I seriously get almost all my clothes here. They are very well-selected, with most pieces being very trendy and all within around $10-20. I don't sell stuff here since they're really picky about what's acceptable and that'd give me crazy anxiety, so I dump my stuff at Goodwill, and head over for shopping!! I also get tons of great necklaces as well, and the staff is always super friendly. I don't know what I'd do without Buffalo Exchange! read more

Buying: Great Selection, always finding good buys for a pair of nikes or t-shirts you can't buy anywhere else in boston. Always finding steals. Ex. Picked up a nike windbreaker for 18 dollars that would retail 80. Selling: I had my first selling experience yesterday. The buyer would go through all my clothing, deciding what she wants to buy. I had about 30% of my clothing bought and all were name brands. I was a bit disappointed. I had an Armani vest and she only priced it at 16.50 because it had a crease from folding. I had 2 pair of brand new skinnys and she only took one, but then she took my old 501s. I was kind of confused. Yet, I was satisfied with making about 75 dollars in store credit(50%) or 45 in cash(30%). Overall, my only concern was if the buyer would talk to ME more about what is being bought, or reasons why not because i was just standing there for 10 mins glaring at my clothing while the buyer murmured to herself. Great store none-the-less. A "must" if you are in the area. read more

I can't say much for the rest of the reviews.. perhaps they went at a very busy time. It's too bad you can't make an appointment but when i brought my clothes I didn't have to wait. I also made a solid $75 from my winter cleaning items. I did use to work in retail so i must say, i did have a lot of treasures hidden in the pile of clothes i dragged in. For all the stuff they don't take they can donate it for you to the Salvation Army. Prior to me donating clothes i stopped in when it just opened and found an awesome studded black handbag for $20, i can't go anywhere without getting a compliment on it, what a great find. No there are no big designer labels but i think that's the best part of this place. So i brought in this gold sparkle blazer and the girl was torn about whether they could sell it or not. She most fairly brought it to her manager, covering the label that is was, and had her manager be the deciding factor - i thought that was pretty cool that they base their judgment off style only and not labels. read more

I LOVE this place. It's sort of like an indie T.J. Maxx--there's definitely a treasure-hunting element, but most of the work is done for you. I've already bought plenty of things from here--belts, a dress, and a lovely pair of unused boots. And tons of stuff here is still new with tags on it. My only caveat is to make sure you're really getting a deal. It's consignment, and not every consigner has a good sense of what their stuff is worth. This is especially true of the shoes here. On the other hand, though, I have gotten great deals here--a fabulous Betsey Johnson belt for $10, and a purple leopard print sweater dress that has already become a staple of my fall/winter wardrobe for $15. This one has the edge on the Allston location because it has a bargain basement--keep an eye on the dates on those tags, so that you know when things will go on clearance. Whenever I am in Davis Sq. I stop here and leave with the perfect something. The store and fitting rooms are bright and clean, staff is helpful and I love finding goodies on the sale rack. Today was my first time selling and it won't happen again. I had a client tell me how great it was that she'd gone and sold stuff but reminded me that they'll only buy clothes that are in season. So I grab together a bag of clothes I've either never worn or didn't fit, some still with tags, some lightly worn. Even brought in a few really nice pairs of shoes. When I walked in the girls at the front didn't seem to be interested in buying and even looked at each other and said "do you feel like buying stuff?" The girl who decided that buying from me wouldn't kill her, was quite and kind of rude in a way. She pulled each article of clothing out, not looking at the brand or size, just quickly front and back and put it down. Dozens of spring time and summer time blouses she passed up. She never said why she wasn't taking them. Then for the shoes she told me were "too worn" which I thought was funny because they were each only worn once. Nine West, Michael Shannon, Steve Madden, Franco Sarto, all great brands in even better condition. Of all the times I've ever been there to look at shoes, they very rarely carry much a selection in my small size 5. So I was thinking they'd go for it. Nope. Also any time I've shopped there I've been confused as to why they ever bought certain items because they looked stained or ripped. I even bought a pair of gap jeans from there that had a patch sewn into the side of the zipper. And they weren't made like that. They'd buy ripped and sewn jeans but won't buy Lucky Brand jeans that were never worn? Very annoyed by the whole experience. read more

