For the good: the lady cooking and at the counter was very sweet and helpful. The food prices are really good and the serving sizes are abundant. The egg rolls were really good. The bad: my fried rice was really dry and bland. And I don't think the shrimp was good. It was very soft and mushy. The restaurant is really just for take out. Not pretty by any means but it was clean and you look directly into the kitchen. That looked perfectly clean as well. I might try another menu item in the future. I order the bourbon chicken combination she told me 10 min for my order I said ok. while I'm standing there looking at her prepare my food she pull the chicken from out the freezer place it in the microwave. I said no no that not my food she said 10 min so I'm still looking so after the microwave goes off she then place it in a bowl the rice was already in a pot the broccoli was sitting in water so put 2 broccoli on top of my rice. she had a big bowl of crab Rangoon sitting out from the freeze. Sometimes I just drive around and find a Chinese place I haven't tried before. Last night, I did the same. I saw the sign for Nice Food a bit late and had to double back. It was late and I wasn't sure if they were open, but the sign said they were open until 10 on Friday. I stepped in and finally saw someone in the back. They aren't very talkative...which is fine with me. They were quiet in a friendly way. I ordered Triple Delight combo (comes with fried rice and egg roll) and I added an order of 6 Crab Rangoon. Since I was the only person there, it only took a few minutes for my food to be ready. It came to just over $11, which isn't too bad. I headed home to see how the story would end. First, let me just say THANK YOU for actually giving me sauce for the Crab Rangoon...so many times you don't get this. I got a huge soup bowl of sauce without asking. The Crab Rangoon was good and actually had crab in them. The wontons were a little tough. They were very close to awesome...which is still pretty good. Moving on, the Triple Delight was really great too. I loved how the vegetables were super chunky. You don't just get the soggy gross broccoli tops, but you get long spears of broccoli. I like the stems best, so this was great. The shrimp were really plump and tasty and you get big chunks of the other meats too. I'm not a huge Egg Roll fan, but this one was really good. It was a little big, which made it kind of hard to eat. The fried rice was impressive. So many places call rice with soy sauce in it fried rice anymore. This had BIG chunks of pork in it. They had some great prices on the sandwich board outside... like $3.50 for chicken lo mien, but next time I think I'll try combo fried rice. You know it's pretty good when you are already planning what you'll order next time. Just a note... they do take credit cards, but charge a small fee to cover their transaction fee. read more

Grungy little joint, in West State Plaza. The couple works very hard slining out the Chinese goodies and they have a ton of items from which to choose. Nice, nice selection and diversity. I've had the mixed vegetables, vegetable lo mein and pork egg fu yung. This is my go-to place now that Evergreen is closed. The EFY isn't as good as Evergreen's but is IS good. I only eat the lemon pepper wings, they are a quick and easy meal that taste great! We have been coming here since it first opened. They are VERY CLEAN and the food is prepared in your sight. If you are coming for customer service, you had better skip this one. Someone else mentioned that the lady there is rude. SHE IS and preferential. When my husband goes she is very nice, when I go. NOT SO MUCH. I have called her out on it and she "no speak englished" me, ROTFCU. I think the husband has now brought in other help as I don't see her there the few times that we go. I love Nice Food. I've been getting my carry out from them for years. My favorites are pork with broccoli, general tso's chicken and beef with broccoli but I've had a lot of their items and the only thing I haven't cared for is the lo mein. The noodles taste just a bit burnt to me. The mushu with the plum sauce and pancakes is crazy good but make sure you like veggies, especially cabbage. The egg drop is good, the crab rangoon are as good as frozen csn be expected. Good enough for fast Chinese anyway. Everything is made when you order, except crab rangoon obviously, and tastes fresh. I've had better food, but it was at sit down Chinese restaurants with much higher prices. But for the low prices, big servings and good food you can't go wrong. My problem is I end up ordering several items and have to put a lot of it in the refrigerator. Chinese's doesn't reheat as good as some other foods. I just need to go more often and order 1-2 items. Never had a bad item there, although the hot and sour soup can be different depending on whose cooking. A favorite of mine is the teriyaki chicken. A boneless piece on a stick. I also keep forgetting to order something other than the 4 or so items I always order. Mom ate there a lot and sometimes I went with her. The owner was genuinely sadden to hear that she had died. One day Mom and I were in Raytown and saw another Nice Foods. Must be a franchise. The Raytown was OK, but the KCK was noticeably better. As one other reviewer said call ahead. Especially in winter. Great chinese dishes and plentiful servings. Excellent crab rangoon and shrimp toast. The triple delight and kung pao shrimp are both delicious. The couple usually working the kitchen speak very broken English, so it's pretty difficult having a conversation or discussing your order, which usually isn't an issue. This is a take-out only establishment, unless you like sitting at one of the 2 tables in the unheated lobby area (not air-conditioned in the summer either). The entire kitchen area is visible from the counter and it looks very clean but somewhat cramped. I've gotten take out here at least 20 times and never had an issue with the food. On a couple of occasions, they forgot to start my order before I got there, but the manager knew I was unhappy and threw in an extra order of appetisers. I always order from the large menu, but the lobby walls are lined with colorful hand-written 'specials', which have never interested me. I suggest you call in about 15-20 minutes before you arrive... and bundle up in case you have to wait in that lobby. Oh yeah... the prices are so cheap, I don't mind the lobby. Our usual Chinese place was closed due to a power outage so we decided to try something new.. We ordered beef Lo mien, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, crabrangoon, and egg rolls. Of all of the the only good thing were the egg rolls.. The sweet and sour chicken was just ok and the rest was TERRIBLE.. The Lo mien tasted very very odd.. I always get Lo mien at a Chinese place. It tasted very smokey and not in a good way, almost like cigarettes. And the crabrangoon tasted off as well almost like it had gone bad even though it felt fresh. They need to take a look at some of the other Chinese places in the area there's like 4 right there on state ave within 2 mins of Eachother.. And they're by far the worst. I don't think it was that the food was expired I think the recipes need adjusted in a bad way. read more

I go to this place because it's the only Chinese restaurant near me. It's not even worth it to go here. Might as well drive a further distance and get better food and service. The few times I've had it, it's been either dry, burnt or just flat out nasty. If you try to bring up a concern with them they are very rude about trying to handle it. I went in today to pick up an order for someone else that they screwed up and had to make again because no one seemed to understand English and became increasingly irritated with me because they couldn't understand even with me pointing to pictures . They apparently still had the wrong order at the restaurant and harassed me by calling my phone and yelling at me and then hanging up ( a male that works the register). Sucks. I went there a few years ago and got the shrimp fried rice. Stupid me, I went back today thinking it would be different. Literally it's onion, rice and salad shrimp they threw in at the end.
