Great day to see the zoo, with cooler weather most animals were outside. Give this place a try if you are in the Wheaton area!

Every zoo can't be humongous. If you've never been to this one in Wheaton, you might be disappointed but even with it being small it's a good learning experience for kids and even adults too. Cosley Zoo is a lot different than Brookfield. One thing is that it doesn't have the same kinds of animals, but more like the ones you see daily. The zoo is pretty informative, but for many it just may not be enough. A zoo like this isn't big enough to hold the big animals. It also lacks the experts needed to care for these ones, so of course it has fewer. The animals here are ones you're more likely to often interact with. It's about $9 for adults. Kids are free. This zoo focuses on conservation and native species. A lot of animals in spite of the size of it. There's bobcats, ducks, goats, horses, and sheep among others. A lot of farm animals. This may make it seem more like a petting zoo. It's not one though, so don't touch the animals. The zoo is a pretty good size even though it's small. Great to visit it at least once before you judge it. It's not comparable to the big zoos but it's pretty good to the smaller ones that are like it. This zoo can be walked around in about an hour or so, making it one you won't spend huge amounts of time going around walking.

Great place to take your kids or just walk around. While not huge, it is a perfect spot for younger children because it isn't too overwhelming. You can feed the animals at certain times a day for only $2. Admission is free to Wheaton residents or a small fee for visitors. Come learn about local animals and enjoy a quiet walk around!

Nice "kids zoo" with a few common and some not-so-common animals. I had a hour to blow and the zoo was perfect for that. Got to see some nice stuff. The pricing is a bit out of whack if you ask me. Wheaton park district residents are free, the rest of us pay around ten bucks.

Nice little zoo. Great for kids. Not too much walking. A few exotic animals and lots of farm animals. Well maintained facility.

Great place for kids. Small enough to get through in a couple of hours. A few exotic animals. Plenty of farm animals. Staff were very friendly. Nice for a short trip and something to do with young kids. If you are in the area this is a got to place in my book.

Went for the Zoo Lights over the weekend and it was great to see animals (large pig, bunnies, frogs, llama, pony, deer, fancy ducks and birds). I wouldn't necessarily call it a Christmas Lights festival there were lights but it was very, very dark like almost unsafe. We were walking down the aisles or paths and could barely see we had to pull out our flashlights on our phones, we heard birds but didn't see any. Hot chocolate was available (no marshmallows but it's probably not safe?), I loved the gift shop and trees, wreathes are for sale. The staff is amazing and I intend to show my support and eventually get a membership. I'm pretty sure it's open all year round. Parking was free, admission is free and donations are encouraged!

My daughter and I came here during summer break. It had been on my to try list, but I usually chose Brookfield Zoo or other zoos instead. The zoo itself is very small but has a variety of farm and forest animals. Most of the animals you can see in your backyard like bunnies or raccoons. However, they also have farm animals like chickens and cows that you can see closer. They have feedings on various schedules and my daughter loved watching the chickens being fed. Some of the animals were off exhibit or inside the habitat like the lynx and fox. Also, they had a little caboose with activities for younger kids, but some of them were a little run down or broken. My daughter fed the ducks which was a win for her since she absolutely loves ducks and she loved throwing the food to them. Also, they had a miniature pony that was very cute and some people were petting. I felt it was interactive for my 2-year-old and wasn't very crowded so I felt comfortable letting her wander a bit under my watchful eye. Overall, it was nice we enjoyed our time here.

I have been meaning to check out Cosley Zoo for a while since there has been a lot of good reviews. I went with my almost 2 year old and was disappointed. It's more of a farm than a zoo. If you have been to Brookfield zoo and even Lincoln Park zoo, you won't be impressed. Some of animals they have, you can see in your backyard such as birds, raccoons, ducks and even a coyote. There are no monkeys, bears, lions, etc here. It honestly took me longer to drive here than to see the whole place. You can see all the animals in 30 minutes or less. It may be good for people as a first time zoo or babies. Kids are free and adults are $9. They have duck feeding times and it's $2 for the food.

    Crosley zoo...beautiful!

Beautiful...relaxing place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommend. Clean and freindly environment. Even made a new freind!

Love this little zoo. My kids, and now my grandkids, feel confident here. They don't get tired from traipsing in and out of buildings. It's completely accessible. I've heard the Wheaton Park District has a plan to enlarge the zoo and move the parking across Gary Avenue, a dangerous plan that takes away all the charm of the zoo. You'd think they could just make it better, but some people can only think bigger.

