However, the parking in front is loading only for commercial trucks like FedEx. Which is not at all clear, especially if you are from out of town. This place all kinds of gems if you're willing to take the time to find it. This place is pretty big but kind of tight when going down the aisles especially if someone has a cart. There is everything from clothes & shoes to random housewares & bags. Sometimes you can make out really well, all depends on when you go & what you happen to be looking for. I mean sometimes you find something you didn't even know you wanted or needed. I guess that can be dangerous. So do yourself a favor & start supporting local & reduce your carbon footprint by not adding more child labor or textiles into the landfill. read more

It's tough to impress when Boomerang's (aka "Boom's") is less than a block away. Even though I still get most of my stuff from Boom's, I sometimes find a gem at the Goodwill. I found a working coffee grinder (blade, not burr) and a bunch of new eco-friendly light bulbs once. However, I usually get household items and not clothes at thrift stores. Boom's has a better selection of kitchen stuff, so maybe that's why I've bought so much more stuff there. Recently, I bought a popcorn pumper for roasting coffee. It was only $5.99 and it works (for making popcorn AND roasting coffee). The shirts are organized by color, which is pretty cool because the sizes are usually inconsistent anyway. The Goodwill shoe selection seems large (2 racks instead of just one at Boom's). I recently found a pair of black oxford Doc Martens there for $9.99. That's a little high for used shoes, but for Docs, I was willing to pay for it. All they needed was a bit of shoe polish. And finally, the book section is actually quite varied and I've found some unexpected titles, ranging from "So you want to be Canadian" to a Durkheim book. As you'll find in most thrift stores, they have plenty of cook books and novels. All paperbacks are only 99 cents. The store is quite clean and neat and the staff are helpful. If you're going to Boom's, you might as well stop at the Goodwill too. read more

This is a strange little story. I came here because I've been pretty sick and was facing a hospital stay in town, while all my clothes were far away and anyway the weather warmed up and last year I was a lot heavier. So nothing would have fit. Plus, being sick means a lot of bills with nothing much to pay for them, so I didn't think I could afford anything. My boyfriend brought me here and in less than an hour, I had an entire wardrobe of mostly designer clothes, all for my short, skinnier self. Even found shoes for my tiny feet. I think I spent about $40 total and am always get compliments on my finds. It was definitely not only worth it for the stuff I needed, but it was a fun trip to distract me from reality for a while. We went back a day later and managed to find him a shirt you can only find in the UK. I think he paid three dollars for it and it was almost worth 200 pounds. While this store is definitely picked over by a lot of the neighborhood hipsters, some of them are obviously giving back. I have about 20 boxes filled with old clothes of mine to donate, some from Greece and Italy and most barely worn... I think I'm going to bring it up here where people will appreciate it more. I've been in this Goodwill many times, because who doesn't love a good deal? The store is surprisingly well organized and the staff are more attentive/conversational (in a good way, not an annoying way) than usual. I really want to like this store more, but I always leave a little disappointed. There is a "boutique" section here where more fasionable or professional items go. There are definitely more name brands, but I find many of the items are a little frumpy...meant for someone twice my age (26)...or meant for someone who is my age but is living in a parallell universe where it is still 1980. In my thrifty opinion, here are some truths: --this store rarely has much furniture/home goods. For this stuff, go to Boomerangs down the street or the Goodwill in Roxbury (Booms is close and convenient but the Rox Goodwill has a wider selection and is cheaper) --if you're in your 20s/30s and want clothes that are still semi "in", go to Buffalo Exchange in Allston (more pricey), the Goodwill in Central, or the Goodwill in Davis. These areas are more heavily populated by college students and young professionals and the stores here seem to amass a lot of gently-used / name brand clothing. --if you're looking for costume items, this is a good place, but the Garment District near Kendall is best. --if you want children's clothing, Boomerangs usually has a larger selection. Those points aside, you can always get lucky and find a gem. I live nearby so I stop in once in a while...but I wouldn't go out of my way to come visit this particular thrift shop. read more

