Oxnard Airport location. This place sucks. AVOID! Lazy, unhelpful, and negligent to the point of providing dangerous driving conditions. They do not check their cars for the most basic of things, even safety. Check your tires before leaving, as I got a car with a flat and other tires not inflated properly. Of course by the time I really started to notice I was hours away, and they will not help! Another time the car had a piece of the mudflap with screws from a prior renter's mishap stuck in the wheel well, rubbing against the tire. Again, I did not notice until well underway, thinking that the car was just a cheap noisy one. They do not fill up their cars with gasoline, and will tell you at check out that it is full. MAKE SURE TO CHECK before leaving. They do not clean their cars! Unbelievably disgustingly dirty. I spent half an hour cleaning it before I could use it. read more

Budget rent a car was by far the worst experience I've ever had renting a car. We rented at LA airport to drive home. I reserved a full size sedan but all they had when we got there was a kia cube. The car was extremely dirty with bugs smashed all over the outside and windshield. The inside was covered in animal hair and set off allergies big time. The back seat looked and smelled like someone or something puked all over it. Customer service at pickup and dropoff spots was terrible. I will never use this terrible rental service again. Do NOT rent from here! RUDE! Returned to the car to Thousand Oaks on Saturday morning after having a horrible experience at LAX. I asked the man working to verify what I was billed since I was not given a copy of the agreement at LAX; he said he could not make any changes to the contract and that he would send me an e-receipt but that he needed to reboot his computer; after patiently waiting for approx. 10 mins. for the reboot, I asked how much longer it would be. And yes, at this point I am annoyed. He told me I needed to change my tone of voice and that I was threatening him. I never threatened him in any way and told him I did not appreciate the way he was talking to me. After another 5 mins. he finally gets the computer booted and sends me a receipt showing I was overcharged by $40 and tells me I have to call customer service to correct. What a hassle! Would leave zero stars if possible. Made a reservation and when I went to pick it up they tried to give me a smaller vehicle than I paid for. They found me a the full size SUV I reserved but the air conditioning didn't work. In Florida. They gave me a credit (for two of the four days) which I just tried to use. I have been trying for weeks, the customer service people have disconnected me six times over three days. And only when I start asking questions so I can plan my pickup or ordering. This is a Budget - Avis rental desk. I made a same day reservation online via the app. I tried to book with a different Avis but the app informed me that location was booked up and since my reservation was able to process at THIS location I figured it would be ok. When I went to pick up the guy at the front desk told me he didn't have any vehicles in the size I ordered. He then said he could give me the next size up but I would have to pay the difference. Something I didn't want to do 1. Because the rental price was already higher than usual for a one day 2. It's not MY fault they don't have the vehicle I reserved and 3. They didn't bother to contact me before I drove out there. I ended up cancelling my "reservation" and renting from a different place. If you have any trouble with a Budget car this is what one will face with corporate when trying to solve the problem. Rented car with full coverage and 2 drivers so my son (29) could drive the car. Car broke down. Car replacement broke down this time in a parking garage at midnight. Son called towing service # on car key and they wouldn't give a time estimate to pick up car. An hour later garage was closing so they left and took Uber home. ($100.) Next day was told car was towed. Three days later Budget called, they couldn't find car and it was our responsibility. REMEMBER-we had full coverage that included theft? Couldn't get hold of supervisor, return phone calls from Budget only after days and many many phone calls, nobody could help and it still isn't resolved. Hold and charges on our credit card. HOURS and hours trying to sort this out. Nobody would give us a supervisor. When a supervisor called they couldn't do anything. We have a recording of towing company saying they towed the car. Budget said no and we were responsible because my son left the car in the garage. He was with fiancé in deserted garage at 1 am being told by security they had to leave. What was the alternative? Any help ideas are welcome. AN aside but not related to corporate interactions: first car had scratches, 3/4 of a tank of gas, and 43,000 miles. I PAID FOR AND RENTED A CAR ONLINE. When I went to pick it up, they said the car was not ready. SO I waited about 30 min. Mind you this was my birthday and we were to head out to vegas for the weekend. When they were finally ready to book me, they asked for a credit card, which I no longer have. whats wrong with a debit? the money is there! So he tells me that I will have to pay a larger deposit if I use my debit card. I said ok, So I hand him my debit card, he returns it to me with a little paper saying I was denied service due to a low credit score. wtf, I have to do a credit check just to use my damn debit card??? The car was nice and clean (and under 18k miles). The staff was nice and helpful. They talked through with me to note the scratches on the care beforehand so I would know they were there and that I didn't do them upon my return. I had a few minor