This is one of theee BEST Chinese buffets in the area. They have everything from sushi to seafood to chicken tenders and french fries for the kids. I really like that they have a variety of condiments. I'm not huge on desserts but they have several different options to chose from. They also offer Military and Senior discounts. The restrooms are clean and the service is great. The food is replenished frequently and extremely fresh and tasty. We only came here because my kids were asking for Chinese Buffet. I think they are VERY understaffed. From my first plate to last, I kept seeing empty containers on the buffet table, lack of sushi, lack of cold dishes, lack of soups, my kids couldn't find garlic bread, I couldn't find fruit salad, my husband couldn't find sushi, etc. At one point there were no plates and no bowls. What can I say? I love coming to this buffet. For years now, the food has been consistently good. I don't know why it's taken so long for me to write a review. I can only surmise that I fell into a food coma before I thought about it. Anyway, this always crowded, popular buffet has ample seating that the staff manages with speed and precision, getting people in and out seamlessly, while maintaining an array of food stations so that the dishes are always fresh and hot. And what an array. The "hot" stations include a fusion of flavorful dishes, from soups to lo mein to orange chicken to Korean beef to fried chicken to my personal favorite: Mussels Dynamite. And that's just off the top of my head. Don't skip the veggies. I'm always on the lookout for their mushrooms, but I'm a fan of the extensive salad collection on the "cold" side as well. Plus, there's peel and eat shrimp. There's also a sushi station. I love the original creations, and the hand rolls are amazing. Today, upon entering Buffet Palace, my first impression was looking at the Tshirt of the restraunt greeter and reading "F#CK THE WORLD" (not censored on her shirt). After eating the substandard food in this dirty place, I stopped to pay at the cashier's station. I mentioned to the cashier that I didn't appreciate an employee, who greets and seats customers, wearing a shirt with an obscene message. Her reply was, "that's like blaming girls for wearing short skirts". In her world, I guess I'm just some out-of-touch old sexist dude who should be okay with employees with zero customer service skills who display obscene language in a family restaurant. We have been going to Buffet Palace for 20 years or so. And for the money and quality of the food, it was worth the 40-minute drive from where we live. Yet over the years, I will say the building itself has become quite run down. Last night we wanted a Chinese buffet really bad, so made the drive. They list on their website and on the window outside the restaurant, that they are open until 9:30. We got there at 9 pm. When we walked in, most of tables had chairs up, as restaurants do when they're closing. The host told us they were closing in 10 minutes. Say what?! The reason we were given is that they were going to be doing a "deep cleaning" of the restaurant. Ok, I get that, but why not wait 20 minutes, until they close. We opted to stay, as we had come so far. The food had not been refreshed in some time, which was obvious. It was the worst quality and worst tasting ever. And the whole time we were there, the wait person kept asking us if we wanted more food, and if so, that we should get up there as they'll be tearing the food down. Nothing makes for a relaxing dinner, then to be told to hurry up. For some reason, I had thought we might be offered a discount of some sort, yet no. We paid the full price, of almost $40. Was so not worth it, and I really doubt we'll be going back there anytime soon, if at all. This place is really going downhill fast, and I doubt will make it much longer. The discount is federally mandated by the military, meaning they have a minimum percentage that business HAVE to give military personnel. You'll find hits and misses at Buffet Palace's steam and chilled tables, but for ~$12 (lunch,) gripping should be reserved for snarky restaurant critics. Steer clear of the out of place, American carbo goo and you'll find a surprising array of dishes from Pacific Rim countries for a satisfying meal. Chilled salads (octopus, seaweed, ceviche) are flavorful and nutritious, stir fry dishes are good (if a bit on the sweet side) and salt and pepper crispy shrimp offers good texture. Sushi is adequate, but tends to be heavy on veggies and decorative sauces and a bit stingy on fresh, raw fish. If you want fried dishes, it's a good idea to keep an eye out for waitstaff delivering it straight from the kitchen. Fried foods do not improve by stagnating at a steam table. Deserts are mostly what you will find at any low priced American buffet: five different colors of jello, mass produced cookies and overly sweet cakes, pies and puddings. Food here is amazing! There's even a sizable selection for vegetarian people. I was surprised to find Korean barbecue ribs! It's reasonably priced and there's a ton of great food. They have a fantastic selection of Korean side dishes including their raw blue crab, which I adore. This is a good buffet. Good buffets are hard to find. I've been here a few times now, last time was with my husband and son before heading across the street to see a movie. As far as I can remember I liked everything I tried. Good variety of sushi and classic dishes. They even have quite the salad bar. Bigger than typical dessert selection. Initially I wanted to give this place 5 stars however due to the horrible service I took away 1 star. I been here for about 45min. The food was delicious, I tried every dish. During that time my plates have not been cleaned and my drinks have not been refilled. I saw my server once and that's cuz I had to flag her down for some napkins which she never gave to me in the first place. When I asked she gave me literally THREE napkins. Mind you I am with my child and husband. Aside from the shitty service the dishes here were more of quality over quantity. I've never been to a buffet where they actually gave veggies in their egg drop soup. They have unique dishes and their Korean BBQ is so tasty and very flavorful!! This is indeed a mix of American-Asian food: Chinese stir-fried dishes, Korean salads, sushi and common desserts. Don't expect any of these to be authentic. OK, so after my initial review I was contacted by the manager via Yelp and was told that they do not serve the Spicy Chicken soup on the weekends. So let me share this: I no longer live in South Austin, I had called in ahead to see if they serve this soup - the man on the phone left and came back and said they had it there. The soup had a tag on it reading it was Spicy Chicken soup but the manager just confirmed the reason I did not see any chicken in this soup but