Came here with my sister for a mid-week lunch. She (22 y/o) was seated first. Now, I don't necessarily think restaurants have an obligation here, but they asked her if she wanted still or sparkling and she said still assuming it would be free. Imo this is always a shady little tactic of restaurants but especially when dealing with a young adult who might not know better. Anyway it was a five quid slap in the face. We weren't super hungry so we ordered the steak salad (about £20) to share, the truffle mac and cheese side (£7.50) and the sweet potato side (£5.50). Steak salad was yummy but a terrible value. It was more like "small steak with overdressed side salad underneath". The steak was fab - cooked and seasoned perfectly - but when ordering a salad you want the salad to be the star which this certainly was not. Truffle mac was good but lacking in truffle flavour. Sweet potato was nice - had a great creme fraiche on it that added a lot. Waited ages for the bill to be brought out and when it finally was, there was an error on the bill that I had to wait for them to correct. Oh wow! As a self proclaimed Carnivore (think Vegetarian, but with meat instead of those measly veggies), I am always on the hunt for a quality steak. One thing that I had noticed was really lacking in London is good, high quality steak houses. A friend recommended we go check out Gaucho's. We headed there on a Friday evening and had no problems getting seated even though the place seemed pretty full. The service was really good, surprisingly enough. It was pretty cool when they bring out a board with all the different cuts of meat on them. I was originally going to get the Ribeye, but the waitress recommended I try the Lomo cut. Oh wow! Not only was this the best steak that I have had in London, hands down, it may have been one of the best I've ever had anywhere. I'm not going to lie as this was a bit of a surprise, seeing as there are several Gaucho's around town. Regardless, I had a great meal, it was pretty reasonable all around. I. Love. Cow. So as you might imagine, I was pretty excited when Gaucho was chosen for a work dinner. I mean, I just can't resist the allure of a good steak. Upon arrival, we were whisked upstairs to our table. We ended up with 10 people at a long table. I know you've got to work with what you've got, but it's always hard when you're at table like that - either you're at the end and can't hear the conversation, or you're in the middle and you can't figure out if you should be part of the discussion to your left or your right. So that was a bummer, but we booked last minute, so we can't ask much. We ordered a number of appetizers, and while they were good, only one was outstanding (a cheese cooked in pastry kind of thing). We tried a few of the empanadas, beef tamales, and a ceviche. Again, fine, but nothing that blew me away. Still, I'm not here for starters - I want a STEAK. I chose the Churrasco de Lomo - filet marinated in olive oil and garlic. I was SO looking forward to it. And it came out looking all beefy and marinated and delicious. And it was... kinda bland. I mean, the steak had a good flavor and all, but when I'm ordering something that's been marinated in garlic I expect not to be kissable for a couple of days. Not so. Again, still a pretty good steak, but not what I'd anticipated. There were a lot of business dinners going on here, and I can see why - this place is PRICEY. Upon arrival I was greeted and made to feel extremely welcome. I usually go to the Hampstead branch and always book a table in advance because they can get really busy. I did that again with this branch. So getting a table wasn't an issue. They came and placed the usual variety of breads on the table alongside the salt and pepper and bread dip. I can't complain. OK so let me start off with my cocktail. I got the smoked ginger which had a hint lemon to it and that gingery kick. I can only describe it as expensive ginger beer that tasted bloody awesome . My starter I can't remember what I had but I didn't like it.(useless I know!) My steak was ok I got rib-eye cut medium rare. They got the medium rare part just right. As a side I had the usual sweet potatos they did a little something that was different to the ones I had last time. I'm not complaining because what every they did worked. I couldn't breathe so unfortunately ended up having a 2 course meal and wobbled out of there looking and feeling like a pregnant woman. Oh I'd say you need minimum around £50pp. read more

If Gaucho is the height of your meat-eating sophistication, you need to try harder. This place was OK but for the price, should have been better. I have had unforgettable steak meals before but I literally cannot come up with any distinctive observations about my lunch here besides: my entree was meat and I ate some of it. What is amazing here are the CHEESE BREAD things and the sides. Oh my god they were so good. I could have been quite the happy camper with a meal of just the cheese bread and creamed corn. Sadly, most of my lingering observations are atmospheric and non-food-related but I guess that's often the case when you choose to line your walls with cowhide and onyx black facades. Yes, indeed, Scarface called and wants to know how long you plan on renting its 80s Miami decor. Why were all the hostesses dressed for clubbing? Were we going to start doing lines off the super reflective counter tops? Is this board of RAW MEAT you are showing me a health/safety violation? So many q's. Perhaps the best part of this Gaucho is its clientele. It's just all Blackberries, hos and CEOs. No big deal, just city lads eating meat (probably explains the decor, JUST SAYIN). read more