issues after I left the lot (smell, noted scratch, issue with key) and I called on each one and was helped and reassured to my satisfaction. They also work with my insurance company which is great to help me get a discount in addition to a coupon as car rentals are obviously not cheap (but they were the cheapest by comparison). The employees I dealt with were very nice, helpful and actually really funny! To the people complaining about no pet hair...rules are rules, just don't do it or pay the $250 deposit or go to another rental company. I have dogs I would have loved to pop in the car but I didn't. For the multiple complaints about waiting, it might just have been a timing issue. I picked up a car around 10 am on a Sunday and returned it around 9 am on a Monday and both times I was in and out in about 20-25 minutes. CONS (so as not to completely mislead you) *The car smelled funky..like a Vegas hotel...maybe cigarettes with mildew? They are non smoking but you can't stop everyone ha ha. I rolled down the windows and got an air freshener and the smell was gone in less than a day. *I don't like the $100 deposit fee but again, that is part of their rules. If you don't like it, don't sign it and go somewhere else. Eventually it will be returned to your card or drop off. *They didn't go over in great detail the scratches on the car with me and it was raining when I picked it up so I didn't see a big scratch until the next day (but I asked them and they said it would be fine.) *I picked up on a Sunday morning and dropped off on Monday morning which to me is 7 days but they seem to count the drop off day as a rental day which i really disagree with and I will follow up on. *I don't like the extension fee of $10 so I ended the reservation and created a new one for drop off and pick up on the same day. They ended up giving the same car back to me that I was checking in because it was bigger than what they had to offer (which was still a midsize SUV). It was an unnecessary hassle to me but the car insurance co. wont cover the extension fees so I had to process it this way. PROS *I liked the car itself, it was a Hyundai Santa Fe and I asked for a midsize SUV so that worked out and I might even consider buying one LOL. *It had unlimited mileage *I actually received a prorated refund upon return of the car (not counting the $100 deposit) because I overpaid online when I initially booked it. *All of the fees are clearly laid out online if you book online. I can't speak for if you request a car in person. *All of the employees I personally met with were nice and helpful and friendly, not to mention understanding about any problems I was worried about with the car or issues I thought might be perceived to have been caused by me (especially after reading these reviews). After reading all of these reviews I almost feel like my experiences although not perfect are still too good to be true. Budget agent spent about one hour looking for car keys for a Nissan Altima which was not even on the lot. He had nothing to satisfy my request. Costco needs to check out their referrals. I really appreciate his kindness and great attitude. The cars have always been under 10,000 miles so far.. and I drive with complete confidence. They are usually very clean inside and out. AWFUL!! Avoid this place like the plague! First off, it's important to understand that this is a FRANCHISED operation. Even though it's at the airport and deceivingly has the Budget name, it is individually owned and operated, and Budget has little to no authority over them. This business owner is the biggest penny-pincher ever, and you will end up with an overused and poorly maintained car if you rent from these people. If you have any experience with car rental, you'll notice that you typically get new or near-new vehicles. The mileage tends to be low (usually under 10,000, and often under 5,000), the vehicles are well-serviced and maintained, and basically you're getting a car that you can feel comfortable driving in remote areas without fear of a breakdown. NOT HERE! I booked a minivan through the Budget website. I did this several days in advance, and the car had unlimited mileage. HALF AN HOUR BEFORE I WAS SCHEDULED TO PICK UP THE CAR, the guy at the Budget desk called me to warn me that the car was restricted and could only be driven in 3 STATES! That's right -- unlimited mileage, but 47 of the 50 states were restricted. I had not heard anything about this, nor did my confirmation e-mail say anything to this effect. I almost canceled the reservation right there, but the guy talked to the owner and got him to agree to let me drive in Utah (one of the restricted states) since I was renting for 10 days and was spending so much money. I thought everything was settled, and came down at about 4:30 to pick up my minivan. I couldn't believe what I saw. First, I was told I would be getting a much lesser Kia Sedona instead of the Dodge Grand Caravan that I booked. Their excuse was that the site says "Dodge Grand Caravan or similar", and that the Sedona was "similar". Ugh. Bad sign already. The first vehicle they offered me had 38,000 miles on it! I have never seen a rental car even close to that mileage in my life. I asked if they had any other minivans available with less mileage. The guy checked and said that there was one with 28,000. That was also high, but I was desperate and willing to take it. I went out to inspect the vehicle, and IT HAD A BALD TIRE ON IT! I am not kidding. One of the tires was completely out of tread. I showed the guy at the desk, and he agreed. He told me he would give me his last remaining Sedona instead, which had 34,000 and better tires. I went to look at that one. Those tires weren't bald but actually