This place is ridiculous. Another store adding to the pretentiousness that Davis Sq is becoming. First of all, I fully believe the "buyers" are making up prices of clothing, they turn down brand new items even though similar shit is in the store and then give the reason of "starter fashion". Pretty sure she made that up. "Our manager trains the buyers and we keep up with the industry standard" Fine.Sure.Ooookay. This place is exactly like the episode of Portlandia about the hipster consignment shop. One of the employees had the nerve to comment about a group of people hanging outside of the store that looked a little "hippie-ish" that she hoped they would move from in front of their store. I'm sure if she was outside, people would mistake her for a bum too. Again - Pretentious. The actual store is kind of a joke despite having nice items that are great for a consignment shop. But, they over price the items they eventually do buy from people. More than half the shoes have worn out soles and you can buy the same item for the same price new. The accessories have stones and other things missing on them, which is fine since it is second hand but don't try and sell second hand shit at brand-new prices. Meh, is right. read more

What a bunch of painted lip drudges with regurgitated 90's hand me downs masquerading as interns for vogue. There is not one employee that wouldn't be scoffed out of an actual boutique. What a hideous lot of styleless employees. I wouldn't bother selling anything good as they mock you by offering you pennies for your clothing ( if they take them at all). I'd say bring them the trash as its more reflective of each employees personal style. This place is absolute garbage. I went with two friends and the staff was hostile asf. One of my friends brought 2 huge garbage bags through the subway and they took NOTHING. The cashier was so passive aggresive and only picked by her own personal opinion. They want the most special snowflake garbage like if walked with a ripped up shirt they'd give you like $10. The review I am writing is primarily about the customer service/employees here. I have been going into this BE regularly (sometimes more than once a week) since last summer and I love the premise of the store-- sell things you aren't wearing anyway and get something cute to go out in! That being said, I have never experienced a more pretentious, less personable, and less professional group of retail sales associates and management (mostly management). The three managers are SO RUDE--- they act like you are a burden and interrupting if you need help or have a question. The British woman, the girl with the red hair/glasses and the girl who always wears the cheetah print cardigan and is super fake-bubbly and fake-enthusiastic are always being snotty to customers, talking down to them, and talking down to their employees (who are WAY more professional, friendly, and accommodating than they are). The Cheetah Print manager is always talking about her boyfriend to her coworkers in front of customers (awkward and unprofessional). I don't know who cares less, the customers or the employees she's talking to. These people are a dark stain on the wonderful, down-to-earth realness that personifies the rest of the Davis Square community. Also, go to Goodwill and the Salvation Army in Saugus on Route 1 before coming here. A lot of the time you'll find items that are more unique and less Forever-Twenty One-y garbage. read more

I don't shop here, lets start off with that. I attempt to sell. The buyers are HORRIBLE WITH A CAPITAL H. They spend their time buying cheaply so that they can keep the things they like for themselves, and are so accustomed to buying used clothes that they don't know how much new clothes cost. I have brought stuff there out of laziness and not wanting to deal with apps such as Vinted and Poshmark. eBay is a dinosaur now so my last attempt to unload clothes, NEW WITH TAGS, is this horrible place. Due to a slight shift upwards in weight, a lot of my clothes remained unworn with tags and too small. I go in and get very little for items ticketed for over $100. I see cheap stuff such as H&M, Charlotte Russe, and Forever 21 fare higher dollar. I have to go in today but am seriously thinking about going to the Allston location. They take more items and provide a fair price. I feel like slapping these stupid B&^%%s half the time but I don't, After paying to park to go into that place I ALWAYS LEAVE ANNOYED. The company needs to do something about this location or just keep it as a Charlotte Russe, H&M, and Forever 21 dumping ground. I do better at Garment District but their booking system now sucks and one time a male buyer undervalued my clothes, and another co-worker said something and offered to look them over again. The store looked interesting from the outside and the website boasted its assets but upon trying to actually sell some items there I was immediately ignored by the woman looking through my clothes as she had a conversation with another employee and her customer. Eventually the woman took one of the 10 or so items I brought in (a $70 orig.) dress and quibbled with her nearest fellow employee about the selling price and landed on $14. In the end I got a measly $4.20 for the single dress that i aid more than 10x that for. I am never returning to that store and any other location to sell or purchase clothing. They are a bunch of hipsters with poor taste and who lack proper bargaining and customer service skills. read more

