Pretty good! This was a cute little coffee shop tucked away in Downey with no signage. Came in on a Saturday late morning and all the seats were full. It was a warm day so it was a bit hot in the cafe. The menu is pretty simple! I ordered a Blueberry Matcha and a Houjicha Latte. The Matcha latte was okay, but the Houjicha Latte was REALLY GOOD. The blueberry matcha wasn't bad overall. The blueberry flavor was more of a natural blueberry flavor instead of blueberry flavoring/syrup. The blueberries were also a little sour in the drink so I think it would've been better if the blueberries were sweeter. The matcha was also slightly bitter. Depending on your preferences and if you enjoy things a little tart, this matcha might be for you! The Houjicha Latte was the standout! The houjicha was flavorful, balanced, and also nutty/earthy. I don't live in Downey but I know it doesn't have much of a coffee scene. But it is nice for this rare specialty coffee shop to pop up in the recent months. The shop has a clean, semi aesthetically pleasing that's simple without feeling sterile. It's a smaller space, but it feels welcoming and has a nice neighborhood vibe that makes you want to stay for a while. The staff were friendly from the moment I walked in, and you can tell they genuinely care about the experience. I ordered vanilla latte that uses Madagascar vanilla and it was excellent. There is no sign outside so it is easy to miss at first glace. They have a free parking lot available in this shopping center. Great place to go work. However, they only have 6 tables. When I went they were constantly busy. The tables would fill up almost immediately after somebody left. They are quite busy. People would not stop coming in during the time I was there. Pretty much everywhere ive had a blueberry matcha, they put a laughable amount so you basically just get a matcha with like a single blue berry lol or barely any blueberry flavoring that you cant really taste it. I need this more than ever in my life right now. The coffee is great. I get a hot oat milk latte. It's strong to where the coffee comes through more than the milk just how I like it and the temperature is perfect. I despise when I am served a piping hot coffee, this happens a lot when I go to Tropicana. I wished they were able to warm up croissants. A nice warm chocolate croissant would go well with my coffee, but that's okay. It would probably take up to much time and having my coffee in a timely manner is much more crucial. read more

I had a business event nearby and I wanted to drive to the area before traffic, so I decided to come to Bums Coffee to be productive and avoid traffic. At the time of my visit they must be pretty new because there was no signage and I circled the plaza a few times looking for them. There is ample parking. I came in at opening and I was impressed by how quickly staff worked through the line and the orders. I had the Matcha Latte ($7) and an Everything Croissant ($5.50). I was sad they did not have a toaster for the pastries. I recommend the business attains a toaster oven if they plan on serving pastries. The cold everything croissant was not as good as it could be at room temperature. It was good I came early because I was able to get a good table. They have a lot of seating but it was filled quickly. It was interesting how there was so many people hanging around on a weekday morning. Also while I was waiting for my drink, I went to the bathroom to check on my make up... No mirror! Dang! I guess they don't want people taking up bathroom time checking themselves out. I would say the only knock I'd give them is that they don't advertise their prices on their menu. Their charges for what we ordered came out to be $6.50 foot a mocha latte and $7 foot a strawberry matcha. Average pricing in today's coffee shops. I have been coming to Bums Coffee consistently over the past two months, and it has become one of my regular spots. I have basically made it my unofficial mission to work through a large portion of the menu. That has included hot and iced plain lattes, vanilla and honey lattes, americanos, Spanish lattes, iced maple cinnamon, hot maple cinnamon, and their mocha, along with one of their smaller latte options. At this point it feels less like ordering coffee and more like a caffeine fueled tour of the menu with no clear end date. Across the board, everything has been consistently excellent, balanced, smooth, and clearly made with attention to detail. What stands out just as much as the drinks is the consistency. No matter what I order or when I go in, the quality does not vary. The staff also adds a lot to the experience. They are consistently kind, welcoming, and easygoing, which sets the tone for the whole space and makes it feel genuinely comfortable rather than transactional. One of the clearest examples of the atmosphere is that my daughter and I have played chess here. It is the kind of place where you can slow down, sit for a while, and actually enjoy being there without feeling rushed or out of place. That experience really captures the energy of the coffee shop more than anything else. Downey is starved for local coffee spots that aren't chains so I was super stoked when I found out this place had opened and was eager to give them a try. That was about a month ago and I've already been here several times so needless to say they won me over quickly! I've been ordering the Spanish latte which is delicious, but most recently decided to try the maple cinnamon latte and it is also very good. If I had to give some notes I will admit seeing more decor in the space would be very welcome, but given the short length of time they've been open it's not a big deal. Ok drinks. It took two visits, though, which I think was because of its very strange soft opening. I'm surprised they still don't have signage, despite being open months? Other spots have opened/soft opened nearby, and they do. As for the matcha -- first visit, my drink was grainy, because I don't think they sifted the Rocky's. But my second visit--they definitely did, because the matcha wasn't pilled at the bottom anymore. I got it sweetened with honey, which I prefer over their vanilla or agave.