Store itself is decent. Can find some good deals. What I hate is the woman who works there, who frequently screams, "Pick that up!" when people are going through the racks and something slides off the hanger. She harasses customers to the point that people - like me- feel uncomfortable even being there. She has a nasty attitude, which makes shopping there a miserable experience. Small but well organized, this is on my list of 'good' Goodwill's. It is right next to boomerangs and I would often rather shop there for many reasons, but I can't really put aside the fact that when I went in, I left with two designer blouses in great condition that were valued at over 100 each. I got both for $7. In this way, the pickings are much better than they are at my more local Goodwill, which is often flooded with poor quality fast fashion stuff from the many students in the area. Will go back again next time I'm going by boomerangs just to scout out what new finds may be there. read more

A very pleasant surprise on my trip to Boomerang's. I figured I would hop in here for a few minutes to check it out. And the first impression was impressive. They have CUTE dresses! And awesome sweaters! And what is with Goodwills and having sweet shoes? Their selection was pretty big (but not as big as the Davis square Goodwill). This place is light and airy for a thrift store and for a Goodwill that's something. I found a couple cute things, but most of it didn't fit me. :-( I bought a sweater ($4.99!), but now am having a touch of buyer's remorse and probably won't wear it often. I thought it was cuter at the store than it actually is. I hate when that happens. So, technically, I didn't fair too well on my first trip. So much potential though that I'm sure to be back. The prices were standard Goodwill prices with 50% color tags sales. The men's section was lacking. I was on a mission to find some shirts for my hubby and failed miserably. Also, the belts were overpriced at $3.99. Only a good buy for a good leather belt. One side note: They have a "high fashion" rack that is laughable. I'm not sure who is determining what is considered fashionable, but shirts from Talbot's, anything satin that resembled a prom dress and old looking stuff was marked up considerably. read more

While the store is well organized, I still feel like there wasn't a whole lot of room to move around the racks...& it was a bit difficult to find what I was looking for. As far as I can tell, they do not have a maternity section, but they do have a million guys' t-shirts. According to the cashier, they get shipments of children's clothing once a week & while they "boutique" price most items with tags still on, children's clothing does not fall into this category. Thus, while the selection seems to have been picked over if you are not around close to that day, you can still get brand new name brand items for $1.99. read more

I was very excited that this stored opened and could not wait to go there. I went there in the pouring rain (my fault) none the less, I could have NOT been more disappointed! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! a clay vase was friggn $30- Really...no, really? I could have went to Marshalls and go that same vase for less.. Everything seemed to be overpriced, and grossly... these items were donated to them for free, I think they forgot that! I mean, really?! It was very small, overpriced, and little to no good deals.. Granted that the Boomerangs nearby is quite a tough competition to this place, I still think that the Goodwill store does a pretty good job. I have recently rediscovered this place as a good source of great books and show pieces. The crockery collection is a little battered but you can still find treasure hidden in the rubble. I own a beautiful jewelery box that I purchased for just 3 bucks. And my friend found a brand new Fossil wallet for only $4. Sweet! It is also a good place to look for antiques; I spotted a beautiful hand-made leather bag there once, probably handed down for generations. You just have to keep your eyes open. Talking about the staff now: friendliest customer service. I accidentally broke a salt shaker once and they did not even charge me. They are also very patient with repeated requests of showing things behind the counter. Some of them are also quite knowledgeable about some of the articles. So, the Goodwill store in JP gets thumbs up from me for their efforts to help the community, excellent service and convenient location. Do help them out by dropping by. read more

I am generally unimpressed with Goodwill and this is no exception. Sure, there are sometimes some good or fun things. I just find the process of going through everything so tedious - I hate finding an awesome shirt in a color that I have been wanting only to find out that it's 3 sizes too big for me. I was there the other day, just browsing, and I noticed a measuring cup (back in the kitchen section) coated with sugar. Or salt. Either way, it was gross and made me feel kind of dirty. read more

First off let me just say that when it comes to clothes, I just about NEVER buy anything full price. I love finding a good deal not only on clothes but anything really. I love goodwill, PERIOD. Over the years of living in various parts of the Boston area, I have been to every location and shop at them so often that I know which location has the best selection of pants, household items, 1.99 t-shirt deals, and of course how the location can play a role in the type of clothing styles and name brands, generally speaking. This location, while on the smaller side does have a good selection of women's clothing. It is organized well by style and color, so if you are looking for something in particular ( short sleeve, tank, sweatshirt, skirt, etc) it is easy to find. Even though the store does, sometimes, have a weird smell, the clothes themselves do not, and is kept clean. The only consistent household items they always seem to have a large variety of are plates, mugs, glasses, and a smaller amount of pictures, frames, and random art. It's a hit or miss for all other household items. Definitely some great finds if you just look. read more

