23. Shrimp Fried Rice and H5. Orange Chicken

I wanted to feed four and ordered a large shrimp friend rice and a large orange chicken and received lunch portions. Food is great but would not recommend for the portions.

Ming Garden just happened to be near where we were leaving when we were craving food! I wasn't too impressed with the food. We ordered the beef in garlic sauce and Szechuan chicken. Both dinner meals that came with rice and a side. The sauces were similar but slightly different. The chicken tasted rubbery almost. The fried rice was fine. The crab rangoons were least impressive - just not very good and the wonton part was soaked in oil. The hot and sour had their own interesting flavor. Overall it wasn't great. I probably wouldn't come again.

Not sure if the picture doesn't Justice but it makes me feel healthy when I eat it.

Man leaving a review here because it's necessary! I don't know if it's the munchies but this black pepper chicken without mushrooms is everything is good to be honest!

menu and register

This place may look like a whole in the wall but don't be fooled, the food is amazing and is hot and fresh every-time. The employees are friendly and work hard! The inside does have dine-in and is always clean and welcoming.

This place is the closest chinese takeout to where we live now so we thought we'd give it a try. Has seating inside, your typical takeout looking place. I gave it three stars because 1- the crab Rangoons are actually quite tasty, crunchy on the outside and slightly sweet filling on the inside, but should be called 'cream cheese Rangoon'. 2- the lunch special is reasonably priced, you get fried or white rice and either soup egg rolls or crab Rangoon's- about 2 meals worth. 3-it wasn't terrible, had flavor and food was ready fast. The meat is definitely not high quality, more breading than chicken, and my husband and I couldn't tell the difference between our dishes except for the sesame seeds on mine indicating sesame chicken :). Maybe we will try again and just get something else on the menu, prices aren't expensive so I'd give it another shot.

Quite a bit of seating for a small place

Yes, this one of those tiny places with an order counter and a few tables, but it was clean, the food was really good, and the prices were great too. We were there for lunch on Saturday. Got a couple of lunch specials: Speinfield style chicken and Black pepper chicken with an extra side of Crab Rangoon. The portions were very big for lunch. We took enough home for 2 more meals. The fried rice was good and had giant chunks of pork. The crab rangoon was freshly made. The wrappers were fluffy and crispy without being tough. It was all very tasty. There's not much else to eat in this little shopping center. I'll have no problem going back again sometime soon.

I just ordered the Curry Chicken for lunch and it was EXCELLENT. Perfect portion and perfect amount of spice. Delicious flavor. This will be my go to for Curry Chicken!

His order on the left and mine on the right.

The fried rice was also delicious and a great portion size. One thing that really stood out was the amount of seating. They've done an excellent job keeping the old aesthetic while making it still look fresh and new. The restaurant was so cool but oddly not one other patron in the space. My partners second visit and her second time with a fairly empty restaurant. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's an excellent space but possibly more of a to go spot despite the beautiful restaurant space. The menu is fairly trim but has flavors of east Asia and south eastern Asia. So pho, Chinese and I believe they had some Thai. The food was very good, our egg roll was perfectly crispy and my entree Mongolian beef was delicious. Lots and lots of veggies which is a great surprise for Chinese dishes. I'll definitely be back to try the beef and broccoli soon!

This is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in the whole KC metro area!! It is one of those…read moreplaces which me and my husband keep coming back to and we absolutely love the food here. We have tried quite a few dishes and so far all were packed with a lot of flavor!! The egg rolls - super crispy, fried right and delicious. The salt and pepper fish - this one is by far my favorite dish out of all. They had a wonderful crispy coating and were tossed with fresh peppers and the right amount of seasoning. The treasures chicken, beef and shrimp hot pot was hearty and so comforting with tender meat and tasty broth. The Mongolian beef, chicken, and shrimp - was really well-made as well with tender pieces of meat and savory sauce and all these three dishes above married well with the hot, steamed rice that they served with it. I also tried the seafood noodle dish with the white sauce, which had shrimp, fish, mushroom, vegetable noodles, and egg. This one was pretty unique and one of the highlights. It was gooey chewy and all the ingredients tasted well together in a light savory white sauce. This particular one was so comforting that I kept going back to this one for another bite. I love that this restaurant has a lot more dishes to offer and that their portion sizes are huge. The pricing is very reasonable as per the portions with most of the entrees in the range of $16 - $18 with seafood costing a little more. The service has always been very friendly but be sure to dine in way before closing time or the staff might tell you to take a to-go 30-45 mins before closing. Otherwise the restaurant has a very casual relaxed feel to enjoy with family and friends. I still have so much left to try but based on everything I've had so far I definitely recommend Hong Kong star to all Chinese food lovers!!

Family-style is the best way to go about eating here!

Firstly: The food is obviously great. We got eggdrop soup, crab Rangoon, chicken yellow curry and general tsos. Each Entree was about $16 but it is served family style with steamed rice (cooked perfectly) so you get PLENTY of food. And the taste was fantastic. The service was timely and also outstanding. The people working the front are incredibly kind and considerate. Our drinks never even RISKED running dry and the gentleman that helped us wanted to make sure we left happy, even offering some more rice to fill out our to go boxes. The restaurant itself is homey. It has some clutter and imperfections but only in the way we all know the best hidden gems are. The place feels like you are being fed by family friends. Next time we go, we are trying the couples tasting menu for sure!

I can't wait to go back again and try now that they have a larger menu! The service was lightning quick. On a Thursday night, our order was ready in 10-15 mins! The employees were also so nice and polite inside when we picked up. The space is super clean, and I love that they have kiosks for ordering so you can spend some time browsing and not awkwardly have an employee watch you struggle to decide what to eat! It's a little small inside, but I think the point is to be mostly for takeout.
