This place reminds me of my room - clothes strewn everywhere. Which is kind-of how I like it. I like hunting down my clothes, amidst masses of different patterns and styles. I think that's why I enjoy thrift store shopping so much. But LF's prices are something I don't agree with. Simple dresses which you could easily find at H&M or Forever 21 - are priced at around 100-200 dollars. Same quality as well. That being said, I love my boots, belts and short dresses, and LF carries a plethora of sexy brown leather knee high boots, that make me yearn to pair them with a short knit dress and big belt - and strut my stuff. read more

Really? I walked into this place and felt oddly at home, since the clothes strewn all over the tables and racks were oddly reminiscent of my own closet. I feel bad about machine washing my theory sweaters and tossing my seven jeans on the floor before bed....but seeing the atrocious way this place treats the clothes they're selling made me feel a bit better about myself. Customer service is great as you browse, or until you have spent the money. Then a reasonable issue comes up for return, and they'll totally throw their ridiculous policies at you with the blank stare/ plasticy smile/ all the while nodding stance, with some lame excuse why their could've made an exception, if only... So annoying...I like the styles of some of the clothes, they're different and hard to find in Boston, so I'll risk going back.. Me: "It's too big" Them: "Awww, did you try a belt?" This applies to the Boston site too. Here's what I asked for, the NEXT DAY after purchase of 2 pairs of sale pants, to exchange the same EXACT pants for one size down. I sometimes have a better idea after I try them on at home. They were available at the store, for an even, no frills, silly exchange. No go. That's terrible customer service in my experience. I've made similar requests at Betsey Johnson for instance, and they have shipped the other size from other cities for me, free of charge, for an exchange. This company just doesn't care for the customer's approval, or happiness with the product.. read more

STAY AWAY! 1. This store is one of the dinosaurs of customer service, expecting that absolutely terrible policies will suffice. 2. Not only that, but they latch onto you the minute you enter the store and armed with $100 beanies in one hand and $40 leopard socks in the other, they try to force their "styling" (the concept here of throwing everything expensive they think will fit you in stock together) on your body. 3. My experience in trying to return 1 item: come to the counter, the only girl working is on the phone for 5 minutes with a friend talking about some party last night. Apparently, only store credit is offered (dinosaur-age retail) and she begins to try to "style" me! I say please, I only want either a refund or store credit at this point. This goes back and forth until with a look, she applies credit and tells me to come back for a "styling". 4. Way OVERPRICED. I looked up that item online. It costs $45!! They sold it for $138!! Anthropologie meets Urban Outfitters at LF Stores. The store is two and a half times the size of Mint Julep just down the street, which means ... buh buh buhhhhh ... more shoes! Hello! Granted, the style is slightly more hip hop funky attention-getter style than MJ's (if you can believe it), but the prices are just as extravagant. I thought the girls tending to incoming patrons were pleasant enough. I was basically in there by myself and no one was hording me with attention. They let me inspect each shoe carefully: Ibiza, high-heeled Keds, Lovely People, and more. I awed at the dozens of dresses that fit on each rack of random color/order/material/style, the denim cumberbunds/suspender tops, and the shear busty tops. It was a bit dizzying experience, but I was pleased. I will implore and explore this store once more. read more

FASHION LANDS IN HARVARD SQAURE! Wooo Hoooo! This place is always filled with the of the moment trends straight from designers, to celebrities, to the pages of US Magazine and then on the racks in this store! Acid wash jeans in purple? Yup! They are actually trendy right now, maybe not the rage in Boston, but they rage in the fashion world, so you can bet you will find them here! This location is a little bit smaller than the Newbury location, but has a little room dedicated to shoes, so you can actually check out their selection (as opposed to the other store they are just randomly strewn throughout the store). LF, you get 4 stars for brining Fashion to Boston but lose one (it should possibly be even more) for your prices! its just all so darn pricey! If you can't afford to regularly shop here (aka me) its worth checking-in to see whats in fashion, then heading to H&M to try and snag similar items for about 1/8 the price. Otherwise wait until they have their huge sales about twice a year. read more