I absolutely LOVE this Goodwill. I'm so fortunate that my mom passed on her great thrift shopping skills to me! We came to this Goodwill a week or two after the grand opening and I was way too excited and pleased with the overall appearance of this store. Everything was color coordinated and sectioned off by categories. I believe they were selling sweaters for $6 and I must have purchased about 6 or 7! I seriously hit the jackpot. I couldn't stay away from the appliance section, and I didn't want to leave the store at all! I definitely plan to return and rack up on some more items! read more

though it had just opened, inventory was a little lacking. mostly unremarkable, normal thrift store garbage. does good will not do what (i think) most other stores do - save their best donations for a store that's newly opening to drive business and attract sales? this good will is mostly clothes. they are better organized (by color! which i love to walk by) than in most good will stores. however, their housewares / book section was a tiny, lacking, disorganized mess! bummer, because that's my favorite part. 1/2 an extra star for the adorable kid that followed me around while i browsed, though, i don't think he actually belonged to the establishment :) read more

Nice thrift store. Friendly staff and good selection which is rotated often. People say they compete directly with Boomerang, which is just down the street... but really since its a thrift store, I think people just go to one and then the other, looking for deals. The furniture here and at boomerang is a bit overpriced in my opinion. But the shoes and technology is usually fairly priced. I like to swing by both places looking for deals and to enhance my wardrobe for the cheap. Both places carry surprising level of name brand and good condition clothing and items. Like any thrift store, they're hit-or-miss. This Goodwill is pretty decent. They don't seem to have as many ugly 70's knick-knacks as most of the other ones I've been to, but they don't really have that many housewares. On the upside, they are -very- clean; one of the most immaculate thrift stores I've come across. The housewares section can sometimes be in disarray, but the clothing is generally clean, and the floors/counters/etc. look like they're regularly cleaned (more than I can say about most thrift stores!) I've scored some pretty awesome things here, such as a super-cute summer dress, bell-sleeved velvet bolero, and a complete stoneware tea set. The prices are generally okay. Not dirt cheap, but not that high either. It isn't my absolute favorite thrift store, but I always make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in the area. read more

I think this Goodwill suffers from being in JP. Namely, the clothing selection is extremely picked-over, especially the men's. I failed to find a single pair of pants that even slightly resembled something slim-fit, or even classic. Only baggy high-waisted dad jeans to be found here. And two conjectures about the dearth of good button-down shirts at this location: 1) Skinny hipster college kids snap up all the smaller sizes 2) Middle-aged lesbians take the bigger ones. Seriously. In other places, Goodwill is a treasure trove of vintage flannel shirts and such. Not so here. read more

Normally I have good things to say about this store, but not today. While looking at shoes, all of which were $9.99, I noticed a nice pair of New Balance sneakers marked $16.99. Since they were a size and a half too large for me, but still fit relatively nicely, I asked the manager why they were so much more than the other shoes. She said she didn't know why, and would see if she could find out why. Minutes passed, and she occupied herself by doing busy work while I waited. I asked again; she said she couldn't change the price. I asked why not, since they were $7 more than all the other shoes, and really, who else is going to buy a pair of size 14 sneakers? She wouldn't budge. My sister, who was with me, mentioned that she works p/t as a secret shopper for Goodwill, and that that just isn't true; prices changes are at the discretion of the manager. The stout, brown-hair manager lady looked very alarmed upon hearing this, and said, "maybe we need to raise the prices of ALL the other shoes from $9.99 then." VERY unprofessional, and NOT a good way to get more customers, especially when, at Goodwill, value is the name of the game. I love shopping at Goodwill! I must admit, I picked up my mom's shopping genes and it takes a bit of dedication to comb through a discount clothing rack, but the pay-off is worth it in the end. I have found some good deals on quality, name brand clothing at Goodwill. The best find to date is a black suit jacket I bought for a last minute job interview and I have got much wear out of that find! read more
