A Saturday evening outing with another couple seemed like a nice idea. Our friends suggesed a favorite of their's, and we met at Bud's. It turned out to be an excellent idea. We were seated right away by the friendly staff, and our drink orders were quickly fulfilled. The Italian menu is extensive and from our choices, delicious. Shrimp Scampi, Open Steak on toast, and Marinated Chicken on rice were our choices. Everyone was pleased with their meals, and enjoyed desserts from their tasty selection. The atmosphere is cozy, wait staff friendly, and the prices resonable. I recommend Bud's for a meal or a stop at their well stocked bar for a drink. This place has the absolute best pizza ever. Probably an 8.5 or higher on the Dave Portnoy score. Thin crust, great cheese to sauce ratio, could use a little more crisp but it's fine. The restaurant has a warm pleasing interior and the staff couldn't be more pleasant. They have lots of other Italian dishes on the menu but you'll be hard pressed to find better pizza. The only downside side is it's a cash only establishment and I haven't carried cash to the past 10 years but there is an ATM out front so only a minor inconvenience. I absolutely love this place. Have been a few times now. Wasn't impressed with the lobster ravioli. The homemade spaghetti is ok, usually id always pick homemade over boxed/imported, but not here. BUT the sauce is excellent. The meatballs are some of the best I've ever had. Tuna steak was excellent. I wish they offered Caesar (Iv'e never eaten in an "italian type" restaurant that didn't offer Caesar, but the blue cheese is the best I've had anywhere!!!! GET THE MUSHROOM MILANESE PIZZA!!!!!! As a native NYer (NYC), I have had the best and worst of pizza. This one is outstanding!!!!! Thin, crispy crust, but not just the edges, the actual underneath crust stays crispy!!!! WOW. The mushrooms are fresh and the sauce is unreal. Trust me, if you like mushroom pizza, you MUST get this!!!! First time trying Bud's Place. My parents took me recently discovered it and are now fans, so they were excited to take me here. My first impression on walking in was that the place was so cozy! Warm wooden interior, lots of pictures and (for lack of a better word) knick-knacks on the walls, stained-glass hanging lamps, and festive holiday decoration. We arrived shortly after 6 on a Thursday and were seated right away, but it kept getting busier after we arrived and I think there was a group or two waiting when we left. But our waitress was very nice and didn't rush us at all! Food was excellent! The salad and bread was a good start - the house Italian dressing was very vinegary which I like, and although the bread didn't look like anything special, it was fresh and warm and soft inside, and delicious soaked with that dressing. I had the Orange Roughy for my entree. The fish was flaky and the crab meat stuffing was tender and rich, and with the sauce, every bite seemed to melt in my mouth. So good! Everyone's entree came out freshly cooked and piping hot. Finally, I finished with the Homemade Cheesecake with strawberry sauce, which was also mind-blowingly good. The texture was uniquely both fluffy and creamy. The crust was angel food cake which was really cool! With the strawberries it reminded me of strawberry shortcake. Also it was a huge slice, you could definitely split it two ways and still get a good serving. I had to get some help from my parents to finish mine even though I was tempted to just keep going. The prices here are really good value for the large portions and quality of what you get. The food could have been from an upscale place and we all left very full. Note that if you're not a meat-eater, it's definitely possible to get a good meal here, but you'll just have to be careful. Their signature pasta sauce is made with pork (which is explained in their story on the front of the menu but not inside with the item descriptions), and the salad contains pepperoni(?) slices by default (which the menu does not tell you) - so choose something without the red sauce, and I'd recommend letting your server know you want to avoid meat. When I asked my waitress about meat in the sauce, she went to the kitchen to check, but I didn't ask about the salad because I didn't know, so my salad did come out with meat, which was okay because my dad wanted it, but I wish there was a note in the menu. This place is a staple in the area. The food is very good with nice sized portions. It has your typical Italian restaurant menu. GREAT PIZZA!! If you're in the area, I would recommend it, (for the food) for sure. I'm knocking off two stars for two reasons: they don't take credit cards and secondly, the tables are WAY too close together end to end. Like a foot apart. One night my wife and I and another coupe, debated on going there due to the need to pay cash. We decided to go even though we needed cash. We walked in and we're promptly seated. Our table was uncomfortably close to the table next to us. It was as if the women at the table next to us were part of our party. We then had our second debate of the night: "Do we stay or go?" We left. To their defense, they do have booths, but I myself don't like booths and find them cramped and uncomfortable. But this a still doesn't detract from the fact that the tables are close to the point that you can't even carry on a private conversation if you wanted to. read more