I suppose I would have given this place 4 stars if I could actually afford anything there. I would totally dress like someone who shops here if I didn't have to prove my scholarly non-stylishness on a daily basis. Damn you, science. The shoes are straight out of The Sartorialist, and I love all the blousy shirts, but I couldn't find a single pair of jeans that weren't either a) legging-like or b) high-waisted and wide-legged. I recall reading somewhere that LF stores are basically Urban Outfitters on crack. I think that is a fair comparison, but for perspective, we're not talking about the disheveled figure at the corner yelling at cars for a fix, but the one that sits in her high rise penthouse in Malibu having orgies with celebrities. LF Robertson gets a lot of Hollywood ass, so I suppose LF Harvard Square attracts either (a) daddy's credit card or (b) broke college bitches who only roll through when it's the 60% off sale. Which is decent, I must admit, especially towards the end when they slash everything down to price points. $48 denim is probably the best value and the $32 / $14 tops ain't too shabby either. But seriously, if you're going to charge $144 retail for a shirt, at least have the decency not to make it out of viscose. read more

But this one sales girl.... she is nice and helpful but OMG she kept on giving me more stuff to try out, I just went in to get a pair of jeans, but ended up trying like 20 pairs and 10 tops... While I was in the dressing room, she kept on bringing more, "here try this one too!". Hubby+baby was waiting outside, and time pressure...waaaah! Overly priced merchandise that you can find elsewhere and for much better quality. I've only been in this store 3 times: 1st Visit: my best friend heard about this place and there was not a location near home (VA/DC), therefore when she came to visit Boston, I went into this store with her. Not my clothing style in particular, however I respect anyone's taste of clothing. Anyway, I found the store really unorganized, and the staff decently friendly. 2nd Visit: I went to buy my best friend a birthday gift, a $190 dress that was very, very pretty and fit her perfectly, along with a pair of $28 wishbone stud earrings. As soon as she received her gift, she LOVED it! She wore the dress on the day of her bday, and wore the earrings ever since. A month later she was so saddened and told me her earring broke by just readjusting the backing after taking them off for the first time to clean them. As a good friend, I told her I would get her another one. 3rd Visit: I went into the store, was greeted by a security guard at the front door, went straight to the cashier desk where they had the earrings piled in a bowl. I dug through the entire bowl and only found 1 out of 1 pair, the other was missing. A sassy sales associate was nice enough to empty the bowl out to see if the other pair was loose and hidden in the bunch... but nothing. So I ended up purchasing another pair of earrings in replacement. I even tried calling another location in MA (Cambridge) to see if they may have the wishbone in stock, before I make the trip over, but their phone number goes straight to an automated answering machine. I don't think i would come back to this store for any other reason. My point being is that the clothes are over priced and are poor quality. You are better off going to Nordstroms, Free People, or Anthropology to find some similar clothing. read more

The only time I ever come to LF is when they are having the annual sale. Comparing LF Boston and LF Harvard you should definitely go to LF Harvard without question. These girls keep the store super organized which makes it easy to look and buy. The LF in Boston is a disaster! piles of clothes everywhere. This one is super clean, organized, and they are very friendly. If you need a size the will help. So come to this one! LF during the sale can get a little hectic, but just be patient. read more

LF = Forever 21 + $$$ Yeah, this is essentially a super expensive version of Forever 21. They sell trendy dresses, acid wash jeans, vests, and millions of silky printed shirts. Any of these items will run you $100-250 easily. Are any of them worth it? Honestly, no. Even with the 60% off everything sale going on right now, I still couldn't find anything worth even the sale price. I wanted a cute pin-up style polka dot dress, but with the sale bringing it down to only $80, I couldn't justify it. I think I'll stick with H&M, Forever 21, and American Apparel for all the same stuff this place sells, at prices I can afford. read more

Literally everything in the store is 60% off...still some things are not as affordable as I would like them to be, but I got some cool new digs at decent prices. I've read a lot of reviews complaining about the clothes strewn about this store. The thing is, that's kinda their whole deal: the store is supposed to look like someone's closet. Not that my closet looks anything like this. Still, they have ridiculously cute shoes and fun jewelry. I'm not especially drawn to most of the clothing here, though. It tends towards the uber-trendy styles that look good only on very thin, small chested women. Periodically I find things I do like that do fit, but it's not a common occurrence. I love their sales, though. I just bought a very cute, flattering lightweight black jacket for $36. Original price? $198. Fantastic deal, and it was exactly what I was looking for. I'll try to ignore the fact that I had to buy it two sizes larger than my normal size. Sizes running small seems to be a hallmark of stores like this. read more

