    Seafood Pho
    Christina F.

Restaurant was clean and staff friendly. Ordered seafood pho which was a large bowl but only seafood was shrimp and artificial crab which both tasted a bit freezer burnt. Veggie plate for pho was fresh and cold. Surcharge if you use a credit card. Overall for me was disappointing pho.

Spicy beef noodle (bun bo hue, $11).

3.5 stars because this is fine for Kansas City. 3 stars if you're from anywhere else that has lots of Vietnamese places. Service was great when we chose to dine in. Banh mi special, $7.50 - I think half of what makes a delicious banh mi is the bread and this wasn't it. The bread was crispy, but it wasn't airy or fluffy, and the crust didn't flake. This made me realize how good I had it back in California. The pickled carrots were kind of mild and not very pickled, but the basic taste of a banh mi was there. I'd recommend this. Spicy beef noodle (aka bun bo hue), $11 - This wasn't spicy at all until you add in their chili oil on the side, which is fine but not what I'm used to. This didn't have the strong flavor I associated with bun bo hue, so while it was decent, I wouldn't order this if you're expecting bun bo hue. Without the chili oil, it's mild, which I prefer. Pho beef, $11 - Good portions and taste, but I could literally make this at home. From the dark brown separation of the broth, I'm guessing they use a powdered flavor mix. Nothing wrong with that because the flavor is good. It's just...I could buy the powder from a supermarket and make it at home (which I probably now will, honestly). Both noodles came with the typical bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos, and lime on the side.

    Special Sandwich

I ordered 2 sandwiches on a Thursday night. I got the special (dac biet) and a grilled beef sandwich. The special sandwich came out juicy and good. The only complaint is the jalapeños were sliced pretty thick and hard to actually enjoy. The grilled beef was chewy and not something I would get again. There was no real flavor and I had to keep chewing to get the beef to break apart. Overall the sandwiches were pretty decent.

I've only ever come here for their Banh Mi and it never disappoints. The Pork Belly is fatty and delicious. It's a filling sandwich and decently priced. The Banh Mi used to be a whole baguette, but you can see that we've lost about 1/3 of what the sandwich used to be :(

Simple family restaurant serving sandwiches, noodle, and rice dishes. They are best known for their banh mi, a Vietnamese sandwich made with French bread and various fillings. Their sandwiches were very good!!! However, the size of the sandwich was a little different than what I'm used to. For $6, I would've expected a few inches more on the sandwich, but it was still within a reasonable range. Another difference that I noticed (from what I'm accustomed to) was their deluxe sandwich was made with roasted Chinese pork instead of the cold cut version that I like, but still delicious. I've had better pate and richer eggy mayo too- But just because the sandwich was different in style from how I like it it doesn't mean it was a bad sandwich. They also have taro and pandan waffles which I would recommend for a semi sweet treat. Overall a great sandwich. I would return with adjusted expectations and I'm sure I'll love my next one.

This small space tucked into a small strip mall is, hands down, one of the best sandwich shops in town. The key is the restaurant's liberal use of fresh vegetables. Like right out of the ground fresh vegetables (hello Jalapeno!) that are piled high in heaping amounts. I recommend the pork sandwich (add an egg,) but I don't think there is a bad choice. I also recommend the beef spring rolls. Like the sandwiches, the rolls are liberally sized and packed full of veggies and served with a small container of peanut sauce. They're the perfect appetizer. The menu also includes rice and noodle dishes as well as soups and currys. I haven't made it that far down the menu, but if these plates are anything like the sandwiches, they'll probably make your day.

    Beef Pho

I visited early on a Thursday evening, ordering a bowl of beef pho to warm my soul on a frigid winter evening. We ordered at the counter, and after finding a seat, hearty bowls of pho and condiments were brought to us. Here, there are no sauces on the table-you are issued a small cup with both hoisen and hot sauce together. While not my absolute favorite pho, this pho was served nice and hot, hearty, and rich in flavor. It was pretty cold in the dining area, not very clean, and the music--one song was playing on repeat the entire time . Regardless, it was a good pho experience and I would definitely return.

Grabbed dinner at bun mee Phan. It is an unassuming little place in Gladstone. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I got the pork sandwich and it was really good. My husband got a rice platter and it was just ok. A friend got spring rolls and they have very little flavor aside from the peanut sauce they came with. I would give my sandwich 5 stars, but the other food dropped my rating a little.

