Buns & Rose is a modern ice creamery tucked on the corner of Light street famous for chimney cakes. What is that? It is sweet dough with a crispy caramelized crunchy outside and a light fluffy dough inside. And they pair it with soft serve ice cream and an array of toppings. The results are great; they have concoctions like Oreo Smash and Bread Pudding to name a few. The service is great; so go for the ice cream; stay for the vibes. Also, It's a nice spot for date day or night.
I tried chimney cakes while in Prague and absolutely loved them. I just accepted that I wouldn't have them again unless I returned to Prague. When I found out about this place from a friend and I was so excited to try it! The girls that work here are so sweet. The place is super cute and aesthetic. The chimney cake was delicious and they have tons of flavors. I want to try the key lime or strawberry flavor next time. Also I thought the price was really good for what you get. My only complaint/suggestion is to have other flavors ice creams like chocolate.
This is my second time visiting this black owned establishment however, this time I brought my youngest daughter after our date at the Science center. We walked an extra block over to get there but it was well worth the wait. I went outside my comfort zone and chose the banana pudding chimney cake this time. My little one wanted plain ice cream with sprinkles. It was truly delicious and a very personalized experience. This place is very clean and very photogenic. 10/10 & I will definitely be back
Seen this place on instagram have to give a try the service was nice the the chimmy cake was good I just didn't understand or like the marshmallow but the cake the ice cream was scooped into was bomb . Had to support and stop by ! Give em a try
Yummy yummy! Cute find. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the warm and bubbly staff. They answered all of my questions and made suggestions. I went with the biscotti and it was perfect!
My fiance really wanted to try Hungarian chimney cakes and found this place. The lady working was very nice and when I was stuck between Oreo or Banana she reccomended banana. I loved her reccomendation. The ice cream itself was kind of icy, but the chimney cake was pretty good. If you like really sweet stuff, this is your place. It's a bit too much sugar for me, but I still enjoyed it.
Sugar rush alert!!! Ahhhhh I am not one for too much sugar...but for those that are RUN HERE! The buns with ice cream and toppings are SWEET!! They have several flavor offerings that you can choose from. The do also have drinks such as expressos, lattes, teas and lemonade. I needed over a gallon of water to wash it all down, but several others in my group was fine. They do have a small seating area inside and a shared outside seating area which is also small. There is also a bathroom all the way towards the back. The owner and her husband were very sweet and willing to assist with answering any and all questions we had. I believe their younger daughters and son works there as well. Happy family affair! All in all, this was an amazing new sweet treat. It's for the ones that have a real sweet tooth to indulge on the whole experience!!
Every time I walk past this place, I always wondered what it was. For the longest I thought they specialized in cupcakes. But yesterday I actually took a chance and went in. It was kind of a warm day yesterday so I figured I can cool off with one of their treats. I ended up getting the strawberry shortcake or strawberry crumble. I forget the name. It was really good. The strawberry purée was my favorite part. It was vanilla, soft serve strawberry purée and graham cracker crumbles all inside of kind of a pastry. It was really good. I would definitely go back, but it was way too much for me to finish by myself. That would be something that I can see myself sharing with someone. There was plenty of places on the inside to sit and I also liked the cool little R&B playlist they had going. I was the only customer so the server had a chance to answer all of my questions. Definitely will go back. I love supporting black owned businesses in Baltimore!
This is one of the cutest shops around in the area! The decor and service while in the shop are most definitely highlights. GLOWS: -The chimney cake is a cool concept. I appreciate this shop introducing the city to treats from other countries. -They also have soft serve ice cream, banana pudding, and some other sweet treats to choose from. GROWS: -on several occasions, I have tried to return during their noted business hours and they have not been open. I hope this will not become a regular business practice of being closed when they are supposed to be open.
Was looking for a new spot to have different and tasty desserts I found it!! Their Ice cream cones were baked right there so soft and delish. The ice cream was topped with different flavors together amazing! Even though the place was small it made up for it with its sweet treats and service. The only thing I would add is air conditioning it would help with the ice cream and keeping customers cool. Great spot so if in the area try them out!!
Stopped in because I was in the area. This was a small and dainty little shop. There was only one person working. She was very friendly and polite. Placing my order was easy. The presentation of my key lime crunch was amazing. Now as for the taste of my key lime crunch I loved the soft serve ice cream, the marshmallow at the bottom and the cookie on top. However, I didn't care for the bun like cone. It reminded me of a croissant. I somewhat enjoyed it but, it's not something I would have to have again. Try it and see what you think. Your taste buds may be different from mine.
I read about this place on southbmore.com and was driving by on our way to dinner... So decided to stop in for some pre-dinner dessert! I've never had a chimney cake before, and the girls behind the counter were great to explain this Hungarian style dessert. It's like a cinnamon bun, croissant, donut hybrid that acts as an ice cream cone for fluffy soft serve with lots of crumbly toppings! The chimney cake itself was really delicious. Me and my eating partner split one which was a great decision, because boy, do they pack a lot of sugar! It's a specialty treat, and we both enjoyed it a whole lot. The ambience is cute, and they have a very sweet little courtyard patio that's got really cool textured murals (though also a lot of mosquitos - at least when we went). We went around 5 on a weekday, so there was no line or wait, just a few of the staff's friends who came in a little after us.

