I'm happy that I did, because Bunsik 88 is an amazing gem located right in the heart of Rowland Heights. It has only been open for about a year, and I'm looking forward to seeing Jason, the owner, expand his storefront to other locations. I talked with him while I ate, and I learned that he cares a great deal about providing premium ingredients to ensure the best taste for his customers. He makes all of the food that day, so everything is fresh. Now on to the food: the kimbap is filling and tasty, and I like the options for different fillings. The sausage and rice cake skewer was the perfect balance of savory and sweet, which left me wanting more. I ended up getting some coin cakes: cheese and red bean. I watched Jason make it right in front of me, and ate it right when it was still piping hot. That coin cake was delicious - perfectly chewy and not too sweet. Either way, I already reported it to the Environmental Health Line--they can take it from there. If I find your receipt later, I'll let you guys know the exact date and time right before this incident occurred and we an subpoena video footages if necessary. If you try to file a lawsuit, you're not going to win. In either case, the food should have tasted fresh, not laced with sour spit. And yes, plenty of restaurants around this area spit in their food. It's a nasty, common, occurrence around these parts. If you truly want to do better for your "restaurant business", then maybe you should stop and/or not. Breaking sanitation rules is also a serious endeavor, and I'm sure the Environmental Health line agency will look into things if you guys keep up the occurrence and habit. If anything, it's irresponsible restaurant owners like you that give your own business and owner a bad name for yourselves. You have no one to blame but yourself/yourselves. This tiny to go spot has changed businesses and hands so many times, it's been a mochi donut place, reskinned twice and several other businesses too. Very hard to compete, especially since it's not the easiest to get parking and getting into this plaza. With that in mind, Bunsik 88 has always been on my recommended list, but I only had the chance to try out their food recently. We got our order to go, and by the time we got back home, everything was still decently warm and not too soggy for the fried foods. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Sausage and Rice Cake Skewer: -It's Korean mini sausages and rice cakes on a skewer, glazed with a sweet spicy sauce. -I know it's a simple dish, but it was my favorite from the order. -A bit more sweet than savory but went really well with the saltiness from the sausage and I always love the chewiness of rice cake. 2) Fried Sweet Potato: -Crispy sweet potato tempura, lightly sweet. -Not bad and not too oily or soggy either. Slight crisp chew from the sweet potato, light breaded fried layer. 3) 88 Seaweed Rolls: -Glass noodle stuffed seaweed rolls, battered and fried. -This is my dad's favorite. It's a staple of Korean street snack foods. -Love the crispiness of the fried battered seaweed and the glass noodles with some sesame oil to taste, went perfect with it. 4) Tuna Kimbap & Bulgogi Beef Kimbap: -Both are made with veggies and seasoned rice. Fillings include tankuan (pickled radish), eggs, and veggies (carrots, greens). -It's a sizeable kimbap serving and more than enough to feed several people. Protein was a decent portion of the kimbap too. -I think my only issue was that both were way too "sweet" in flavor for my taste. I know they use sesame oil and I like that slight savory, roasted flavor, but this style of kimbap wasn't really what I prefer. Most of my family was just okay with this too. 5) Korean Corn Bread (Custard and Mozzarella): -My friends and I have accidentally had a frozen version of this before, and it wasn't microwaved or heated up, so I was excited to try this how it's ACTUALLY meant to. -The size of the coin bread is quite big. Around the size of my yaoi hands. -However, other than that the bread was just okay. I think if you put filling into a "bread", taiyaki or manjoo is a better fit. The "bread" part got soggy pretty quickly and isn't as fulfilling and yummy as a sweet (slightly savory with the cheese) treat as the other pastries I mentioned. Service was efficient and there were no other orders there or customers waiting in line. It's a relaxed and cute spot, but seating is extremely limited due to the size of the place. Like 2 stool seats and a tiny counter, so it's definitely a to go place unless you're dining with only you and at maximum another person. Honestly, maybe what I ordered wasn't the best, but since I can just swing over to Diamond Bar, I think this was just okay. read more