It was my first time at Bud's Saturday night. I'd heard they have excellent pizza, so we thought we'd give it a try. We found a seat at the bar, which was nicely decorated and felt as though it was "new". The bartenders (I'm 99% sure they were also the owners) were super friendly and engaging. The male went out of his way to speak to us and keep us happy. Even brought complimentary chips and dip to snack on while we waited for our pizza. The pizza itself was perfection. Thin, cheesy, with just the right amount of grease on top. Angry Orchard and Labatts were on tap so we were happy customers! I did venture over to the restaurant side. Seemed a little dated, unlike the bar area. Also, they didn't take credit cards, but had an ATM on sight. Very rare not accept cards and we weren't aware until it was time to pay. Went in around 6 pm on a Saturday, hoping to still have prime rib. It was listed on the board of specials. We were greeted by a pleasant women and seated in the bar area with menus, and told our server would be right over. Had more then enough time to look over the menu, even changed my mind a couple times while waiting, as they do have a large menu of yummy sounding dishes. A good ten minutes and we were finally offered to put in our drink order. We said we were also ready to order dinner. The server asked if we'd seen the board with specials and we said we had. She then said they were actually out of the prime rib. Not the end of the world, not it would be nice if on the board it was erased or a line drawn through... Just some way to indicate it was no longer available. The server said she'd grab our drinks (two bottled beers) and be right back to take our order since we needed to choose another entree. A good ten or more minutes went by, though, and still no sign of our server. Not in our nature to leave after placing any order at all, but since we could see that the beers hadn't been taken out of the cooler, therefore unopened, we did leave. Love going to Buds Place, I do the happy dance when my wife suggests we go out to eat there. There are a few places to eat in Apalachin, Buds Place is by far the best. It is worth the drive from Owego or even Binghamton. My typical go-to meal there is the open face ribeye, but the prime rib is good too if you are fortunate enough to order it in time. We went here when my husband and I were visiting our family for Thanksgiving. My family and I have been coming to Buds since I was a little girl and have never had a bad meal. On this occasion we all had pizza and salads and we all ate until we could eat no more. The pizza is thin and crispy and always makes you want more. This hidden gem has a few surprises. Bud's is what I call a local joint.. where you will find most patrons are locals. It lacks in many ways. Its not fancy or elegant. It is rather small. It does offer some solid food at very reasonable prices. My personal recommendations are manicotti if you are in the pasta mood, or the marinated grilled pork chops (excellant!). Either one of these dishes are worth a visit. Unfortunately, they are accompanied by a weak, iceberg salad, and some warm, but lacking bread. Honorable mention to the thin-crust pizza. I've lived about 10 miles from Bud's Place for nearly 30 years and never went there. People around here kept telling me how great it was. The waitress we had was the best waitress I've ever had serve us, fastest, had about 10 tables. Unfortunately the food was just not that great. I got fish swimming in butter and it had a crab stuffing. Everything was served with mushrooms. I hate mushrooms so I asked for them to be left off, which they were. But the stuffing was yucky. We got some kind of chocolate peanut butter pie. It had Hershey's syrup out of a can on it. Ugh. Would have been better without it. My husband got some kind of steak, he said it was so chewy he couldn't eat more than half of it. My son had pasta, that was good (not great). My husband and I stopped into Bud's Place tonight for dinner. This is my 4th visit, and normally we really enjoy our meal, but tonight, it was horrible. We both ordered the prime rib, as we have in the past, expecting to have an excellent meal. I don't know if they have a new cook, or what, but it was just plain bad. We both ordered our meat cooked to medium, and the waitress brought us both very rare steaks, I sent mine back, and she returned with an overcooked steak, definitely close to well done, and if you can't handle cooking steak, you shouldn't be trying to work as a chef. Other than not being cooked to the right doneness, it was totally lacking in any flavor, and about 40% fat. We also felt rushed, and the waitress brought our meal less than 5 minutes after she left our salads, and just piled the dishes on the extremely small table, making it a rather uncomfortable eating situation. I surrendered my salad before being done, as I needed the room for my main course, she also never offered to refresh our drinks, or even stop by so we could ask her to. Traveling from NYC we visited my parents for Labor Day wknd where we spent the day up at the Finger Lakes! Coming home late on a Sunday we didn't feel like cooking so we called around and Bud's place was still open until 10PM. We were thrilled. My boyfriend and I drove there to have a drink at the bar and order our food for take out. The bartender was exceptionally polite and welcoming. The service was quick as we ordered our drink and then take out. The price was great and the bar they just redid almost a year ago is so nice. Our food came out quickly and was still hot when we opened it up at home. My parents said that was the best pasta they have had in a long time! Which says a lot as Endicott is a small Italian town filled with family owned restaurants. We were so pleased for Bud's still being open, the great staff, and the incredible food!