had HOLES IN THE RUBBER. That is, the rubber of the tires of coming off in various places, almost as if it had been punctured various times. No way I was taking that! He looked at that and agreed that it also needed tire work. HOW ARE THEY RENTING THESE VEHICLES TO PEOPLE IN GOOD CONSCIENCE??? Finally, he walked me to the 38,000 mile Sedona, and bragged how the tires were new. Yes, the tires did look good (finally), but I was nervous about the high mileage, and especially about their maintenance procedures. If they let those other two minivans run on tires in that condition, I figured that they were probably cheaping out on maintenance, too. I asked for maintenance records. The guy couldn't provide them, but said he would call the owner and see if the owner could fax them. The owner got on the phone with me and was generally rude and short with me. He seemed afraid to go through the "trouble" of faxing the maintenance records over, fearing that I would reject the rental if I saw them. I finally asked him what he was concerned about. "Ummm... well... would it bother you if I haven't owned the vehicle the entire time? If I bought it used?" That was when I gave up. This was just too much, and I no longer trusted any of those cars. Let's review: - Vehicles had very high mileage (28,000-38,000) compared to other rental companies - 2 of the 3 vehicles offered to me had unsafe tires -- bald or damaged - Was given a Kia Sedona instead of a Dodge Grand Caravan that I thought I was paying for - Vehicles were bought used, very possibly at auctions, and very possibly had a very questionable history All of the above adds up to an owner who does everything as cheap as possible, and hopes that the sucker renters won't notice, because he has the credibility of an airport and the Budget name. Made a prepaid reservation online which went smooth. The day I went to pick up the car the agent tried to give me a car with 4 bald tires to drive my family hundreds of miles up the CA coast. I let him know I wasn't going to take that car and he then tried to give me another car with 2 bald tires. The tires also had chunks taken out of them, very unsafe. I told him that car was unsafe as well. He then charged me an upgrade fee to take the only car that was left because it was in the next class up from what I had reserved. What a dick! I am sure he just gave the cars to the next people that failed to look closely. I hope no one gets hurt. Not that he cares. read more

The one agent who solely handles all budget and Avis rental gave away my reservation, even though I called an hour beforehand to confirm my reservation. They claimed to not have had my contact information, even though I showed them proof. Regardless, my reservation that I made over a month in advance was given away and I received no compensation - even after calling customer service. They had to make a brand new reservation as if I walked up for the first time and they gave me a horrible rate, worse than what they had online for the same car. Avoid Budget Oxnard and Luis who works in the mornings at all costs. He is a tyrant. Because of his pressure and accusations, I kept my car 5 more days in order to not have to deal with him. He wanted me to spend 75.00 to have it detailed. There were breadcrumbs on the floor and a few on car seat. My original location never told me I had to wash and vacuum it, just fill it with gas. I did fill it with gas, but he said it was only touching the full line and that it needed to be above the full line. Luis also went a second time and looked. He found a microscopic white mark on the driver door which apparently had been there. I would know if Id scratched it. He said I needed to pay someone to have that buffed out. You couldn't even see it after I wet the spot down. He also wrote in the computer the car was nasty and had sand in it. I had not gone to the beach or anywhere with sand. There were bread crumbs on the floor in the passenger side. But nothing that couldn't have been vacuumed. I was outraged by this guys demands and accusations. I was crying by the end of the encounter...Decided that night I would just take it back to where I'd rented it and pay for extra 5 days so not to get stuck with this abusive dork. If I could give no stars!!! They rented me a VW Beetle very nice but confusing when you turn off. I couldn't get the lights to shut off. My sister found a switch and everything shut off. The next day the car was completely dead. I missed my presentation and drove six hours for nothing. I called for assistance at 6:46 it is 8:36 n still waiting. The operator waited an hour to send the guy out because he just called an hour go and called as soon as he got the order. Unbelievable. I called the rental office and Luis said "well I can't drive up there and jump it myself/I have a line of people" pretty much didn't care n was super rude. This place is unbelievable. I called to make a reservation and he told me it would be $15 a day and $15 more to add another driver. We get there to pick up the car and he tells me it's going to be $27 and $27 more to add another driver. I tried to change the reservations for less days because I only had enough money for what he originally told me which was $15 a day. He wouldn't let me change the reservation so I had to pay $50 to cancel it. Now I'm stuck without a car. read more