3.5 stars? Get out of my face! This place is fantastic and you know it. Yeah, it's expensive. So what? What are you doing here if you can't afford it? The selection of wine (especially red) is quite good, though they obviously lean heavily towards the Malbec. Given it's recent novelty status, though I feel like it has died down, there are a lot of overpriced bottles on the menu. Steer away from the pricy ones - truthfully, most Malbecs are very young and end up tasting quite similar. I've been here twice and had the Bife de Lomo (filet) both times. The Caipirinhas are good, too, for the record. They've got an array of sauces to choose from - not for your Caipy, come on, stay with me here! - and I actually really liked the fries, too. This is the place to take a girl you're trying to impress. Just be prepared for a £150 bill at the end of it. And a belly full of fine Argentinian beef. Over and out. read more

This is an expensive, but decadent eat out. Wow the decor is to die for - cow skin seats, mahogany tables very beautiful indeed. And the wine list? Oh my word! The wine list! Every type of Latin American and Spanish wine you can think of. And they are gorgeous wines! For Colombians - enjoy the complimentary pan de yuca while you wait for your mains. For meat lovers - this is the place where you can choose your bloody cut of meat before it gets grilled to perfection. For fish lovers - try the amazing variety of ceviches - I have never seen so many (or eaten so many either). Beautiful food right in the City - definitely worth a visit. Attending a business dinner. They were kind enough to give us there private room. The server were courteous and did everything to make us comfortable. The food was decent, but I was expecting more. We ordered empanadas which were good. Their beef preps were good, although smaller serving sizes by American standards. The ravioli was barely six pieces and definitely not enough food for one person. They also forgot my salad, and despite the reminder they.coukd not manage it till the end. We recently had a college friend's going-away dinner at Gaucho, and I have to say it was a great experience. The entire place has a very mellow vibe with minimalist lighting and the cowhide decor was appropriate. The platter of delicious steaks helps you make an informed decision on what actually you want to binge on. (Warning to all fellow Americans: if you are not familiar with metric weight, you may end up like one of the dudes I ate with and get a 1.2 kilo steak, which equates to something you'd see in one of those steakhouses in Texas where they dare you to finish it and it's free.) Service was great and the staff really knows what they are talking about, I mean, the cooks are actually from Argentina so you know it's good. A bit in the pricey range but definitely worth it if you are looking to engage your lust for meat. read more

Came here again after almost 5 years early on a Thursday night. So so so glad i came back! The restaurant was empty and we had a lovely seat in the corner to get a good view of people coming in. But we weren't people watching; we were eating - a lot! I had the lemon sole ceviche followed by the 300g fillet steak with thick chips. Omg it was all so fantastic! the ceviche was tangy and light as it should be. The steak though was the star as you would expect. It was a gorgeous piece of meat and was marbled. I have never seen a marbled fillet before. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I can honestly say it was up there with one of the best steaks I have ever tasted. I ate it all which is unheard of. The recommended Malbec was just delicious. I was tempted but i skipped pudding as i was incredibly full. The staff was universally friendly and very very good. Absolutely loved this experience. Brilliant. Can't wait to go back. read more

Never had a clue about Argentinian steak until Gaucho Grill... I am contemplating a trip to SA even now...

