To celebrate the incredible reading and writing progress of our students, the Lauren E. Avezzie Charitable Foundation treated 22 enthusiastic Grade 2-5 superstars from our Room 102B FaceTime Reading Class to a high-energy hour of pure joy right in their hometown. These bright kids did it all! They flew high on the trampolines, tackled the ninja obstacle course, challenged each other on the Slam Ball court, and tested their balance on the beams over the soft foam pits. They also conquered the zip lines, tire swings, ropes course, and climbing rock walls, ending the session with a spin through the arcades and massive slides. ‍ Because "it takes a village," we were absolutely thrilled to see so many Lincoln Elementary School parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles show up to cheer on our readers. Watching the families, our two dedicated teachers, and our wonderful school principal, Gina Cavallo, cheering the kids on from the sidelines and in the party room was truly heartwarming. It beautifully reminded me of this quote: "Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity." -- Eleanor Brown A massive "hats off" to the Fun City manager, Victor, and his phenomenal staff! They truly went the extra mile to ensure that our students were safely enjoying the trampolines and that their pizza party and award ceremony ran seamlessly. Fun City generously provided delicious pepperoni and cheese pizzas, water bottles, ice cream, and a $5 arcade gift card for every single student. Being on top of the bowling alley, this give kids and family extra time together (or separate if the kids go play by themselves while the parents bowl, which seems to be the case here). There are a great deal of inflatable bounce houses and one giant obstacle course, a ropes tower with a slide, rock wall, some arcade games, and a few birthday party rooms. For two kids to play for 1 1/2 hours was $24 total. Seemed like a pretty good deal considering there's no other place quite like this and it keeps the kids active and happy. It is dingy and there are quite a few broken arcade games that they just decide that they're never going to fix (I've been here a few times). You pay 25-50 cents per game or a dollar to play air hockey, basketball, or a motorcycle game. There are no tickets so you're really only playing to have fun, not win prizes. There is a coin machine (it's slow) to give you quarters for the games. During my most recent visit, the basketball machine broke on us so that was interesting. Other than the rinky dink "arcade" (which is kind of just scattered around the bounce houses), this is a fun place with plenty of room for the kids to run around.

The staff had set up my son's soon with a fun construction theme including table clothes, plates, napkins, signs on the wall and had juice and water ready to go. They checked in throughout, reminded us about pizza and cake at the right time and didn't rush anyone. Last year my son had his birthday at Tumble Jungle in Norwalk and it felt more rushed and like they wanted us out on the minute but Playhouse Fairfield gave us a great experience. My two-year-old son and I have visited this location dozens of times over the past year without a single issue. On this visit, we also happened to be the only Black family present. What happened afterward was shocking, unprofessional, and felt unmistakably discriminatory. Later that day, I received a call from someone identifying herself as the owner/manager. She claimed that it had been "reported" that my recently turned two-year-old son had: * "Shaken" a one-year-old girl * Then supposedly been "violent" toward multiple children * And later--somehow--"choked" the same child These accusations all came in a single phone call and kept changing as she spoke. Not one version was consistent with the last, and none of them matched anything that occurred during our visit. When I calmly asked her to check security footage, she said she would but immediately followed it with, "The video may not have caught anything," despite openly admitting she hadn't reviewed it. To this day, I have received zero follow-up or confirmation that any video was checked at all. I later spoke with the front-desk employee who was there during our visit. He confirmed that: * No parent voiced any complaint about my son * He personally witnessed nothing concerning * The owner/manager was not even present at the time This brings up extremely concerning questions: * How did the owner know to single out my child when no complaint was made? * Why was I immediately presumed guilty with no evidence? * Why did the supposed reporting parents never speak to me directly, which is standard in children's play spaces? * Why did the claims escalate from shaking, to multiple children, to choking--a sequence that simply does not align with a newly two-year-old's behavior or my son's history? My son has never harmed another child, and our long history at this business reflects that.
