After hearing about this place more times that I can count on two hands, I walked in spontaneously. The reason I walked in was partly because I was sick of peoples reactions when I said I hadn't been, kind of like the reactions I get when I tell everyone I haven't seen The Godfather. Anyway, it was amazing, I love steak, I really do, I would have had a whole 14oz to myself if it wasn't for my very modest financial income at the time (the 14oz is 20 pounds). As well as sharing the 14oz steak with my girlfriend, we also shared the Empanadas, which are small Argentine pasties, one with beef and one with spinach & cheese. All of the food was great. The steak was incredibly thick and incredibly beautiful. As well as the delightful food, there is a large selection of wine from Argentina on offer. I will go again, hopefully I will go many times again. I would definitely recommend booking, we were very lucky to get a table just strolling in off the street.

After hearing so many good things about this Argentine restaurant I decided to try it for myself a few months ago. This is not the place to come if you are a veggi, for the menu comprises of meat meat and more meat! I ordered the 8oz grilled Argentine Sirloin steak for £10.50 which was cooked to perfection washed down with a glass of Malbec @ £3 a glass. Overall the place is very unpretentious and the food is great quality. Situated in the heart of Broadway Market, thumbs up!

That's for 3 people officially but will feed 4 easy.

Not a place for vegans and vegetarians for sure, but it is paradise for meat lovers. :) Have been here any times and we use them often for small company Xmas dinner. There is no better competition than who can eat more meat! They are not cheap but not crazy expensive and it's worth every penny. My favourite is the sharing plat for 3 people, but it is best when shared between 4 people, 4 for 4 would be too much. Next to great food the have good wine selection. They don't have many tables some make sure you book if you want to go there on a Friday night or Saturday evening. For Xmas dinners better to book few weeks in advance.

Top tip here señoras y señores, make sure you pre-book before rocking up and expecting to get a table. I showed up on Easter Monday, and managed to wing a table for two next to the toilets, adjacent to a drafty breeze. But enough of the pessimism, I've been dying to go to this revered restaurant forever and a day, not least because Carlitos Tévez and David Cronenberg have eaten here! Actually that's not the real reason, it's the sensational steak of course. Not one for carnivores, I opted for the Parrillada Deluxe (min. 2 personas) £23.00 (per person) comprising of 14oz prime Argentine Sirloin steak + 11oz grilled Argentine Rib-eye steak two Argentine-style pork sausages + black pudding + provolone cheese, served on a mini BBQ of charcoal. Absolutely no way an averagely proportioned woman (not a sexist jibe but appetite barometer) could scoff this lot down, infact the doggy bag is sitting in my fridge as I type! For a true Argentinian adventure, well worth a visit.