I went to the Gaucho Grill in Canary warf when it first opened. I was really impressed with the steaks, the bar and the decor. The service was also very good and the location made this a great spot in the summer as it sits close to the Thames. I returned last friday for the first time in a good few months. I wasn`t very impressed with the new decor. It all looked a bit blingy to me. The black wall covering contrasted with the white leather chairs and the chintzy ceiling lights. It felt like sitting Puff`s Daddies limo! It all shouted far too loudly for me. I prefered it when they had the cow hide and polished wood. The curved sweeping bar was far more impressive than the current model. We arrived early but where quickly seated. We had the usual display from the waitress who produced a tray full of uncooked meats and talked us through the various shapes and sizes. We did try to stop her as we`ve all eaten there several times before but she was almost robotic with her reportoire and it seemed easier to let her get on with it. The staff try a little too hard to please and border on pushy when they try and sell you the expensive sides and desserts. The steaks where very good as usual and nobody left a single morsel. The side orders didn`t live up to the standard of the meat and the watery chimmichurri was discarded. I ordered sauted mushrooms and a mashed sweetcorn that tasted unnaturally sweet. We shared a dessert of pancakes and ice cream which was passable. The wine list is impressive but expensive. I was slightly annoyed at the waitress who didn`t return with our change. We all paid by cash and there was around £25 left over. We would have left her a tip but I think she might have been a little too eager to get her hands on our money. The practise here is just a little too sharp these days. A bit like the decor.... I won`t be back anytime soon. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but I had to write about this. The service was subpar and the food was mediocre at best and a lot of staff mess ups to top it all off. Gouchos was recommended to us by a friend for the steak and we made sure we got a table while visiting London. At the end of our meal I can confidently say that we won't be going back The main problems I had were 1) The hostess invited us to the table from the bar and once we got up, she didn't know where our table was and left us hanging to find that out. 2) once we got to the table we were waiting at least 10 mins to get some attention and a menu 3) once we knew what we wanted the waitress took at least 10 more mins to take the Order 4) The steaks were ok, but not worth the price. We got the 400g marinated fillet and The special cut marinated sirloin. The presentation was the same as you'd get at a roadside bar and the flavour was 5/10 at best 5) We ordered coffee and desert. The coffee arrived a good 10 mins after the desert. I could see the waitress trying to get the cappuccinos ready, seemed inexperienced. She tried to clear out my plate many times despite the desert still being on the plate and my fork clearly showed that I wasn't done. 6) To top it all off the hostess wasn't able to find our jackets and I had to go into the cloakroom to fetch them. The meal cost 135£ and for that money I expect significantly better service and food. I would not recommend this restraunt and won't be going back to Gauchos. read more

You can't really go wrong with a Gaucho restaurant. Although part of a chain, it doesn't feel that way once you're seated and being walked through all the amazing cuts of beef by your attentive server. Be sure to try the Humita Saltena :) Also a great spot for a few cocktails! read more

I didn't expect to try my first Argentinean restaurant in London, but I went to Gaucho Grill with a friend last night and had a very enjoyable and tasty experience. Decorated with wall-to-wall leather and spotted cowhide, you feel like you are stepping into a classy, 21st century saloon. The dark lighting, crystal chandeliers, and mirrors give the place an exclusive, almost club-like atmosphere. While I was impressed by the doorman who let us in, took our coats, and led us to our table, I was under impressed by our actual server. Although she was extremely efficient, it was almost too efficient and was not that personable. The manager did come by and talk to us for a while, which let me know that we were valued patrons. The food was fantastic. I got the sirloin with mustard sauce, which was very flavorful and expertly cooked. Check out their extensive wine list, complete with rare and fines, there is sure to be something there for every palate. If you are going to Gaucho for a date, make sure your date isn't a vegetarian and enjoys meat, as Gaucho is not a vegetarian friendly restaurant. Had a really disappointing meal here. My friends food was decent, not amazing in their opinion. My steak was extremely undercooked. I asked for medium rare and it was straight up raw on the inside. I asked them to put it back on because of it, something I almost never do, and when it came back they had re-put it back on but it was just as raw on the inside, they must have just barely re-seared it. Well to be honest, I thought the food was ok but nothing special. I was in a large party, we had starters which came as a shared platter. We also had some midget pasties which were reasonably tasty. The waitress brought around a board showing the different meats and 'instructed' the diners on which could be eaten well done or not. This was fair enough but a little unnecessary. The restaurant itself had an unusual décor of what appeared to be cow hide fur walls, to be honest it all felt a bit like a London Night club from the 80's- put it this way Barry White would have been comfortable. Predictably the prices were how shall we say, a tad high. It may be me but I can't see the point of this place. If I want to eat steak I don't need a preview of the uncooked version. Yum yum. And you don't have to like cow to like this place! I went with a big group of family while in town for a few days. Cool lounge for some opening drinks. Then we were escorted to a nice corner booth. Good thing, it provided good table space for the plates of meat that were ordered. I did not partake in the red meat but let's just say there were some trouser buttons popped open and some stretching done at our table in order for the guys to squeeze in just "one more bite". Gaucho just seems like a slightly dated concept now - very dark and dingy interior. They show you the steak just to show you what a sirloin etc looks like, albeit its not the one you would be eating. The steak is reasonable but there are better places like Hawksmore. read more