Best thing is there's no admission price. This makes it even more worth it for looking around once, and you can come back as often as you want if planning to come more times. Even though it's kind of small, it feels there's a lot inside and you can be here awhile. It's got an interesting history. The beginnings of the zoo started when it was established in 1915, and a birdhouse was built the next year. Over the following few years the animal collection grew. There were birds, black bears, buffalo, deer, elk, foxes, monkeys, and wolves. In 1933 the birdhouse was destroyed in a hailstorm, and the following year the Brookfield Zoo opened. They chose to refocus on native animals after this. A few years after this, mastodon bones and tusks were found in the park. These were put on display in the zoo. In 1950 a barn was built. The following years included the addition of a water wheel. Farm animals such as goats, as well as birds like swans have their exhibits around these. The more recent additions include cougars, as well as improvements to exhibits for reptiles and wolves. Also the zoo has a few resources for education. The ZooCiety has various activities and programs. Have to say it's a good zoo for the city. It's located in the middle of the park. This is particularly a good one for young children, but it's open for everyone, so it's also okay for adults or whoever.

Besides the zoo, they have a visitor center, sunken garden, veterans waterfall, etc. Inside the visitor center, they have mastodon bones along with information to read. They also have bathrooms that are clean and well kept.

The bathrooms were cleaner than most so we were super grateful for that! We loved that there were so many animals actually in their exhibits unlike other zoos we've been to. The animals were actually rolling around and running around playing so my son loved seeing them. The food is super expensive, and any souvenirs were even crazier. We wanted ice cream but various places had their machines not working, for the amount of kids and the heat it was a let down but we appreciated the zoo for being so clean and shady. Parking is $17 in the north lot and $20 in the south. There were tons of busses but still ample parking. Overall a great visit. Be sure to check your local libraries for museum and zoo passes!

It's amazing in there, and there are many cool animals. I like to look for the sloths, ant eater, different types of primates, organutangs, gibbons, and otters. The new outdoor section is incredible! They have many great animals. The downside is the zoo is very spread out and it's a lot of walking. With kids you really have to decide which half of the zoo you're going to see that day. We usually choose the side with the big cats, which is cool because the big cats are great. I especially love the clouded leopards and the leopards. But then we don't get to see the bears or penguins or giraffes because they're far away. The ferris wheel is a fun addition. The food at the zoo is okay.

To me, dunking on a small business is usually 'no bueno', but after two visits to Johansen's fall petting zoo I find myself wondering "THIS is what we paid for??" Very few things are truly free these days, and I get that, but admission to Johansen's does not fall in the realm of good value. Located along Boughton Rd in Bolingbrook, Johansen's is open during the spring/summer as a nursery and farm (April-July), during autumn as a pumpkin patch, and briefly in the winter to sell Christmas trees. On busy weekends in October, police have a lane blocked off to shepherd traffic in & out of the parking lot. On that note, parking is free, thankfully, as is walking around their pumpkin patch. I saw a review from 2017 - a mere seven years ago - that mentions admission was $13.50. It's nearly doubled since that time! $23 allows you to feed the goats, enjoy a small corn maze, hayride, a "train" (actually just a bumpy trailer pull with tiny, uncomfortable carriages), and rinky-dink mini golf. Kids have to be 42" to bounce on the myriad inflatables, however, anyone over 2yo is full price. How many 2-4 year olds have you met that are 42" tall?? Apart from Kareem Abdul Jabbar's kids, how about NONE. I'm sure Johansen's knows this, so they're screwing plenty of people with this sneaky little exploit. The pumpkin patch is nice; we found an orange specimen that was a solid 9/10, with everyone in my group agreeing it was the roundest and most picturesque gourd they'd seen in a long time. Apple cider donuts are decent and you can buy hot cider at their bake shop counter. * TL;DR * Johansen's fall festivities are cute, though you get shockingly little for the money. You'll have to pay full price for your 3-year-old, but due to height restrictions on their bouncy houses, they won't be able to go in. Adults aren't allowed on inflatables, ditto for the ponies. In fact, grown-ups will spend most of their time standing around, which I can do for free at home (or literally anywhere else). Oh, but don't despair, as you can join their fanclub for a whopping $1 off general admission! *sprays confetti* gee, thanks guys! My wife likes them because they're local, but sorry honey, I'm done-zo with Johansen's. We'll take our annual (free) picture on the hay bales, but if it's my money we're spending, next year we're making the trip to Bengtson's.
