I needed a break from holiday food so I decided to stop by for some takeout. I ordered online without issue and headed that way. It took them a little longer than I was quoted but it wasn't too much longer. The interior was very small with a capacity of 10. They do have a table but that's pretty much it. I would plan on taking it to go just due to space. Everyone was friendly and they made sure my order was correct when it was completed. I went with the beef and broccoli dinner combo. You get either white or fried rice. I went with fried. And it comes with an egg roll and a crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon was large and had a sweet flavor to it. FYI: They use imitation crab for my friends with shellfish allergies. I also ordered an additional order of Rangoon and I wasn't disappointed with that decision. I think the egg roll was just a veggie one, they do have a pork and chicken option. It was fine but I preferred the Rangoon. I would try the other egg roll options in the future. I also added on a hot mustard sauce. That's a must. It's spicy. The beef and broccoli was really good. The broccoli was fresh and there were a few carrots. The beef was tender and without that weird fatty, gristly stuff. Definitely good quality. The fried rice was a bit plain. It's literally just fried rice, no veggies or egg. But it's also not at an up charge so I can't really complain. I also ordered egg drop soup. It's delicious and such a good value. I highly recommend it. I definitely plan on returning to try a few other menu options. read more

This is what I've been searching for, seriously. I'm writing this review on Christmas night--and I celebrate Christmas. First time we've tried this place. Grew up in a different burb of KC and have been struggling to find the nostalgic Chinese food I grew up on. Well, China Chef nailed it. I can finally settle in as a Johnson county gal (my Jackson county bones cringe only slightly). We went safe. Egg drop soup, rangoons, beef and chicken fried rice. Ordered online at 545 and the site told me it would be ready by 745. Should've been a sign that they were moving some VOLUME. Get there at 8. Wasn't going to be ready til 820. What appeared to be the whole family was slinging deliciousness the whole wait. Lobby full of patrons. Notice the 5 star review despite the delay. I assume this is a Christmas night fluke. Portions are more than generous, real chicken (not the weird cheap rubbery stuff), umami on point. Excited to come back for a regular week night and branch out on our ordering! read more

Two of us ordered lunch specials: I got the Beef with Mushrooms and my partner got the General Tso's. Both were a great deal for the price, good sized portions, and they come with a cup of soup too. My beef with mushrooms had insane flavor and I will be back asap for more. The fried rice was pretty good for a lunch special and the white rice is so fluffy! General Tso's has a decent kick, so be careful if you're more of a mild General Tso's person. Only downsides: the takeout bag had stuff leaking everywhere, and the egg rolls got soggy from steaming in the container. Also would've loved the crispy noodles for the soup. Dine-in is super limited (one table), but they do have chairs if you're waiting on a pickup. Parking was surprisingly easy: instead of pulling straight off the busy main road, you turn onto the side street and enter the lot from there, so you don't have to panic trying to cut into traffic. I was impressed with my dine-in visit at this new restaurant. My chicken with mixed vegetables lunch included egg roll or crab rangoon with choice of soup, and was reasonably priced at $6.25. The portions were generous, there was a good amount of tasty white chicken, a good variety of vegetables, a brown sauce that was flavorful without being overpowering or salty, and especially delicious fried rice, which was flavorful and very moist, with bits of fried egg - mmm! The service at the counter was welcoming, efficient, and fast (soup served in two minutes and entrée served four minutes later) with a genuine interest in making sure everything was satisfactory. Was drawn by the positive reviews and high rating, but was disappointed--mostly because of how it made both my wife and me feel sick after. Taste was ok, though the crab rangoon were truly terrible. Chewy and flavorless, some of the worst I've ever had. The chicken dishes we got tasted pretty good and had good flavor, but we felt terrible the rest of the night. I tried some leftovers for lunch the next day, just in case (sans crab rangoon), and felts bad again afterwards. read more

The best quick Chinese place in town. Perfect for to go orders. Everything is spot on, hot, well priced and flavorful. The jumbo shrimp dishes and the fried rice stand out, and their chili oil is actually made in house and is hot! My only complaint is that they should price out all of their shrimp dishes, for the jumbo shrimp as well (the jumbo shrimp menu is smaller). read more

BEST place to get a Chinese meal! Lunch special is great but I love the dinner combos and it's a goal to try them all. I have never had a bad experience, and the one time they forgot my crab Rangoon (due to being SO busy) they immediately called me and gave me a lot extra the next time I came back. We ordered through one of the delivery apps. I got Dragon and Phoenix, a pu pu platter and Cashew Chicken for Mom. It was TOASTY HOT when it arrived, but we do live fairly close to the place. My Dragon and Phoenix was pretty normal. It was good and it was a good portion, just it was standard, what you expect. Spicey but not overly spicey. The pu pu platter was a good way to try a few of their appetizer items. I didn't find their crab rangoon to be all that great. It was rather plain and I like to have a bit more flavor in the filling; these were mostly just cream cheese. The chicken wing and chicken skewers were good. The HUGE fried shrimp were yummy and the egg rolls were fine (I'm not a huge fan of egg roll, so don't take my lack of enthusiasm as a criticism.) The cashew chicken had zucchini in it. Maybe it said that on the menu, but that was disappointing as I really hate zucchini even if my mom says it doesn't have any flavor. The vegetables seemed overcooked (maybe continued cooking while in transit) and it was just a little bland. It was edible, but just not exciting enough to make me want to order it again. read more

I order from China Chef regularly - usually once or twice a week. The food is always delivered fast, fresh, and correctly. The quality is really high and the pricing is a great value. Ordered from here multiple times, the delivery is always hot and on the dot for when it's supposed to arrive. Not to mention the amazing food! You can go to other places, but nowhere is quite like this one! To top it all off when you enter the store you know they mean business. I am highly upset that I didn't get any pictures of this delicious food, but when I first tried a piece of the Teriyaki Chicken, I couldn't wait to dig in! Id like to start by saying that I've tried a lot of Chinese restaurants since Ive moved here, and none of them have satisfied my taste buds as much as this place has. I am definitely willing to drive 20+ minutes just to eat here. I had the teriyaki chicken and chow mein, and it was fantastic! Very friendly, fresh, well packaged meals. I have ordered 4 times and I think I'll have to try somewhere else. This time ordered 4 different dishes plus two soups. Two entries were supposed to be hot and one was basic beef with broccoli, they all tasted so similarly and all three were way too sweet but none were sweet sauce (no orange chicken or anything like that). Just gross sticky sugar which isn't what should be with tofu (mapow should be chili not sweet) and black pepper chicken. Why would these taste alike!?!? It wasn't over greasy so that's good but just not tasty. We ate enough and just threw it out. Wish someone could tell me a great Chinese place nearby! read more

I've seen a few restaurants come and go in this spot but I really hope China Chef is here to stay. Great food, great prices, and so much more I need to try. Other than the "classics" of Chinese cuisine in America, I would highly recommend the Dragon and Phoenix dish. It's half General Tso and half spicy shrimp with veggies. Super good!