I have to admit I'm giving the shop four stars primarily because of its staff. It does have cute, super trendy stuff, but it's not the most organized in the world, and not the easiest to shop. Their shoe selection (especially for those stuck in snow-ridden MA) is kind of fantastic, with countless boot options and fun, cute socks to wear with them (and not the sort your grandmother would buy you.) There were countless dresses I would have happily bought, but I settled on what seemed like a sensible purchase: fuzzy-lined wooden-platformed short boots. Admittedly, they're a lot more interesting than the flat everyday boots I walked in wearing. Also less sensible. But somehow, I think they're an excellent purchase, and whether or not that is simply the excellent saleswoman who sold them to me or the truth... well, time will tell. Mostly, it's nice to walk in somewhere and not feel pressured to buy something, but to feel like you genuinely want to buy something cute, a little different, and little more gutsy than you might have otherwise. No, it's not cheap. But that's what generally accompanies buying clothing or shoes from a smaller boutique, and the genuinely personal experience I had made it entirely worthwhile. The ladies were all extremely friendly and not of the judgy sort that so often accompany an atmosphere an on-trend as the one here. read more

The LF brand has a fascinating business model. The LF stores have a 60% Off clearance-type sale twice a year, where everything in the store is priced at 60% off. During these sales, a $240 item of clothing, for example, is priced at $96. Psychologically, people rush to buy items during the sale, thinking they've hit the jackpot on a deal. In reality, the $96 piece on sale is probably still about $80 overpriced. One time, I came into LF and saw an item for $128 that I purchased from a Melrose boutique in L.A. for $15 a few weeks earlier. Very basic design, same fabric, not kidding! So the quality is generally extremely poor (like others have stated previously): Think Forever 21. The prices are usually sky high: Think BCBG Max Azria. The staff are super attentive, and sometimes obnoxiously so. When you're ready to pay, chances are that they will ask you: "Are you sure you don't want some fries (shoes, tank tops, nail polish, you name it) with that?" (Yes, of course I would, as long as it's free!) Like any other clothing boutique, if you come in at the right time and you dig very, very hard, you might find something unique and worth buying. The music in the store is always very energetic and dreamy, and digging isn't such a drag. The shoes are fantastic, actually: not always the best quality, but very comfortable, outgoing styles. If you can purchase a pair of shoes during one of their sales, you may have actually hit a very good deal. read more

WOW! I've died and gone to fashion purgatory. My god, how does this owner sleep at night. Yeah, a select portion of their clothes are nice. But, they also sell acid washed jeans that I think my babysitter wore back in 1984 -- and the price is high, like over 100. The girls working there were tweaking out every few seconds when I would walk from dress to frock. They would give me the whole spiel of what said outfit was made of. Example: (me slightly touching a dress/smock/tie...I couldn't tell but it was 98 bucks on sale). Salesbot: "That dress is made purely from SCAAAARVVES." Me: Oooh, (feigning intrigue), "That is interesting..." This went on each and every time I'd walk over and glance at something. I left after 3 minutes. I said I'd be back, but won't. When I walked in to this place, I thought I was in Kim Kardashian's ransacked walk-in closet. Not sure what the appeal is. The staff has the sincerity of an aspiring actress/stripper giving a lap dance to Harvey Weinstein. High prices and no semblance of merchandise in the store. If you need to do inventory or straighten up, do it after hours, Don't expect customers to wade through the mess. Its a total turn off. read more