Merry Christmas NOT! I purchased a funky plaid skirt as a gift for my girlfriend the day before Christmas. When she opened it she realized it was too large. We went to return the skirt and were told that since it was beyond the 5 day exchange for refund, we could resell it to the store for cash or credit. Since there were quite a few people ahead of us with many bags full of clothes they were trying to sell, we decided to leave and speak to the buyer another day since it probably would have taken 45 min to an hour and we had many other errands to run. Today was my first chance to return/sell the skirt back to the store for credit. I was told I could not return it. I asked if they would buy it back from me for credit and I was then told they "were not interested"? Not interested? That seemed a bit bizarre since it was an item they were all too willing to sell themselves less than a month ago. I was also told they couldn't accept the item anyway because the tag was not attached. I offered to go home and return / sell the item back to them with the stupid tag re-attached for a credit of some kind, still "no it needs to be attached"... It was a Christmas gift! Who leaves price tags on gifts? I asked once again why they were not offering to buy the skirt back from me and was told they made a mistake??? I've seen lots of girls around Davis who wear this kind of skirt,It would have sold easily.. Oh by the way I've been shopping here since it opened and have purchased many items. To get this kind of runaround for which in effect would have cost them a $5.00 credit the price of the skirt was originally 10.95. It's more a matter of principle. Shoddy treatment for a regular customer. I worked retail and would never dream of treating a repeat customer like that. Sometimes it makes sense to make an exception. Again, it was a small amount of money... Who runs this company and who sets the return policy? I just found out it is a chain of some sort, fooled me I thought I was supporting a local / independent business. Frustrating. read more

I really love shopping at Buffalo Exchange but selling has not been a pleasant experience. The staff are as pretentious as they come. One staff member with a broken arm was attempting to sort through my items and couldnt even open a bag or spread out a shirt so just threw everything back at me without looking. After snubbing my items that same staff member asked if i was selling the $150 longchamp bag on my shoulder. No sir, I am not. Been here a few times and although I never expect red carpet treatment and most times everyone is friendly- you'd think "management" would be a little more tactful, especially Casandra (hopefully that's the right name- tallish, curly blondish with tattoos on her arm). She had a very condescending attitude for someone that works in customer service. Simple questions were met with rude responses and "holier than thou" attitude. It's a second hand store so I get it, but if you hate your job that much, why work there? Anyways, I've tried to like coming here, just for the cash benefit since I try to purge once or twice a year to donate clothes, but I might just stick to goodwill. $20 isn't worth attitude problems and no tax benefit. You can walk in to B.E. to sell your clothes and they have a 30% cash or 50% store credit policy for the items taken so consigning was handy that way. The staff was nice too, but what wasn't was the trade because I had averaged about $3 per item (cash) and what they took were good garments. Next time, I'll just donate clothes to BOOMERANGS at Central Square and JP where the proceeds go to a worthwhile cause. read more

DO NOT SELL YOUR CLOTHES HERE. I brought in two large bags of barely used clothes, about 20 items, and they bought one - the weirdest, ugliest thing I owned. I gave them a wide variety of clothes - flannels, cardigans, sweaters, edgy off-the-shoulder tops, and a pair of ripped jeans which I had bought from THEM two months earlier. The girl gave no explanation besides "it's not what we need." I asked her to elaborate and she gave me the strangest list of styles such as crop tops, turtlenecks with really long necks, velvet, and "provocative clothing." I've bought some very normal-looking clothes from here before despite the ultra-weird style they sound like they go for, so I don't believe for a second that none of my clothes would have sold. They might also want to update their website listing the styles they look for instead of just "dresses, shoes, sweaters..." etc. I've enjoyed shopping at this store but now know not to try selling to them again. read more