Specials today were meatball banh mi & caramelized ribs with rice. We ordered the ribs, beef pho, pork belly bahn mi with a fried egg, pork spring rolls, quail, salty lemonade & an Oreo boba drink. I subtracted a star because the quail appetizer was cold and almost tasted boiled and was a disappointment. Although the rib dish was flavorful, there was no caramelization. The bahn mi seems to be the way to go. It was ginormous and delicious.

To the left is the "noodle bowl" and to the right is the inside of a "spring roll". Both were identical and disgusting

I love Vietnamese food because it's packed with flavor and herbs and aromatics. Bun Mee Phan has managed the unbelievable of making Vietnamese food BLAND and disgusting. We ordered a Boba tea, the noodle bowl and the spring rolls (both dishes pictured) and received two dishes with identical ingredients: a pile of slimy completely unseasoned noodles, the cheapest iceberg lettuce, UNPICKLED plain carrots, plain cucumber and a sprig of cilantro. I spent $30 on a giant pile of slimy noodles and plain vegetables and a drink. There was NO FLAVOR. We drove 30 minutes to eat here and will have to get French fries on the way back to the hotel because no one wanted to eat the bland noodles. My daughters said microwave ramen would have been better and I'd have to agree. Really disappointed and feeling ripped off.

First time here. Almost passed it on North Oak Trafficway. Thank goodness for Siri. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the order taker. I let them know it was my first time. She was very helpful to make suggestions for lunch. We opted for the chicken pho, lemongrass chicken and rice plus the lemongrass chicken spring roll. To drink we ordered the Vietnamese coffee and mango boba tea. After paying we were seated and the food was brought out to our table. The wait staff checked on us a couple of times. If you like (or want to experience) authentic Vietnamese food I would recommend trying this place.

The problem is the food, the flat rice noodle plate was bland and the massaman curry ingredients used were awful... I couldn't even eat the chicken because it was hard like rubber and the potatoes looked like they were there 4 days... I really think the curry was fresh but they've used old ingredients. (as you can see in the photo) The only good thing was the lettuce wrap, even thought the lettuce wasn't cut properly for the dish as you can see in the photo. When I've talked to the lady host/waitress she didn't care at all, put a funny face. Of course, to charge... Their peanut sauce that went with the spring rolls was thicker than the places that I am used to. They accidentally forgot our sweet potato dish, but with how busy they were, we decided not to wait any longer. The cà phê sữa đá was excellent--the balance of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk was just right. The bánh mì was decent as well. I went with a group of 6 from work. I find it's harder to concentrate and make too many mental notes when you are either a larger group but you do get more opinions. Everyone was very happy. Our server was fantastic! On top of everything! I wish I knew their name but too much was going on and I missed it. We started with a sampler as an appetizer. I liked everything except the veggie dumplings. I usually like veggie but there was some strong flavor to these I did not like. Everyone at the table felt the same. Still very good though. I got the lunch Singapore Chicken Noodles. I wasn't familiar with how they handled the heat level so I went with mild, a 1 to be safe. I'd definitely go up to a 2. It was very good otherwise but needed a little flavor. Other dishes at the table were drunken noodles, massaman curry, and more. Everyone liked their meal. I would definitely go back. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. After work, a coworker and I decided to grab lunch because I was craving Thai food--specifically yellow curry, which is one of my absolute favorite dishes. Since I'm new to the Kansas City area, I've been trying different local restaurants, so we decided to give Lulu's Thai a chance. I ordered the yellow curry, and my coworker ordered the Pad Thai. Sadly, my yellow curry was the worst I've ever had. It was extremely bland and lacked the rich, creamy flavor that yellow curry is known for. I had also ordered a second yellow curry to go for my daughter, but after tasting mine, I immediately asked them to cancel it because I knew she wouldn't enjoy it either. Instead, I ordered pork dumplings to take home since those are another one of her favorite foods. Unfortunately, those were just as disappointing. She took one bite and said they were the worst dumplings she'd ever had. I spoke with our server about my meal, and after leaving the restaurant I called and left a voicemail for a manager. I wasn't calling just to complain--I genuinely wanted to discuss my experience, see if a refund was possible, and I was even willing to come back and give another dish a try if they wanted the opportunity to make it right. Unfortunately, no one ever returned my call. The lack of follow-up was just as disappointing as the food. Good customer service doesn't end when a customer walks out the door, and I expected at least a return phone call. Based on this experience, I won't be returning. I really wanted to love this place, but between the disappointing food and the lack of response from management, I just can't recommend it.