The bottom line is that I do not recommend their clothes because the overall quality of their pieces for the price are definitely poor. I have literally spent multiple $G's throughout the years at LF, and I have a few bones to pick ~ a few things to say ~ their clothes fall apart, their pieces fit weird, it's like the fabulous sales girls there show you the positives (kudos to them) but I have come to realize that MOST of the pieces that come home with me are scrap-like after 1 wear, and somehow I miss it when I'm in the store ...and I'm not a shop-a-holic, I like to buy things, but Im not "that girl"... anyway - what I do know is that everything I have purchased there are able to be warn once or twice... and I question the value in general as sometimes I have paid $250-$300 for a cotton dress! You know, a $20 cotton dress... I guess my thought is this... they have a bunch of "stuff" there and maybe 1 thing, and I mean 1 thing in the years of purchases will go a long way with you and your history of purchases... the rest will be a remnant in your closet... because it immediately looks old, it shapes weird, bla bla. So. After finding a black purse that is super fabulous but not functional for everyday that cost me like $400-$500, I have come to terms that I will never go there again because that place sells un-useful things that some how subliminally convince you that this is a "great buy" at the time ...but super lame later. And they don't take returns or else i would take the opportunity to switch my scraps for something that has more quality. The [silly] positive about LF, the least that they do, is they send me anniversary and birthday cards that don't talk about sales... just, "hello from the girls at LF" which is a nice touch. read more

Walking along Church Street I glanced into LF's window and saw a beautiful eggplant frock. I was intrigued. I am torn between a 3 and a 4 on this one, but I'm feeling slightly festive today.... I have to admit that it was complete overload for me when I walked in this store. The whole closet theme was too much for me, or maybe we don't see eye to eye on how we choose to maintain our closets. I am a minimalist so you figure it out. Because of the amount of "stuff" crammed into every nook and cranny, I quickly became disoriented. Things got repetitive for me ( too many jumpers, too much plaid. Wait?! Did I just say "too much plaid"?! WTF?! I didn't think that was possible...) So why the four stars you ask? When I was able to get focused, I realized that they had some really cool stuff , and not all of which was out of my league. My issue was committing time to look at everything but once I did ... I ended up walking out with some pretty cool underwear, tights that are kick ass And made in USA and a new love for shoes. Walked in wearing earth shoes, left wearing stilettos. Spent $400 here on my entire closet when I moved to the area a couple of summers ago. The salesgirls latched onto me the moment I stepped in, and while they were ultimately super helpful since I am hopeless at picking out my own clothes, I did walk out with a few items I was not in love with but was convinced would come in useful. Still, better than how I would have done shopping alone. Two stars because ultimately the quality of clothing is meh. I like my clothes to last forever, and these last maybe half a year before starting to feel flimsy and shrunken/stretched. read more

I recommend this LF over the one in Boston. I've been here a couple of times for their sale of the season. The store is pretty organized and there's not the usual mess you would expect at an LF sale. The employees are nowhere near as annoying as the ones at Newbury street. In fact, they have never greeted me or asked if I want help. Don't get me wrong I'll take that any day over the way the vultures at the Newbury store street treat customers. Forget about shopping here if there isn't a sale going on. Prices are ridiculously over priced. If you wait a few months you'll be guaranteed to find what you want for at least 60% off. read more

So, this place has insanely overpriced apparel that is missing most of its fabric and has lots of holes in it. The staff is generally unfriendly, and the store is a mess. BUT. They had an amazing sale where everything was dirt, dirt cheap. SO, the moral of this story is, get on their mailing list, figure out when their big sales are, and only buy stuff at the sales. Never pay full price- it is highway robbery. Also, most of the clothing here would only fit someone of size 4 and below, and even so, would look pretty bad if you have ever even eaten anything besides celery in the past year. I am a pretty small girl and I can only wear the largest size jeans they carry!! But, if you are willing to wade through the mounds of tie dyed cropped baby tee shirts, you will find some cute things that are normal-human sized. read more

