We took a stroll down Little Italy and stumbled upon a cute little place to eat. We were greeted at the door by a kind gentleman and quickly shown to our table. The inside reminded me of my grandma's kitchen, which brought back so many memories--it had such a warm, cozy feel. The food was good, and the sesame bread was especially a highlight--warm, fresh, and so delightful. Our server seemed like he might've had somewhere else to be, but I'm hoping he was just having an off day. I will add that they charge a credit card fee and automatically include a 20% gratuity regardless of party size. I stopped into Buona Notte with a friend looking for a place to have some dessert and coffee. We ordered three desserts to share--tiramisu, cheesecake, and crème brulie--but unfortunately none of them stood out. They were just okay and on the smaller side. Stopped by to check out the outdoor patio and the vibes but stayed for a meal. Waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I got the spaghetti Al ragu which was very saucy and flavorful. I would've liked for the ratio of pasta to sauce to be a bit more balanced as I was left with so much sauce afterwards. Such an elegant meal! I've walked past Buona Notte on Mulberry St. in NYC's Little Italy several times before finally stopping in for dinner. The name translates as, "Good Night." What could be better?! . The dark blue awning and large front windows are so cute and inviting. The inside of the restaurant was filled with mirrors--and sparkly decorations-- in advance of Valentine's Days. There was also a nice selection of music playing. Mostly pop tunes. I was immediately welcomed by staff. They were so nice. The menu offers many pizza, pasta and entree options. It's not a massive menu, but there's plenty to choose from. I picked Chicken Marsala. It was great. Pasta normally comes with the entree, but I mentioned that I'm diabetic. The server, Gabby, was wonderful. I asked if I could have cooked vegetables instead. Some restaurants hate substitutions, but Gabby was happy to help. I'm a decent cook. I can actually make the items I ordered, but my compliments to the chef who did a fantastic job with the meal. I walked in at 5:30pm. That turned out to be happy hour. The cocktails are normally $18, but they ran a special on Elderflower Spritzers which were $10 during happy hour. Wow. My drink special was delicious. After spending the day with family, I dined alone. The nice thing about Buona Notte is that the staff and decor made me feel so comfortable. As I prepared to leave, I texted a photo of my dinner to some relatives. They were so impressed. I'm pretty sure the next time I come back, I won't be alone. After dinner in Chinatown, our quartet went for dessert. The friendly staff seated us in the back by the tree and the fireplace screen, which gave it a festive atmosphere. When you first wander into Little Italy with the intent of having dinner, you'll find yourself getting stopped at every menu and be confronted by a sales pitch to enter their establishment. Not at Buona Notte. We actually thought it looked quite might and it didn't look too busy, so we asked if we could take a look. We liked what we saw, but decided to walk up and down the street to see if we found any other place that looked nice. We walked all the way to the end and the aggressive greeters at each restaurant was quite tiresome, but fun to see what they would say and how they sell their restaurants. In the end, of course, we chose Buona Notte because we were greeted so nicely and treated well even after walking away. We were seated on the outdoor patio area in the back of the restaurant. Away from the street and the busy sidewalks of Little Italy. It felt so much more relaxed under their display of umbrellas overhead. Our waiter was awesome. My group of 3 had reservations for 7 pm on a Tuesday night at Buona Notte! We arrived half an hour early and they granted our request to sit in the back room which was empty the entire time we were dining. The umbrella part of the restaurant seen in pictures is sadly closed during the cold. For drinks, we ordered the caffetini and two venetians, all of which were quite strong, especially the caffetini. In fact, the caffetini was arguably so strong that I thought it was not enjoyable. However, the venetian was tasty with notes of peach and grapefruit hiding the taste of vodka. The food sadly took ~40 minutes to come out, which was definitely longer than I would have liked. However, we did have bread and olive oil to entertain us! We ordered the eggplant parmigiana, spicy vodka tortellini, and rigatoni alla carbonara. The portion sizes were smaller than we anticipated, but they actually turned out to be perfect and we were full at the end of our meal! The eggplant parm was great and the tortellini had a nice kick to it and was especially tasty with the bread. I thought my rigatoni was a bit bland especially if not eaten with the meat, and I also expected the egg yolk to be sitting on top instead of incorporated in a sauce. I definitely needed a relaxing girls' night out and that's exactly what I got when I came to Buona Notte. