    Tokyo box

Decided to go check out the local food hall while in town and we opted for the bul box cause my bf loves ramen. We ordered and waited and awhile for a food gladly knowing it would be made to order. Well when I got our meal I can tell that mine had taken less time to make cause it was cold while his was steaming hot. They need to work on timing their dishes so they come out hot at the same time. Both dishes were okay but a bit on the bland side. I had to request a spoon for his soup and overall just didn't get a good vibe from the people behind the counter. Not great counter service but I won't go into all the details. Not bad but not great.

Build your Build Your Own Box with tofu

Visited Bul Box at Transfer Co. Food Hall and it was a great experience. They offer a menu of boxes or you can build your own with a base, protein, additions, sauce and toppings. I did a build your own with brown rice as a base, tofu, edamame, kale mix, maple teriyaki sauce and topped with crunchy onion. The boxes hold a large amount of food, my husband and I both could only eat maybe half of what was served. I also ordered the macaroni and cheese spring rolls out of curiosity - they were like crunchy Mac & cheese and came with dipping sauce. They also have chicken sandwiches, dumplings, loaded fries and boba tea.

Lovely staff. Lovely menu. Lovely drinks. I have no complaints. My only suggestion is for the reader to try for themselves.

    Hangover Fries

Good Korean-Japanese food in the Transfer Food Hall in downtown Raleigh. We had the Hangover Fries and the Bul Chicken Katsu sandwich. The Hangover Fries were good, but maybe almost a little too much thrown together. Or maybe you need to be nursing a hangover to really appreciate this dish. The Bul Chicken Katsu sandwich was a pretty darned good sandwich. The katsu-style chicken itself was good, the spicy bul sauce gave it some zing and the kimchi slaw really completed it. Good fries on the side. Worth giving it a try if you are in downtown Raleigh for lunch and like Japanese and/or Korean food.

I've eaten at this Bulbox location a few times. I think I prefer it to the North Hills location. The bowls seem more flavorful and there are tables to eat at. Plus, you can get free water instead of bottled water. Today I ordered the Malibu bowl with salmon. Very good!

I've eaten at a few different Bul Box locations, each time I order the poke bowl with salmon. And every time the salmon has been a little bit on the not so fresh side. It was never bad But I could just tell it wasn't extremely fresh. When eating raw seafood freshness is key! The last time I was there I even asked the girl at the cash register before ordering if the salmon was fresh and she insisted it was, but it did not taste as fresh as it should have been. If they could get that problem fixed their poke bowls would definitely be an excellent value!

Came here after hearing so many good things about this place. Unfortunately, it just did not live up to the hype. When I walked up, I was warmly greeted by the staff person. They made their recommendations and I elected to get the Bulgogi fries after hearing so much about them. As I was perusing the menu, I couldn't help but notice that they were sold out of a lot of their items and had no boba fruit teas just slushy teas which weren't enticing enough to order. While waiting I went and grabbed a drink from the food hall's bar (see my review for Transfer Food Hall for the deets). About 10-15 minutes later, my order was complete. I took it out to the patio to dine and snapped a picture. While the presentation was nice, the flavor left much to be desired. The fries themselves were of the frozen variety and nothing special to write home about in the least. They were smothered in what to my disappointment was nacho cheese and canned jalapeños then topped with beef bulgogi, Korean BBQ sauce, Parmesan, scallions and an egg. The composition of the dish was confusing to say the least as were the flavors The meat was tender but was barely warm and had little characteristic Korean flavor. The egg was under-seasoned and had no real purpose in the dish. I would not recommend BulBox. They appear to have declined in quality and wasn't worth the $10. The service was great but is irrelevant if the food is subpar. I hope they'll be able to rebound. They'll need to go stay in business.

No complaints the food and drinks were delish!! Definitely worth a try for something different. Bul Box is located in a food hall so there's plenty of other options....this was the first thing that caught my eye and I'm glad I stuck with it!!