So from Mint Julep I went straight to LF, again, a store whose window display I often admire but have never been inside until today. It really surprised me to find out they only have a 3 star Yelp rating... they are not a 5 star store, but they are definitely a 4 star store. Therefore, I'm giving 5 to help increase their rating. I find it funny that one other reviewer described the shop as reminding her of her bedroom, because that's exactly what I thought upon walking in as well. And I like that too! It makes it cool and cosy, it almost feels like you're shopping at home... but you're not. The girls who helped me were really awesome and I totally appreciated it. They have so much stuff that it can be hard to take in everything at once, you really need some time to browse, and it's all rather randomly assorted. I bought some things that I am sure I will absolutely love, including the perfect pair of gloves that I've been looking for all fall. That said...let's talk about the negative. There are some things in this store that are far too overpriced. I spent a lot of money in there today, but I made sure to be careful and only chose items I thought were actually near-worth the price. The salesgirl picked out a few items that I actually really liked, but that I knew i could get (either the same or very similar) for less than half the price at the mall or online. For example: a $45 "designer" scarf that was basically just made of printed gauze? Even if it wasn't made for 99 cents in Mexico or China (and who knows if it was), I just can't justify paying that for a scarf unless it's extremely high quality or extremely unique. I know some people want to pay for the brand label, but if I like a brand it's because I like their products, not because I want people to know I *have* their products- I'm that person who if I actually saw a Gucci bag I liked or something, I'd rather buy a good replica if it was cheaper, and I'd buy it because I liked it, not because "omg, it's Gucci".... so long tangent aside, what I'm trying to say is that the same line of thinking applies to a lot of the stuff in this shop. Again, Harvard Square syndrome strikes and it feels like many of the clothes are marked up way too high for what they actually are. Jessica T basically said the same thing as I did above, now I come to think of it. I'd like to emphasize that this is my only issue with the store though, and I definitely will shop here again because they DO have some unique things that are worth the price. The staff is really helpful and friendly, and their clothes are pretty cute while not worth prices over $100. That being said, their end-of-season sales are amazing. I picked up some $24 dresses and a rather unique miniskirt for $18. So if you'd otherwise go to H&M or F21, hit up this place during sales time. I have spent thousands of dollars at LF stores over the years. Since moving closer to the Harvard area, I have frequented this location more often. This past sale, I have stopped by a few times and purchased items (on sale, though still not cheap). Today, I was planning to make a hefty purchase. A woman kindly took my items in the dressing room presumably to count them and then led me in. She even kindly and quickly grabbed me another pair of jeans in a different size when asked. When I decided on what I was going to purchase (about $400 worth of merchandise), I was aggressively approached by 2 employees and accused of stealing. They stated that the amount of items I left the dressing room with did not match the amount I went in with. Shocked by this accusation, I offered them to search my bag as well as my person which they dismissed, insisting that since the count was incorrect, I must have stolen. The "security" guard on duty did not say a word and we all kind of stood there awkwardly, as I obviously hadn't stolen anything. Needless to say I did not purchase anything, and an employee told me to "never come back". read more

I would give this a four star for clothes. but 0 star for customer service, the sales associate named mel, was so unfriendly. All I got was dirty looks, when I told her ill be back to purchase the items the following day. When I returned, I got the same rude vibe. She kept following me around, as soon as she realized I was going to buy the stuff, suddenly became a chatter box, talking none sense to make the sale, so stupid... when I was ready to purchase, she charged me for a pair of shoes instead of a shirt, when I saw my receipt and called she laughed, and said I shouldn't care because I bought it on sale, so disrespectful. This store was one of the worst shopping experiences of my life. I was in Harvard on the hunt for ankle boots and maybe a new winter jacket, I always see cute boots in their window so I decided to try it out. The store was empty and I was greeted immediately by a salesperson. She told me about how they "style" full outfits. I tried to say off the bat I was just looking for shoes but she started grabbing massive sweaters, tiny leggings, and scary heels with wild abandon. She created about 6 "looks" for me and shoved me in a dressing room. None of the bottoms fit me (I'm pretty curvy, and I don't think she looked at sizes at all) and all the tops were huge and flowy and oddly shaped. I came out saying nothing fit and she actually POUTED, like it was my fault I didn't want to show her my thighs squeezed into leather leggings. She brought over a bunch of shoes and I liked a few but I remarked that a couple pairs wouldn't go with the jeans I was wearing (which was the goal of the shopping trip) and she TOLD me, "well, I styled the shoes to go with the specific outfits I chose for you, of course they're not going to go with those". She kept bringing me SO MUCH STUFF. I actually had to fake a phone call and SWEAR ON MY LIFE that I would come back to buy $200 knockoff timberlands. Customer service ruined my visit with friends. Both times I had gone, a worker basically escorted me through the store. She would make small talk and point out clothes when I really just wanted to shop alone. The second time, a worker had pulled an armful of clothes for my friend to try on which she had no input towards. The worker continued to help my friend shop and pressured her into trying on different outfits and buying additional clothes. Overall the clothes were cute but pricey. Other than their clingy marketing the store is nice. read more