RIP OFF! We rented a standard size SUV for a two-week road trip up the west coast. The car worked fine on the trip, other than the satellite radio we paid for was not hooked up and we had to spend time on the phone getting a signal sent to the car. Upon return, the Budget counter clerk informed us that the car was excessively dirty and we would be charged an extra fee. The sign on the counter read that there would be a $250 charge for returning an excessively dirty car. THIS CAR WAS NOT EXCESSIVELY DIRTY!!! (See my photos!) It had been driven for 2 weeks and needed a car wash but that was it! No mud, no stains, no smoking in it, nothing more than what any car looks like 2 weeks after being washed. I took the car to a car wash. Now, if it was excessively dirty, would a regular car wash get it clean?! This place is a rip off! They just want customers to clean the car so they don't have to and they can rent it out again, already cleaned by the customer. Please see my photos and beware. 1.) No matter what your card is, you are charged a $200 holding fee. Sign at the counter clearly states Visa and Mastercard ATM will be charged a holding fee. My credit card was charged and shows the hold days after returning the car. 2.) Attendants make up things. Contract states return at full level. I return at full level. There is no need to go into further argument why putting in gas the day prior is somehow unacceptable to these people Utter bull. If it's full, it's full. That's it. It was not 1/8 below full. 3.) They don't close the contract out when you return the vehicle. I returned it, I got no receipt. My contract was to yesterday and I was told I could return it early. Yesterday they said fine, today nothing. I called customer service multiple times on the issue, they stated, "it can take 48 hours for them to close it." WTF. Really? Taking this to Costco. The only reason WHY I rented here. 4.) Budget doesn't care on brand reputation. It's a franchise horribly ran. Reason why desks near it are clearing out. If you have horrible workers that don't even wear a name badge to work, you are the floor of any type of customer service. The drive through at a Taco Bell is more literate and polite that this jerk. 5.) Get somewhere else. I rented from Enterprise for work and never had this level of service. This place should have 0 stars thanks to Henry's total lack of customer service. We returned a car here on Sunday 2/9/20 and were accused of having dog hair in the car in front of other customers. Embarrassing. Especially because it was the same dog hair that we asked Henry to clean up when we picked the car up. On the day my wife picked up the car he was complaining that the guy that was suppose to clean the car did a crappy job and now he had to do it. I wont say what he said he was going to do to the guy. I hope the District manager reads this and realizes what employees like Henry do to their business. To accuse someone wrongly and to cause a scene in front of other customers is horrible. I have used Budget for ALL of my rental car needs but no longer. After being told I couldn't extend my rental 2 hours because their office would be closed and that I couldn't use their after hours drop box, I had to extend my rental for 2 days (because I wasn't available to return it the next day). The corporate agent asked me when I would be returning it on Sunday the 8th, and I said 4:30 pm. No problem. When I went to drop the car off on Sunday at 4:30p, the location was already closed and I had to use their drop box which they said wasn't available. What? So I called to request a refund for the add'l 2 days since I would've used their drop box on Friday that in fact was available. Corporate customer service and the on duty manager basically told me I was out of luck. I extended it and so I was responsible for the rental. The manager was terrible. After arguing my case for about 10 minutes, she offered me a "good will" refund of $20.50 off of a $300 rental! I will not be using Budget again. read more

He seems unhappy in his job and takes it out on customers. We made a reservation and just because we were little late he said our vehicle was not available anymore and if we wanted a similar type of vehicle we would have to wait longer because the vehicle wasn't ready. He was rude to a customer in front of us as well. He tried to upgrade us to another vehicle if we needed right away for $57 more. He tried to argue with us and said well your reservation was at 9 you showed up late that's out of my control. He tried to make us feel bad. We ended up leaving not renting car and plus he said as we walked away he refused to do service with us. I have been dealing with car rental services since i started driving because my car always had issues and once again when I was getting my car fixed we needed a rental and this was the worst mistake coming here they not only do not explain their hidden fees they also over charge you when your in a rush!!! Taking advantage of people daily. We called corporate to make a formal complaint about being over charged and then at which point they also let us know he didn't explain the loss damaged waiver giving an additional fee. Then when we come to return the vehicle he said it smelled like smoke when neither of us smoked at all. When he made us go check the car and was upset we said it smelled like a new car. He refused to give us his name or the price we had to pay he circled it on the sheet he had and threw it towards us I've never had someone treat us like that . The car was a new Nissan Versa, it was clean and not smoked in, so that was good. My issue is that the fuse to the charging ports was removed so we could not charge our phones or use the i-pod. I think they do that so that you will PAY to get their GPS and Satellite Radio, at $8 each, per day. Oh, and the fact that they put $100.00 extra charge on my credit card and said it would be there for two weeks. WTF for? Couldn't tell me. So, no. I won't recommend this place to anyone. I wish I had read the reviews before I went there, but I needed the car on a Sunday and no one else was open. read more
