I got the Oreo smash and the staff was nice enough to let me get a fresh chimney cake so it was warm out of the oven. In the bottom of the chimney cake, they put two marshmallows to keep the ice cream as it melts from breaking down the paper cone that it sits in which add a nice little sweet addition to the overall dessert. Every time I walk past this place, I always wondered what it was. For the longest I thought they specialized in cupcakes. But yesterday I actually took a chance and went in. It was kind of a warm day yesterday so I figured I can cool off with one of their treats. I ended up getting the strawberry shortcake or strawberry crumble. I forget the name. It was really good. The strawberry purée was my favorite part. It was vanilla, soft serve strawberry purée and graham cracker crumbles all inside of kind of a pastry. It was really good. I would definitely go back, but it was way too much for me to finish by myself. That would be something that I can see myself sharing with someone. I was real excited to try this place out. It had been on my food bucket list for over a year ever since I had chimney cakes in Niagara Falls. It was so amazing there and I thought more of the world needed to get into this. When I saw this opened up in Baltimore I couldn't wait to try it! Unfortunately, I was very underwhelmed. The ice cream wasn't the right texture for soft serve. It reminded me of frozen yogurt sorbet (not the flavor, just the texture). So that was already off-putting. My 2nd issue was that fact that they put a jumbo marshmallow at the base of the chimney cake. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it's not to deceive you and give you less ice cream, but more so to prevent so much ice cream from leaking out. However, this isn't stated on the menu and as a vegetarian, I don't eat marshmallows nor appreciate the fact that it had to come in contact with the rest of my food. I wouldn't have been as upset if this was at least disclosed on their menu. If you've never had a chimney cake before, you may be impressed by this place, especially if your ice cream is truly soft serve. The only other thing I think would be an improvement is to sell these in cartons as they are very messy and hard to eat without dropping crumbs everywhere. read more

Sugar rush alert!!! Ahhhhh I am not one for too much sugar...but for those that are RUN HERE! The buns with ice cream and toppings are SWEET!! They have several flavor offerings that you can choose from. The do also have drinks such as expressos, lattes, teas and lemonade. I needed over a gallon of water to wash it all down, but several others in my group was fine. They do have a small seating area inside and a shared outside seating area which is also small. There is also a bathroom all the way towards the back. The owner and her husband were very sweet and willing to assist with answering any and all questions we had. The presentation of my key lime crunch was amazing. Now as for the taste of my key lime crunch I loved the soft serve ice cream, the marshmallow at the bottom and the cookie on top. Recommended the banana pudding chimney cake, so that's what I went with. So good!! Even my fam (who are not fans of sweets) loved it! The ice cream was not overbearingly sweet so it paired well with all of the toppings. I thought there would be more ice cream inside, but the actual donut-chimney part is stuffed with marshmallow, so it didn't pile too high. Oh it was soooo good. I had never heard of such a thing as a chimney cake, but when I saw a pic of this place on instagram I immediately made plans to get one. The chimney cake is a piece of fried donut-like dough, I think Hungarian in origin, crispy outside and soft inside, that serves as the cone. Yes, it is shaped like a chimney. Mine was covered in cinnamon sugar. They have many options such as cookies and cream and fruity pebbles flavors, but I opted for just ice cream (vanilla soft serve) with the cinnamon sugar chimney cake & a drizzle on top. One surprise is that there are marshmallows in the bottom of the cone holding up the ice cream, which was smart. They have their own little custom chimney cone holders. The store itself is decorated beautifully & instagram-ready. It does take a few minutes to get your ice cream, since they are frying the chimney cakes fresh. Fed Hill has a lot of ice cream places, but this was a truly unique experience and I will absolutely be back. Would be a memorable place to take your out of town visitors.