If the Gaucho Grill is the 18 stone bully of the Argentinian Steak House scene, kicking sand in everyone's face and making you think that they invented the art of grilling meat, then Buen Ayre is definitely the speccy nerd. Except that this speccy nerd really knows how to look after himself. If ever a man were born with a steak knife in his mouth, then that man must be Buen Ayre's co-owner, John P. Rattigan. Born to expat Irish parents, a nation not slouching when it comes to fine cattle husbandry, on a cattle ranch outside Buenos Aires, he eventually moved to the UK to set up Buen Ayre. His title is not Chef, but Asador - the title given to those Argentines who shoulder the heavy responsibility for the BBQ - the high priest who officiates over the holiest holy of Argentine cuisine. Buen Ayre is a steak restaurant. That much is clear. There is no point going here unless you too worship at the altar of meat. 45 covers only, it could sit quietly in the corner of one of Gaucho's barns. They run two sittings, 6.45pm and 9pm, and I'd advise the later one... trying to stagger through this quantity of meat in 2 hours is a challenge. The centre point of the rustic Hackney restaurant is the authentic parilla that takes pride of place in the bijoux open-plan kitchen. It's a huge metal grill, custom built in Argentina, on which the slabs of beef are stacked before being lowered onto a base covered in glowing charcoal. The sight of the grill, a bovine version of the Spanish Inquisition, groans with meats and sausages and serves to highlight why you're not here for the salad. I would describe the rest of the restaurant, but dear reader, I didn't notice it. Wood? Maybe some pictures? Sod it, I was here for the meat... Bread (standard white baguette and a couple of Jacobs crackers) was rescued utterly with a heavenly mix of blue cheese and butter to spread. God knows how good that would have been on nice bread. It came with a brace of homemade empanadas; crumbly buttery pastry cases like spicy Cornish pasties enclosing fresh, hot fillings, designed to take the edge off our hunger. I couldn't stop with the blue cheese mix, determined as I was not to ruin the steak to follow. We went for the Parillada Deluxe. A metal tray heated over some of those charcoals, served to your table with a selection of steaks, sausages and cheese (yes, cheese, I'll come back to that). The tray arrived dwarfing the diminutive server, the pair of steaks stacked precariously over the grill. The deluxe comes with a 14oz sirloin and an 11oz rib-eye, both served the rare side of medium rare (to the possible detriment of the fattier rib-eye), sizzling slightly on the plate. If this wasn't enough, the grill also contains two large sausages, disappointingly dry this time but I've been assured that this is a rarity, and four nuggets of a homemade spicy, crumbling black pudding. And a disc of creamy provolone cheese with a topping of dried herbs, sizzling away in a corner of the plate, pulled away in artery threatening lumps. Nice as it was, it felt somewhat extraneous, like they were really trying to fill you with as much fat as you could take. Vital, tasty, life affirming fat for sure, but I felt towards the end of the marathon a little like a force-fed goose. The meat for the record was good. Very good. And certainly one to wave under the nose of anyone who has ever uttered the sentence, "I never bother with steak, it's all too samey for me". I won't mention the char, or the marbling, or any of the other phrases that confirmed meatheads will bandy around, but will confirm that the flesh was deep red throughout and had the most beautiful, almost sweet, taste. We didn't have time for desserts, feeling slightly rushed at the end of our time slot. It's unlikely we'd have had room for any, but the option would have been nice. A swift espresso then instead, before rolling off into the Hackney night. I'll be back, and will find it hard to go back to the Gaucho after this. Have a look, you won't be disappointed.

parillada mixed grill. for two hungry kings of the jungle

soooooooo.much.meat. went with three people. thought we'd be good with ordering a parrillada mixed grill for two. for some reason we also ordered chips, salad, and a starter. turned out to be like a dead baby cow plunked on our table on hot coals. definitely could have fed a fourth or maybe a fifth person or maybe also a ravenously hungry hyena. it's all a little overwhelming, but also awesome. just go hungry. and carnivorous.

I knew it was pricy, but whew, I was not expecting that!! Color me shocked. As soon as we walked in and saw the dining area, we felt under-dressed for how fancy the setting looked. The lighting looked impressive, the dinnerware was extra sparkly, and the staff looked posh. But, as we walked in, we saw others in sweaters and sneakers. There is a free coat check by the receptionist before you are shown to your seat. She then walks you to your seat and provides the menu before your waitstaff greets you. The view of the bridge lighting up the night from inside is nice if you get a seat near the windows. Our table was more located in the center of the restaurant, but we were still able to have an okay view. Our server was Alessio. He asked for our drinks order: 1x glass of wine, 1x virgin pina colada, and later 1x virgin mojito, then when he returned, he asked if we plan on having steaks. Once I responded yes, he quickly disappeared...I was so confused before he pops back out with a tray of various cuts of steak (see attached image). He then proceeds to explain each cut and recommended pairings. After explaining, he disappears again, assumingly this time to take the tray back. He returned shortly afterward and took our dinner order. We ordered two cuts of churrasco Lomo (we actually wanted the ribeye steak, but I guess he heard otherwise. We didn't fuss.). The steak *was* ahhhmazing!! One steak, for the birthday boy, was topped with a half grilled lobster (yes, grilled lobster is listed on the menu as a "topping"), mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The other steak was accompanied with roasted vegetables. I'm not sure what type of vegetables were all there, but a few cubes were not pleasing to taste. The carrots, beet, and potato were good, though. While we were eating, a lady randomly came to our table and started pouring us more water. She did not introduce herself but instead asked if there was anything else we needed. She was dressed differently from the rest of the staff, so her presence was so confusing to me. She disappeared out of sight as quickly as she appeared, before I noticed her again at the receptionist desk. It was the weirdest interaction. Minus the unknown vegetables and the unknown lady, the food was great. The setting was great. There were two other parties there celebrating a birthday as well. I planned on having cake or some other dessert to celebrate, but we were entirely too full to even consider it. We didn't even finish our food and had to take some to-go. After we were done eating and decided we did not want dessert, I asked for the bill fully expecting mid-£100s, but was taken aback when I saw the actual amount. Keep in mind, too, 12.50% gratuity was also added. I'm used to automatic gratuity being added for parties of 5 or more, not for 2 people. Wow. Anyway, I paid and we left. Since we were there to celebrate a birthday, I was okay with the cost as I know it would be thee only time I went there. If you want, I would recommend trying it for a one-time experience, but I'm sure you can get similar food and experience somewhere else for a much better price.