I ordered the bulgogi kimbap, and it honestly tasted pretty bland. The bulgogi itself had some flavor and a slight sweetness, but the rest of the vegetables lacked seasoning. Each bite felt unbalanced--you'd either get a strong bulgogi flavor or a completely bland mix of vegetables. I also noticed they used chives, which I've never seen in kimbap before. It does have the look and feel of a chain (not sure if it actually is), and the kimbap pieces are noticeably larger than the typical market-style ones. Flavor-wise, everything was well-balanced and complemented each other nicely. The bites were a bit big for me, but still very appetizing and well-seasoned. I ordered two rolls without realizing how large they'd be, so I ended up with leftovers--next time I'd probably just go with one. The tuna was great, and the mayo didn't overpower it. There's a nice contrast of textures throughout. The spicy bulgogi sauce was a little different from the usual Korean-style--more peppery and slightly fusion-leaning--but still really solid overall. Since finding this place I've gone back more than I probably should. I've tried the shrimp tempura kimbap, the bulgogi kimbap, the galbi cupbap, and the spicy tteokbokki. Everything has been delicious and decent portion sizes. Every single person I've encountered has been very personable and great customer service. The place is small so best for to go orders but I never mind taking my food to the park to eat outside. I highly recommend and will be grabbing dinner from there again tonight. read more

All the ingredients were very fresh, the bulgogi had that signature sweet, beefy flavor, but together as a whole didn't taste like much. Was in the area and found this cute Korean snack good place so gave it a try. We arrived right around opening so there was no line to order. The store is very small inside as it is mostly meant for take out and not dining in. However, they do have a small bar seating with two seats if you want to eat there. We ordered the Popcorn Chicken Cupbap regular size (10.95) with the sweet & spicy sauce and two rolls of the Bulgogi kimbap (17.50). We opted to sit at the cute bar and waited for the food. The food was ready pretty quick and looked delicious. The cupbap meat portion was a bit less than I expected since the popcorn chicken pieces are small but it tasted very good. The sweet and spicy sauce was a bit spicier than expected but tasted very good with the popcorn chicken. As for the kimbap, the rolls are very generously rolled that are nice and fat of the ingredients. However, the bulgogi was a bit dry. They did give this sauce for the kimbap and it tasted very good when you eat it together. Also, they provided kimchi with your order. This could be a filling meal. Just like its shown on Kdramas, Gimbap is a pretty popular snack that 15 years ago, I would've not thought it to become so global, yet here we are. The quality of ingredients used for these are bar none one of the best. Seriously. The flavor is there, the size is there. They even have a machine to cut the rolls even. The only downsize is that the place is literally a to-go little establishment. U cant sit here, and enjoy ur meal w friends for example. My 6-year old loves this place which says a lot because he is a picky eater. He doesn't really like pizza, but he loves this place. A mom of another kid from a class this kid and my kid have together brought an extra spam Kimbap to the clsss and offered it to us. I took a slice of it and had to have another immediately. I really had to practice self control so that my kid could try it. He, at first, was reluctant, but after trying it, he ate the rest of it, then said, "I wish I could have this for lunch at school everyday." I ordered a bulgogi cupbap, a spicy pork cupbap, and an order of their fried shrimp all for pickup. With the coupons and discounts, it was a good deal. My food was waiting for me as I arrived. The cupbaps were enough for me to share with my wife and daughter. It tasted much better than the Cupbap restaurant. The meats in the cupbaps were marinated well they were generous in their portions. It is a soft opening so I'm sure there will be some employee training but my experience went without a hitch and pleasant. Again the kimbap is bomb and perfect. Flavorful balanced and not too much rice as kimbap should be. I haven't tried their coin bread yet but apparently it's popular in Korea rn and is like boonguhbbang or taiyaki. Very authentic flavors with fresh and quality ingredients makes Bunsik 88 a must try. Highly recommend the Galbi Cupbap and go for the King size, it's that good. It's served Galbi-chim style and the sauce is amazing. Poured over rice I could eat just that alone. The Seaweed Roll (noodle center) was surprisingly one of the best items too. Simple yet so yummy. Kimbap's are all generous in size, definitely go for the double roll they go quick! Service was quick and fresh, but call ahead for larger orders. Best for take out. came on a Saturday evening (7:50pm). we ordered the sotteok sotteok, bulgogi cupbap, and mozzarella won bread. the male owner was incredibly friendly. he told us it was take about 10 mins so we went next door to walk around and we picked up our order in 15 mins. sotteok sotteok - so good! the rice cake was crispy on the outside and the sausage made a good combo. the sauce wasn't too spicy or sweet, but balanced each other out! won bread - very FRESH & HOT. the outside is crispy and gives you a nice cheese pull! will try different fillings next time like red bean bulgogi cupbap - good portion size. the bulgogi meat isn't too sweet and it's delicious. it comes in the to-go container already so perfect to take home as well! come here early if you want the kalbi because they marinate the meat the day before and it's grilled-to-order. it's amazing how much quality they put in serving their customers. will definitely be back!!! i really want to make note that the owner is super sweet and kind. he told us he opened a month ago and sometimes he can get busy with online orders but still put care into the food quality. a lot of their food is made in-house and made-to-order which is so healthy and fresh. i love supporting small businesses! read more