tofu was because - they do not serve it on the weekends and it was seafood soup! Did I mention this was my birthday meal? So, yeah - I drove over an hour to get this soup which I confirmed on the phone was being served when it turns out that it was not the soup as labeled and the person who I spoke with on the phone was not honest or did not see Tofu instead of Chicken.... Simply the best Asian buffet in the Austin area. In fact, we drive down south from Round Rock to eat here over the piss poor buffet we have up here, who's name I will not mention. A few of the highlights for me are the galbi, spicy seafood soup, and they have the BEST eggrolls. I also like they have miso paste and a few other condiments on the cold bar that you usually don't find at an Asian buffet. The sushi is good, but not great. I always have a few pieces. The food is awesome. I could not believe this. I literally ate all of their seafood and deserts. One thing I will say they can improve on is, maybe they can have bigger crab legs. They were really small and yes they did have a lot to meet but it was Harder to open them because on how small they are. But yeah. I loved that they had peach cobbler, and it was so good. Was better 2nd time around, cuz the food of course but cuz ur more familiar with what all they've got. Our whole fam loves the little seafood things that come in the foil cup thing. Hubs loves whatever they have that's bbq'd. Tempura veg and the pancake things... very yum. We found ourselves in a Chinese pig-out mood and the plan was to ravage a north side buffet. If you own a Chinese buffet, the lesson of the day is don't use unappetizing food photos on your website, because potential customers will drive way down south to Buffet Palace. I almost knocked a star off because the sequence of dishes was rearranged in the chilled shrimp and salad section--everything was still there, just in a different order. Since I follow a carefully calculated logic at the buffet lines I frequent, you have no idea how annoying changes are. To be fair, my OCD complex is not the issue here, even though I'm right. There appeared to be less of the sushi-type things available, but that doesn't affect me at all. Our waitperson was quick, attentive, and a round-eye: I recall a critique that the waitstaff here are not of genuine Chinese ethnicity; seriously, WTF difference could that possibly make at a buffet? I left the dude five bucks. He was grateful. Let's reiterate: Make your business website the best it can be. Make your $7.50 lunch buffet the best it can be. People will come. Buffet Palace is great! I have been here probably 5 times or so and have been pleasantly surprised by the food each time and impressed by the service. I love the sushi roll bar they have. There are always 5-8 or so different rolls to choose from. They have several Asian salads and soups to choose from. Plus there at at least 10-20 different other Asian main courses. One of my favorites was the yellow curry chicken, it was so creamy and delicious. There the desert you have tons of choices as well, everything from any sort of cake to pudding to soft serve ice cream. The restaurant is pretty big and clean. The bars are kept clean as well. The service is awesome, as soon as you finish a plate and get up for another one the dirty one is gone. If your drink is close to being half gone it is filled up swiftly almost without you noticing. So yeah Buffet Palace is doing a great job and we will be back! read more

It's at least as good as the stuff you would buy from HEB, and that's like $9 for a SINGLE ROLL. ALL YOU CAN EAT BABY! So yeah, sushi is a big selling point here. But what's also awesome is that beyond the typical Chinese fare like General Tso's Chicken, lo mein, and what not that you usually see at a buffet, they have Korean BBQ and yellow curry chicken and more! Super excited to see all of this stuff. Attempt to exercise enough self control to fit some ice cream inside you after cause they have one of those soft serve machines too! This is by far the best Asian buffet I've eaten at in Austin. What stands out at Buffet Palace the most is its ambiance. The restaurant looks more modern compared to the other Asian buffets around here and the food area is better organized. On top of organization, their food is also tasty. The servers are extremely nice and never had a problem with them. They greet you and have exceptional mannerism - a rarity at Asian buffets such as this. For just about $14 (including tax) on weekends, this place is surely worth it. Their sushi looks fresh and the rice they use actually doesn't look dried out. They have a lot of variety of sushi including tempura rolls. However, It's safe to say that most of the rolls are 75% rice. In addition to the sushi, they serve tasteful miso soup, which is a rarity at an Asian buffet. Other worthy mentions of their selection is the Korean bbq short ribs and dessert bar. What's this? A good Chinese buffet in Austin? Umm, as long as you avoid the Chinese. Don't get me wrong: the Chinese food isn't bad, it's just that it's your standard Americanized-Chinese buffet fare: chicken, beef, and pork in cloyingly heavy sauces. They have some more upscale items, like salmon, but their upscale items get dried out after sitting under the heat lamps for a while, and aren't that great even if you get to them right as they're delivered. And they've got the usual stuff like pizza, for picky eaters who walked into a Chinese buffet but didn't want Chinese food. The freshness of the sushi isn't bad, for a buffet, but the rolls are 99 and 44/100% pure rice and .56% sushi. So why am I giving this place five stars? First of all, expectations are just lower at a buffet. But more importantly, the Korean food here is actually good. Multiple types of kimchi, bulgogi, soup, seaweed salad, jap chae, not to mention multiple variates of ceviche (including Korean octupus ceviche), plus a good selection of dumplings. If you just want one dish, you can do better for the same price at Korean Grill, Manna, Misung 888, New Oriental Market, Chosun Galbi, Shilla, Osaka Mansun, Odaku Sushi, or Korean Garden, but you can't beat the variety here. read more

Its a Chinese food orgy. Does anything else need to be said?? It huge, lots of seating, tons of options, kid friendly, great staff, and they have a sushi section. So its not gourmet but its a freaking buffet! The boys love this place and given the option they always pick Buffet Palace. The rice is not greasy. They have fresh grill veggies. The serving trays aren't very deep so that means the food is constantly being refilled. Like I said, they have sushi which is not a common sight at a buffet. They also have a decent selection of desserts. Some look like they picked it up from Costco but that's not to say it isn't good! As long as the kids keep picking BP, we will be coming back! read more
