This is my go to Chinese place in Raytown. Food is consistently delicious. My favorite is the Empress Chicken. Their crab ragoons and egg drop soup are also amazing. The staff are always super friendly. They also get a bonus for having a drive through! The other day we had a large order for about 7 people and it went so smoothly. Ordered food to go from the drive thru. Took about 7 minutes to get our food so not bad. It seemed like it was all fresh, but that's impossible... do NOT get fried rice here... it's not like regular fried rice. It's like brown sticky rice with no veggies in it... and it's kinda mushy. Ordered delivery last night and had specifically asked in all caps NO SHRIMP! Sure enough I didn't notice and ate my lo mein and found shrimp in it.. reckless consideration of someone's allergies can end up with someone hospitalized or dead. Completely unacceptable. I've eaten here several times, and I'm updating this by removing a star...the reason is, each time I order cashew chicken, it seems there are only 2 pieces of cashews in the entree. Yes, I have counted them. The first time I ordered cashew chicken, there were plenty of tasty cashews, visible. Yesterday, there were 2. Maybe they were at the end of the can. So, cashew chicken's been a favorite of mine. But the last three times I ordered, each time, there were less cashews, and yesterday was the last time I'll order it. They don't add many almonds to the almond chicken, either. And they have consistently forgotten the sweet and sour sauce for the crab rangoon, when ordered separately. They also often forget napkins. Granted, I'm normally taking it home, but what if I weren't? The food itself, is solid, and okay, but the inconsistent service is not. There are a couple of other inexpensive drive through Chinese places in this area, and I am going to try one of those places....counting the cashews, ofcourse. read more

Love me some Shanghai Express! The owners are so nice! This is a true gem in a wasteland for good, locally owned restaurants in Raytown. Also one of the most consistent restaurants I have ever frequented! There is always a bit of a wait for your order because the food is ALWAYS cooked fresh! It comes out piping HOT and absolutely worth the wait! And the price is right! My family loves their hot and sour soup and fried dumplings for starters! Their crab rangoon and egg rolls are fire! My dad rarely deviates from ordering the moo shu pork with duck sauce. Mom likes the Triple Delight - tender steak, succulent chicken and jumbo shrimp in a rich brown sauce with lots of fresh veggies! I ordered a sweet and sour chicken entree, which is served with fried rice and 1 crab rangoon. I am extremely disappointed. This place was actually pretty tasty. I'm not a big fan of Chinese but I enjoyed this food. We got, shrimp fried rice, shrimp Lo mein, combination fried rice and crab Rangoon. I only eat the shrimp but hubby said the other meat items were good. I love crab Rangoon and these were very good. We had our granddaughter and she had to potty it was out back and was a bit scary just go before u get there. We drive through here a few times a month to help with busy nights and not having to cook. They offer a wide array of choices on the menu. Huge fan of their fried rice and sesame chicken. Orange chicken also very tasty . Prices are very reasonable. Dining inside is not the best experience but its an old converted taco ball what do you expect ? read more
