I've been collecting BABs since I was born (my parents started the tradition) and over the years, I've come to know the brand inside and out. Out of all the locations I've visited, Oakbrook consistently delivered the very best experience. Scott, Joire, Precious, and the rest of the staff always went above and beyond, treating me with patience, kindness, and genuine care. They remembered me, knew my preferences, and ensured that every animal was stuffed to perfection, making each visit feel special rather than transactional. The store itself always felt exciting and fresh, with ample well stocked selections. Even though Build A Bear's pricing is more on the explosive side, the team's unmatched service made every purchase feel completely worth it. I always love coming here. Everyone is always so nice even when it gets busy. They always have a great selection on the bears or whatever they have going on. It's always so clean and spacious. I recently came to get my daughter a present for her birthday and the gentleman behind the counter was amazing. They also have a lot of clothes to choose from and you can name it afterwards. Have been to other Build A Bear workshops but today came to the Oak Brook store for my grandson's 3rd birthday and couldn't have been more disappointed ..we called ahead to make sure they were still promoting the pay your age for a Bear on your birthday and they said yes We walked in and were the only ones there and the one worker barely greeted us and when we told her we were there for a birthday bear she said go pick one out..he found a dinosaur he loved and picked it out , got it filled etc but when we went to pay she charged full price and said it was only for 1 specific Bear ..totally get it but you tell that to the 3 year old right away not to tell him to pick anyone out and then charge us full price ...we explained to her we expected to pay only the $3 she said no and we should have known that It was an absolutely awful experience and the one store clerk couldn't have been less friendly ..my grandson was so excited to go and I felt awful that they did nothing to acknowledge it was his birthday...I would not recommend this store to anyone and would warn them to stay away ..it's a place for kids and should Be such a fun experience and it was anything but!!! read more

Amazing! I wish the Build A Bear locations in LA were this convenient. I came in five minutes before closing and was helped. I stayed in the store until about 9:20PM trying to pick out the best rabbit build a bear I could find. Yup, got the rainbow bunny, hello kitty dress, pink panties, sketcher sparkle shoes to match the little one's shoes, and...roller skates! Yup. We have purchased from the Oak Brook Center location several times. Mostly it's been a very positive experience with my girls leaving very happy with their new toys. However, the new location (on the top floor of the mall) seems a lot smaller. The stuffing machine is also now right in the front of the store. It's difficult to figure out where the line actually starts to get your toy stuffed. This may be a small issue but it was definitely frustrating when we were there right after Christmas and people were just wandering around trying to find an employee who was doing the stuffing. read more

This location did an excellent job for us yesterday when we came in, a group of 10 kids. The shop was clean and organized, busy with people. Special shout out to Nicole who helped us! They do not answer the phone. I've tried multiple times and at different times of the day and no one ever answers. Poor customer service!

The employee was awful. She should not be working at build a bear. This is supposed to be a fun, magical experience. She was rude first of all, talked so softly, and did not interact with the kids at all or try to make it fun. Literally just filled the bears said "hand me a heart" and it was done. Hopefully they can find someone better or they will lose a lot of customers. read more

Aggressive up selling towards the child at this location. We've visited and purchased from several different locations, but this is the first time I was turned off by the experience. Please don't create a negative experience by trying to sell the child accessories they don't need. It only creates dissatisfaction when the parent says no and if the parents says yes, they will be so turned off by this manipulative tactic that they won't want to go back. read more

I'm just writing this review in the hopes that it helps someone else. The map for this location makes it look like the BAB is on the south side of the mall by Macy's, so that's where I parked. WRONG! It's actually directly opposite there - behind Sears. If you park near the Sears entrance where you can also see the Lane Bryant and that kids photography shop (closest to where 16th St. meets 83), walk between those stores into the mall area, and there's the BAB Workshop. read more

I had never been to a Build - A - Bear store before, and I will admit that I was slightly overwhelmed by the "BUY BUY BUY!" feeling I got when I walked in the place. My roommate and I went in to buy some bears for her god children's birthday, and we walked out with two animals and too many precious (and slightly sickening, yes) outfits. Even though it was a Sunday, the place was not too crowded. In line for the stuffing machine I think some small fries might have cut us, but they moved things along quickly that it didn't really matter much to me. The staff was very friendly but in that Disney World sterile sort of way where their words came straight from the 700 page costumer service handbook given upon hire. I overheard one of the workers say that they rip off the tag and put it in the doll in case it gets lost. Again, I am a newbie to this process so I was confused, don't you have to rip the thing open to find it? Sounded traumatizing to me. read more