I just went here yesterday for the first time, and was very excited to find some wonderful treasures! They have a great assortment of clothing, most of which are reasonably priced, in style and in good condition. I had been really wanting skinny jeans ($21.50), and found a very hot pair! Also found this amazing pink leapord-print mini skirt($9) and a grey long-sleeve Izod shirt ($11). Each of the items I purchased were in like-new condition. There were tons more items - sweaters, jackets, tights, shoes and accessories - I wish that I had more time to check it all out, and will definitely be going back to do that! read more

I had never heard of Buffalo Exchange until my sister-in-law (who lives in TX) told me about it. I decided to check it out and was shocked to find some top designer names amongst the racks. I found some of their prices to be more expensive than I was expecting for used clothing, but all-in-all I was impressed with their selection. read more

this place rocks the spot. their selection of jeans is great, and even though you're paying higher prices than you normally would at a thrift store, that's okay. this is upscale chic. you can find all kinds of name brands here, including the true religion's, hudson's, and free people tee i picked up for under 50 bucks. i also picked up a talbot's double breasted corduroy jacket in a forest green for 11, and i rock it a lot. the ambiance is cool too, the lighting is good so you can inspect what you're buying and the clothing and store are clean, far different than your typical thrift outlet... the overall quality of the clothing is great, for used stuff, and if you can find a popular size in shoe (like a 7), you're in luck. they have original pairs in great condition. :) read more

AH! Tried this place today after I had a consignment appointment with Poor Little Rich Girl across the street. The girl said you did not need appointments to consign, just come in, so I did! Luckily, I did not have to wait in line. The manager chatted the whole time that she looked through my clothing, telling me how long she's been with the company and making small talk about the new area, which was nice to talk to someone and it seemed like she was interested in her customers, too. But at the end of the appointment she didn't even say "bye" or "thank you" or "please come again" which is common courtesy for an employee, let alone a manager! I know you're wicked trendy and all with all your tattoos and emo flair, but hey, a little please and thank you still works. I also overheard her quite rudely tell the girl in front of me that she couldn't take Xhiliration brand because it was from Target, which is so cheap anyways. I agree, but say it in a nicer way, huh? Anyways, I brought in a big bag of clothing that I thought would sell well but she only took TWO items. One was a BCBG top that she priced for $14.00....horrible And the other was something I don't even remember that she gave me $8.00 for. You only get 30% of what she prices it as, which is disgusting.. Poor Little Rich Girl across the street does 40%, and you get to see the invoice slip so you know what it sold for, here she puts a tag on the shirt in front of you, but after she gives you your money you're outta' there, who knows if she takes off that tag and puts on a $24 tag instead of a $14? Not good service. Before I consigned I looked around to see what type of clothing and shoes they accepted, and based what I brought off of that. Nothing in the store was out of the ordinary, and a lot of my stuff was similar to things in the store. Overall, very dissapointed. With so many great consignment shops in the Boston area, why go here? read more

I was so glad when a Buffalo Exchange opened in my area. They really have a good idea with taking clothing that people don't really want anymore and letting them trade it or give them cash for something else. But it isn't really that simple or their store would be filled with all castoffs of out of style clothing. I personally wish the system of selling would be a little different but that is just me. You don't get a lot of cash for your items but than again, if they gave you more than they would lose money and probably not be in business. What happens is that whatever you might pay for an item at full retail, they would sell it for a fourth of that estimated price but you get either 50% store credit for their selling price or 30% cash. They are really picky about items, and the employees know exactly what is in style and what is not. I sold them about 300.00 worth of stuff retail price and only got about 20.00 back in cash. I thought I would get at least 50 or 60 dollars. But with Ebay down, this might be the only option to get any money back for those designer duds sitting in your closet. read more

Loved it! I thought the store was super clean and well organized, even if the place was busy there was no waiting line for the fitting room and the staff was really nice. I ended up purchasing four items and I'm really happy with all of them. Overall, I liked this store more than the NYC one and I'm definitely coming back! read more

I think that this is a pretty good used clothing shop. I haven't found anything there recently that I wanted to buy, but in the past I bought some cute Ralph Lauren shorts and a J Crew summer top. The prices are reasonable, and everything is organized by size. I know that this is a chain shop, but it would be nice if it had more of a "boutique" feel to it. I think the fact that there are lines of people right at the front of the store, with garbage bags full of clothing to sell, detracts from the ambience. read more

