a side of curly fries to share. The curly fries do come in a large portion so they will satisfy a couple of individuals. Lastly, the employees were nice and smiled but didn't listen very well. I ordered popcorn chicken and got popcorn shrimp. They graciously offered to replace it and then brought me chicken strips instead of popcorn chicken. A little attention to detail goes a long way and the food quality didn't make up for the double mistake on our order. All told, I wouldn't visit this place again. It's all about the food at a place like this, and the food we had was superb. Can't explain the negative Nellies that didn't agree - maybe we just scored the alpha cook, I don't know - point is, we had burgers here that I was thinking about for the next 3 days. Starting with the burger meat itself - delicious, wonderful, beefy, and cooked just right. Add fresh toppings - I mean it, they seemed like they'd been picked off a nearby farm that day - and a fresh bun, an order of hot fresh fries, and a handmade shake and you have yourself a top shelf meal. Yes the interior seating is limited, but the outdoor picnic tables are lovely in sunshine and workable in anything but rainy weather, and the owners bring the food to you, so nothing to complain about. If you're a wuss from one of those mythical "300+ days of sunshine" towns you may find it off-putting, but for rain-resistant Northwesterners it should not be a problem except in monsoon times. The price was also right. Small town burgers in a small town restaurant, no big chain/franchise bit to dumb it down - you will probably love it or hate it. I loved it. I couldn't tell whether the stale-ness of the fries was customary or on account of having to stand there for 30 minutes after it was made, because they forgot to tell us our food was done. We chocked the long wait time up to up to them needing to slaughter a fresh calf in the back of the barn, but soon found the beef's freshness to be a muted shade of freezer burn. Id say I was afraid of catching Covid from this meal, but research shows the virus only thrives on hot surfaces. Their milkshakes will no longer bring this boy to their yard. read more

We popped in today and ordered fish burgers and fries - not my usual first choice when visiting a burger joint, but we were feeling adventurous. Have to say, the simplicity of the fish burgers was perfect - crispy battered cod fillets, generous pickle slices - at least 5 - tartar sauce and fresh, crispy lettuce. We both agreed it was the best fish burger we'd ever had - not because it was "fancy", but because it was just perfectly cooked and presented. The medium fries were huge - more than enough for two people, and also delicious. Two very happy thumbs up!!! As we left, we ordered two ice cream cones to go - only $1 each for two scoops each! Sweet! The place is small, granted, but no complaints from us whatsoever. Yes, there was duct tape holding the padded booth seat together, but we weren't there for the ambiance. I like hole-in-walls like this one because many of them economize on amenities to provide extra value on food and/or drink. That's why I dropped in. I even Yelped the place after ordering. Sadly, this place is just an opportunistic rip-off, likely owned end by a cash-poor country bumpkin interested in maximizing margin for short-term gain. Maybe, for health reasons, there is no long term for that owner. Suffice to say, my burger and shake were small, expensive and unremarkable. I left this place as a victim of my own prejudices; namely, that hole-in-walls can be real gems. This is a 2.5 stars, but I'm applying a small town voucher to round up to 3... I was overseeing a residential construction job site in Darrington for a couple of days, and was exploring food options in the small town. There are only about four or five restaurants total.... and apparently there is some family connection between the people who run the Burger Barn and the Hawk's Nest, which is the most popular restaurant in Darrington....I had heard numerous locals mention Burger Barn as a nice restaurant for lunch, so I was excited to give them a try. First thing I noticed was how outdated the booths, tables, and appliances were. Then again the entire town is outdated so what can you expect? The only nice aspect of their building was the exterior made of timber, since 90% of the town's employment is within the logging/arborist industry. I ordered the salmon burger with fries. I asked how they made the salmon, and the owner told me the paddies are bought frozen from Costco. She followed by mentioning that she makes a really great sauce that is popular with the food they serve at the Hawk's Nest. I really didn't mind that the burger is store bought, I appreciated her honesty. The sandwich was 9 bucks, and the fries were another 3. After tax was $14 and I handed her $20 and told her to keep the change. I always try to support local small town businesses...You would think with a 50% tip they'd hook you up with some extra fries.....I got the equivalent of a small order of fries from McDonalds with my burger...You know the little paper sleeve of fries that comes in your child's happy meal? Yeah that one. The sandwich itself was roughly the size of a big mac, which contrary to it's name, isn't big at all. The fish was dry and carried a hint of fishy odor and freezer burn. As a man, I innately try to keep from putting anything that is both dry and fishy smelling in my mouth...but it was already too late. I gave her $20 and I hate to waste food. At least she didn't lie to me, the best part of my meal was definitely the sauce. Two stars for offering a fish sandwich for under 10 bucks...and another half a star for great friendly service. Where I live you couldn't dream of getting a salmon burger for less than $15 anywhere. I'm accustom to a steep price point, but I'm also conditioned to quality food. My husband and I took a drive out to Darrington. The Burger Barn was the only restaurant we could find, in town. This place is tiny, has 3 booths and a little bit of outside seating (maybe a picnic table). They leave the front door open and I did see flies coming inside. The service could have been a bit faster, considering they categorize themselves as "fast food". We waited, approx 20 minutes, for 2 burgers, fries, onion rings, and a malt. That being said, the food was great, considering what we ordered. If you don't mind lower scale establishments, I'd recommend this place for a pretty decent burger.