Had my kid's birthday party here (seven kids total). I am not trying to bash this store, but I really want to help any other parents who are considering BAB birthday parties. First..I chose the $35/pp party package. This included any stuffed animal valued at $25 and under, and any outfit. It works out to a nice discount since most stuffed animals that kids want are at least $25, and most outfits are around $18. On the other hand, a birthday party here is essentially a sales & marketing event for BAB that you are paying for. I thought there were going to be more "party-like" activities for the kids, but our tepid party leader with low energy basically led the kids around the store to pick out their items, played one "pass the cupcake" game, then went on with the stuffing with very little ceremony. No one sang happy birthday to my kid, no one announced my kid's birthday on the speaker (as they advertise on their website), and no one got the party hats in full view on the counter (again, as advertised). No one even brought up picture opportunities with the fun BAB birthday signs behind the counter until I pointedly but politely asked. There were lots of other shoppers milling around and nothing indicated that this was a special event. The other kids did do the little heart ceremony and my kid's friends all put their extra hearts into my kid's bear (I personally find the thought of seven hearts in an animal icky but I am in the medical field). My kid also got a free plush light up cupcake, which was a nice touch, but that was it. The kicker is that my kid's stuffed animal developed a hole under its armpit TWO DAYS later. The kid had slept with it for two nights. To be fair, customer service has told me I can come by and they'll fix it for free. But apparently I could have bought a better quality bear at the dollar store. I had major savings on the total price through heavily discounted gift cards. Even so, I definitely would not do a birthday party here again. Maybe a special trip here for your birthday person, but there was too little that separated a "party" from a regular shopping trip. read more

I will be honest and say that I do appreciate the whole concept of this store. What child wouldn't want to pick out an overpriced exoskeleton of a specified character? What child wouldn't want to have the option of upgrading with a $6 beating heart to be placed inside? I ask, what child wouldn't want the billions of expensive accessories they absolutely must have to go with their exquisite "bear?" None, and that's the problem. This store entices little creatures of the world, and totally enthralled and engaged my 3 children. "Ooooh, I want this and ooooh, I want that." Mind you, this place was packed when we went inside. Dozens of parent succumbing to their children's whelms. However, we were just there to observe as I will not indulge my children with those characters. $25 for a basic bear, going up to almost $40 for specialty characters, wow. And let us not forget they cannot just take home a character only! Accessories are needed! Enh, my eldest has 2 already at home and my youngest has 1. This is only because they received them as gifts. As I mentioned, the story is a good concept and I'm positive they make a lot of money. I just don't want to be the person that contributes. (Addendum: the worker stuffing the Characters at approximately 2:50 had a ton of energy and was very engaging. He deserves a raise.) read more

Okay. You know they're out for your cash when you walk in but hey, it's for the kids....right? Brought the girls to get teddy bears made today. Well, no bears. But we did come home with one owl and a lamb. They pick out their animal and then its stuffed with a nice little ceremony to put the 'heart' into the bear before it's closed up. Then they can pick out some cute little outfits. Yes, it can get crazy and expensive, but it is fun and the girls are both sleeping with their new friends this evening. I had a Build-a-Bear party on June 15 as a bachelorette party for my bridesmaids, bridesmen, and flower girl. I wanted something less traditional (no strippers or drinking) and kid friendly because I knew my 8 year old niece would be with us. One of my bridesmaids was also coming from out of the country, so we needed something that would be quick and easily fit into our tight wedding schedule, so this worked out well. My friends felt a little silly at first because we are all in our late twenties / early thirties, but after one of them found a panda bear, she changed her mind. One of my bridesmen still felt silly, but he went with it. The rest of us all had a good time, especially my niece. I chose this location because it was close to our wedding venue and hotel, but none of us live nearby. As a result, most of my friends were late trying to find it in the mall, but the staff was extremely personable and understanding, so it didn't affect the party. I chose the most expensive package for the party, which included sounds, shoes, clothes, and a bag, but some of the adults didn't want all of the extra things. The staff member who led our party was nice enough to calculate what our costs would be under a cheaper party plan with other items added a la carte. It ended up saving us about $30, so we appreciated her extra number crunching. I want to add that I might need to buy more Build-a-Bears because so far the wishes are 2 for 2. Two members of my bridal party gave me my first bear as a gift a few years ago with the wish for a good boyfriend, and I met my husband shortly afterward. When I made my bear at the party, my wish was for good weather on our wedding day (following day). At that point the forecast had a 60% chance of rain during our photos and ceremony. It did rain that morning while we got ready, but we had completely clear skies during the photo sessions, ceremony, and during the entire reception. read more

The store has one of the best selections of clothes i have ever seen. I dressed my bear in the exact Harley Davidson shirt i wear. And if i can just say they flawlessly design the shirt to be ultra tight fit allowing Twistybob to really show off his pecks. Yummm him in that shirt its like ill have a tall glass of that if you know what i mean. The only issue i found is the hearts do not have that desirable taste i have come to expect, which makes me question why the women recomended i try it before putting it in my bear. Overall excellent store, but not the best place to meet the babes. of course the females bears do not look bad from behind. I mean they look MEREraculous. read more