Bul Box is almost always my go to at Transfer Food Hall. You get so. much. food! And it's amazingly delicious. This time I was adventurous and tried the bul dak box which is spicy chicken. So good! The signature boxes come with brown or white rice, grilled vegetables, veggie spring roll, green beans with a sesame sauce, cucumber tomato salad, a soy-glazed soft boiled egg, and Japanese style bacon potato salad (I'd go ninja to steal this recipe. It's that good!). Did I mention getting a lot of food? Try to go by 11:45 or you'll be in a line waiting for a bit. I was going to get one of their frozen fruit teas but the machine was still making them. I'll be back, of course.

    Spicy tan tan ramen

This was our second stop at Transfer Co Food Hall. As usual, the food hall didn't disappoint. Covid-19: you can order and pay online. The food hall was empty when I went in to pick up our food. We got the spicy tan tan ramen. I loved this dish. I'd never had a ramen dish that wasn't a soup. The ground pork was very flavorful and an egg is always a good idea. I found the lettuce to be a little weird. I think a bok choy would have worked better. It had a little spice to it, but I didn't find it very spicy. We also got a side of the kimchi pancakes which we loved. They reminded us of scallion pancakes but with kimchi. If you're coming to the food hall, I think this place is a must try.

Paid an extra 2$ for a fried egg that i didnt get, pretty sad about that, that being said the food was great. Build your own box- Fried egg(didnt get it), bulgogi beef, corn, pickled red onions, roasted veggies, bul sauce, burnt wilds sauce, sesame seeds, scallions, all on top of kimchi fried rice

    Teriyaki? Hahaha hilarious

Nope! Just nope! I will have to review further later but am here right now and ... I got 14 small pieces of chicken scattered on top of a bed of mediocre rice. Understand the person cleaning the space maybe the manager or owner but he clearly didn't even want to deal with my concerns. The first time I ordered it was completely wrong when I got the build your box. I ordered white rice, teriyaki chicken, yum yum sauce, cilantro and seeds! I have a video to go with what I am saying. Um... honey... you find more seeds in the bottom of your Burger King bag. Teriyaki? I got ginger chicken at first. Then I got "teriyaki chicken" - 14 tiny pieces (every time I look at them the pieces get smaller). Lord Jesus, fix it! Also... we all know the color of teriyaki right? Honey... if you see teriyaki, let me know. $9 is it! They can consider it the one and only order from me. Should have gotten Mama Crow's again or Dank Burrito!

Honey garlic chicken with fries $9
    Sarah K.

I ordered the honey garlic chicken with fries ($9) to-go. The food was fresh and the fries were crispy. I suggest you eat it there at the site, because fries are so much more enjoyable when it's piping hot and you get the crisp bite! The chicken was flavored Okay, but it felt a bit dried out. It's not the authentic Korean chicken if that's what anyone had in mind, but it's closer to what you'll find in a food truck version. The flavors were good, but they were all so familiar and a little weak. I still liked it and would still order it again. You give your phone number so you can get a text when it's ready. Like any good chicken place, it should take awhile for it to be ready since it's fried at the moment you order, but not beforehand.

I stopped in just a they were opening on a Friday and thank goodness I showed up when I did, this place gets packed quick and you should book a reservation to be on the safe side. I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food. The bar side looked to be more casual, the dinning room was full of high tea attire so I did feel a little under dressed, thought it would be slightly more casual. They have the cutest library with free books to read but only while you dine in. The flower and book shop are in the middle of the space. Super cute, limited options but great for a last minute bouquet!

The shrimp, beef, & chicken meal would've been okay if the beef hadn't been questionably fresh (I didn't eat any after the first bite) and the tough, overcooked shrimp. I tipped 15% because the service was terrible. Aside from the lady yelling, "It's okay?" from the kitchen, she never checked on me. Usually, I tip between 25-30%. After I paid and left the restaurant, the rude cashier followed me out to my car. Pointing to the receipt & tip, he yelled, "This is it?? %15 tip??" The only positive thing that I can say about Chuan Cafe is that the Diet Coke was good.
