Anousone is tucked all the way at the end inside Strang Food Hall. We love that each restaurant there shares a little story behind its name, and I was especially intrigued reading about Chef Anourom Thomson and his Lao background. The two of us shared the breakfast bánh mì, papaya salad, and a side of mushrooms. Even though we kept our order pretty simple, everything was flavorful and delicious. It's so nice to have solid Southeast Asian options like this in Kansas City. It might be a tough market in LA, but I'd love to see him venture out to SoCal and open a spot there someday! read more

This place within the string hall, never disappoints. Came today to try their specialty of the week, the Bánh Mì Thịt Nướng, and it was excellent. From the bread, to the tender, yet charred pork on the inside and fresh toppings, this was a great lunch sandwich. Never had a bad meal here. Our absolute favorite wings in town are actually the red curry drummies, and they have a gf version too!

I have eaten here several times and I really enjoy everything I have had here. The service is top notch and you can tell the level of craftsmanship they put in each dish. I have had the chicken laab, rice noodle bowl, and khao poon and they are so flavorful. I love sweet and salty and hints of complex aromatics and this hits the spot every time. This used to be my favorite place at Strang Hall. 99% of the time I ordered this amazing coconut curry with pulled pork, noodles and veggies. Think it was called Kao Phoon or something like that. Now it's gone from their menu. They used to have the best egg rolls in the area. Took those off the menu over a year ago. Has left me with nothing I want on their menu and now far less likely to come to the O.P. Strang Hall. Only other thing here is like is the sushi place. Not that the sandwich, taco, and pizza places aren't food. It's just that I like those thing better elsewhere. And honestly, like sushi better elsewhere as well, but the sushi nachos are kind of unique to here. So, when I have a craving for that, will come to Strang. Anousone is one of our favorite places for good SE Asian food at Strang Hall, and we make every effort to squeeze in a meal at least once here during our annual trip back to KC. Yes, the food is that good --- so so good that I prioritize our schedule to accommodate dining at Anousone. Chef Thomson is extremely talented and continues to elevate his menu year after year. We first dined at Anousone in 2022 and was "wow-ed" by the flavor of every single dish! Superb! Good flavorful food and variety of options. I had the Khao Poon which was delicious, but I wish it had more meat. My friends had the Banh mi and the Beef Pho which they also liked but also said that they could have more meat in their meals. Service was fast and staff was friendly. My second time at Strang Hall and won't be the last. I recommend going here if you're not sure where you want to eat. There's so many options! And if you love food like me you can get bits and pieces from all the restaurants they have to offer and try a little bit of everything. This visit I finally got to try Anousone. I ordered mushrooms, papaya salad, red curry wings, and egg rolls. If you're getting a protein and wanting a nice side I would definitely get the mushrooms or the papaya salad which I loved especially. It was refreshing to pair with the wings. I'm not crazy about eggrolls in general but my partner liked them and so did I. But my favorite out of everything I ordered was definitely the wings. The skin was the perfect crispiness you'd want your wings to be and overall tasted delicious!! I only ordered six and wished I ordered 12 Ordering was a breeze and the wait was little to none. I always love stopping in for lunch at Anousone in Strang Hall. I always get the stir fry noodles and switch up what meat I get in the noodles. I most recently had the crispy pork belly. The pork belly was very tasty and was a great addition to the noodles. The serving size is very large and a great deal. I never have to wait long for my order to be ready. Strang Hall itself has plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor and has great online ordering options. This is a great spot to meet a group for a meal, drinks, or both! read more

I must have tried the wrong things here, or caught them on an off day. I tried the red curry wings and the crispy coconut rice. They both sounded very good, but both were just okay at best. The wings were crispy and crunchy, but very greasy/oily. One of the bigger drumsticks we received was not cooked all the way through. The peanut sauce and chili sauce were both good. I think the sauces were the best part, even if I ignore the one drumstick that was underdone. I couldn't tell if the crispy coconut fried rice was supposed to be a hot dish or a cold dish. I'm used to fried rice dishes being served warm or hot. Some of it was cold, some of it was lukewarm, but none of it was hot. I thought the flavors were good, the textures were good, and it was tasty, but the temperature it was served at was confusing at best. Overall, just an okay experience, but other reviews seem much more favorable, so maybe I just caught them on an off day. read more

