3.5 stars. This place has been around my entire life and I only just got around to finally trying it. Don't expect mind-blowing Chinese food here, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. The lunch buffet prices are extremely reasonable and especially by today's buffet price standards: $17 a person and that includes your drink. They have your standard fare -- Hunan chicken, beef broccoli, fried rice, chow mein -- but also some things I didn't expect to see, like chow fun, sushi, various noodle dishes, some fish-based entrees, and more. I didn't hate or dislike anything, and all the dishes ranged from genuinely really tasty (Hunan chicken, chow fun, noodles) to not bad (chow mein, fried rice, beef broccoli). I came hungry, left full, and didn't regret anything I served. I'd also come back the next time I'm in the mood for decent shoveling food at a decent price. Lady at the front counter was super nice. Fortuna Buffet -- Where the only thing fresh is your regret. I went to Fortuna Buffet with my family, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience from start to finish. The cleanliness was unacceptable--many plates were dirty, and the food was poorly presented. Fruits and salads were placed directly on ice, which is not up to food safety standards. Worse, my mother was injured when a server handed her a chopstick and she got a splinter. Instead of offering real help, the server simply stood over us awkwardly while we tried to remove it ourselves. It was both unprofessional and uncomfortable. On top of that, the staff continuously stared at us while we were eating, making the atmosphere feel tense and unwelcoming. The restaurant was nearly empty, which made us question how it's still operating. To top it all off, I ended up with stomach issues shortly after eating--raising serious concerns about food handling and hygiene. Nothing much to brag about with this buffet. They have your standard Chinese food, seafood, sushi, soup, and fruits. There's not a huge variety, but enough to let you get a taste. Food was mediocre or not very good (depending on the dish). Not a place I would come back to again. $25.99 per adult for the weekend Service was not bad. They come by to pick up your plates pretty quickly. Lots of seating. It's a pretty big space and can fit large groups. read more

We came here yesterday for Sunday lunch with my parents , sis and bro-in-law. Although not many choices in terms of buffet, some dishes were really tasty and we like them a lot! I liked short ribs ( not too salty): tender and juicy. I also liked crabs ( salty though), French fries and pastries ( mini sized) . Sushi that I actually could eat ( both fish and rice). Being one of the last surviving known buffets between Oakland and San Leandro, I can attest that some things don't change. The high prices, friendly service, but most of all low quality food. As a teenager, my friend and I would constantly go to the location that used to be in downtown Oakland. After that went under, we hadn't put much of an effort to go and explore the one in San Leandro. I honestly was only at this location because one of my closest friends is holding a birthday here and chose this place for dinner. When we got there right before dinner hours, the location was practically empty. It wasn't that they didn't have a customer base. People just hadn't started flooding in until an hour before closing. Service was fine but when it comes to the food, that's a whole other story. As someone who has had more than enough of their fair share of Chinese food and American cuisine growing up, the options at this location had three options: overcooked, too greasy, or perfectly made. It was shocking to see that while multiple options were clear misses, their Chow Fun and Fried Rice were impeccable. Had I not started, shoving myself massive amount of protein in the beginning, I would've had plenty of room to chow down on those two options. But unfortunately, after my second plate, I was done. What I miss from the Oakland location was that they had a self serve ice cream dispenser. At this location, you have to flag down an employee who will then serve it to you from a freezer. Overall, the trip down memory lane was pleasant for what it was. Out of five guest, none of us were technically satisfied, but at the very least or at peace with this being our dinner. It's never a good sign when the birthday boy apologizes for choosing his dining option, but being surrounded by great company and celebration of a dear friend, made a quality of food easily forgettable. Given that we can't do half star ratings, by default I will round it to a 3/5. Since there aren't many buffets to go to anymore in the East Bay, if you're looking for the experience and not so much the food Buffet Fortuna we have you covered. For the poor quality food it's severely overpriced, but for those one in 1 million stellar dishes it's worth every penny. read more

