Well, this is my first review, and I'm registered here from 2009! It's still says Glendale on my profile and I'm long gone from here, and just only accidentally come here, and I'm Armenian :P
How could I miss this place? even that I'm not interested in all places I was surprised, but since like it took me just a month after their renovation to accidentally stop near them :) (so not so long it seems). I am really surprised how almost all asian places here are acting on "american stereotypes", they act as if they offer only weird food and they are weird, weird service, and should never know how they make this weird food. I hope if you are not living under rock you kinda know what I'm saying:) (I know they are little expensive eat this small amount of smth for a lot of money and just get out places, but haven't seen in LA, but meh).
This place is opposite, "hidden" from "eyes" this place is just a good place. One more time after experiencing why I don't wanna come to Glendale with weird my fellow armenians attitude (even though it's not that bad and the armenian food is all I could need, it's like wth is with you ppl..).. I came to this place, after closing doors you are in a nice calm as should be japanese place, the chief with his wife I guess is there "behind countertop".. and no waitresses.. and *no* stupid pretending of smiling with "how can I help you?".. but.. there are 2 nice ladies who seem happy to welcome you as if in their house and answer all your questions about food. They bring you water that's just the right amount of cold, and not too cold. Even though I was in bicycle "gear" (backpack, gloves, etc.) and second time in hiking gear (which is same for me), i was treated just as good as could be..
Then immediately they give you small salad and small hot soup, it's so great and I was so surprised, I was almost begging in other places to give me at least small amount of salad for under 5$, correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't found such places, if I wanted to eat a lot of salad or soup I would eat at home, really, I only need small amount by side, and this place does it without questions and.. "for free" :) and then after finishing it you don't even need to wait too long and there comes your order, just the right amount (if you really "need" more and then have health issues and complain about being fat, dunno what to say, order more? smh), and so good that you don't need a soda to be able to get it inside, no stomach aches or anything, just good japanese food and then chief comes says thank you ala "I hope you like the food"..
[ you are still reading and didn't run to that place already? wait ]
2nd time I came other lady came up and I was happy that previous one still recognized and came, it was nice touch, so it was even double better 2nd time, and 2nd time she asked if I want fork and I didn't refuse but still ended up not using them and they always bring chopsticks first, also very nice touch, so it's in the middle of "learn to use chopsticks ignorant 'american'" and "I know you are 'ignorant american' so here is the fork for you instead of chopsticks" :D well you got it.. and in the end? they ask if you want ice-cream, also small amount, also good, also 'free'.
I see ppl kinda "complaining" about new version of this place, and one reviewer who didn't said he doesn't want this place become "crowded", and I think they are "rightfully" afraid that it's too nice now and more random ppl will come, and when I went there there were ppl there but still it was nice and comfortable, they bring food fast and you get satisfied so nobody is there waiting for hours or as if they've nothing better to do..
I gave more tip I've given ever and I suggest you too)
In the end I said "thank you" to nicest girl (which I never do), and shedidn't reply "ok, bye" (get out already lol), only when I was already leaving the door everybody said "thank youuu":) *love*
p.s. I have been in japanese places in colorado, where you have to wait for long time, and then you sit down without shoes, and they bring wet towels and everything, what it has to do with the experience I got here? nothing) yup read more
