Some of the best Americanized Chinese food around =) Hands down the best CRAB RAGOON I've ever had any where. I usually get the lunch special: shrimp with vegetables (comes in a white sauce but if you want brown they will change it to that if you ask). It's pretty good, it doesn't make you feel weighed down for the rest of the day. The lunch comes with soup (I get egg drop which is okay) and either an egg roll or a crab ragoon. The portions are a good size. The person who takes the orders has a thick accent so it can be very difficult to understand him. However, he is very nice and will repeat as necessary. This is not really an eat-in place even though there are tables. It's pretty skanky on the inside and outside. They do deliver but I believe you have to have at least a $20 order before they will deliver. Maybe I caught them on a bad night but don't waste your money. The food is more seasoned at Panda Express as opposed to here. The sauce was terrible, the meat was not seasoned, and the rice was hard. I've been ordering Chinese food from here for years. Lately the general's chicken is just too hard to chew. I switched to Orange chicken and it was really just the same as General's. Could have been the same thing. So any way I decided to cut each piece apart, cause really unchewable like General's. All it is, is deep fried battered coating with lots of sauce!!! No chicken!! Now I know why it was not good and not chewable! Batter and sauce! $33.00 for dinner and tip! The two egg rolls were good dipped in the Orange (chicken) sauce with their sticky white rice! I never eat the white rice as from times past from other restaurants it was never good but theirs sure was. I ordered chicken low mein for my son and he always loves it. I will just have to find something different to order. Everything else is always excellent just not General's or Orange (chicken) cause that hard mess is nothing but hard batter with sauce on it. This has to be THE WORST Chinese food I have ever tried in my life. I ordered chicken broccoli with fried rice. I get home and open my food and noticed how pale and soggy this looked. I gave it a try despite it looking funky and instantly threw it back up. I have never seen chicken broccoli mixed with semen. Please save yourself the time and money. It's not the best I've had in town, but it's also still quite good. The rice is fresh and sticky, unlike the crispy dried rice I've experienced at other restaurants. The Crab Rangoons are again, not the best I've ever had, definitely sparing on the imitation crab, and using spices to compensate, but dip them in sweet and sour sauce and they're great! The lemon chicken is alright, and again, not the best I've ever had, but at-least it's not chicken-flavored bread like I've had at some restaurants. Over all, pricing is a bit high for the quality, and I feel like they have some areas to improve. I am new to the area and have tried three local Chinese restaurants, so far, and this one is currently ranked my second, but it would be a close second if not for the slightly high pricing. As far as I'm concerned, I would order again, but not if my favorite store was open. read more

I hate to do this but I must let the city of Independence know. I picked up my order instead of having it delivered. When I stepped inside & took a deep breath I expected to smell Chinese food. However all I could smell is old 70's restaurant. It has a weird musty smell. It's almost suffocating. And yes, as a previous reviewer stated, they do store their supplies in the dining area and the furniture is not arranged in any order - I think this is a bad thing. This is a sign that no one ever eats on location or they wouldn't store their giant bags of rice in the middle of the dining area. After I arrived home and got all situated for dinner all I could taste was the musty, old dining area. None of the food tasted okay. My husband had a few bites of noodles but also tasted something off. We ended up throwing away most of the food. Sorry, I can't bring myself to ordering from Wang's Mandarin House again. Go see for yourself and pick up your order. Notice how there is a distinct lack of scent from food being cooked. Good thing its just a Chinese food place. Independence has tons of these and we found another place for our fix. read more

This is the second time I've gotten carryout food here that wasn't worth taking home. I spent $19 for Cashew Chicken, Mandarin Chicken Wings, and Chinese Vegetables. None of it even came close to tasting good. The Mandarin Chicken Wings were full wings, not the little drumettes most places serve, big & meaty, but flavorless. They had some sort of red-orange dye on them, but were completely bland. There was a nice variety of Chinese Vegetables, but they were absolutely flavorless as well - not even salted, with a really thin whitish sauce that tasted like water with a tiny bit of cornstarch in it. These veggies desperately needed something to give them a bit of flavor. I tried soy sauce, but it wasn't enough. The Cashew Chicken had a nice pinch of cashews on top, but there was so much celery in it that celery was all you could taste. Even the egg roll wasn't any good. As near as I can tell, this place has two cooks, one that knows what he's doing, and one that doesn't give a darn. Previously I've taken home Mu Shu Pork and Shrimp Egg Fu Yung from this place that were delicious. But I've also taken home Egg Drop Soup from here that was so watery I flushed it and Egg Rolls that tasted like styrofoam. How can you mess us Egg Drop Soup and Egg Rolls? I tried this place today in the hope that I'd catch them on a good day, because the place I usually go to was closed. I don't think I'll be trying them again. Big waste of money! read more

While visiting Independence MO we wanted to go out to eat Chinese food. Hubby picked this place and it was not exactly what we thought it would be. This place is more of a pick up and take home place. yes we stayed and at at the one table available (the other was occupied by staff prepping veggies) and it was a little awkward. But we got a great deal on lunch. When we first got it the serving looked rather small BUT once we started to dig in we realized looks were deciding it was actually a rather large portion, or at least more than it appeared to be. Our lunch special came with egg rolls, fried wontons, and egg drop soup.... although the egg drop soup was really gross and i refused to eat it after one spoonful (hubby ate his) I will say the egg roll was really good. Also the rest of our meal was really good, I got the beef broccoli and he got the pork chow mein. Both were very tasty. I cant say i would go back... after all we were looking for a place to go and have our meal at.... but if i was a local and wanted to grab dinner on the way home from work...i might consider going again... just not ordering the egg drop soup read more

Ordered online midday 8/6. Crab Rangoon was great, fried wonton was over cooked but tasted ok. Hot and Sour soup had a good flavor but could have been spicier. Curry chicken had a good flavor but I ordered it medium spicy and it was barely spicy same with the Kung Pao Triple Delight, ordered Med spicy and was slightly spicy. The eggs rolls did not taste good and the wonton soup was soggy. Called just to get fresh crab rangoon but communication problems arose. Ended up driving and returning all the food.
