Do you love comics? Do you love Funko pops?…read more Do you love toys? Well, if you answers yes to any of those questions, Comics and Collectibles in East Hartford, CT is a place you should probably be checking out. I was in Connecticut a few weeks back visiting family and friends when one of them took me to check this place out. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but when you walk in and head downstairs you are punched in the face by an insane amount of comics and a massive space filled with both them and everything else you could want as well. It seems this store carries new stuff while also having a huge back catalogue and even an entire edition full of complete sets for you to sift through (I ended up finding two awesome sets from Clive Barker, Night Breed and Hellraiser). The toy section here has all sorts of stuff from statues and Funko pops to vintage toys both in and out of the package. Overall, this is a top notch spot for comics and toys if you live in Connecticut. This place has an amazing inventory, a friendly staff, and even though it might be the least creative name for a comic shop I've ever seen, it's about what's inside that counts!

"Two of us riding nowhere Spending someone's hard-earned…read morepay" (Lennon and McCartney) Our "de-cluttering the house" mission continues, and today my quest took me to Two Guys Comics and Collectibles in Canton, CT with a white shopping bag in hand. Inside the bag were some Simpson's memorabilia I was looking to sell, namely (don't laugh) 50 Simpsons pogs and two empty boxes of Simpsons cereal. For the curious, they would be Bart Simpson Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch and Homer's Cinnamon Donut. I met with Carl (one of the two Two Guys), and found him to be a very nice down to earth young man. He looked at what I brought in, and did some pricing research while I looked around. Two Guys is quite the destination for pop culture nerds who can't get enough of comics, DVDs for a buck, collectible figurines (Star Wars and Marvel are popular), graphic novels, games and a treasure chest of cool stuff. One cool thing I learned was that the Two Guys are hosting a Community Day tomorrow to come in and schmooze, with free comics to kids under ten. I had done some research on what my stuff had recently sold for on-line, and then cut that number in half to approximate what I was looking for.  I was thrilled when Carl came back with the exact same number! So my first visit and transaction with Two Guys was 100% pleasurable and satisfactory. As we continue to thin out our 35+ years of accumulated stuff, I suspect I'll be returning to see those Two Guys again.

I must have driven by Dan's shop a million times until I finally stopped by back in March. I hadn't…read morecollected comic books since I was a kid and I never had enough money to be that serious about it all those years ago. So when this middle-aged dad finally ended up in the store I wasn't sure what to expect from Boom Tube Comics. I knew bits and pieces from a lot of pop culture and just my own casual interest over the years, but still, I thought trying to get back into comic books would be confusing and intimidating. I'm happy to say that it turned out to be exactly the opposite. Dan has created the kind of comic shop in Boom Tube Comics that I think every fan or collector hopes to find. From my very first visit, he made me feel welcome, never talked down to me, and was incredibly patient in explaining how comics and his store works. He's a wealth of information too, from subscriptions and FOC dates, to special series, blind bags, conventions, etc. No matter what your level of knowledge is, he meets you where you are and seems to genuinely enjoy helping people learn more about the hobby. Dan's always happy to talk about local artists, comic book history, recommend an interesting/popular book, point out books you might otherwise overlook, and even suggest trustworthy online resources if you want to learn more about collecting or comic history. You never feel rushed, pressured, or like you're asking a "dumb" question. The man has patience for miles! On top of that, Dan has a terrific sense of humor that makes every visit enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you stop in for a few books and end up spending extra time just talking comics or cracking jokes and getting sucked into whatever is piquing your interest that week. His prices are fair for key issues and incentive covers, his customer service is exceptional (Shout out to his wife Karen, appreciate all you do too!). If you're hunting for an older issue, he's happy to check his back catalog to see if he has it. Subscribers are treated like royalty, he bags and boards books, slaps a discount on for you, and goes out of his way to make sure subscribers receive the best copies. He has a lot of gratitude for his regular customers/subscribers and it really shows that he wants them to have a premium, yet still classic, comic shop experience. The shop also has an excellent selection of toys, collectibles, and nostalgic items that make browsing as much fun as shopping. This a great TOY STORE TOO! I wasn't sure about diving back into comics in some ways, but Dan made it super easy and fun. If you're a longtime collector, someone returning to the hobby like me, a complete beginner, it doesn't matter. I truly can't recommend Boom Tube Comics highly enough. It's a fantastic local shop run by someone who truly loves comics and genuinely cares about the people who walk through the door. Support our local businesses! I should've stopped at Dan's shop the very first time I drove past it, DON'T make the same mistake I did.

"Constantly asked for exceptions to store policies" is a load of crap and you know it. Don't lie, Dan. I was never anything but a loyal customer. If you want to air out grievances here on this public forum, I can gladly do so. Why don't you talk about how miserable you are and how it reflects in your customer service? A few other reviewers seem to have the same thoughts about that. When someone walks in the door it's a toss up if you'll get Harvey or Two-Face. Most of the time it's the latter. Or should we discuss how you put RFK Jr. campaign flyers in your customers' bags and then badger them about his policies? Or how a simple question about moving turns into a political debate with you? How about how you allow a gaggle of idiots to stand around your store cursing while children are present as you laugh along? And the only reason you stopped was because your wife said something to you? Would you like me to continue?

After explaining to him a few times the the INDIVIDUAL packs of Pokémon cards are $3.99 NOT the entire container holding the lot of them for that low price- he then moved on to the small items offered for sale besides comic books. So my original thought was true, but then I became hooked after perusing the Game of Thrones comic book series. And then after talking about how covid delayed the reprint of the 1982 French comic book Le Transperceneige (original content source for the 2013 movie and 2020 tv series snowpiercer) - I know I will be back when that becomes available. I also love it when other customers become involved in the discussion. It's a lovely little shop to geek out in peace!