This is a great buffet and I recommend that you try it out. We went here on a Saturday morning and enjoyed the food and the ambience. You pay at the front(can skip tips) before you go inside. Lots of sun light in the dining hall. Great selection of dishes, and they even have sushi that actually tasted pretty good. Their short ribs were cooked very well and they were juicy and tender unlike some other buffets where I've tried short ribs. Most Chinese buffets I've eaten at fuck up on short ribs, but not buffet fortuna. One thing though, their clam chowder is no good. Somebody in management need to take a look at the recipe and give it a complete overhaul because the clam chowder was just no good at all. My husband and I went here for dinner last week, thinking we'd give it a try since the reviews were mixed. We will never go again. We should have done a walk-thru before we paid but that was our mistake. The food that was out for dinner had clearly been out since lunchtime. Over half the stations were empty. Many of the stations had "remnants" of a dish, like puddings, the "no won ton" won ton soup, and several seafood and pork dishes. What food we did try (veggie noodles, sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper spareribs, won ton soup that had no wontons, general tso chicken, California rolls, cut fruit, butter cookies) was either tasteless, old, dried out, or underripe. I don't even want to talk about what the seafood hot table looked like, just that it was an instant "no" when I saw some VERY weirdly discolored cooked mussels. Let's not even get into the service here as we practically had to beg to get 2 small cups of soda and then battle for a single refill. Also, as a former food service employee, I recognize the smell of "something rancid" that comes from uncleaned grease build-up in the kitchen (floors, hoods, cooking utensils) and this place has it in spades. For a buffet, this place is pretty good. I think you can definitely get your money's worth here, even paying the weekend price. The entrance is very unassuming. The building looks like it might have been an old Hometown Buffet with the stone walls and large windows, but there are huge gold Chinese characters next to their door. There is a small hallway you have to walk through to get to the register. You pay up front and then are given a ticket and a basket of forks for your party. The ticket allows you to get a plateful of fried crab one time only. There is a person who is manning the fountain drinks. You tell her what you want. She will also get you ice cream from the cooler. I think they didn't have a lot of variety. They also ran out of the popular dishes like orange chicken and wouldn't refill until a long time. I never got to taste the orange chicken :( A lot of their veggie dishes contained zucchini and celery. I love zucchini! The fried food and seafood station is by the kitchen and is the first station you pass after walking away from the register. You can self serve everything at the buffet except the crab and the soda. Tip: do not trust the table of 18-24 year olds across from you when they are doing their Yelp reviews out loud and rate this place a 4-5 out of 5. I often question whether businesses survive the pandemic and I often ask myself how horrible places like this still exist. It was bad prior to the pandemic and it's food and service even more subpar afterwards. Came here on a weekend dinner and can't believe I paid 33 bucks for subpar food and service. The entrees on the hot food line run thin most of the time and the food dry to the point where you question..."what is this mystery meat?" And you read the label which says sweet and sour pork. You bite until it and you question if you just had pork or a piece of jerky. All you can eat? Apparently, if you want the "better" food such as oysters and seafood, you have to bribe the waitress to save you a plate. Saw a customer ask for oyster and the waitress asked the customer for 2 dollars to save him a plate. I don't see a sign where it says two dollars more for seafood. Unfortunately, you don't serve yourself drinks from the fountain, you must ask the staff member for a cup of soda. Also, keep in mind that if you don't tip or tip enough upon leaving, expect to eat an earful from the wait staff and them chasing you for a tip. don't eat here! We got sick from the food. We called and talked to Pricilla and let her know that my daughter and I got sick from their food, and she became defensive and rude. She did not want to address any issues and laughed. I asked who the manager was, and she gave the name Tony Wong, but he was not available. I asked her for a refund, she refused. She told me to call the health department and said she wasn't refunding my money. she laughed on the phone multiple times and hung up. I have been trying to reach the restaurant and Mr. Wong and we get an automated recording saying their phone is offline. If waitress not going to refill any soda or drinka, why have a waitress at all. At the beginning, not taking order for our drink , we have to go to the soda area and ask for our initial drink. After that, no more, she pick up plates probably twice , so she saw 3 empty cups for sure. They should have the trash can like McDonald's and just Skippy the waitress if they aren't doing anything. Tips are important for waitress,but tips is a way for customer to show appreciation for the waitress service ,not for the food or drink they have already paid for.