We were immediately seated, despite not having a reservation on a busy Saturday evening. The waiter was quite helpful in providing menu information and even though we were seated upstairs we were always helped quite promptly. We had some (well quite a lot, actually haha) Argentinian wine: the waiter had knowledge but since we were not very sure, he offered a tasting portion of the ones we were considering! We first had a drink and some loaded nachos: the nachos were just a-ok, nothing too special but our cocktails were not bad, especially considering the happy hour price. As main I went for the 14 oz steak and a side salad (yay for being able to switch sides) which was cooked to perfection. This was honestly one of the better steaks I had in a long while. Even my friend who is not a big beef lover was impressed with the food. In addition, I forgot my scarf and I messaged them afterwards and they were super helpful to trace back my scarf. I am not often around Brick Lane but I will certainly considering going back and recommend Moo Cantina to everyone looking for a good steak meal in London.

The staff seem to have been transplanted over and the decor is much like the parrillas/ steakhouses I went to in Buenos Aires (relaxed and dark decor). Located near the back of Aldgate Station, the street was pretty empty in the evening and so it was not a surprise that we were first in the restaurant at around 6pm on a weekday. The decor here was pretty standard compared to their other branches which had a bit more colour to it. They went for the casual wooden bar look with dim comfortable lighting. Service was friendly and smiley which made us feel more welcomed in the empty restaurant. For food we went for the following: Argentina chorizo The meal started with the chorizo which was lovely and juicy, full of bounce and flavour unlike the supermarket ones you get. It was dressed with a slice of sweet red pepper which added a nice contrast of softness and drizzled over with chimichurri which added some tanginess from the vinegar and depth of flavour moving away from the red spices and to another variety of herbs that includes parsley and oregano. Provolone cheese A lovely rich cheese seasoned with spices before being grilled till it melted. They did however over salted it which made it hard to consume in large amounts, even with the accompanied toast. Fried beef empanadas Sometimes I still get cravings for their beef empanadas as its one of the best I've had. The pastry was crispy yet doughy and filled with a generous amount of minced beef, packed full of flavour and sweetness with the addition of vegetables and herbs used. Very juicy too. Baked sweet potato empanadas. Even more surprisingly was how good the sweet potato empanadas was. Soft velvety creamed sweet potato consistency in a more thin and delicate pastry. I really enjoyed the sensation of it all melting inside my mouth. Lomito Porteño I had to order their speciality dish, the Argentinian sandwich, similar to a panini being grilled too. We chose one with a rib eye steak in between and it was cooked medium rare as requested. It was good but I have had sweeter better seasoned steak. It was however saved by the other flavours. The salty provolone cheese gave it depth and seasoning whereas the addition of rocket and pepper add not only texture but a lighter refreshing taste. Napolitana lomito I much preferred this lomito. The beef being deep fried with a lovely herby batter gave the sandwich a greater flavour. The addition of ham made it more exciting and the mozzarella added bounce and helped wrapped everything together. All was finished nicely with the tomatoes and lettuce which gave it the moisture and lighter element it needed. Revuelto gramajo. What a great side to have. It was so moreish it was almost gone in an instant. Scrambled eggs with onions, peas and fries. It was fluffy, eggy, fragrant and warm. The ultimate comfort food. Highly recommended! Olivier salad Sadly this was disappointing. The dish consisted of potatoes, peas and carrots in mayo that tasted like it came out of a can. The peas didn't taste fresh and the mayonnaise was poor quality, lacking that rich eggy taste it needed. It was all under seasoned too. So overall the experience was good with some dishes really hitting the spot like the empanadas. For a chain it does well with reasonable prices. Although saying that they have made cuts, like their sandwiches no longer comes with fries. Just don't expect Wagyu steak and you can get a reasonable meal.