I love shopping here, if you look hard there are some great brands like DvF, Lilly Pulitzer, Cole Haan, Vince. Just don't bother selling- they are very picky and will reject most of your clothes. The ones that they don't reject, they will give you a penny for! read more

I have been to this store numerous times and have had luck..Many items are returned to me as they are not interested in them, but many are also taken..You may not know what they exactly want, but it is obviously best to bring in something that is in season (the time of year) you are going there..I have found the different girls to be very nice and patient..They can have long lines and still smile..I do not ask why they don't want an item, cause there is no reason to..I just let them decide..it is there store afterall..lol..But again I have always walked out with something in cash or a check..I do not buy items from there, as I am looking to make some money and it would defeat my purpose..It is a fun place to go..Great for items you no longer want and do not want to throw away or have no one you know to give them to..Try this place, it's worth it. read more

I have been a patron of the Buffalo Exchange for a long time and went in today to sell some clothes, as I am relocating. I ended up selling $450 in retail to the store, which was great. What was so disturbing, offensive and upsetting was that the guy behind the counter continuously stared at my boobs the entire time I was there. He even pointed at them (my boobs) at one point. So gross. I love how Buffalo Exchange can purchase nearly $500 of clothes from someone but not follow simple anti-harassment laws. So upset, ew. read more

I had heard great things about this place. I have a lot of funky upscale clothes. I brought in 4 trash bags with designer labels. The woman who looked through my bags said, "Everything we don't want, I will put to the left (of the counter) She then preceded to casually, snottily put EVERYTHING in the "left" pile. I asked what their criteria was. "We take things that are trending in the malls right now." I said, that's odd, because if things were that current, people wouldn't be reselling it." I started looking around, the clothing was worn and I could have sworn a lot was from the 70's. I asked to speak to the manager as the clerk was dismissing Lucky Brand and 7 for Mankind jeans. "Our customers prefer skinny jeans". I looked over and saw a rack of boot and flare jeans. The ONE thing they were interested in was my black leather jacket. At that point, I was so fed up I said, "No, you can't have it, and by the way, it's from the 80's!" If I could give this place less than one star, I would. I would NEVER go there again. If you want someone to look down their nose, while they go through your clothes, it's the place for you. read more

If I could give buffalo exchange zero stars I would. My first experience I brought jeans, shorts, cardigans purchased within the last year. As the employee started to sort my clothes I noticed that more of my clothes were being returns than to be purchased by the store. I understand that they have to be choosy but seriously give me a break they wouldn't accept jeans because the top was curled. She explained that they were looking for clothes "in season" so your returning my last years plain blue shorts. Also clothes with tags were rejected. I mean being a 20-/something mildly professional my clothes are by far frumpy DISAPPOINTED BEYOND BELIEF is an understatement. I also felt like after the employee looked at what sizes I was offering they were instantly rejected out of the 40 pairs of pants I brought to the location they purchased 2 for $6. i like shopping here, but don't sell them your clothes unless you really don't give a shit what you get for them. i had a brand new bcbg shawl with the tag on it that was priced over 100 bucks and they wanted to give me like 3 dollars for it or something. it sucked i thought i had some nice stuff to get rid of that i just hadn't really worn...went in with a whole bag and they wanted my nicest brand new stuff for practically nothing. it pissed me off. and the girl who was looking at my stuff was all over that bcbg shawl and this nicole miller shirt i'm glad i didn't get rid of cause i started wearing it after that. i was saying "i'm bummed to get rid of it i just never wore it" and after she made some comment like, "well, if it's not earning it's keep" ..right after she said that i changed my mind. they totally rip u off and considering the goodwill is right next door...they probably dig thru there and take all the good shit and then sell it overpriced. ok, after that rant...it is worth it to shop here to me, i've got some nice good quality name brand jeans VERY reasonably priced... like nice gap skinny jeans on clearance for 9 bucks basically brand new. totally worth it. also some amazing bdg flats and jessica simpson boots last winter for like 15 bucks. just don't let them rip you off is all i'm saying cause a lot is overpriced, too. i have a love/hate relationship with it. most of the staff are friendly and nice too, just that girl i was trying to sell my stuff to rubbed me the wrong way, read more
