43. Vegetable Lo Mein

I used to eat here all the time when I was younger, glad to see it's still around and that the same family still runs / owns it. Portions and food are good. This was my first time getting an egg roll and noticed the meat inside was pink, the few bites I got in before noticing were good. Service was speedy, I ordered there and food was ready in less than 15 mins.

Crab Rangoon

We grabbed takeout here this weekend after reading the great reviews! We had a coupon which brought our grand total to $20 bucks! Orange Chicken with Orange Peel: 3.5/5. This was a flavorful dish and the chicken had a nice crunch to it. However, I wasn't a fan of the actual orange peel so I picked around it! Egg rolls: 2/5. I can't describe why they weren't great, but they tasted different than a normal egg roll. They weren't super fresh and the filling seemed off. We ended up throwing them away. Sweet and sour chicken: my husband had no complaints. Pretty good portion size for what you pay! Every combination comes with rice and an egg roll. Crab Rangoons: 10/5! Saving the best for last. I am definitely the type to judge my entire experience off of the crab Rangoons at a Chinese place. For $5.50 we got 8 and they were big. Not the dorky kinds you get sushi places or even Thai places. These had a nice crunch and tasted fresh. They heated up great in the air fryer as leftovers. Overall, I would come back but I have had better Chinese. I don't think I would dine in as the building smelled like they were having some sewage issues. Great for takeout though!

Shrimp Lo Mein, Fried Dumplings (7), General Tso's Chicken, beef and Beef W/ Broccoli
Genevieve H.

I've been going here for years! It's by far my favorite Chinese take-out place in the KC area. The portions are LARGE and the food is always delicious and hot. Some of my favorites are General Tso's chicken (orange chicken was a little too orange flavored for me and this is a good balance), beef and broccoli, and the lo mein. The crab rangoons are some of the best in town, and I would always recommend getting and order of those. The lunch deal is one of the best things they offer. It's so cheap for all that you get. I love this place, and it's always great to support a local family run business!!

Moo Shu Combination
Jessica B.

Ordering and pickup was easy. The Combination Moo Shu is really, really good. Easily the best moo shu pancakes I've had anywhere. They were large and flexible. Even after refrigerating the leftovers, the pancakes were still pliable the next day instead of hard and brittle. I also ordered the sesame chicken and it was just okay. I had ordered something from here years ago - probably general tsos or something similar and didn't like it. I hadn't been back again until recently. So, while everything on the menu might not be great, I'll definitely be coming back here for the Moo Shu and for the authentic spicy mustard.

Decent fast Chinese food. Egg rolls and general's chicken both had the same taste of old cooking oil.

Just average food. There are better places to eat. But eat here if you want a lot of mediocre faux Chinese food. Sorry to say.

New Chinatown ended up being such a good find, and I'm honestly surprised I hadn't tried it sooner!…read moreWe had General Tso's, Beef with mushrooms, egg roll, crab rangoons, and chicken fried rice as the rice choice, and almost everything was banging. The General Tso's had no spice, which was totally fine because the flavor was still great. The chicken fried rice was amazing and honestly deserves its own little shoutout. If you don't get anything else I'd recommend that and a crab rangoon! The mushrooms in the beef with mushrooms were great too because, let's be real, mushrooms don't need to do a ton to be delicious! My only small feedback was that the beef itself was a little bland, but a splash of soy sauce fixed it right up and I would say that is my only speedbump here. The crab rangoons though? Lets talk about that real quick. New favorite in town. They're made a little differently than the usual ones I see everywhere else, and I am obsessed. They're extra crispy and have a nice filling. Inside has a few tables, so it's more minimal seating than a full sit-down restaurant, but it was insanely clean and honestly looked brand new. Parking is in a strip mall, so there is some parking available, but limited exclusive parking right in front. I was surprised when they said they've been around since 1999. It looks like they just moved in. I'm so glad I found them because this is definitely going into my regular rotation. They also have super affordable lunch specials. We only spent about $20 for everything, and for the amount of food we got, that felt like such a good deal. I have two meals out of the portion.

I needed a break from holiday food so I decided to stop by for some takeout. I ordered online…read morewithout issue and headed that way. It took them a little longer than I was quoted but it wasn't too much longer. The interior was very small with a capacity of 10. They do have a table but that's pretty much it. I would plan on taking it to go just due to space. Everyone was friendly and they made sure my order was correct when it was completed. I went with the beef and broccoli dinner combo. You get either white or fried rice. I went with fried. And it comes with an egg roll and a crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon was large and had a sweet flavor to it. FYI: They use imitation crab for my friends with shellfish allergies. I also ordered an additional order of Rangoon and I wasn't disappointed with that decision. I think the egg roll was just a veggie one, they do have a pork and chicken option. It was fine but I preferred the Rangoon. I would try the other egg roll options in the future. I also added on a hot mustard sauce. That's a must. It's spicy. The beef and broccoli was really good. The broccoli was fresh and there were a few carrots. The beef was tender and without that weird fatty, gristly stuff. Definitely good quality. The fried rice was a bit plain. It's literally just fried rice, no veggies or egg. But it's also not at an up charge so I can't really complain. I also ordered egg drop soup. It's delicious and such a good value. I highly recommend it. I definitely plan on returning to try a few other menu options.

Grew up in a different burb of KC and have been struggling to find the nostalgic Chinese food I grew up on. Well, China Chef nailed it. I can finally settle in as a Johnson county gal (my Jackson county bones cringe only slightly). We went safe. Egg drop soup, rangoons, beef and chicken fried rice. Ordered online at 545 and the site told me it would be ready by 745. Should've been a sign that they were moving some VOLUME. Get there at 8. Wasn't going to be ready til 820. What appeared to be the whole family was slinging deliciousness the whole wait. Lobby full of patrons. Notice the 5 star review despite the delay. I assume this is a Christmas night fluke. Portions are more than generous, real chicken (not the weird cheap rubbery stuff), umami on point. Excited to come back for a regular week night and branch out on our ordering!

I usually come here for dim sum, and it is upsetting for me to say that my husband and I should've chose somewhere else to eat for dinner. For dinner, we ordered fried rice and chow fun. Those two main entrées were okay. You can't really mess up those two fillers at an Asian restaurant. We ordered scallion pancakes- they came out soggy and soft. Not even crispy like how they usually are. The flavor wasn't there either. If I wanted microwaved scallion pancakes, then I would've bought them from the store and made them myself. My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. It had a funky taste to it that he couldn't describe and he had to force himself to swallow it because he didn't want food to go to waste. I ordered the chicken feet- this is one of dim sum's signature dishes and I am so upset I didn't even get to enjoy one of the dishes I always order. It was dry and the flavor wasn't there. The service was fantastic. They checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The timing of the food coming in and out was fine. The ambiance was inviting. There was a sense of urgency and I appreciated that.
