Crab rangoons, egg roll, fries, and chicken wings. Lackluster plate, I know, but this is only food picture I have of this place

A few things to say. First off, the food; the make or break of any restaurant. Great. The crayfish are delectable, and lo mein is nice too. Some grievances however, the fries are a bit undercooked, and having the ice cream just out like that isn't the most sanitary. I haven't seen much wrong with the service, the lady (or guy) at the front sits us down, and we get refills every once in a while. Then they hand us the bill, and that's really it. I like the string lights in the place, it adds to the ambiance. I always look forward to coming here. Will come agian.

This restaurant came highly recommended, however if I could receive a refund, I'd gladly take it. First off, the person at the door acted as if she couldn't care less whether customers came in or not. This was a very poor first impression. Why did t I leave then? Shame on me!!! She barely even directed me to a seat....no people skills...AT ALL!!! I will say my server was phenomenal! She was extremely attentive, kind and professional. I couldn't have been more pleased with her service. The food...well, another story. Just about everything I chose was not hot...in fact, it was barely warm. Are you serious? Maybe the burners were worn out...I don't know, but it was awful. I wonder if the food was hot if it would've made a difference....it was just that bad and several selections were flavorless... One thing's for sure...I don't plan on returning. I'm an Asian food connoisseur and I've had a thousand times better. It's a wrap!

This is the first buffet with Chinese that I've been too in a very very long time. But this one is probably one of the best I've ever been to. Very clean, excellent service and the food is topped off regularly with fresh hot varieties. My favorite was the General Tsaos Chicken very flavorsome, slight crunch with spicy sweet sauce. Delish! The Egg rolls, and the soups were very good, sushi was very good too and very fresh tasting except for the artificial crab on the one. But it still tasted great. Wasn't a fan at all of the beef n broccoli and the spring rolls had an odd taste to it. Husband got the Mongolian bar to make his dish and the one pictured was his second trip. He loved it. The bar was missing a non fried version of Chinese like Moo Gai Pan or garlic chicken, fresh shrimp or chicken spring rolls would be ideal for me personally and so that was a bit of a disappointment but maybe today wasn't the day for that. The dessert bar was large and had fruit, puddings, cakes, those lil yummy sugar donut thingys. Anyway, we will come back here and it's just down the street from us basically.

Dirtiest restaurant I've ever been to and it smelled like sewage. I wish we had walked out. We will never go back.

The buffet has a reasonable selection. The price has increased significantly though. Thus, this option is much less a value choice.

Ask the Community - Asian Buffet

Is it customary to tip buffets?

Yes, for the waitstaff who clear your table. Many buffets you pay in advance so I leave a cash tip from 10% to 20% depending on level of service delivered.

The ambience: vibrant, artful murals sprawling the walls with homage paid to Kansas City. The space is clean and modern. Intimate seating. If you are wanting a spacious and slow experience, come in during the lunch hour. A special nod at whoever controls the playlist - there's some good music in here too! The drinks: there's such a good selection of sake, cocktails, AND beer. I've eaten at several Asian/Japanese restaurants: Kata Nori boasts a CURATED drink menu. The food: the hand rolls are the show stopper here, crudos come in close second. The hand rolls are FRESH and the fish here is so clean. Specialty fish flown in from Japan. My favorite thing about the food (which flows into my service bit) - is that you can really get some personalization done on your food. Special shout outs to Jacob, John, and Zach. But Zach, overall, was really incredible with his knowledge of the menu. He was the one making my hand rolls today and he gave very polite recommendations for plates and rolls. He was extremely knowledgeable about what was on the menu and ended up showing me something new (and probably my new favorite roll!) you can tell he's very passionate about his job and really takes pride in his work. Overall, the experience was 12/10. There's a few new "stand out" Japanese restaurants around, but it should be notably mentioned that Kata Nori was truly the first of its kind here. Come see what they're rollin' up over here!

Jazz club / Sushi bar combo - interesting concept!…read more We didn't fit the target demographic, but we're made to feel quite welcome by both staff and other guests - very nice! We chose hand rolls from the unique menus, and complied with our server's suggestion to munch while the nori was nice and crisp - a great suggestion. Texture was spot on, and taste, while a little out of the ordinary in our experience, was quite interesting. Music was a little loud, probably suited a little better for later in the evening when packed with more people. Prices were a little high, even by our Los Angeles-area standards, but probably appropriate for an "in" spot.

A sushi restaurant that has its own extensive vegan menu??…read more It sounds weird, but Blue Sushi does it and does it right! Sushi is more than the fish; it's the rice, it's the ingredients, and its the combination of flavor and texture wrapped up in a small bite-sized piece. I'm used to (and love) my avocado rolls, but it's nice to get some proper creative vegan rolls! Here, they have an extensive menu full of creative vegan rolls, some made with vegan proteins such as salmon and tuna! Even better, they do an incredible happy hour where many of the vegan rolls are included! I went here twice during my trip. I tried these rolls: Vegan Philadelphia: My favorite, as it is a simple roll I rarely get to enjoy as a vegan. Vegan cream cheese and vegan salmon put together to get that nostalgic creamy flavor. Vegan Kaluna Crunch: Delicious texture combining crunchy and smooth. Shiitake to me: Umami burst of flavor from the mushrooms Vegan Hot Pepper: My least favorite of the 4 I've tried, but still creative and has a spicy kick! I also had their miso soup and sake cocktails. I sat at the bar and had a great time. It was always busy, so I recommend reservations if you want a table!

Every menu item feels very intentional and well executed. The offerings on the cocktail menu are fabulous. Both the ube and lychee cocktails are delicious. My partner and his mom both had a sake flight, each offering was delicious and different in offering. If you like sake you will definitely find one you like with this flight! They both ended up liking a yuzu sake and split a bottle, the finish was sweet, crisp and perfect for the Kansas City heat. I started with an espresso martini, the coffee flavor was strong and sweet and I was a fan! During our meal I opted for a martini corner dirty vodka martini and as a dirty martini enthusiast I was very pleased and will continue to recommend! I finished off with a matcha martini that was sweet, creamy and smooth and paired perfectly with our tempura banana! Speaking of food, the star of the show, we genuinely had only good bites here as usual. We sat at the bar on the corner, it was a nice seat that captured the energy of the restaurant, busy but somehow tranquil. Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

The service was attentive and friendly, and all of the food we ordered was delicious. One thing I really loved about Noka was the atmosphere. The space has this beautiful minimal, high-end rustic vibe that feels elevated without being overly formal. It made the restaurant feel special enough for a celebration while still being comfortable and welcoming. And a huge bonus -- Noka has a dedicated parking lot for customers! This honestly made such a difference, especially when you're dining with a group. No driving around the area trying to find a spot before dinner, which made the whole experience that much more convenient. We ordered a ton of food and had the chance to try quite a few dishes. My personal favorite was the shiitake dumplings. They were so flavorful and definitely the dish I would come back for. Overall, Noka gave us exactly what we wanted for a special dinner: great food, great service, a beautiful atmosphere, and convenient parking. We had such a lovely evening celebrating together and would absolutely come back!