Nothing but nice things to say about Anousone. We've been a few times before for carryout and have had the banh mi. This time though, we stayed and ate in the food hall (which was SUPER clean and enjoyable!) Our experience started out ordering directly with the owner, who was so hospitable and happy to answer our questions and make recommendations. We shared the sticky rice plate with fried wings as well as the steamed buns with beef, pork belly and curried chicken. The owner also threw in the fried brussel sprouts. Everything was so yummy! I've been enjoying Anousone since the days of the food truck on Southwest Boulevard, and am so happy they're here and have survived the worst of the pandemic. There's a lot of great food to like here. Laotian cuisine is fun, and this is one of the only and by far the best options that I've had in KC. The pork curry is excellent. I've been spending a lot of time cooking over the past couple years. That dish is a reminder of just how darn far I have to go- it's so good! Great balance. Also really enjoy the brunch options. I think it was a breakfast sandwich that was just vibrant with flavor. I hope that's still on the menu, I want you to have that in your life. Like don't get me wrong, I appreciate the rich simplicity of a basic sausage and egg breakfast, but what if you layered in a carrot slaw with cilantro and some kind of world-opening sauce that hits some of the best neuroreceptors in your brain on a molecular level? It's a neat trick, I want to learn how to do that. In the many times we've been, not everything has always completely dazzled us... sometimes it's only been good instead of amazing. But the food is consistently good- and often much, much more. Service is great. Chef is wonderful- sharp and professional, while also kind and inviting. We ordered the khao poon, crab Rangoon and the sticky rice plate with pork belly as well and the forbidden rice dessert. Everything tasted incredible I loved the broth of the Khao poon and the crispness of the pork. The crab rangoons were stuffed full of crab and cream cheese filling. So my first time in Kansas City and on my second day here I went to Strang Food Hall at Overland Park. I browsed by all the restaurants and came upon this Asian Fusion place called Anousone. The one menu item that looked appetizing was the Grilled pork chops with rice for under $20. One bite of the pork chops and I stopped for a second. Man the pork was so flavorful and moist throughout, there wasn't any dry part. They cooked the pork chops to perfection. Mua. I finished it in 10 min. This dish was amazing. Green Papaya Salad - Could have been better. Lacked the umami. Could use more fish sauce, garlic and lime. Sticky Rice - Very disappointing. Hard as rock. Not acceptable! Sticky Rice Plate - Good combo, but again, the lack of flavor in green papaya salad and hard as rock sticky rice - it's just very disappointing. Khao Poon. That's it. That's the review. Ok maybe I should elaborate a bit, since that dish was completely new to me. Take a red curry, one of my favorite Thai dishes to begin with. Then, add..pulled pork to it... Now we're talking, right?! Vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts, and a nice spice level bring this dish home for me. It's worth coming back for. I got to visit with the chef the last time in and he's super cool, I recommend you do the same if he's in. We also tried a Forbidden Rice Pudding dessert that was so good; tasted like a Rice Krispie Treat but with a flan like consistency. Wonderful food. I love it, I feel like they could have broken up the seating areas more to give it some privacy, walls etc. Keep it open but spit it up a bit. Booths or something to break up the cafeteria vibe. Otherwise, it gets boring pretty quickly. There needs to be more inside ambiance and allow small dogs outside. On a leash of course! This place was such a gem! It was recommended to me by our family friends, and we all went to try it out one evening. It is a great, easy modern and clean food-court style casual style. Anousone is a Laotian-style joint with a great selection. We got the Khaopoon (MMMmmmm delicious!), with a light yet flavored red-coconut curry type broth with plenty of fresh chopped veggies. If you're expecting a hot noodle dish though, this isn't it - it is served lukewarm. We also go the delicious yellow curry (I got it with pork belly) - delicious. Very well-seasoned, and we had leftovers for the next day. The iced green/mint tea wasn't much to rave about - refreshing, but I will probably skip it next time.
