My focus was tested yet I managed to regain my thoughts and place our orders. One thing for certain, the meats were all juicy and tender! That MAC SLAPPED and the other sides DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I can't wait to go back and get another dose and try the Potato Salad, Moms Gumbo and the Desserts. They also make thier own Sweet Tea and Kool Aid. Well let me give you the honest opinion of each item on my plate. Cornbread was moist and warm. It was not dry nor was it overly sweet it had a nice combination of complexity in taste, texture and presentation. If I had to give it a rating, it would be 5 out of 5. Baked Beans for once was sweet and smoky. Most restaurants serve them as a clumpy mess, but these were sweet and smoky with a smooth sauce that it was mixed in. Molasses or brown sugar either one it was really good another 5 out of 5. (I could just eat the cornbread and baked beans by themselves). Macaroni and Cheese for once it was good not great but good. It wasn't overly cheesy nor was it salty and buttery. It was a nice compliment to the meal. Now the rib tips were sauced and smoked. The sauce did not overtake the smoky meat. It is a compliment to the meat. It was soft, tear off the bone type of ribs and I had a side of hot bbq sauce and it was tangy, smoky and hot. Now I did not get the greens, potato salad or any deserts or drinks so those will be a later visit. Overall well done and the customer service was exceptional. Respectful and decent and helpful. Keep up the exceptional valor that you have earned. You don't last 25 years by luck but by giving the customer what they want. Great food and exceptional service.

Honestly, the pork belly is the star and could be the best I've had in a long time considering I still live and grew up in Oakland. But Roast Eatery pork belly skin is so light and crispy, that after a few bites the tender meat and fat slowly melts in your mouth making it very enjoyable. The sweet sauce with the pork belly is new to me. it's interesting but i prefer eating it with the ginger scallion because it helps cut the richness from the pork belly. The Haianese Chicken is exceptional. Cooked perfectly to tendernism. Anyone new to chinese bbq and wondering why the chopped chicken bone is still red or pink, that's called myoglobin so don't worry it's already cooked and means that it's perfectly gently poached. Of course, always take caution, ask questions and do a little research. If you're afraid, just eat around it, but this will probably be the best and healthiest way to eat chicken if you're on a diet. Roast Duck was flavorful, tender and nicely roasted. Definitely your go to local spot if you're in the East County (Oakley, Brentwood, or Antioch). It's also on par with local favorite spots in Oakland Chinatown like Gold Medal. Service is very straight forward and quick to order. The staff are friendly. Got our order in less than 10 minutes. Overall, I will be coming here more frequently for my chinese bbq fix and quick healthy lunch. They also own the dim sum bakery next door and it's definitely a hit too!

It's the priced the same as the $14 "half" chicken, so by far the half chicken is the better value. The chicken itself was moist. It's the traditional Chinese yellow chicken, so there was not a lot of meat on it. Love ginger scallion sauce and I asked for extra, which I got. The shredded, boiled cabbage on the side was a nice thought to round out the meal. Too bad I don't like cooked cabbage... The rice in the rice plate was plain white rice and didn't seem all that fresh as parts of it were hard and clumpy. I wish there was chicken rice that went with the Hainan chicken, but I guess the rice plate here is just that...basic white rice that goes with any protein.

You really get the sense that they stand firmly by their standards and have no qualms whatsoever about making things right. The parking spots near this restaurant are usually half empty and there's typically at least one suspicious car sitting there with some odd-looking activity going on. Not the fault of "Tokyo Ramen & BBQ". I walked in, even though from the outside it looked closed. A woman followed me in (she seemed possibly homeless. Not judging, just painting a picture). When I walked in, none of the tables had ANYTHING on them. And it looked kind of like they were out of business. I saw no employees. I waited. Then, I saw a man appear from behind the counter (he had been bent over doing something and I didn't see him at first). I wanted to try the food, because the reviews seemed pretty good, but I was sensing that I might regret it if I got locked in to this situation... The lady asked, "Are you open?" And the man said, "Yes". I walked straight out and went to a different ramen place for lunch. So, I can't speak to the food quality. But the ambiance was dismal.
