Omg...everyone must try the Hotteok!!! (Pronounced Hot-tuk).... This is literally one of tastiest sweet guilty treats I've ever had. It reminds me of deep fried chewy mochi donut pancakes dipped in a little chocolate and light syrup--it's so unique and I'm surprised it's considered a "street food" in Korea. This is rarely available and we got extremely lucky Bulgogi & Ramen opened up just 4 minutes away from us. My family and I also loved the fried chicken dumplings. The portion is humongous and enough to share with at least 4 people. The elderly woman with super powers who works there (she was on her own when I visited for the first time) is very sweet and generous. She felt bad that the restaurant was out of beef and some other items I wanted to try, so she gave me some samples to try while I waited. She's like the mom and grandmother anyone would be lucky to have! This food kiosk is located inside the rustic Vail Headquarters food court next to Kohl's. It's such a cool, trendy spot that hip college kids would love so I'm surprised that it's not as busy, but we will definitely be back!!! read more

It wasn't quick small talk but more like someone who cared. I was not expecting the portions. They were huge! This is located inside the cook house at vail HQ, inside was clean and everyone was just opening when we arrived. Family dining hall style seating. The kimchi was wonderfully made, I should have added some of the seasoning or sauces available at the counter to the broccoli, it was cooked nicely but I wanted more from it. I was looking for a new place to eat and this place caught my eye. It's very new and I love Korean food. I'd never had the cinnamon ginger drink before and I very much enjoyed it. It's sweet and kinda like apple cider with ginger that lingers in the back ground. We also ordered a banana smoothie, she made to much and gave us 2 glasses. It was on the thinner side, but very tasty and refreshing. They make their own kimchi and sides, no premixed or store bought here. The pork lunch special was delicious, slightly spicy, very flavorful and grilled perfectly, I think I'll order it spicy next time and the bibimbap was so good, and perfect with the 2 fried eggs on top. I stumbled upon this little food stall as my wedding venue was around the area. I had already had a small lunch but I saw that hotteok was on the menu!! It's so rare to see any restaurant have this on their menus nowadays so I ordered the minimum which was 2. And the owner made it from scratch!!!! She makes it from sweet rice flour so it's extra chewy and delicious. It was extremely fresh and hot! With just the right amount of sweetness in the middle. Not to mention it was huge!!! Service was horrible. I ordered the seafood soup and after 20 minutes I asked if it was ready. It seemed like she forgot and started cooking it. After 30 minutes I asked for a refund and she refused and said she's already making it and can't give a refund. It took 40 minutes and there was only one shrimp in it. Five stars for the sweet owner of this shop. Also if someone speaks Korean please clarify and support this lady... her food is delicious it just needs some tweaks. No more lunch specials - although the sign outside advertises it, no signs were inside regarding it. The owner mentioned something along the lines of costs going up which make sense for this time. The food- the spicy pork (recommended by other Yelpers, was SO SO SALTY! Swimming in sauce and oil, But if she were to cut back on the sauce amount and salt it would be perfect, the veggies added to it make the dish unique. Ask for no or light salt for your dishes!!!! If she were to reduce the salt by 50% the meal would have been PERFECTION. If she wanted to add a little pizazz she could torch the top of the meat or offer torched cheese too on her dishes . The meal would be a 12/10 if she cut back on the salt, sauce and oil. Someone please let her know that all of that was much more than anticipated for the American Palate. Which is why other people on here have been complaining. I plan to use the leftover sauce for my own Korean fried rice (: The portions gave us Enough for leftovers... but if she cut the portion size in half and charged the price for the lunch special so many people would be able to try her unique food. It would make it more accessible. The kimchi is solid. Every restaurant and every family does it their own way, so everyone has their own taste, but this kimchi was yummy. I wanted to try ALL the food here, but was worried the flavors might not last my drive home, so I got pork bulgogi and kalbi. Both were very yummy. But omg - the portions. So huge! There's so much leftover for my family of 3, we'll need another day or two to finish it. The price is expensive for lunch, but the portions (and taste) make up for it I believe. Wish I could give this place zero stars. I ordered the steamed egg, corn cheese, and hotteok. All 3 items were poorly made, only thing edible was the rice and side of kimchi. If you are expecting traditional corn cheese, be ready to be disappointed. The corn cheese came in a stone bowl like the ones tofu soup is usually in. The cheese itself tasted like krafts Mac and cheese; not the mayo/mozzarella you are typically expecting. And the corn was completely BURNT to the bowl - completely inedible. The steamed egg tasted fine but for $15 you would expect a fluffy, yellow egg. Instead, you get an egg that is deflated and grey in color. I was super excited about the hotteok because I have never found locally and it was truly disappointing. The outside was overcooked and burnt, the inside was doughy and tasted like flour. I'm Korean American and can make/buy most of the dishes this restaurant has to offer. I was hoping to find a Korean restaurant that was good for when I'm feeling lazy and I didn't want to cook. NOPE! The first time we had food from here was when my father-in-law got soybean soup. It was delicious and the family enjoyed the soup. So I went back a couple days later to grab lunch. I greeted her and ordered our meals in KOREAN. I got knife cut noodles ($16), bulgogi ($20) and 2 tofu soups ($16 each) medium spicy (one beef and one beef and shrimp). She told me it was going to take 15-20 minutes. We ended waiting for about 40 minutes. The knife cut noodles were beyond salty and my mother-in-law couldn't eat it even after she added hot water. Our tofu soup was clear and not spicy at all and prepared with the wrong type of tofu. She wrote down the order and even asked multiple times the spice level for our tofu soup. Each time I replied "Medium spicy." My sister-in-law's had clams and mussels instead of beef and shrimp. I felt that we ate soup with tofu. The tofu soup is usually the silky tofu with your choice of protein. My tofu soup had beef, cubes of tofu, onion, mushroom, and zucchini. Bulgogi is supposed to be brown (soy sauce based) and sweet with onions, but it was red (chili oil?) with lots of cabbage. Bulgogi is supposed be sliced meat, but it was chunky bits. You can go to Costco and buy and get more bulgogi there. Their bulgogi is more "Korean" (correctly marinated beef with sliced onions) than the one we ate. I paid about $75 (after tax) for salty, inedible, and incorrect made food. My in-laws went to the owner to inform her of the salty and wrong order and she was not the least bit apologetic. She just said "Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Typically Americans/Caucasians prefer more flavor (salt?)." I guess that speaking Korean to her wasn't Korean enough? She didn't offer a refund or even a partial one. The only thing she told them was "I can give you a a free drink." And "I can make you a ramen." That does not help nor solve the problem. FYI! Do not buy the cold noodle soup. She told my father-in-law that she buys the packages from the market. You can buy a 3 pack for around $12 or cheaper if it's on sale (noodles and soup) and she charges $15 for store bought noodles. Highway robbery. read more