The cake is like a buttery, flakey, toasted croissant with a hint of sweetness. The vanilla bean ice cream and strawberries is light and refreshing. When I got to my last two bites I was surprised with a marshmallow treat! It's absolutely delectable! I be back for more. Service: The owner was training her staff, but this did not slow down the service. She made our chimney cakes like each one was a unique work of art. Note: Go for the specialty chimney cakes! It has all the bells and whistles that take the cake to the next level.

I stopped in here after brunch after a friend recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. This place is located walking distance to the harbor. There is plenty of seating inside as well as a bunch of different photo opportunities. The staff here was very warm and welcoming. The menu has a bunch of different pre-thought of combinations as well as the opportunity for you to make your own in addition to coffee drinks, as well as other desserts. I got the Oreo smash and the staff was nice enough to let me get a fresh chimney cake so it was warm out of the oven. In the bottom of the chimney cake, they put two marshmallows to keep the ice cream as it melts from breaking down the paper cone that it sits in which add a nice little sweet addition to the overall dessert. This dessert was so good and I wholeheartedly appreciate that the ice cream is dairy free. I tasted Oreo cookie in every bite and the warm chimney cake was the cherry on top for me. I will definitely be back again. read more
There are so many ice cream shops on light St. this one however stands out from the other ones! You get to choose your signature flavor and it's not just ice cream, it's a fancy ice cream and donut made to perfection! The ladies that were working were nice and helped explain what it was that I was ordering since it was my first time here. I love having recommendations. The interior is so beautiful and carefully designed. I love how cheerful it is inside. I highly recommend this place. They give a different meaning to ice cream compared to just your normal ice cream cone. read more

Banana Pudding Chimney Cake It's work of art. The "cone" is soft with a croissant/pastry like texture. The vanilla wafer crumb coating on the outside adds an extra emph to it. The banana pudding drizzle on top of the ice cream was hitt'in! I wish there was more pudding inside like the description, if there was then more would've been nice. The marshmallow surprise in the bottom was a nice end to the treat. I loved everything about this ice cream cone. An awesome spin on a classic treat. Ambiance The decor inside was so freaking cute!! Roses all around, warm and inviting. The cute patio in the back, such a dope spot to go to. Delicious! Fairly new so it seems like they are still figuring the flow of things out. Staff was very nice and explained the Hungarian background of the chimney cakes. I opted for the Ohh So Cookie Butter chimney cake and swapped the caramel drizzle for chocolate syrup. So so good! Very cute inside, lots of photo ops! read more

This place is cute dessert / treat shop . Plenty of photo opportunities. The average ice cream cone is $9-$12 depending on what you get more for addition items. Overall I would probably come here again . But it's a lot of seeetness. You can share one of these. read more