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and a Margarita pizza on gluten-free crust. This is the first time I've eaten pizza in nine years. I didn't realize how much I missed pizza and melted mozzarella cheese. The pizza was amazing. I also tried the kale caesar salad, which I shared with my sister but she ate the croutons. I loved the food, and we were able to stay at our table until closing at 11:00. There were only two appetizers that fit the budget of the coupon: the bread with cheese or the bread with tomato's essentially. When we asked if we can get a different appetizer and just pay the different our of pocket they said we had to get an appetizer that fit the budget of the coupon and then we can order another appetizer on top of that, which was disappointing. When you look up the choices of wines, the bottles are anywhere from $5-15 elsewhere, so the value of the menu isn't accurate. The food was pretty average. The service was good. The place was small and cute. If I go back, I definitely will not be using a coupon and will just be getting 2 entres instead. The black ravioli was good but nothing special. The veal wasn't very good and it was too oily in my opinion, given that I've never tried veal before, it was nice to try, but I don't think I'll be ordering that again. We ate here for dinner one evening and I chose the carbonara. The result was amazing and definitely authentic. The worst experiences are when places add cream or substitute bacon in the place of the guanciale or panchetta. But not here, as Buona Notte had some of the best carbonara that I've had in the city so far. The only reason I'd dock them one star (because the food was AMAZING) is because the service wasn't the best. We had to ask multiple times for our waiter to bring our check and instead just handed him the card. When he brought the paid check, he had added a 20% tip (plus CC fee). We always tip 20% regardless but it seemed a bit deceptive. If we hadn't checked the receipt closely, most people would have added in another tip (especially tourists) without noticing it had already been added in. read more

I chose this place on a cold night from other bright and cool Italian restaurants in little Italy. Buona Notte maintains a unique and dedicated service to displaying Italian heritage! I've visited for lunch and dinner with girlfriends and the food is always so yummy and mouth melting. The portions are generous and there really isn't anything on the menu I haven't liked to date, as I've taken bites out of all of my friends dishes! The ambiance is intimate and romantic! They have a really nice backyard for outdoor tables and it was so relaxing. I felt like they were short of staffs so you might need to be patient while ordering. Pretty good-ish considering the myriad of Italian restaurants along Mulberry Street. I do not believe I dined here in the past but had the opportunity to try it last night amidst the San Gennaro Festival. Without mentioning the other restaurants' names, there are only 2 very good and authentic Italian restaurants in Little Italy (also confirmed by a Buona Notte employee) and this isn't one of them, but my friend and I ended up enjoying our dinner and time spent here. Since the San Gennaro Feast was in full swing, there were 3 seating options: sidewalk, indoor or backyard patio. We sat on the sidewalk but not on the actual sectioned off street area. Our table was more quiet and right in front of the restaurant entrance. It was perfect and enabled us to eat and people watch at the same time. We were well taken care of by the manager and started things off with their house Rose which was very good and served in the largest wine glass I've ever held in my hand. We just had to order the Fried Calamari which was actually quite good. A bowl full of the ringlet squid served with lemon wedges and a Marinara sauce that had a spicy kick to it due to the crushed red pepper sprinkled on top. It also wasn't oily like others I've eaten elsewhere. For mains, pasta was the way to go for us. I settled on a Capellini Primavera while my friend chose the Penne Arrabiata. I really liked my pasta- loaded with a variety of veggies and then doused with lots of grated cheese. My friend enjoyed her pasta as well. We ended with the Tiramisu which was very delicious. I ate the entire portion. We enjoyed everything from start to finish at Buona Notte and being immersed in the festivities added to the overall charm.