I had a great first experience at Buns&Roses! Walked in overwhelmed with all of the options, but the lady working in the front was so friendly and gave me a run down of the menu. Recommended the banana pudding chimney cake, so that's what I went with. So good!! Even my fam (who are not fans of sweets) loved it! The ice cream was not overbearingly sweet so it paired well with all of the toppings. I thought there would be more ice cream inside, but the actual donut-chimney part is stuffed with marshmallow, so it didn't pile too high. Next time I come back (which I definitely will), I want to try another flavor. Come here if you're in Baltimore for dessert! read more

Buns & Roses nailed the assignment perfectly in terms of specializing in this dessert and nestling within the Federal Hill area of Baltimore. This dessert perfectly encapsulates the laissez faire and creative energy Baltimore has to offer. The dessert itself is as beautifully constructed as it is delicious. With all speciality chimney cakes, it comes with ice cream - cooling off anyone caught in Baltimore's summer. However, this sweet spot is also one of the best nightcap locations in Baltimore, so bring a friend/special someone to share one of these chimney cakes with! The exterior is a bit hard to find, but that just adds to the element of contemporary style this place boasts. On the inside is an eclectic display of FOH and BOH combined into service. The clerks are eager to share information about their desserts and offer suggestions on what's most popular in their establishment. This creation was so delicious. It's a Hungarian donut with vanilla soft serve covered with oreo. Yes, please! It takes a while to get down to the donut part, but once you do it's so good. Next time, I'd like to try the strawberry flavor (gives you summer light vibes), but I always have to try chocolate first when I see it. It gets messy towards the end because the donut is open at the bottom, but embrace it! The inside is also super cute. read more
This place is AMAZING! I saw it on IG and TikTok, but don't worry, it's worth the hype. The location in Federal Hill is very clean and beautiful. The owner was operating the shop and was friendly. She is a beautiful young woman and was very passionate about her business. She let me know about the flavors and where chimney cakes originated. Customer service was giving "I'm a professional" and I'm here for it! I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake and boy was it delicious. The cone, the ice cream and flavor were chef's kiss! Fan Favorite!! I want them to open a second location!! The options here are endless. I remember the first time, my Boyfriend and I tried this place out & we devoured our ice cream & chimney cakes, we were so excited to get to the bottom where the marshmallows were! We ate so good and we were like, wait... we just ate ice cream why aren't we gassy? We then discovered that this place serves non dairy & vegan ice cream/dessert. We swear by this place and hope everyone makes this their go to dessert shop! You will not be disappointed. read more

I walked past Buns & Roses one day and saw the happiest people in the window devouring these delicious desserts. I vowed to come back and be one of those happy people and today was that day. When we walked through the door, we were asked had we ever indulged before. When we said no, we were given a very accurate breakdown of the type of desserts they had to offer. We were all so indecisive as honestly we weren't quite sure how and what to order. The cashier was so very patient with us and made excellent recommendations based on our preferences. They even allowed us to taste what we ordered first to ensure we knew what we were getting into. I had the cookie butter chimney cake and it was absolutely delightful. The ice cream was a perfect accompaniment to the super soft doughy doughnut it was nestled in. I will say, it's a lot of sugar, so brace yourself. Not to mention the space inside is just as instagrammable as the dessert itself. I whole heartedly recommend this place. read more
The four stars creativity. The customer service was ok. Me and my sister visited same young lady saw us never asked us was this our first time here, but other young ladies came and she greeted them and gave them menus. The ice cream itself, just self serve in a chimney cake. Creativity great but I rather have homemade ice cream like other places I visited for the price. The ice cream does not go all the way down, there is a marshmallow in the middle. Good experience, but I rather go to Tia's Italian ice, or Taharka. read more

This was my first time visiting Buns & Roses, and it was such a treat! First, the location is so beautiful. They did a great job decorating the area with all the gorgeous flower pink sparkly wallpaper. It is just an overall aesthetically pleasing environment. I had the Oreo version of their Chimney cake with ice cream, and I enjoyed it. They placed marshmallows at the base of the chimney cake to stop the ice cream from falling down and that was a pleasant sweet surprise. If you are not big into sweets, this may be something you want to share. It was a nice little treat to have while hanging out in the city. read more
